‘I guess as human beings we are always trying to evolve in some way whether we think we are, or not. We know that every seven years our cells completely regenerate, we are a new person. We know even without us trying, we are continually learning, evolving, changing, shifting. And so, as teachers when people are soaking up the words that we choose to say in whatever environment that might whether that’s as a mother, in a corporate office, as a teacher or whether that’s as a yoga teacher the words that we use, the people around us are soaking that up. Their ears are taking that in. The way that we walk or hold ourselves or look after ourselves, eyes are seeing that, ears are hearing that, energy is sensing that, and so we are all a by-product of every single person that we meet or are taught by.’ ~ Kat Harding
Tue, 14 Nov 2023 - 1h 06min - 335 - SLP 329: Self Love Quicky – Is Lavender Oil Estrogenic?
Over the years I get asked if lavender oil is estrogenic? The belief that it is considered estrogenic and causes hormonal issues stems primarily from a limited number of studies and anecdotal evidence, which have been broadly generalized. The concern is that certain compounds found in lavender oil could mimic estrogen in the body or otherwise disrupt normal hormone function. It is simply not true. The primary study that sparked widespread concern was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2007. The researchers reported three cases where young boys developed breast tissue, a condition known as prepubertal gynecomastia, after using products containing lavender and tea tree oils. They also conducted in vitro (test tube) tests showing that the oils appeared to promote estrogen-regulated genes and inhibit androgen-regulated genes, suggesting an estrogenic effect and anti-androgenic activity.

Imagine this: you wake up, wash your face, apply moisturiser, and put on some makeup. Sounds like a regular morning routine, right? But did you know that you could be exposing yourself to over 200 chemicals before even stepping out of your bathroom? This is what I call the ‘unseen bathroom chemical cocktail’ and it’s not only unsafe it’s avoidable. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are substances that interfere with your hormonal system can be found in a wide range of products, including skincare items like lotions, cleansers, shave creams, haircare and sunscreens and there are a number of health risks to consider. The accumulative exposure to EDCs has been linked to a variety of health issues, including: hormonal imbalances, infertility and an increased risk of certain cancers. According to the World Health Organization, EDCs are a ”global threat” that needs immediate attention. And this is why natural skincare, and organic ingredients are the way to go. Opting for natural skincare products can significantly reduce your exposure to harmful chemicals. Natural products often contain one-ingredient, organic superfoods that nourish your skin without the risks associated with EDCs.

Tue, 10 Oct 2023 - 1h 01min - 325 - SLP 319: Self Love Quicky - Blindfolds Are Beliefs That Stop You From Seeing Your Potential
In the journey towards personal growth and self-improvement, one of the greatest obstacles we often encounter is the set of beliefs we carry with us. These beliefs can act like blindfolds, limiting our vision and preventing us from realizing our true potential. The power to remove these blindfolds lies within us, and one effective tool for achieving this is Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). Blindfolds, in this context, represent the limiting beliefs we hold about ourselves, others, and the world around us. These beliefs are not rooted in reality but are constructed by our minds based on past experiences, cultural conditioning, and societal influences. They can manifest as thoughts like ”I’m not good enough,” ”I’ll never succeed,” or ”I’m too old to change.” “I cannot speak.” These self-imposed limitations hinder personal growth and restrict our ability to tap into our full potential.

Tue, 26 Sep 2023 - 55min - 321 - SLP 315: Self Love Quicky – A Growth vs Fixed Mindset
In this week’s Quicky we look at the difference between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. These are in fact two distinct approaches to learning, achievement, and personal development. A growth mindset is characterized by the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through effort, learning, and persistence. Individuals with a growth mindset embrace challenges, view failures as opportunities for growth, and are more likely to take risks in pursuit of their goals. They see setbacks as temporary and are open to acquiring new skills and knowledge. In contrast, a fixed mindset is marked by the belief that intelligence and abilities are static traits, predetermined from birth. Those with a fixed mindset tend to avoid challenges, fear failure, and may give up easily when faced with difficulties. They often stick to what they already know and are less likely to seek opportunities for self-improvement. Ultimately, the difference between these mindsets lies in the way individuals perceive their own potential and respond to setbacks, which can profoundly impact their personal and professional growth.
