Andrea Capra holds a Ph.D. in Italian from Stanford University and was a Cotsen Postdoctoral Fellow at Princeton University’s Society of Fellows before joining NYU. He is a literary scholar whose work focuses on the nineteenth through the twenty-first centuries.Capra is the author of Ordinary Horror: The Aesthetics of Deformation from Leopardi to Ferrante (Stanford University Press). This book studies how “ordinary horror” — the horror that haunts our world and that we may encounter firsthand — manifests in our lives and literature, unpacking its significance for our time. Through this lens, Capra shows the centrality of horror in the work of a host of canonical Italian authors, none of whom are associated with the horror genre.Book link: https://www.sup.org/books/literary-studies-and-literature/ordinary-horrorPersonal site: https://andreacapra.com/---Become part of the Hermitix community:The Hermitage: https://thehermitage.school/Hermitix Twitter - /hermitixpodcast Support Hermitix:Patreon : www.patreon.com/hermitix Donations: https://www.paypal.me/hermitixpodHermitix Merchandise - http://teespring.com/stores/hermitix-2Bitcoin Donation Address: 3LAGEKBXEuE2pgc4oubExGTWtrKPuXDDLKEthereum Donation Address: 0x31e2a4a31B8563B8d238eC086daE9B75a00D9E74

The Nonduality & Magic course can be found here: https://the-hermitage.mn.coJay grew up in east London, to an Indian father and a half-Russian, half-Polish mother. His father’s family in West Bengal were immersed in the Advaita Vedanta tradition as members of the Ramakrishna Mission, so there was always some knowledge of this so-called “perennial” understanding running through his life. It was in his mid-thirties that he properly reconnected with what he considers the truths at the heart of that lineage. He has worked for many years with therapeutic and spiritual traditions, including Zen-informed Jungian analysis, somatic healing work, and shamanic healing and ceremony. In 2022 he had an experience in which his sense of separation seemingly vanished for a couple of weeks. Ramsey Dukes is the current and most well-known pen name of Lionel Snell, a contemporary English magician, publisher, and author on magic and philosophy.Lionel was born to a Kibbo Kift couple as WW2 was ending and lived his childhood in a converted water mill deep in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds. From his village school he won a scholarship plus government bursary to attend prep and public school in Bristol, where he discovered a wonderful library of ancient alchemy and magic books that had been bequeathed to the school by EJ Holmyard.A scholarship to Cambridge University enabled him to study Crowley and other occult books in the University library, and he still had time to graduate in pure mathematics. He tried teaching, gardening, aircraft stress analysis, copy writing, technical writing and a few other things before becoming a freelance promotional writer, mostly for hi-tech industries.Meanwhile he had made a name for himself – or rather a number of names – writing and self-publishing books and articles on magic, occult philosophy, and radical worldviews. These included a wicked satirical column for Aquarian Arrow, a UK neo-pantheist magazine in the 1970-80s. He is now best known under the pseudonym Ramsey Dukes, and he has a lively YouTube presence under that name.Dukes' site: https://ramseydukes.co.uk/Aeon Dukes Books: https://health.aeonbooks.co.uk/author/ramsey-dukes/23699---Become part of the Hermitix community:The Hermitage: https://the-hermitage.mn.coHermitix Twitter - / hermitixpodcast Support Hermitix:Patreon - www.patreon.com/hermitix Donations: - https://www.paypal.me/hermitixpod

He is now best known under the pseudonym Ramsey Dukes, and he has a lively YouTube presence under that name.Dukes' site: https://ramseydukes.co.uk/Aeon Dukes Books: https://health.aeonbooks.co.uk/author/ramsey-dukes/23699---Become part of the Hermitix community:Hermitix Twitter - / hermitixpodcast Hermitix Discord - / discord Support Hermitix:Hermitix Subscription - https://hermitix.net/subscribe/ Patreon - www.patreon.com/hermitix Donations: - https://www.paypal.me/hermitixpodHermitix Merchandise - http://teespring.com/stores/hermitix-2Bitcoin Donation Address: 3LAGEKBXEuE2pgc4oubExGTWtrKPuXDDLKEthereum Donation Address: 0xfd2bbe86d6070004b9Cbf682aB2F25170046A996

