- 1418 - How to Budget on an Irregular Income + The $110K First Home Dilemma
Haaapppyyyy Friday friends! Imagine spending years saving $110,000 for your first home, only to realise you and your partner have completely different ideas about what that home should look like. One wants a bigger house further out, the other wants a smaller place in a suburb they actually love. And suddenly, saving the deposit feels like the easy part.
This week, we're tackling the property dilemma so many first-home buyers face. Do you prioritise location, lifestyle or space? Is rentvesting the answer? And does your first home really need to be your forever home?
Plus, one community member is navigating life with a new baby and a partner who's a sole trader, which means money comes in whenever clients decide to pay their invoices. Not exactly ideal when you're trying to budget. We're sharing practical ways to manage an irregular income, build a financial buffer and make your money feel a little more predictable.
And because it's Friday Drinks, we're also celebrating some seriously good Money Wins, sharing your best Broke Tips and workshopping our drag queen alter egos. Because apparently that's where we're at.
Grab a drink, friends. We've got a lot to discuss.

Thu, 22 Oct 2026 - 1417 - Having a Baby for Under $3,000? Two Aussie Mums Share Their Receipts
Could you really have a baby in Australia for less than $3,000? According to two mums in our She's on the Money community, absolutely. And they've brought the receipts to prove it!
After previously unpacking the costs of having a baby through the private healthcare system, we're flipping the conversation to something that deserves a whole lot more love: Australia's public maternity system.
This week, we're getting nosy with two gorgeous community members, Hannah from Melbourne and Erin from Perth, who are sharing exactly what they spent throughout their pregnancies and births. We're talking every ultrasound, appointment, pregnancy supplement, physio visit and even those sneaky hospital parking fees.
But this episode isn't just about the money. Both mums had incredibly positive experiences with Australia's public healthcare system, from the continuity of care offered by midwife-led programs to the incredible support they received during pregnancy, birth and beyond. And their stories are a pretty wonderful reminder that great maternity care doesn't necessarily have to come with a hefty price tag.
So whether you're planning a family, weighing up public versus private or just curious about what having a baby actually costs in Australia, we're breaking down the numbers, celebrating our incredible midwives and showing you just how valuable our public healthcare system really is.

Tue, 20 Oct 2026 - 1416 - At 38, She Could Barely Afford Her Mortgage. At 56, She's Financially Free.
At 38, she was raising a seriously unwell daughter, escaping a financially abusive relationship and using a credit card to pay a mortgage she couldn't afford. At 56? She owns her home outright, has $670,000 invested and works four days a week because she can.
So how on earth did she turn things around? This week's Money Diarist shares what it really looks like to start again when everything you've worked for falls apart. From navigating financial abuse and a messy separation to rebuilding her confidence, finding love again and creating genuine financial independence, her story is proof that your life doesn't have to go according to plan to turn out pretty spectacularly.
We talk about the importance of having money that's yours, why leaving is only the first step and how small financial decisions can change everything over time. Because if you've ever felt like you're falling behind or should have your life sorted by now, this one's for you. Turns out, starting again doesn't mean starting from scratch forever.

Sun, 18 Oct 2026 - 1415 - I Saved My Money. My Siblings Spent Theirs. Now I'm Expected to Pay?
Being the financially responsible sibling is great. Until everyone starts assuming you'll be the one footing the bill for Mum and Dad.
This week, we're getting into a family money dilemma that's probably going to ruffle a few feathers. One community member has spent years building her savings, while her siblings have been spending theirs. Now their parents are getting older, and she's worried being the sensible one means she'll automatically be expected to contribute more. Is that fair? And how do you have that conversation without starting a family war?
Plus, a 22-year-old business owner wants to build her property empire and is wondering whether buying a home through her business could be a clever tax move, or a very expensive mistake. We're unpacking what she needs to consider before jumping in.
And because it's Friday Drinks, we're also debating whether wearing socks to bed is an actual crime, celebrating some seriously impressive Money Wins and sharing Broke Tips that might save you a few dollars.
Grab a drink, friends. We've got opinions.

Thu, 15 Oct 2026 - 1414 - Show Me The Dividends Part 1: When Do You Actually Get the Money?
We're always telling you to invest, invest, invest. But here's a question nobody seems to be answering... when do you actually get to spend the money?!
Like, are we just supposed to keep putting our hard-earned cash into ETFs forever? When do the profits hit our bank accounts? And how do people actually use their investments to pay themselves an income without going back to work?
This week, Victoria and Bec are getting into the part of investing we don't talk about nearly enough: how you actually make money from your investments, and when you get to enjoy it.
From the difference between dividends and capital growth to why Victoria keeps 90% of her portfolio in ETFs, we're unpacking the strategies Australians use to build wealth, the mistakes that could cost you thousands, and why your reason for investing matters just as much as what you're investing in.
Plus, we're talking franking credits, the magic of compound interest, whether picking your own stocks is really worth the effort, and the tax advantages of investing in property.
Because building wealth is one thing. Knowing how to actually use it? That's a whole different conversation.
And there's so much to unpack that this is only Part 1. Trust us, you'll want to stick around for Part 2.

Tue, 13 Oct 2026 - 1413 - She Chose Europe Over a House Deposit. Now She's Questioning Everything.
She spent almost everything she'd saved travelling around the world, came home with just $1,000 in her bank account and has $74,000 in HECS debt. Oh, and now she wants to buy a house. At 23.
You'd probably assume this week's Money Diarist has some questionable money habits. But here's where things get interesting, because she's actually doing a whole lot better than you might think.
After years of diligently saving half her income, she decided that travelling, studying in Paris and enjoying her early twenties were worth spending her savings on. And while she wouldn't trade those experiences for anything, there's still that little voice wondering whether she should have put the money towards a house deposit instead.
Now she's earning $75,000 as a law graduate, has rebuilt her savings, started investing in ETFs and has around $12,000 eligible through the First Home Super Saver Scheme. She's also about to move out of home for the first time, which means swapping the comfort of living with her parents for $320 a week in rent, bills and all the other little expenses that somehow add up to a small fortune.
And despite being pretty financially switched on, she's giving herself a C+.
We get into her early investing mistake with crypto, why she's terrified of debt, the $350 she spends on entertainment every fortnight and whether spending your savings on experiences is actually a financial mistake.
Because when you're in your twenties, it can feel like everyone expects you to save for a house, invest for retirement, pay off your HECS and somehow have the time of your life.
Preferably all at once. Which is... ambitious.
But what if spending money on the life you want now isn't necessarily holding you back from building the future you want later?

Thu, 08 Oct 2026 - 1411 - How Does Parental Leave Work?
Be honest. How much do you know about parental leave? Because for many of our listeners, it’s one of those things that you don’t really pay attention to, until you need to.
Welcome to a special solo episode of Deep Dive where Victoria takes us through the ins-and-outs of paid parental leave and what you might be entitled to, should you (and a partner) need it.
This episode will introduce you to what the current status of Parental Leave Pay is in Australia, who’s responsible for it, and what happens if you’re employed… or self-employed. From describing how much time and money you might be eligible for, to whether your partner has any support throughout this whole process, we’ll unpack the current state of play.
Whether you’re planning to have a family, or know someone navigating the process, V explains what entitlements to expect, when you’re expecting. And what to ask your employer should you need more support.

