In 1997, during Styx's tour, Lawrence Gowan's band performed as a supporting act for Styx at Montreal's Molson Center and Quebec City's Colisee.

Tommty Shaw admired his talent and vibrant stage charisma and called him in May 1999 asking him to tour with them for 53 dates, temporarily replacing their lead singer, Dennis DeYoung who had fallen ill. Lawrence permaentaly replaced the lead singer after the tour.

Styx had long been plagued by differences in artistic inclination. DeYoung's absence created an opportunity for a more premanent restructuring of Styx. Lawrence subsequently became the band's permanent vocalist.

This year, Styx' current tour includes Cheap Trick and later this summer, the "Windy Cities" tour begins with Chicago and Styx.

Our latest guest is Martin Popoff who is the author of over 100 books on hard rock, heavy metal, classic rock and record collecting , bringing both archival depth and fan-first storytelling. Today we are speaking with Martin about his new book: "KISS '76".

KISS was formed in 1973, and was one of the hardest-working bands in rock, releasing three studio albums and their breakthrough Alive! album in 1974, setting the stage for a true breakthough into superstardom. Fifty years on, Marting frames the band's nonstop momentum in 1976 - two landmark studio albums, a relentless touring schedule, and the birth of the KISS Army fan club.

Written with the fan's eye and the historian's rigor, KISS '76 follows the band around the world into the studio, paring the detailed album analysis with on-the-road reportage and archival discoveries. As Martin puts it in the prolougue, "This is the Story of 1976 by someone with way too much KISS on the brain", A voice that gives the book its affectionate, insider engergy while nebver losing sight of the year's bigger picture.

Triumph formed in Toronto, Ontario, in 1975 after a chance meeting led Rik Emmett, Mike Levine and Gil Moore to embark on a marathon jam session. They immediately decided to form a band and the debut album "Triumph" was released in 1976. With hits like: Lay It On The Line, Magic Power, and Never Surrender, The Canadian power trio stands out as a visionary with soaring melodies and exceptional songs with a postitive perspective and outstanding live shows which propelled vocalist/guitarist Rik Emmett, bas guitarist/keyboardist Mike Levine and vocalist/drummer Gil Moore to stardom.

It's been 30 years since the band has toured together and now, original founding member of the band, Gil Moore, joins us to talk about what it's like to reunite and get ready for this amazing upcoming tour. The band heads out to the East Coast and Canada mid April.

Over the last week, Southern California lost of the of the great DJs, "Uncle" Joe Benson. Uncle Joe was on KLSX, The Sound, Arrow and 95.5 KLOS. Rita and CW Both worked with Joe for many years. Unfortunately the mystery of life moved Joe onto different pastures in the past week. This is just a very brief show talking about how Joe includenced not only Rita and CW, but the radio listeners.

Jerry Harrison is an American musician, songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur. He launched is professional career with the pironeering band The Modern Lovers, before joining the iconic new wave group Talking Heads as their keyboards and guitarist. In 2002, Jerry was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Talking Heads.

One of the band's most celebrated achievements is Stop Making Sense, the groundbreaking 1984 concert film directed by Jonathan Demme and excutive produced by longtime manager Gary Kurfirst. Filmed over four nights at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood during tthe Speaking In Toungues tour, it remains a high watermark in live performance cinema.

Now, Stop Making Sense is back - newly restored in 4K and returning to the theatres with a special twist: each screening features a live appearance by Jerry himself. He kicks things off with personal insight and behind-the-scenes stories followed with a live audience QandA.

Today we are honored to share a rare and special conversation with one of Los Angeles' original punk icons - Exene Cervenka of the band X. As the co-lead vocalist, a core songwriter, poet, and artist, Exene has helped define a genre and inspire generations.

X Began shaking up the music scene nearly 50 years ago, and now, after decades of groundbresaking work, they're preparing to take their final bow. Their farewell album, Smoke & Fiction, dropped last year to critical acclaim - and now John Doe, Billy Zoom, DJ Bonebreak and Exene are hitting the road one last time with their final tour kicking off September 19th, joined by the legendary Los Lobos.

When people talk about the great rock vocalists of all time, several familiar and redundant names will always appear, like Ronnie James Dio, Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, Chris Cornell and others.

This interview we welcome an old friend back into the studio - someone who's been part of the soundtrack of our lives for decades, It's JR Richards, fromerly of Dishwalla.

