A new study from researchers at Boston University says that language learning for those diagnosed with autism has better success when a diagnosis and therapy begins early. The early intervention has been shown to to improve cognitive, language and social function in children with autism. The Supreme Court heard arguments this week in former President Trump’s immunity case. The former President’s attorney D. John Sauer argued that a President should be immune from prosecution when it pertains to “official acts” of the office. The Department of Justice has argued that creating presidential immunity would create a slippery slope, encouraging future presidents to commit crimes without fear of persecution. This week, President Biden signed a bill to force TikTok’s parent company ByteDance, based in China, to sell the rights to the app or be banned in the United States. ByteDance would have nine months to do make the sale. The TikTok CEO says that his company is 'going nowhere' and feels confident any ban would be defeated. On Wednesday, President Biden signed a $95 billion package to provide military aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. After months of pushback from many Republican lawmakers, enough GOP support was gathered to pass bipartisan legislation that the President assured would take effect within hours of the bill’s passage. Early Friday morning, Israel conducted a "limited" strike on Iran in retaliation for Tehran firing a barrage of missiles and drones at the country last Saturday. Israel carried out what has been described as a 'limited' missile strike against Iran in retaliation to Tehran firing more than 300 drones and missiles at Israel just days ago. After 25 years at National Public Radio, Senior Editor Uri Berliner resigned Wednesday following backlash from fellow journalists regarding comments he made about NPR's political agenda. Berliner published an essay in The Free Press earlier this month critiquing his former employer's liberal bias, which allegedly increased following the 2016 election. Weight loss was already a multi-billion dollar industry. Now, anti-obesity drugs that began as treatments for type-two diabetes are beginning to make their mark including Ozempic. Wegovy, a high-dose version of Ozempic, was the first approved by the FDA for weight loss in 2021, followed by Aepbound, a new version of Mounjaro, last year.  All the drugs help with hunger by imitating hormones that would normally help regulate appetite after you eat.,   These drugs got even more attention recently when Oprah announced she was leaving the board of Weight Watchers after disclosing she was using a weight loss medication. There's pushback on some progressive policies lately in liberal strongholds, spurred by crime. In San Francisco, voters passed two ballot propositions from the city's Democratic Mayor London Breed,  including drug screening and treatment for some city welfare recipients, though sobriety is not a requirement. The measure also changes police policy and procedure. Officers will now have more leeway to chase someone believed to be committing a felony or violent misdemeanor,  and they can use drones, facial recognition technology, and public surveillance cameras. In Washington D.C., the city council passed a crime bill that makes it easier for judges to keep certain violent suspects behind bars before trial, expands the definition of carjacking, and creates a new crime for organized retail theft. It also allows DNA collection after arrests--but it's limited to suspects in violent felonies and sexual assault misdemeanors--and only after a judge finds probable cause. Opponents of these shifts in San Francisco and D.C. have some concerns in common, including a focus on penalties instead of help and the potential for disproportionate impacts on minorities.