Erin Stapleton researchs destruction, archival imperfection, material volatility, resistance and ambiguity in digital and visual cultures, identity and media. Her current project, Catastrophic Loss, investigates how colonial logics continue to inform everyday digital media cultures and practices, the fragility of these systems, and the losses they threaten and produce. We discuss her book, The Intoxication of Destruction in Theory, Culture and Media: A Philosophy of Expenditure After Georges Bataille, which was published in 2022 by Amsterdam University Press (and published in paperback by Routledge in 2025). In it, she takes destruction as the founding operation of culture and trace it through philosophy, the media of September 11 and disaster films, end-of-the-world narratives, execution and eroticism, before addressing the effects of the displacement of linear destruction on the culture and media produced in digital systems. In other words, it’s got sex, death, explosions… and computers. And an unexpected amount of Walter Benjamin for some reason. And a joke that will only be funny to people who are intimately familiar with Australian slang and Georges Bataille. She completed her PhD with the London Graduate School at Kingston University, and my other qualifications at the University of Melbourne, where she now teaches in Media and Communications.Stapleton's site: https://drerinkstapleton.wordpress.com/Book link: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intoxication-Destruction-Theory-Culture-Media/dp/9463724532--- Become part of the Hermitix community: Hermitix Twitter - https://twitter.com/Hermitixpodcast Support Hermitix: Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/hermitix Donations: - https://www.paypal.me/hermitixpod Hermitix Merchandise - http://teespring.com/stores/hermitix-2 Bitcoin Donation Address: 3LAGEKBXEuE2pgc4oubExGTWtrKPuXDDLK Ethereum Donation Address: 0x31e2a4a31B8563B8d238eC086daE9B75a00D9E74

Joseph Turner is a PhD student in the English Department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, specializing in the dialogue between continental and Japanese philosophical traditions. His dissertation explores the development of a political ontology that bridges Nishitani Keiji's concept of emptiness with Jean-Luc Nancy's shared ontology of "being-with."He holds an MA in Literary Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and has published on Jean Baudrillard's work. Joseph has presented at numerous academic conferences on philosophers, including Baudrillard, Giorgio Agamben, Nishitani Keiji, and Jean-Luc Nancy. His research contributes to cross-cultural philosophical dialogue and offers new perspectives on political ontology that transcend frameworks of predetermined political antagonisms. Based in Madison, Wisconsin, Joseph works at the intersection of Eastern and Western philosophical traditions, bringing attention to underexplored thinkers and fostering promising theoretical frameworks. He also works with Incite Seminars, where he is currently co-teaching a seminar on cybernetics with his friend and colleague Matthew Stanley and will be organizing a class on an introduction to political ontologies soon after.---Become part of the Hermitix community:Hermitix Twitter - / hermitixpodcast Hermitix Discord - / discord Support Hermitix:Hermitix Subscription - https://hermitix.net/subscribe/ Patreon - www.patreon.com/hermitix Donations: - https://www.paypal.me/hermitixpodHermitix Merchandise - http://teespring.com/stores/hermitix-2Bitcoin Donation Address: 3LAGEKBXEuE2pgc4oubExGTWtrKPuXDDLKEthereum Donation Address: 0xfd2bbe86d6070004b9Cbf682aB2F25170046A996

Stephen Mandes Thomas is a longtime practitioner of magic, astrology, and energetic healing who also happens to be a cradle Catholic. Initially training in the Golden Dawn tradition, he has also been initiated in Taoist and Druid magical traditions and ordained to the subdiaconate in the Liberal Catholic tradition. Rather than drawing away from the Catholic faith of his birth, he found that studying magic in fact drew him back toward his traditional faith, now informed by magical philosophy.
