Adult Friends is a show exploring ways in which people make and keep friends after the safety net of a school structure has gone away. Modern adult life involves prioritizing certain things, such as marriage, children, careers, and jet-setting across the world. These are all important considerations as we hurdle towards the grave; however, in my opinion, adult friendship gets under-valued, and I'd like to hear some stories about it.

Wed, 17 Jul 2019 - 1h 57min - 26 - Ted Held
This week, we're back to the traditional format of Adult Friends. My good friend Ted and I had a chat about all things under the sun (which explains the run time).
Ted is in one of my favorite local bands, Wizards Are Real: https://wizardsarereal.bandcamp.com/.
Wed, 19 Jun 2019 - 1h 44min - 25 - Adopted Friends 6: Aric McKeown
Long before Aric and I met, I was a fan of his improv troupe, The Mustache Rangers. This Friday (June 7, 2019) at 7:30pm at Strike Theater in Minneapolis, go see the Mustache Rangers perform during the fundraiser for Huge Theater. Aric is also a contributor to another of my favorite improv teams in town, ShowX (Monday nights at Huge Theater).
Aric and Levi had me on as a guest to their podcast, Regret Labs, a couple years back: https://noisepicnic.com/our-lovely-podcasts/regretlabs/pitch-perception-podcast
... but we mostly talk about Aric's experience adopting a daughter.

Leah is a fantastic musician, hilarious, and a great person to have over to your house for a podcast. She also happens to be adopted.

The government might still be shut down, but Adult Friends is back for Season 2! Episodes will be released every two weeks this season, as the previous arrangement (every week) almost killed me.
I met Regan, Taylor, and Tim a number of years ago through Common Roots connections. In 2013, they started an organization called, "Grown Up Club," which facilitated activities for adults to get to know each other, such as the comedy exchange and the singles exchange. GUC is unfortunately no longer with us (RIP), but fortunately Regan, Taylor, and Tim survived.
Glad to be back. I hope you've been well.

- 9 - Michael Murphy and Peter Nagell
When I had the idea to start this podcast, I tricked Michael and Peter into recording a conversation in my living room after a night of playing music and drinking beer. This late February evening was the night I captured Michael playing a descending line on the trumpet and synthesizer, simultaneously. It was so amazing, I knew I wanted to use it for the theme. I've used that line in C Major / A Minor as a guide for the rest of the music in each episode.
This was my first attempt, so forgive me for the audio quality. Peter and Michael are the best.
Wed, 30 May 2018 - 16min - 8 - Troy Zimmerman
At long last, Troy provides his rebuttal to John and Jacob, which sort of includes the Craig Finn game. We discuss ShowX, which occurs every Monday night at Huge Theater (hint: you should go). As always, I will overuse the words "capacity" and "bastion" for some reason. Note: There will be a two-week break for the podcast. The next new episode will likely be released on May 30th.

- 6 - Andy Meyer and Haakon Nelson
Haakon Nelson and I took a road trip down to Decorah, IA in the middle of a snowstorm to visit Andy Meyer. After a night on the town, we got to talking, so I recorded it.
I've known Andy since college, but we've become quite close over the last decade. Haakon and I became friends while we were both playing in a band that was preparing for a brief West Coast tour (https://www.cataldomusic.com/). I introduced Andy and Haakon while they were both living in Seattle, and they became fast friends.
The episode ends with a yet-unreleased song titled Statues that I wrote after reflecting on the White Supremacist / Neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville, VA in 2017.
Wed, 25 Apr 2018 - 1h 02min - 5 - Chris Cunningham and John Keston
Chris Cunningham has built his life around making music in NY, LA, and now Minneapolis (e.g., http://fothou.com/). John Keston has, among many other things, been making music in Minneapolis for more than 20 years (https://audiocookbook.org/).
