Prison Chronicles

Prison Chronicles

Sid Punts

In this series Ex Prison Officers tell their harrowing stories of dealing with violent inmates, murderers, rapists and pedophiles in a job that is rarely spoken about.

Violence, murder, riots, are just part of the absurdity of daily life in a maximum security facility.

It is a tough job, facing down terrifying inmates, with negotiation skills, and bare hands, the only weapons at your disposal.

Prison Chronicles tells the never before heard stories of life in prison, from the mouths of those men and women who have lived it.

Corey O'Donnell spent years working inside the New South Wales prison system.

During that time, he experienced the violence, trauma and everyday pressures that come with working behind the walls.

But when Corey eventually walked away from the prison system, part of the job came home with him.

In this episode of Prison Chronicles, Corey speaks openly about his career as a Prison Officer, the experiences that stayed with him, his battle with PTSD and the impact it had on his life.

He also talks about his road to recovery, including EMDR therapy, boxing, rebuilding his physical and mental health, and finding purpose beyond the prison system.

It's an honest conversation about the side of prison work the public rarely sees, and what can happen long after a Prison Officer walks out through the gates for the final time.

This is Doing Time From The Outside.