JR began his career as the lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter for the iconice alternative rock band Dishwalls. The bands' debut album "Pet Your Friends" dropped in 1995, and it didn't take long for them to make waves. In 1996, The Richards-penned 'Counting Blue Cars" hit #1 earning JR a Billboard Music Award for Top Mainstream Rock Track of the Year.

But that was just the beginning. JR has been producing music since the '90s not only for Dishwalla but also for this own solo projects and a slew of TV shows. You might've heard his work on series like One Tree Hill, How I Met Your Mother, Criminal Minds and he even contributed twenty songs to the reboot of Baywatch in 2017.

Now, JR is gearing up to release his 10th studio album (5th solo), "My Darkest Hour", expected in the next few months. So we're thrilled to sit down and talk about it, along with his journey through music and all the incredible milestones along the way.

A pioneer and one of the first aritsts ever inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, Dion DiMucci first rose to fame with his group Dion & The Belmonts, before becoming a solo sensation with iconic hits like The Wanderer, Runaround Sue and many more. Earlier this year, Dion co-authored a powerful and deeply personal new book with his longtime friend Adam Jablin. But that doesn't mean that guitarist, song writter and lead vocalist Kevin Cronin is stopping. ZZ Ward was born in 1986 and is an American Singer-Songwriter from Roseburg, Oregon. She signed with Hollywood Records to release here debut EP, Criminal in 2012, which preceded the release of her debut studio album, Til The Casket Drops, that same year. Her second studio album, The Storm was released in 2017, which peaked atop the Billboard Blues Albums Chart. Her third studio album, Dirty Shine (2023), was released independently and met with cricital acclaim. On Friday, March 14 (2025) ZZ will be releasing her next album which is on the famous blues label: Sun Records, titled Liberation.

We are back with our good friend Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Since the last time we interviewed Kenny, he has released a follow up album to "Dirt On My Diamonds, Vol 1" iornically titled, "Dirt On My Diamonds, Vol 2".

In addition to the new album, we talk about Kenny's experience actually playing Jimi Hendrix's "Woodstock" guitar and his upcoming tour, plus 2 new albums set to release in 2025.

Kenny is a five-time-Grammy-nominated guitarist. The new album was recorded at the Legendary Fame Stuios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. This project chronicles Shepherd's journey of musical evolution, touching on stories of loss, redemption, and memorable melodies. All crafted by an elite team of songwriters. Born in Louisiana, in 1977, Shepherd's own life has never followed the script. Steeped in classic blues and rock 'n' roll from an early age by his dad - a respected Lousiana radio personality and promoter - Kenny soon reached for his first Fender stratocaster and found he didn't require lessons to make it cry and wail. Long before Warner Brothers subsidairy Giant Records offered a deal, Shepherd had toured in clubs which he was too young to drink in.

Joe Bonamassa is not a household name. But if you ask any musician one of their top favorite guitarist, Joe will surely be included. Only in his 40s, Bonamassa has become a living legend with an astounding multi-genre catalogue. Collectively, Joe has over 40 albums to date with studio and live recordings, collaborative albums with blues sensation Beth Hart and his adventurous side projects: Black Country Communion and Rock Candy Fund Party. The New York state native opened for B.B. B.B. King might not have guessed it at the time, but that 12-year-old prodigy would go on to become an industry powerhouse.

Rock 'n' roll at it's finest. This episode is with the legendary Buck Dharma of Blue Oyster Cult. The band started as BOC in 1967 and has been releasing albums and touring ever since. They have a new album titled "Ghost Stories", which features rare and unreleased music from as far back as the late 70's. These songs, for the most part were never offically released and have been sitting in a vault since they were originally preformed. Now, with the help of A.I., the music has been cleaned up and put onto this one special album. Buck is one of the original founding members, guitarist and vocalist and performs such hits as "Don't Fear The Reaper", "Godzilla" and "Burnin' For You". He shares his history with the band along with insight to how this new album was created.

This episode is with rock and blues legend George Thorogood. George is celebrating his 50th year in music. He has released 15 studio albums, toured extensively over the years with great bands like, Muddy Waters, ZZ Top, Jonn Hammond, The Rolling Stones, Johnny Winter, BB King and he played at Live Aid in 1985. George and the Destroyers will be touring this summer with John Fogerty.