Tue, 06 Oct 2026 - 1410 - She Couldn’t Get a Credit Card as a Single Mum. It Became a Blessing in Disguise.
She became a mum straight out of Year 12. Four years later, she had her second son and was raising two boys on her own. Money was tight. Really tight. She used to keep a Word document mapping out six weeks of expenses because she needed to know exactly what was coming in and exactly what had to go out. Some weeks, once the rent was paid, there was food in the cupboard and petrol in the car, she had $20 left. So they got hot chips. They camped in the backyard. Ate breakfast on the trampoline. Had treasure hunts around the house with a bowl of lollies waiting at the end. Years later, she asked her son whether he remembered growing up feeling like they had no money. He said no. He remembered having the best childhood ever.
I think that tells you quite a lot about this Money Diarist. Today, at 44, those boys are adults and she’s in a completely different season of her financial life. She runs her own building design business, which turned over $220,000 last financial year. She’s put $50,000 into shares, has hit $200,000 in super and is preparing to buy into a home with her new partner. But she’s also trying to make up for lost time without treating the present like a waiting room for retirement. Because after spending so much of her life making sure everyone else was okay, she’s now working out what it looks like to build wealth, travel, enjoy her money and create the future she wants. Turns out, you can start later and still build something pretty bloody incredible.

Tue, 29 Sep 2026 - 1407 - She Did Everything ‘Right’ With Money. Now She Feels Completely Stuck.
At 19, this week’s Money Diarist bought her first home. It was a very unglamorous $135,000 unit that she lovingly describes as looking like a retirement village. But while her friends were buying cars and spending their money elsewhere, she and her then-boyfriend decided property was the priority. And it changed what came next. They travelled. Lived overseas. Came home. Bought their family home. Went through IVF. Had their beautiful son. Survived a redundancy. Spent years with her husband working away while she essentially solo parented. And through all of it, they kept doing something remarkably unsexy but incredibly effective: living below their means. No flashy cars. No keeping up with the Joneses. No consumer debt. Then, at 41, her husband looked at their offset account and realised something. They didn’t owe anything on their mortgage anymore. Now they’re 42, completely debt-free and earning around $265,000 as a household. She owns part of the marketing agency she works in, they travel regularly and they finally have serious capacity to build wealth. There’s just one tiny problem. They’re terrified of getting it wrong. They’ve spent more than two decades becoming exceptionally good savers. Now they need to work out how to become investors. And I think this is the part of being “good with money” we don’t talk about enough. Because eventually, saving can only take you so far.

Tue, 22 Sep 2026 - 1404 - $40K Invested, a $1.7M Property at 26 and Still Scared to Spend Money
At 26, this week’s Money Diarist has nearly $40,000 invested, $46,000 in super and has just bought a six-bedroom home on 25 acres with her mum and younger brother.
There are horses. There are stables. There’s a riding arena. Honestly, she’s doing pretty well. But the interesting part of this story isn’t actually how much she’s managed to build. It’s how difficult it still feels to spend any of it. She grew up in a financially comfortable family until her parents separated when she was 10. Her father’s financial abuse left her mum working three jobs to keep life as normal as possible for her children. There were nights when there wasn’t enough money for dinner, but her mum somehow managed to turn those moments into childhood memories of going to friends’ houses for tea. As she got older and realised what had actually been happening, money became safety. Birthday money was hidden away for a rainy day. Unplanned purchases could send her spiralling with anxiety. And even now, with an emergency fund, investments and money specifically saved for something she needs, spending it can still feel incredibly uncomfortable.
Today she’s a paramedic earning around $90,000 base and almost $130,000 last year with penalties and overtime. She invests $400 a fortnight, salary sacrifices another $200 into super and has just taken on a $1.57 million mortgage with her mum and brother. She’s done an incredible job learning how to save and invest. Now she’s learning that sometimes being good with money also means giving yourself permission to actually enjoy it.

Tue, 15 Sep 2026 - 1401 - We Escaped With a Backpack. Now I’m Building a Home for My Kids.
Growing up, this week’s Money Diarist knew there was no money. She’s a First Nations woman who grew up surrounded by domestic violence, gambling, alcoholism and financial hardship. At nine, she escaped with her mum and brother, quite literally leaving with a backpack and hiding until it was safe to come home. She watched her mum rebuild from absolutely nothing. But while that showed her incredible resilience, it didn’t magically teach her how to manage money. She started working at 14 and spent every dollar she earned. At 19 she became pregnant, at 20 she became a mum, and by 22 she was raising her son alone and studying nursing, determined that life could look different. It wasn’t an overnight transformation. There were years of living paycheck to paycheck, impulsive spending and high-interest loans. Even when she and her now-husband both started earning more, they realised something pretty confronting: more money hadn’t actually changed their financial position. So they changed their habits instead. Now she earns just under $150,000 in nursing leadership, has completed her master’s, has gone from five debts to two in the space of a year, is preparing to build her family’s first home and has started investing for all three of her children. Because they’re small. But her children are growing up talking about investing, saving, bills and what things actually cost. Things she was never taught herself.

Tue, 08 Sep 2026 - 1398 - I Made Nearly $200K in Cash as a Stripper… and Spent Almost All of It
At 18, this week’s Money Diarist was approached at work by a man who told her she could make serious money at a club. Plot twist: it was a strip club.
She went from earning almost nothing to making hundreds of dollars an hour, and at one point tracked nearly $200,000 in cash earnings over a relatively short period. The problem? She was spending almost as quickly as she could earn it. Then life changed completely. She left the industry, became a mum in her early twenties and went from being fiercely financially independent to relying almost entirely on her partner. When that relationship eventually ended, she realised she had no savings, barely any super, very little career history and, at one point, just $11 to her name. Now 32, remarried with three children, she’s rebuilt things very differently. She earns $120,000 across two jobs, has helped turn her husband’s sole trader business into a company, started her own business, bought land for their future home and completely overhauled the way they manage money. It’s chaotic, incredibly candid and a pretty fascinating look at what happens when you’ve experienced both extremes of money, from earning thousands in a night to having almost nothing of your own. And perhaps the biggest lesson? Making a lot of money and actually building financial security are two very different things.SORT YOUR INSURANCE:A big thank you to our partner Skye Wealth for bringing this episode to life. Tue, 01 Sep 2026 - 1395 - $40K Deposit, Two Government Schemes and a Home by 25
At 27, this week’s Money Diarist has two STEM degrees, earns $140,000 a year, has $90,000 in super and owns a townhouse two kilometres from the beach. And no, there wasn’t a giant cheque from Mum and Dad hiding somewhere in the background. After becoming financially independent young and spending her uni years juggling study and work, she and her partner made buying a home one of their first big goals after graduating. They used the First Home Super Saver Scheme and First Home Guarantee to buy a $650,000 townhouse with a $40,000 deposit in 2024. Two years later, it’s estimated to be worth around $810,000, their mortgage is down to $575,000 and their extra repayments have already shaved four years off the life of their loan. We talk about exactly how she used the First Home Super Saver Scheme, why they still have a housemate despite earning good money, her $30,000 HECS debt, salary sacrificing into super and the very cute joint account that basically tells her and her partner when they’re overdue for a date night. Because earning more is great. But building systems that mean the money actually goes somewhere? Even better.

Tue, 25 Aug 2026 - 1392 - I Lost Thousands in Bad Relationships. Rebuilding My Finances Changed Everything.
Sometimes the biggest financial setbacks have nothing to do with money. After migrating to Australia from Malaysia, she watched her family go from a comfortable life to starting over from scratch. Money wasn't something anyone talked about, especially the women in her family, so when she entered her first serious relationships, she had no idea what financial abuse or manipulation could look like.
By 28, she'd lost thousands, moved back in with her parents and felt like she was starting all over again.
But instead of staying there, she got curious.
She started learning about money, bought her first home on her own, built a share portfolio worth $70,000, grew her super to more than $280,000, and carved out a career as an emergency veterinarian earning up to $250,000 a year. Along the way, she also met a partner who supports her goals instead of holding her back.
We chat about financial abuse, rebuilding your confidence after unhealthy relationships, migrating to Australia, buying a home solo, planning for a family, and why sometimes the best investment you can make is believing you're capable of creating a different future.
If you've ever felt like you've fallen behind because of the wrong relationship, this one's for you.

