- 2883 - ‘It’s fake!’: Burnham accused of inflating defence spend as he hits 100 days as PM
In Tuesday’s episode of The Daily T, Tim Stanley and Jacob Rees-Mogg are joined by Sir Ben Wallace, the former Tory defence secretary. Sir Ben has accused the Government of falsifying spending on the defence budget in order to appear closer to reaching the pledged 3 per cent of GDP by 2030. He criticised the Government for taking only a superficial step towards the target and falling behind its European allies. He said: “Germany, Poland, the Baltics, Scandinavians, have put their money where their mouth is. Denmark even cancelled a public holiday to increase tax revenues to fund it. We have done press releases.”
Tim and Jacob also discuss Andy Burnham’s first 100 days in office, exploring the difficulties associated with coming in in mid-term. They explore the changes he has made and the promises he has made for the future – and whether a snap election could be on the horizon.

On Monday’s episode of The Daily T,Tim Stanley and Jacob Rees-Mogg are joined by Lucie Kon, an award-winning Jewish documentary-maker who won a £400,000 payout from the BBC over claims she was the victim of anti-Semitism and was bullied out of the broadcaster.
Kon said she had been victimised after the Oct 7 terrorist attacks by colleagues who said Zionists such as her were “evil”.
The BBC was also accused of adjusting her credit on several works, including Mr Nobody against Putin, for which she won an Oscar, with Kon saying: “My name was hidden in the middle of the credits.” As part of the non-financial remedies in the settlement, the BBC will give her name more prominence in the credits.

On Friday’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley are joined by Sir Jeremy Hunt and Lord Lamont of Lerwick to discuss John Healey’s upcoming Budget.
The two former chancellors of the exchequer examine why Labour’s likely approach of raising taxes on banks and businesses could stifle economic growth, and why reducing the national debt is so important.
Sir Jeremy is critical of Labour’s public spending and argues that reform is urgently needed. “I think we should have a new rule, a fiscal rule, that outside emergencies governments will never increase public spending by faster than the growth rate of the economy,” he says.
The two former chancellors also answer a question Tim was desperate to ask: did they drink alcohol while delivering their Budget speeches at the despatch box?

In Thursday’s episode of The Daily T, Camilla Tominey and Tim Stanley are joined by Reform UK’s Danny Kruger to discuss the party’s decision to report ITV to the police over its undercover sting. The MP for East Wiltshire claims that “the law has been flagrantly broken, as in this case, outrageous deception by ITV, including breaking electoral law, pretending to be canvassers”.
Kruger, Reform UK’s head of policy, who is helping prepare the party for government, also claimed that the party was facing a concerted campaign against it from the press, trade unions and even the House of Lords. He called on Conservatives and their voters to back Reform as the only realistic way for the Right to win at the next general election.
Amid a series of high-profile scandals and expulsions, Camilla asked Kruger whether the greatest threat to Reform’s bid for government came from within the party itself.
An ITV spokesman said: “ITV stands by its journalism. The programme Undercover: A Year In Reform was produced in compliance with the Ofcom Broadcasting Code, relevant laws, and its broadcast is in the public interest.
“All journalists were instructed to operate within this framework, and did so under the supervision of the programme’s producers. Should the police get in touch, we would fully cooperate.”

A pioneering journalist and broadcaster who presented the BBC series That’s Life! for 21 years and launched the charity ChildLine, Dame Esther revealed her diagnosis in January 2023, before announcing in May that year that the cancer had reached stage four and that she was on a new “miracle” form of medication.
