According to recent studies, approximately 91% of cis-gender women are unhappy with their bodies. I too have spent most of my life at war with my physical body, attempting to starve and “cleanse” it into an idealized concept of beauty that only 5% of the population represents.
But all that has changed for me recently. I no longer feel a need to punish my body for not conforming to Hollywood’s standards of beauty. I no longer need to starve, cleanse, or raw food my body into submission. I have jiggles, and cellulite, and stretch marks, and a big, giant, juicy butt that doesn’t fit into a size 6 pair of jeans anymore, and for the first time in my life, I DON’T HATE MYSELF because of this.
Now I look in the mirror and see beauty in the swells and curves. The ROUNDNESS of my belly, my hips, my thighs has become a thing to admire, as opposed to a source of self-recrimination and disgust.
So, I wanted to talk about this new found inner peace and body acceptance. How did I go from feeling tortured by and hating my body, to feeling peace, ease, and body -love?

Menopause is described as the permanent cessation of menstruation, which generally begins between the ages of 45-55 unless it is induced medically via; cancer, hysterectomy, or other physical phenomena. There have been several deeply disturbing exposes in recent years about sexual abuse, violations, and misconduct in the tantra and sacred sexuality industry. Several credible claims of abuse and misconduct have been lodged against various well-known tantra schools and at least one person has had criminal charges filed against them. In November of 2020 BBC Radio released a 10 episode podcast expose on the One Taste Cult (which is NOT TANTRA but is often confused with Tantra).
In this episode of Sex Is Medicine, Devi explores the troubling climate of abuse in the Western sacred sexuality industry, the importance of lineage and accountability, and outlines some red flags and things to watch out for in your Tantra providers. Traditionally Buddhist Tantra has two paths to realization- that of the monk and that of the Tantrik yogi/householder.

Carmen Shakti is a writer, visual and performance artist, sex worker and activist. In 2016, she co-wrote and starred in The Hooker Monologues, a theatrical production featuring the stories of sex workers and their allies. She sits on the Board of Directors of PACE Society, a sex worker’s support service organization and drop-in centre in Vancouver.

There is a Shadow Side to Monogamy! For all its good— sense of security, continuity, deep knowing of your partner— there’s a mythos and fairytale ideal that society encourages us to follow, one which can leave us feeling broken in our relationships like a record stuck on repeat. We keep trying the same things over and over and get the same unfulfilling results.

This fantasy of ‘perfect partnership’ foisted upon us has deep roots. But how relevant is it today, when we know that partnerships are not necessarily life-long, or exclusive? When we experience cheating, a breakup, or the opening of a relationship, a struggle starts between our hearts and minds.

That struggle can result in feelings of shame, an experience of being emotionally frozen. You may feel like you can’t respond to things you know you should. It might interrupt your flow of communication, or keep you from feeling like you can freely express yourself. You might even find that you are unconsciously self-sabotaging yourself.

This struggle is the “Monogamy Hangover”.

Rahi Chun’s purpose was birthed from the tactile awareness he received to heal his crooked legs as an infant, combined with his practices of meditation in the Zen temples of Japan, and living at the Buddhist monastery Wat Ram Peung in Northern Thailand.