Thu, 20 Aug 2026 - 1390 - Investing in your 20s, 30s, and 40s: Tips for Each Lifestage
Something we hear super often is, “How do I invest now, to prepare for a comfortable retirement later on?”. To which we say, “That depends…”
In this week’s Deep Dive, Victoria and Bec unpack what you might need to invest each month to reach $1m by the time you reach retirement. Better than that, they’ll break it down by life stage so that there are relatable and actionable things to consider for you whether you’re in your 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond.Rather than simply telling you to earn or save more, or get better at budgeting, the team shares considerations around things like investing habits, superannuation, and salary sacrificing that scale with the characteristics of your assets.
Rather than rushing in or feeling left out, this episode is about reframing your approach to investing over a lifetime.

Tue, 18 Aug 2026 - 1389 - My Mum Spent My Savings. It Changed the Way I Think About Money Forever.
Growing up, her mum believed in spending now and worrying later. Her dad was the complete opposite. He planned ahead, saved where he could, and quietly showed her what financial security could look like.
After her parents separated, everything changed.
By 14, she'd landed her first job and was handing over every pay cheque, believing it was going straight into savings. It wasn't. When she finally asked for the money back, there was barely anything left.
That moment shaped everything that came next.
She worked three jobs while studying full-time, bought her first home on her own, met her now husband, and together they've built the life they'd always dreamed of. Today they're raising two little girls in their forever home on acreage, growing their investments and already thinking about the money lessons they'll pass on to the next generation.
We chat about growing up between two completely different money mindsets, buying a home solo in your twenties, building wealth as a family, finding a partner who champions your financial goals, and why sometimes the biggest gift a parent gives you isn't money. It's showing you the kind of person you want to become.

Tue, 11 Aug 2026 - 1386 - I Think I Accidentally Became Rich
This week's Money Diary starts with a sentence I don't think I've ever heard before.
"I think I accidentally became rich."
Growing up, money was something her family never really talked about. She was raised by a single mum, grew up on Centrelink, won a scholarship to a private school, and didn't realise just how little they had until she was much older.
Fast forward to today and she's 34, has more than $100,000 invested, over $218,000 in super, a full year's worth of expenses sitting in her emergency fund, and recently quit her full-time consulting job to work on her own terms.
And here's the part I loved most.
She bought a house... then decided she actually didn't want one.
Instead, she's chosen a life built around flexibility, travel and financial independence, proving that building wealth doesn't have to look the same for everyone.
We chat about growing up without financial literacy, becoming obsessed with investing, why she contributes up to $2,000 a week to ETFs while the income is there, turning down home ownership, and what "enough" really looks like when you're designing a life you actually want.

Tue, 04 Aug 2026 - 1383 - She Didn't Pay Rent for Seven Years. Now She Owns a $1.2 Million Home.
This week's Money Diary proves there isn't just one way to build wealth.
Growing up in a working-class family, she didn't inherit financial advice, a house deposit or a roadmap. So she made one herself.
From 18 to 25, she skipped renting altogether, house-sitting her way across Melbourne, looking after other people's homes and pets while quietly saving every dollar she could. It wasn't glamorous, but it helped her buy her first home on her own in her twenties.
Fast forward to today and she's 36, single, earns $177,000 a year, owns a home worth around $1.2 million, has more than $250,000 in super and is slowly building an investment portfolio, all without relying on a partner to get there.
We chat about climbing the corporate ladder while completing a master's and PhD, navigating redundancies, why she's still not convinced she deserves an A for her money habits, and the reality of building financial security on your own.
It's a conversation about doing things differently, trusting yourself, and remembering that building wealth doesn't have to look the same as everyone else's.

Tue, 28 Jul 2026 - 1380 - She Grew Up in Government Housing. Now She's Building a Property Portfolio.
Growing up, home never really felt permanent. Her mum battled addiction, money was always tight, and by the time she was a teenager she'd already experienced more instability than most people do in a lifetime. When her mum passed away unexpectedly, there was no inheritance waiting for her. Just grief, unanswered questions and a decision to create a different future for herself.
Today, she's 32, works as a nurse, owns two properties, has just $40,000 left on the mortgage for her home, and is already planning the next investment. But what I loved most about this conversation wasn't the numbers.
It was the mindset.
We chat about growing up between two completely different worlds, learning that your childhood doesn't have to define your future, the power of financial independence, and why she's determined to build the kind of security she never had growing up.

Sun, 26 Jul 2026 - 1379 - I Financially Supported a Friend In Debt… Then They Got IVF!?
Who among us has spotted a friend who was skint? Who among us has *been* that friend? Okay, but what if the situation was more complex, and that friend is also tackling long term mental illness and physical disability?

Thu, 23 Jul 2026 - 1378 - Calling You In: Financial Decisions That Are Killing Your Cashflow
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the financial decisions that are quietly killing your cashflow. Whether it’s a daily $8 iced oat latté or a late night snack that becomes a weekly tradition, it’s time we faced these innocuous transactions that are getting in the way of our money goals. Because while they may only seem like a few dollars here and there, they all add up.
On this week’s Deep Dive, Victoria and Bec unpack the psychology behind our sometimes questionable spending behaviours and how we might overcome them to better build our wealth. Because friends don’t let friends make terrible money decisions.

Tue, 21 Jul 2026 - 1377 - I Grew Up Watching Money Be Used as Control. Now I'm Building My Own Freedom.
This week's Money Diary is for anyone who's ever felt like their relationship with money was shaped long before they earned their first paycheck.
Growing up, money was always part of the conversation in her house. But not in a good way.
She watched her mum give up career opportunities, financial independence and choices, while money was treated as something that belonged to someone else. And without realising it, she carried those lessons into adulthood. Spending became freedom. Saving felt impossible. And for years, she bounced between worrying about money and avoiding it altogether.
At 31, things look very different.
She's earning around $130,000 a year in mining recruitment, has built her savings to $60,000, started investing, and is on track to hit $90,000 in savings by the end of the year. Not because she's perfect with money, but because she finally realised that financial security isn't about restriction. It's about choice.
We chat about growing up in a household where money created tension, the spending habits that took years to unlearn, the pressure to buy property when everyone around you seems to be getting ahead, and why she's determined to create financial independence for herself, even while in a loving long-term relationship.

Thu, 16 Jul 2026 - 1375 - It’s Giving ‘Rich’: What Does Wealth Actually Look Like?
So they have a Cartier bracelet, but no emergency fund. Or they own a home… but have a $5k monthly mortgage. What actually makes someone rich versus what makes them wealthy?
This Deep Dive goes into some of Victoria and Bec’s earliest money memories to explore their first ideas of wealth and what it meant to be ‘rich’. They discuss clichéd wealth indicators from designer bags and luxury cars to who is allowed to be rich, whether there’s a difference to being wealthy and the realities of the upward comparison effect.
This episode is less about ‘what the new rich looks like’ and more about the systemic beliefs we’re raised with versus realisations of what financial security and confidence actually feel like.