George has always given praise to some of his musical heros by recording their rare songs and bringing them into the publics eye. Plus he has written such classic tunes like: Bad To The Bone, I Drink Alone and You Talk Too Much. This episode is with the band Venice. We were able to reconnect with the band at this year's NAMM show. Venice is known mostly for their amazing harmonys, ones you might hear from Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, The Eagles or Steely Dan. But they have made a mark for themselves in the music world. Following their sisters (and Aunts) the Lennon Sisters, this band has been together since the 80s, impressing the likes of Jackson Browne, David Crosby & Steely Dan. They have worked with such great as Cher, Stevie Nickes, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Brian Wilson, Sting & Phil Collins. Infact they were chosen as the backup vocals for Roger Water's The Wall tour from 2010 - 2013. The band has a new album titled "Stained Glass" which features 16 new songs written by the band and recorded in Micahel Lennon's backyard during the pandemic. Gary just released a new album for Record Store Day (2023): Hark the Ho Ho Hoey Hits. Plus he has begun his holiday Ho Ho Hoey tour. In 1993, Gary Hoey got well known with his remake of Focus' "Hocus Pocus". He then followed that with the Endless Summer 2 soundtrack and in 1997 with one of his first big Christmas hits: "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch". Gary one time auditioned for Ozzy Osbourne, when Ozzy was searching for a replacement for Jake E. Lee, but the job went to Zakk Wylde. Now after 30 years and 24 albums, Gary is still considered one of today's most acclaimed guitarists.

This episode is with five-time-Grammy-nominated guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Kenny's new album: "Dirt On My Diamonds, Vol 1" is scheduled to be released on November 17th, and we were lucky enough to catch him for the interview right before his tour started. The new album was recorded at the legendary FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The project chronicles Shepherd's journey of musical evolution, touching on stories of loss, redemption, and memorable melodies, all crafted by an elite team of songwriters. Born in Louisiana, in 1977, Shepherd's own life has never followed the script. Steeped in classic blues and rock 'n' roll from an early age by his dad - a respected Louisiana radio personality and promoter - Kenny soon reached for his first Fender Stratocaster and found he didn't require lessons to make it cry and wail. Long Before Warner Brothers subsidiary Giant Records offered a deal, Shepherd had toured in clubs he was still too young to drink in.

Bill German, for many years wrote, researched and published his "fanzine" Beggars Banquet about the Rolling Stones. It led him to hang out with members of the band for over 17 years. He was invited to parties with Keith and Woody, went on tour with the band and so much more. The episode is with studio and touring bassist, Leland Sklar. Leland has worked with over 2,600 bands and played on over 30,000 songs. In 2004, Phil Collins hired him for the farewell tour. Lee brought his camera and started taking pictures of birds, and we don't mean the ones from the Audubon Society! Now 16 years later and with over 12,000 photos from everyone he has run into, he has a new book titled: "Everyone Loves Me". The book will make you smile and laugh as will this episode. Lee talks not only about making the book, but touring with Phil Collins & Toto and his YouTube channel that he has been posting on everyday since March of 2020.

This is part two of a two part episode - featuring Mark Thompson & Brian Phelps, better known as Mark & Brian. They were on Los Angeles radio station, 95.5 KLOS for over 25 years and were one of the most legendary morning radio teams in the country. They were just inducted into the Radio Hall Of Fame and we caught up with them a week later. The boys talk about some of their favorite moments including best interviews, throwing rocks, what they have been doing since the quarantine, favorite characters, being on the air during 9-11 and their appreciation of the listeners.

Mark & Brian were known for their morning show on 95.5 KLOS radio in Los Angeles for more than 25 years! They just got inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame and they (as always) have plenty to talk about.

The boys talk about the beginning of their career, working together, and some of the funniest moments, characters and interviews during their time in the radio business!

This episode we speak with The Tubes lead singer Fee Waybill. The Tubes started in San Francisco in the mid 70s. Some of their hits include: Don't Touch Me There, Sushi Girl, She's A Beauty, Mondo Bondage and the iconic White Punks On Dope! Fee has a new album: "Fee Waybill Rides Again" which was produced by Richard Marx. Fee talks with us about forming The Tubes, Quay Lewd, Rocky Horror Show, what he found in his mother's house, living in a ghost town and we find out what his worst on-stage experience was.

This episode we are speaking with Rand Foster who owns a local record store; Fingerprints in Long Beach, California. Rand opened his shop in the early 90s and has had some of the biggest names come in to play live. Jesse also talks about opening for Led Zeppelin, the day his home burned down in a devastating fire and how he was one of the original founders of the No Nukes Concerts.