Tue, 14 Jul 2026 - 1374 - She Lost Her Fiancé, Her House and $30,000 in the Same Year
A few years ago, she thought she had it all figured out. The house. The fiancé. The wedding. The future she'd spent six years building with the person she thought she'd spend the rest of her life with. Then, on a random Tuesday morning, she got a text message. He was leaving. Just six months before their wedding.
What followed was a blur of heartbreak, a house sale, more than $30,000 in lost wedding deposits, and the very real task of rebuilding a life she never imagined she'd have to start over. But this isn't really a story about what she lost.
It's a story about what happened after. Today she's a qualified dietitian, has over $150,000 in savings, a growing investment portfolio, and a level of financial independence she never knew she was capable of. We chat about combining finances in your early twenties, trusting your gut when something feels off, rebuilding after a major breakup, and why sometimes the plans falling apart end up making space for something much better. By the end of this episode, you'll be rooting for her harder than anyone.

Sun, 12 Jul 2026 - 1373 - Money Talk Makes Me Nervous. Why Am I Ashamed?
POV: You outearn your partner. Should you be contributing more to things like shared costs, savings and goals because your income is higher? Or is there a more equitable way to split things?
This week on Friday Drinks, Victoria, Bec and Jess discuss the ins and outs of relationship finances, especially when you have different attitudes towards money. From honest communication to the heavy money stories we carry, the gang explores how to build healthier financial behaviours while upholding the values of your partnership.
Oh and we finally learn which of the Powerpuff Girls V, Jess and Bec would be if they could choose. This episode is for you if you ever felt heavy or ashamed for having debt, and want a way to overcome this feeling.
Update: This episode was recorded before the Fuel Excise extension was announced. While the initial discount was higher (E.g. Rather than being taxed 52.6 cents/L we were paying 26.3 c/L in tax), we will now be seeing a 16 cent discount and paying 36.6 c/L in tax; saving around $11 per 65-litre tank.

Thu, 09 Jul 2026 - 1372 - It Costs How Much To Have a Baby, Now?!
GP appointments, vitamins, and not to mention the added snack budget; having a baby sounds expensive. So, we asked our very own VD just how much it cost her… with receipts.
This week’s Deep Dive episode unpacks the costs associated with having a baby in modern times. Victoria shares receipts and line items from weeks 4 till 40, with a trimester-by-trimester breakdown of exactly how much she spent, how far the Medicare rebates went and whether private health insurance provided enough coverage throughout.
If you’ve been thinking about family planning or simply wanted to compare notes on out-of-pocket costs, this is the episode for you (or the parent-to-be in your life).

Tue, 07 Jul 2026 - 1371 - She paid off a $25,000 car loan on a graduate salary, then became scared to spend money at all.
Our diarist this week went from being a flat-broke uni student who could barely afford rent to paying off a $25,000 car loan on a graduate salary in less than a year. She built her emergency fund, started investing, got serious about her money and completely transformed her financial situation.
But now there's a new problem. Every time she spends money, she feels guilty.
We chat about moving away from home at 19, being the only person in her share house paying her own rent, paying off debt, building wealth in regional Australia, dating someone with four investment properties, and the surprising money mindset shift that came after getting her finances under control.
Because sometimes getting good with money isn't the hard part.
Sometimes it's learning how to enjoy it.

Thu, 02 Jul 2026 - 1369 - Your Best Financial Year Yet: How to Set Money Goals That Actually Stick
Spoiler: Our goal-setting habits are broken. But, it’s not your fault. It’s the psychology we’re raised with.
It’s Deep Dive time! And this financial new year, Victoria and Jess are here to help you get out of your own way, so you can start ticking off those EOFY resolutions nice and early. How? By revisiting the psychology behind setting and sustaining financial goals for the year.
During this episode, the girls share insights about how current approaches to budgeting, investing and general goal-setting might actually be limiting our capabilities, plus ways we might overcome this with practical advice from authors Adam Grant and Angela Duckworth.
This is less about one quick fix for your best year yet, and more about setting goals you’ll actually stick to. Controversial opinion: They don’t fall apart because the journey is hard, they crumble because the journey is boring.
P.S. Please share your goals with us, so we can a) hold you accountable, and b) celebrate you!

Tue, 30 Jun 2026 - 1368 - They Thought Insurance Was a Waste of Money. Then This Happened
This week's Money Diary starts with what should have been a straightforward hospital visit.
Her husband was 32, healthy, active, and recovering from glandular fever when doctors spotted something completely unexpected on a scan. A few months later, they received the news nobody expects to hear: it was cancer. What followed was months of waiting, uncertainty and trying to keep life moving while living in limbo.
But there's another part of this story that really stuck with me. Just over a year earlier, after hearing countless conversations about money, they finally decided to sort out their personal insurances. Not because they thought they'd need them. Just because it felt like the responsible thing to do.
Thank goodness they did.
We talk about the diagnosis that changed everything, navigating a trauma insurance claim in your 30s, what financial security really means when life throws you something completely unexpected, and why this experience changed the way they think about money forever. It's a conversation about planning for the things you hope never happen, and why sometimes the most boring financial decisions end up being the most important ones.

Tue, 23 Jun 2026 - 1365 - The “Hey Girl” Message That Saved Her From the Wrong Marriage
Growing up this week's money diarist remembers boiling water on the stove for baths because the gas had been disconnected, landlords turning up at the front door looking for unpaid rent, and feeling like she never quite fit in because everyone else seemed to have things her family couldn't afford.
Determined to create a different life for herself, she worked hard, saved aggressively, finished university and built what she thought was her dream future with her long-term partner.
Then, two months before their wedding, she received a message request from his ex-girlfriend.
The kind that starts with: "I know you're about to get married, but..."
What happened next changed the entire course of her life.
We talk about calling off a wedding, navigating a breakup during COVID, buying a home on her own at 28, becoming a mum sooner than expected, and the money lessons that finally clicked after discovering the She's on the Money community.
This conversation is about resilience, second chances, and learning that sometimes the life falling apart is actually making room for something much better. By the end of this episode, you'll be very glad she never made it down that aisle.

Sun, 21 Jun 2026 - 1364 - She’s Financially Irresponsible. Why Should My Sister Inherit More?
Say it with me: equal isn’t always equitable.
On Friday Drinks, Jess and Bec cover a very juicy DM concerning inheritances, where one sister has received a lifetime of financial support, while the other is fighting for what she believes is her fair share of the will. Is it considered equal for the more independent child to get a larger share in the end or is there more to it than that?
This episode is also packed with insights for the side hustlers and how they might allocate their earnings. Do you split it into particular percentages (e.g. bills, investments, play) or is it all simply ‘fun money’? Tune in for Broke Tips, Money Wins, how you might split your pizza and the beginnings of Bec’s merch line(!?).

Tue, 16 Jun 2026 - 1362 - She's 25, Owns a Home, Has No HECS Debt and Still Thinks She's a B- With Money
She's 25, owns her home, has paid off her HECS debt, has more than $50,000 in super, is building an investment portfolio and somehow still rated herself a B- when I asked how she felt about her money habits.
Growing up in regional Victoria, she got her first job at 14 and never really slowed down. While most of us were spending our weekends hanging out with friends, she was working supermarket shifts, saving for her future and helping her parents renovate investment properties.
That work ethic followed her everywhere.
Through nursing placements, night shifts, university, a mortgage in her early 20s and a long-distance relationship that somehow survived Melbourne lockdowns.
Now she's built a life that's incredibly solid, but what I loved most about this conversation wasn't the numbers.
It was her mindset.
The way she talks about money feels refreshingly simple. Work hard. Save consistently. Make your money work for you. Repeat.
We chat about buying a home at 21, paying off her HECS debt, starting her investing journey, the money lessons she learnt from her parents and grandparents, and why she's already thinking about the financial life she wants to build long before she starts a family.
Honestly, this episode is proof that wealth isn't always built through big dramatic decisions.
Sometimes it's built one supermarket shift, one mortgage repayment and one very stubborn financial goal at a time.

Tue, 09 Jun 2026 - 1359 - She Arrived in Australia With $20 and Built a Million-Dollar Life
This week's Money Diary feels a little bit like proof that where you start doesn't have to determine where you end up. She grew up in a tiny village in Eastern Europe in the aftermath of communism, where family holidays weren't a thing, money was scarce, and the future often looked a lot like the past. But even as a kid, she couldn't stop wondering what was on the other side of the horizon.
At 16, she won a scholarship that changed everything. A few years later, she arrived in Australia with just $20 to her name, planning to stay for 12 months before heading back to university in the UK. Instead, she met the man who would become her husband after he quite literally washed up next to her on a beach.
Eighteen years later, they're raising two children on the Gold Coast, have turned a modest beach shack into a property worth around $1.7 million, and she's built a dog-sitting side hustle that's on track to bring in $40,000 this year alongside her part-time career. But what I loved most about this conversation wasn't the property story or even the side hustle.
It was the way she thinks about money.
From collecting bottles to teach her kids about saving, to creating flexibility around family life, to constantly finding creative ways to make money work harder, she's built a life that looks completely different to the one she grew up expecting.

Thu, 04 Jun 2026 - 1357 - The Price of Pretty: Exploring the Cost of Beauty Standards
Skincare, makeup, and beauty treatments. When did they first pop up on our spending radar and why?
This week’s Deep Dive gets a little… deep. Bec and Jess discuss the cost of beauty standards: who sets them, sustains them, and how we might look at the whole topic with a raised (and sometimes fluffed) eyebrow.
Because, whether you overtly subscribe to them or not, beauty standards don’t just affect folks who love a trend, they have the tendency to impact our spending habits and perceptions of value, and even our self worth. And it’s not just women either, just consider the whole looksmaxxing thing.
Between the double standards, unrealistic expectations, and self-expression of it all, how have our perceptions around beauty shifted and what are we really buying into? From body hair to full-coverage foundation and the rituals of getting ready, tune in if you’ve ever wondered what we really think about the price of pretty, how we’re feeling about ‘preventative’ measures, and which standards we’re willing to bin at our next earliest convenience.
Should we share what our community actually spends on beauty products? Let us know in the comments.

Tue, 02 Jun 2026 - 1356 - I Grew Up Terrified of Money. Now I'm Saving $2,000 a Week
This week's Money Diary is proof that earning more money doesn't automatically make you feel secure. Growing up, she was constantly worried about money. Not because her family was struggling, but because she'd picked up on snippets of conversations and quietly convinced herself there was never enough.
So she did what a lot of us do. She worked hard. Really hard.
She got her first job at 14, worked multiple jobs through uni, saved obsessively and thought financial security would come from earning more. But after graduating and looking closely at her spending for the first time, she realised something surprising: the problem wasn't how much she earned. It was how little attention she was paying to where it was going.
Fast forward to today and she's investing in ETFs, saving around $2,000 a week, planning to buy her first property, and building wealth with far more confidence than she ever thought possible. This conversation is about scarcity mindset, the stories we inherit about money, and what happens when you finally stop being scared of it.

Sun, 31 May 2026 - 1355 - Stay or Pay: Sacrificing Money Goals By Staying In a Job You Love
They’re in the same role as you, have less experience and are somehow being paid more? A whopping $25k more. So, are you being underpaid or simply not asking for what you’re really worth?
On this week’s Friday Drinks, we’re covering career-coded Money Dilemmas. One person asks whether it’s ever worth it to stay in a job you love, even if it means taking longer to reach your money goals.
And someone’s being underpaid! Or are they? With a less-experienced colleague being paid more for the same role, this community member asks whether they’ve missed their moment to ask for a raise – or if they’re simply being underpaid by a whole $25k.
From knowing your worth to knowing your values, this episode is nothing to sniff at.

Tue, 26 May 2026 - 1353 - She Gave Up Uni, Work and Financial Control for Love. Leaving Changed Everything
A little heads up before you press play: this episode contains conversations about financial abuse and coercive control. It’s an incredibly important conversation, but please look after yourself while listening.
This week’s Money Diary is raw in a way I don’t think I was fully prepared for.
At 21, she fell in love with an older man and slowly built a life around him. Over time, she gave up uni, stopped working, helped raise his children, and handed over control of her finances without really realising how much of herself she was losing in the process.
What started as “he’s just better with money” slowly became something much darker.
By the end of the relationship, she was working unpaid for his business, questioning her own worth constantly, and living in a situation so controlling that she had her own fridge in the garage because she’d been made to feel like a burden.
And still… she didn’t call it financial abuse at the time.
After 14 years, one moment finally pushed her to leave. She packed up her dog, moved back in with her parents, got a new job, started learning about money for herself, and began rebuilding from scratch.
Now she has a growing investment portfolio, a $50k house deposit, and something even bigger than that: independence.
This conversation is heartbreaking, hopeful and honestly incredibly important. Because financial abuse rarely starts with one giant red flag. Most of the time, it happens slowly… until one day you realise you don’t recognise yourself anymore.

Thu, 21 May 2026 - 1351 - ETFs Explained: Everything You Need to Know Before You Buy Your First One
Spoiler: ETFs aren’t that deep. So why are so many of us (okay, you) still so intimidated by them when it comes to investing? On this week’s Deep Dive, Bec and Victoria cover the acronym that’s causing a stir in our comments section.
Exchange Traded Funds or ETFs are just one of the ways that many Aussies are investing, and for good reason too. They’re a bundle of shares that give you some healthy exposure to a range of companies, industries and asset classes that you mightn't have otherwise.
In this episode, we’ll cover what ETFs are, how they work, and why they’re such a compelling investment option. Thanks to our episode partners Sharesies, we’ll show you how to get started on their platform, as well as which ETFs have risen in popularity in recent times (and why!).
From percentages to performance, common mistakes and money tips, learn how to make your money work harder for you with ETFs.

Tue, 19 May 2026 - 1350 - She Spent Hundreds of Thousands in 12 Months… Then Realised She Had No Idea Where Her Money Was Going
This week’s Money Diary is one of those “wait… this is actually so relatable” conversations. She’s a newly admitted lawyer who spent years living paycheck to paycheck while studying, prioritising travel over investing and genuinely having no idea what an ETF even was.
Fast forward a few years and life suddenly got very expensive, very quickly.
An apartment. A wedding. A honeymoon. Another holiday. A puppy. Moving costs. Furniture. And somewhere in the middle of all of that, she and her husband had the slightly nauseating realisation that they’d spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in a year… without really stopping to think about where any of it was actually going. And honestly? I think a lot of people will see themselves in this one. We talk about the pressure to buy property because everyone else is doing it, the reality of owning an apartment with brutal body corporate fees, lifestyle creep, ADHD hyper-fixation becoming an unexpected budgeting superpower, and what happened when she finally sat down and looked at her finances properly.
Now she’s investing 40% of her income, building a portfolio she actually understands, and rethinking what financial security is supposed to look like in the first place. This one feels a little bit like a group chat with your financially self-aware friends. Slightly chaotic. Slightly confronting. But in the best way.

Sun, 17 May 2026 - 1349 - Your Paycheck Isn’t Stretching Like It Used To. We Asked The PM Why
Okay… this one still feels a bit surreal to say out loud. Right after the federal budget dropped, I sat down with Australia’s Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, and Finance Minister Katy Gallagher to ask the questions our She’s on the Money community actually wants answered. We covered a lot.
We spoke about housing affordability, negative gearing, capital gains tax changes, childcare costs, women’s health, paid parental leave, fuel prices, the gender pay gap and what the government is actually doing about the cost of living pressure Australians are feeling right now. We also had a really honest conversation about why the government changed its position on negative gearing, and whether politicians genuinely understand how financially stretched people are feeling.
But because this is still She’s on the Money… things also went slightly off the rails. We somehow ended up talking about ChatGPT, Bluey, subscription creep, the Met Gala, free McDonald’s burgers, sourdough, single people being forgotten by the system, and the Prime Minister’s thoughts on Sabrina Carpenter’s outfit choices. Which, to be fair, was not where I expected budget week to go.
If you’ve been trying to make sense of what just happened in Canberra, this is the budget breakdown you actually want to hear.

Sat, 16 May 2026 - 1348 - “Can I Actually Afford My Life Right Now?” We Put Australia’s Ministers In The Hot Seat
Right after the federal budget dropped, I sat down with some of Australia’s most powerful ministers and political voices to ask the questions our community actually cares about. Not the polished political talking points… the real stuff. Housing affordability, childcare costs, rising bills, negative gearing, fuel prices, domestic violence support, women’s financial security and whether Australians are genuinely better off after this budget.
Across this bonus episode, I speak with Housing Minister Clare O'Neil, Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek, Infrastructure Minister Catherine King, Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen and Independent MP Monique Ryan about what this budget actually means for Australians trying to buy homes, leave violent relationships, pay power bills, raise kids and build financial security in an economy that feels increasingly hard to keep up with.
We also get into the politics behind negative gearing reform, whether the government has gone far enough on housing, why childcare still feels impossible for so many women, and what politicians really think when Australians say their paychecks simply aren’t stretching anymore.
Some of their answers genuinely surprised me.
Hi friend, we’re She’s on the Money, an Australian finance podcast here to help you feel more confident with your money. From understanding your money story, to actually sticking to a budget, to starting to build wealth in a way that feels doable. Fri, 15 May 2026 - 1347 - Negative Gearing Is Dead, Unless You’re Already In. Jim Chalmers Explains Why Young Australians Miss Out
The federal budget has dropped… and Australians have opinions.
So Victoria sat down with Australia’s Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, immediately after the budget announcement to ask the questions everyone actually wants answered. From negative gearing and capital gains tax changes to the cost of living crisis, fuel prices, housing affordability, tax cuts and why blueberries suddenly cost what feels like a small mortgage repayment.
They also get into the political backlash surrounding the budget, why the government changed its position on housing tax reform, whether Canberra is disconnected from how tough things feel financially right now, and what Treasurer Chalmers says Australians fundamentally misunderstand about the federal budget.
There’s also unexpected chat about ChatGPT, air fryers, pocket money, coffee machines, influencers, and what it actually feels like to hand down a budget while the internet calls you “The Jim Reaper.”
If you’ve been trying to make sense of what just happened in Canberra, this is the budget breakdown you actually want to hear.

Thu, 14 May 2026 - 1345 - BONUS: The 2026 Federal Budget Explained Without The Boring Bits
The federal budget officially dropped at 7:30pm tonight, but we recorded this episode from inside Budget Lock-Up BEFORE the rest of the country got their hands on it.
At 6pm, while the internet was still speculating and journalists were speed-reading hundreds of pages of announcements and fine print, we sat down inside Parliament House to unpack the headlines we think actually matter to our community.
Victoria is joined by Glen James from Money Money Money and Vince Scully from Retire Right, who also happens to own our financial services licence, which you’d think would mean we’d be on our best behaviour… but unfortunately that’s not what happened.
Together, we break down:
• the negative gearing and CGT changes everyone’s about to argue about
• what the tax cuts actually mean for your wallet
• housing affordability and first home buyers
• women’s health funding
• cost-of-living relief
• and why the global oil crisis is suddenly impacting Australian householdsPlus, we had a cameo appearance from Katy Gallagher, Minister for Finance herself.
This episode is landing slightly later than we planned because the audio quality wasn’t where we wanted it to be and after surviving Budget Lock-Up, the least we could do was make sure it didn’t sound like we recorded it through a microwave.

Tue, 12 May 2026 - 1343 - Dropped Out of Uni Three Times… and Now Earns $140K Without a Degree
Have you ever thought, “maybe I’ve missed my chance.”
This weeks diarist started uni three separate times and dropped out every single one. Worked 50-hour weeks in retail management for minimum wage. Genuinely believed that without a degree, there was a limit to what she’d ever earn or achieve. Relatable. Then life happened. A baby. A relocation. A partner changing careers. Another baby. A mortgage. A massive amount of imposter syndrome. But somewhere in the middle of all of that, she met a leader who saw something in her before she could fully see it herself… and everything started to shift. Now she’s 33, earning $140k in HR with no degree, investing for the first time, raising two kids, navigating a very real mortgage, and trying to work out how anyone affords dining chairs without having a small emotional breakdown. This conversation felt really honest. Not in a “perfect with money” way. More in a “figuring it out while life is happening” kind of way.

Sun, 10 May 2026 - 1342 - Take It or Leave It: Could Taking Stress Leave Affect My Insurances?
It’s all too familiar. Work has you burning you out. And even your manager has suggested that you take some time off. So, why does it still feel weird to accept the offer, especially when you’re desperate for a break?
In this week’s Friday Drinks we cover that icky feeling some of us get around taking leave, even though it literally exists to be used. Beyond the stigma, we unpack how taking stress leave might affect your insurances and what to consider before submitting your request.
Say it with me: you cannot call yourself a financial adviser if you do not have a license (an AFSL). In this episode, we answer a DM that sends up more red flags than a carnival. A community member asks if she should take advice from an unlicensed financial adviser, even if it’s free. Hear us *calmly* explain why unsolicited advice is illegal, and could actually end up costing you more. Besties don’t let besties get scammed.
WHO THE HELL IS HAMISH? Here’s a linkto the series about a super-scammer, mentioned on the pod, where an unfortunate number of innocent people were scammed out of their super. The moral of the story? It could happen to anyone! Don’t let that be you.

Tue, 05 May 2026 - 1340 - 21, Investing Aggressively and Watching Everyone Else Spend Their Paycheck
You know when you meet someone younger than you and think… oh. You’re doing money better than I was. That’s this week’s Money Diary. She’s 21, still at uni, working multiple jobs and quietly building a six-figure portfolio. Not loudly, not perfectly… just consistently. Working in luxury retail, she’s watching people her age spend entire paychecks while she’s investing hers instead. Which, honestly, says a lot. This one isn’t about perfection. It’s about starting early, thinking differently, and what that can actually turn into.

The cash rate. It’s up. It’s down. Honestly, it’s giving ‘chaos’ when it comes to our everyday spending. Almost as if the cash rate rules everything around us… In this week’s Deep Dive, we’re taking on the RBA; who they are, what they do, and how they call the shots when it comes to the cash rate.
We’ll explain how often they meet, what facts influence their rate decisions and how to be more financially prepared for whatever they throw at us. Because whether you’re investing, running a business, looking for a job or simply trying to get by, the cash rate impacts us all.
Consider this episode a cheat sheet for what the Reserve Bank of Australia actually looks like and how to read the signs before the notifications roll in. We’re covering all the gory details including: inflation data, unemployment rates, wage growth, everyday spending, housing prices and how global factors impact our economy.
With real life examples, plus savvy money moves you can make to help prepare for the shifts, this episode will help you finally make sense of it all. So, if you’ve been a bit mystified by the RBA, how they decide on our cash rate, and why those rates might cause celebration or commiseration, this episode’s for you.

She went from owing money to everyone… to building her dream home.
This week’s Money Diary is a story about starting over. After having kids and going through a separation, she found herself navigating life as a single mum on one income, with the kind of financial pressure that leaves no room for error.
But instead of staying stuck, she rebuilt.
New mindset, new boundaries, and a completely different approach to money and relationships. Now she’s earning six figures in sales, has a deposit ready, and is about to start building her home.
We get into what actually changed, how she approached money the second time around, and why being honest about finances early on made all the difference.
It’s a reminder that your money story isn’t fixed… even if it feels like it is.

Sun, 26 Apr 2026 - 1336 - Is It Lifestyle Creep… or Is Life Just Getting More Expensive?
Be honest… are you actually spending more, or does it just feel that way?

We’re also diving into a DM that hits a little close to home. Thu, 23 Apr 2026 - 1335 - Should I Be Worried About My Money Right Now? What Global Uncertainty Actually Means for Your Portfolio
If you’ve opened your investing app lately and immediately closed it again… this one’s for you.
The share market has been all over the place, headlines are talking about global uncertainty, and it’s very easy to feel like you should be doing something with your investments or your superannuation right now.
So let’s talk about it.
Victoria and Bec break down what’s actually driving the market movements, what’s behind the recent drops, and how global events are flowing through to Australia and your portfolio.
And more importantly… what to do next.
Because when the market dips, the instinct to panic, sell your investments, or switch your super to something “safer” can feel like the right move… but it’s often the most expensive one.
If you’ve been wondering what to do when the market drops, or feeling unsure about your investing strategy right now, this will help you make sense of it and feel a whole lot calmer about what comes next.

Tue, 21 Apr 2026 - 1334 - I Fell Pregnant at 30… While Single and Working 70-Hour Weeks
This week’s Money Diary is from a 31-year-old nurse who fell pregnant at 30… while single and working 70-hour weeks.
At the time, money wasn’t the problem. She was earning well, picking up shifts, saying yes to everything and just getting on with life. But there wasn’t much structure behind it. It was busy, but not necessarily intentional.
And then everything shifted.
Not because she didn’t have enough, but because she suddenly had a reason to think about money differently. To slow down, to plan, and to actually build something that could support her and her child.
This episode isn’t about starting from scratch. It’s about taking what you already have and learning how to use it properly. It’s about stepping into a new version of your life, ready or not, and figuring it out as you go.
It’s honest, it’s a little bit messy, and it’s a really powerful reminder that you don’t need everything perfectly mapped out to make it work.
Sometimes it’s not about earning more. It’s about getting intentional with what you’ve already got.

Sun, 19 Apr 2026 - 1333 - Salary Negotiation Gone Wrong + Are You Investing in the Same ETF Twice?
This week’s Friday Drinks starts off fun… and ends in absolute chaos. Because what do you do when you get headhunted and try to negotiate your salary, only for it to completely backfire? Job offer gone. Pay rise denied. And now you’re stuck wondering if being honest at work just worked against you. We definitely had some opinions.
As always, we also unpack a DM from someone in our community who found themselves in exactly that situation, and it opens up a bigger conversation about loyalty, transparency, and knowing your worth. Because in theory, you did everything ‘right’ but the outcome says otherwise.
Before we spiral (in a productive way), we also get into a Money Dilemma that feels very relatable if you’ve ever dipped your toe into investing. What happens when you realise you might be doubling up on ETFs? Same underlying investments, different funds, and suddenly you’re questioning everything. We break down what’s actually going on there, what “hedged” really means, and whether this is something you need to fix or just part of the learning curve.
There’s also the usual Friday Drinks chaos. Jess shares Money Wins that prove the small things really do add up, Bec’s got Broke Tips that are equal parts clever and questionable, and a conversation about what we’d all do if money genuinely didn’t matter, which tells you more about us than it probably should.
If you’ve ever second-guessed a money decision, questioned your job, or wondered if you played something wrong, this one’s going to feel all too familiar.NEW HERE?:Take our Money Personality Quiz and we will send you free resources based on how YOUactually manage money here.

Thu, 16 Apr 2026 - 1332 - Money hacks that actually make you cash (Real Ideas From Our Community)
If you’ve been feeling like you need to make a bit more money right now… this episode is for you.
This week, Jess and Bec are getting nosy (in the best way) and diving into the real side hustles our community is using to bring in extra cash. And not the usual “fill out surveys” kind of advice… actual, clever ideas that are working.
From people turning small ideas into proper income streams, to flexible gigs you can start on the side of your 9–5, this episode is full of inspiration if you’re trying to get ahead or just want a little more breathing room in your budget.
Some of these are surprisingly simple. Some are a bit more creative. All of them will make you think, “okay… I could actually do that.”
If you’ve ever said “I should probably get a side hustle” but didn’t know where to start… this is a very good place to begin.

Tue, 14 Apr 2026 - 1331 - I Tried to Time the Market… But the Market Timed Me
What actually happens when you start investing… and just figure it out as you go?
In this week’s Investing Diary, we’re chatting to a Money Bee who has been on a full journey over the last four years. Blue chip stocks, trying to time the market, accidentally buying multiple ETFs that all hold the same companies… nothing has been off limits.
It’s the kind of story that will make you feel a lot better about your own investing decisions.
We talk about what it looked like starting out with a $10,000 head start, how confidence can quickly turn into “I can outsmart the market” energy, and the moment you realise your strategy might not be as solid as you thought.
There’s also a really real conversation about ETFs and diversification, especially when you think you’re spreading your investments… but you’re actually doubling up without realising. Plus, we get into the emotional side of investing, like watching your portfolio move up and down, and how to stay consistent when everything feels a bit chaotic.
We also cover the practical side of things, including choosing an investing platform, the differences between CMC and Sharesies, and why automating your investments can be the thing that keeps you on track long term.
This episode is relatable, a little bit chaotic, and genuinely helpful. If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re “doing investing right” or felt unsure about your strategy, you’re going to see yourself in this one.

Sun, 12 Apr 2026 - 1330 - I Earn $280K… But I’m Completely Burnt Out and Trapped
This week’s Friday Drinks is a little bit rogue… and we’re not mad about it.
We’re diving into a money dilemma from someone earning a very impressive income… but feeling completely burnt out, overwhelmed, and stuck. Think multiple mortgages, a business, big financial commitments, and the very real question of “how do I change my life when everything depends on this income?”
It’s a conversation about burnout, lifestyle creep, financial pressure, and what happens when your income grows… but so do your responsibilities.
We also get into a DM that has us asking: is a gift really a gift if it costs you money to use it?
Because while a surprise trip sounds generous in theory… it hits a little differently when you’re the one footing the bill for flights, food and everything in between.
Plus, as always, we’re sharing your community money wins (including a very satisfying warranty moment and a first-time investor win), and broke tips that are equal parts clever and chaotic.
If you’ve ever felt stretched too thin, financially committed to the point of stress, or quietly annoyed at a “gift” that wasn’t really a gift… this one’s going to hit.

Thu, 09 Apr 2026 - 1329 - Trillions Wiped From the Share Market… What’s Actually Going On?
If you’ve opened your phone this week and seen headlines about billions or even trillions being “wiped” from the share market… this episode is for you.
Because yes, it sounds dramatic. And yes, it can feel a little bit scary. But also… it’s not exactly what you think is happening.
In this week’s Deep Dive, we’re unpacking what’s actually going on when the market drops, why the news makes it sound so much worse than it is, and what you should be thinking about instead of panic selling everything and calling it a day.
We talk about why the share market is basically just one big emotional girl, how global events like interest rates and oil prices flow through to your portfolio, and why uncertainty makes investors act a little bit unhinged. There’s also a really important distinction between a market “correction” and a full blown crash… because they are not the same thing, no matter what the headlines are telling you.
We also get into the part that actually matters. What do you do when your portfolio is down? Why selling in a panic can leave you worse off, and how long term investors think about moments like this instead.
This is the episode you need if you’ve ever opened your investing app, seen red, and immediately questioned every decision you’ve ever made.

Plus, we talk budgeting, credit cards, investing strategies and how to take control of your money even when you feel completely overwhelmed.

Sun, 05 Apr 2026 - 1327 - Debt That Got Out of Control… Can You Fix It?
It’s a Jess and Bec takeover this week (while V is still on mat leave… but don’t worry, she’s back very soon 👀).
We kick things off with Jess sharing her money wins, because we love a little financial main character energy to start the episode.
Then we get into a dilemma that feels a bit too real. What do you do when a debt has snowballed way beyond what you originally owed… and is there actually a way to negotiate it down? We unpack what your options might look like, what’s realistic, and where to even start.
And then a DM slid into our inbox that had us thinking about the long game. What’s the best way to set your kids up financially? We chat through the different approaches, what actually makes a difference, and how to balance giving your kids a leg up without overcomplicating it.
Plus, we read out one of your five-star reviews (which we are obsessed with, by the way). If you’ve been loving the show, you can leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or drop your thoughts on Spotify, we genuinely read them all and love sharing them with the community.
As always, it’s a little bit chaotic, very real, and full of the money conversations we should probably be having more often.

Tue, 31 Mar 2026 - 1325 - Made Redundant Twice… And Built a Profitable Business Anyway
If you think being made redundant would completely derail your finances… this week’s Money Diary might change your mind.
Our diarist is a 32-year-old mum of two who’s worked hard since childhood, built a strong corporate career… and then had her world flipped upside down. A serious injury, two redundancies in one year, and some very big financial decisions, all happening at once.
But instead of playing it safe, she did something else.
She backed herself.
From launching a brand-new business (that’s already turning a profit), to buying a $400k property with 100 acres and a creek running through it, this is a story about resilience, strategy and redefining what financial success actually looks like.
We chat:
What it’s really like to be made redundant… twice How she went from corporate marketing to launching her own business The reality of starting a business with young kids (and a lot on the line) Selling shares to fund big life goals Building wealth outside of the “traditional” Sydney property dream And the mindset shift from working hard… to working smartThis episode is equal parts practical and inspiring, and a reminder that sometimes the thing that feels like a setback… is actually the start of something much bigger.
If you’ve ever wondered “could I actually do something different?”… this one’s for you.

Sun, 29 Mar 2026 - 1324 - Should You Sell Shares for a House Deposit? (+ Buying Property With Family)
V is back in the studio (and yes… she brought Cami along for a very cute cam(i?)o because apparently she couldn’t stay away). If you hear any cute baby noises throughout the episode, this time it isn't Bec!
This week we’re getting into two questions that feel very “this could go really well… or really not.”
First up, a dilemma we know so many of you are quietly thinking about. Should you ever sell your shares to fund a house deposit? We break down when it might make sense, what you’re potentially giving up, and how to think about the trade-off between investing and getting into the property market.
Then, a DM from the community that had us all leaning in. Is buying an investment property with family a smart financial move… or a disaster waiting to happen?
We’re talking boundaries, expectations, legal structures and what can go wrong (because let’s be honest, money and family can get complicated very quickly).
It’s practical, a little bit spicy, and exactly the kind of conversation you want to have before you make a big financial decision.

Thu, 26 Mar 2026 - 1323 - The Investing Trends That Defined 2025 (And What They Mean For You)
If you’ve been trying to make sense of what’s actually going on in the share market right now… this is your cheat sheet.
In this week’s Deep Dive, we’re getting into the investing trends that defined 2025. Where the money actually went, what investors were prioritising, and what it all says about how people were really feeling about their finances last year.
We’re talking:
The ETF boom (and why everyone and their group chat is suddenly investing in them) The shift from “growth at all costs” to diversification, income and a little bit of caution What’s actually going on when people start moving into bonds, debt funds and so-called “defensive” assets The industries that quietly (and not so quietly) delivered huge returns… hello mining and precious metals And the standout stocks that had everyone talking, including one Aussie company that shot up over 300%We also break it all down in plain English. No jargon, no gatekeeping, just a clear look at what’s changed and why it matters for you.
Because while it’s fun to look at the 300% and 500% returns (we love a bit of investing gossip), the real story of 2025 isn’t about picking the next winner. It’s about building something that can actually survive whatever comes next.
If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re “doing investing right”… or just want to understand what everyone else seems to be talking about, this one’s for you.

Tue, 24 Mar 2026 - 1322 - How One Mum Turned a Job Loss Into a Multi-Million Dollar Comeback
If you think losing your job would set you back financially… this week’s Money Diary might change your mind.
In 2018, our diarist lost her corporate role and six-figure salary overnight. What followed wasn’t a scramble to replace it, but a decision to finally back herself and start the business she’d been putting off. What began as a one-woman operation in a granny flat is now a multi-million dollar business with a team of 20.
We chat about the leap, the reality behind the growth, and what it actually takes to build something from nothing. If you’ve ever thought “could I do that?”… this one’s for you.

Sun, 22 Mar 2026 - 1321 - Can You Actually Use Your Super To Buy Property? And Whose Responsibility Is It To Pay For Your Parents’ Funeral?
This week on Friday Drinks, we’re answering one of your questions straight from the SOTM community… and let’s just say, it’s one we get asked a lot. Can you actually use your super to buy property?
Short answer: yes. Longer answer: it’s a lot more complex than TikTok might have you believe. We break down how it works, what the catch is, and why it’s definitely not a strategy to jump into without understanding the fine print.
We also dive into a DM that sparked a big conversation both in our inbox and in the studio.
Whose responsibility is it to pay for your parents’ funeral? It’s one of those questions that doesn’t have a neat, one-size-fits-all answer. We unpack the financial, emotional and cultural layers behind it, and share our own perspectives on what feels fair (and what doesn’t).Plus, if you’ve ever had a money question you’ve been too scared to ask, this is your reminder that you can send it to us. Drop us a voice memo via our website and we might answer it on the show. You spill, we help. Beep.

Thu, 19 Mar 2026 - 1320 - Meet The Woman Getting Brands To Pay For Period Products Instead Of Women
Period products are one of the most normalised monthly expenses in women’s lives… but have you ever stopped to ask why?
Why is this something women are expected to pay for, no questions asked… when it’s not optional?
In this episode, Victoria sits down with Remy Tucker, founder of On The House, the business challenging the status quo by making period products free. After working in healthcare and seeing firsthand how lack of access impacts women, Remy decided this wasn’t something we should just accept… and built a business to change it.
We’re talking about period inequity in Australia, the real impact it has on women’s lives, and the innovative “negative priced” business model that’s getting brands to fund products instead. Because this isn’t just a conversation about periods… it’s about access, equity, and who’s been footing the bill all along.FOLLOW REMY + ON THE HOUSE:

Tue, 17 Mar 2026 - 1319 - Investing Diaries: ASX and the City
Would you love to start and investing club with your friends? That’s exactly what this week’s Money Diarist did. Inspired by the investing club her mum started with friends more than two decades ago, she sent a message to a few girlfriends with a simple idea. What if they pooled a little money together, learned about the share market as they went, and invested as a group? That message turned into a fully fledged club called ASX in the City. There’s a shared account, monthly contributions, spreadsheets tracking their portfolio and a voting system for deciding which stocks make the cut. Along the way they’ve learned about ETFs, picked a few winners, had the occasional “problem child” investment and built something many people wish they had… a space where talking about money actually feels normal. In this episode she shares how the club works, what they’ve learned along the way and why investing doesn’t have to be something you figure out alone. By the end of this episode there’s a very good chance you’ll be hitting up your friends to start your own ASX and the City.
