Ever notice how the people with the strongest, most unyielding opinions about what's best for other people's children so rarely have any children of their own?

James Talarico, the Texas state representative now running for U.S. Senate, spent years building one of the most aggressive records in his state legislature on gender-related policy for minors. In 2021, he stood on the House floor and called a bill restricting so-called "gender-affirming care" for children a "manufactured problem," accusing his Republican colleagues of wasting time on discrimination dressed up as concern. In 2023, he voted against SB 14, the law that ultimately banned puberty blockers, hormone treatments, and surgical procedures for gender transition in minors statewide. As recently as this July, at a Pride event, he called that same law one of the "most dangerous" pieces of legislation to pass in Texas, framing it as a denial of "life-saving healthcare."

President Trump had a good idea this week.

Send every adult American a $5,000 dividend.

My response? Do it.

And before Washington starts explaining why it can't, I'd like everybody to grab a calculator.

At the Republican convention in Dallas, President Trump talked about $21 trillion in tariff-driven revenue.

Now I'm not interested in litigating that number here. I'm not interested in another 900-word argument about tariffs either.

For purposes of this conversation, I'm taking the President at his word.

Twenty-one trillion dollars.  Okay.  Now let's do the math.

There are roughly 240 million adult citizens in America. Five thousand dollars for each of them comes to approximately $1.2 trillion.

Against $21 trillion? That's less than six percent. Six percent.

Meaning, if we accept the President's number, Washington keeps more than 94 percent of it.

And people are telling me five grand is too much? Please.

This is where Washington never ceases to amaze me.

The federal government can find billions for programs nobody remembers authorizing.

It can spend money overseas with numbers so large normal people stop comprehending them.

It can discover another hundred billion here and another hundred billion there.

But suggest actually sending some of the money back to the American people?

Suddenly everybody in Washington discovers fiscal restraint.

Now we're worried about the checkbook. Now come the furrowed brows.

Now we need white papers. No.

President Trump didn't propose sending everybody $50,000.

He didn't propose dividing the entire amount among the population and emptying the Treasury.

I wish they had nothing to do with each other. They do.

Today marks one year since Charlie Kirk was shot dead on a college campus in Utah. He was sitting under a tent, doing what Charlie did — taking questions, arguing his case, trying to persuade people who frequently didn’t agree with him.

Then a bullet ended the conversation. Tomorrow is September 11. Twenty-five years.

I still don’t know how that’s possible.

Nearly 3,000 people went to work, boarded airplanes, reported for duty, dropped kids at school, kissed spouses goodbye, and started an ordinary Tuesday morning.

Nineteen terrorists decided they wouldn’t get to finish it. 

Then, less than a month from now, October 7. Israel.

Families asleep in their homes. Young people at a music festival. Children. Grandparents. Entire families. Hamas came across the border and slaughtered them.

Different killers. Different places. Different circumstances. Same appetite.

Hatred eventually wants blood.

That’s the thing I can’t get away from as these three dates arrive almost on top of one another.

For 25 years, America and its allies have tried to defeat this kind of evil with armies, intelligence agencies, drones, special operators, sanctions, prisons, and an astonishing amount of money.

Some of it worked. Some of it didn’t. We’ve gotten very good at killing terrorists.

We have not figured out how to kill terrorism. There’s a difference.

And now Charlie’s death adds something uncomfortable to this month of remembrance.

Because the loner Charlie lived, the more plainly he talked about Jesus Christ.

Not Christianity as a voting bloc. Not faith as a clever way to win an argument.

Jesus. The Gospel. Sin. Repentance. Forgiveness. Salvation.

An Excerpt from #SheLOVEsHerBabies

There is something radically askew in the aftermath of the Lindsay Clancy mistrial, and it burned me from the beginning even before I could name what it was.

Then came the final stretch of testimony.

Clancy was never diagnosed with psychosis by the doctors who actually treated her before the killings. She admits she strangled her three children. Her defense doesn’t dispute that. The fight was over whether she should be held criminally responsible.

After 38 hours of deliberation across seven days, the jury couldn’t agree.

Mistrial.

Not an acquittal. Not vindication.

You wouldn’t know that from the pink people.

Hundreds of grown adults showed up outside that courthouse wearing pink — the favorite color of Cora, the 5-year-old daughter Clancy strangled — with pink bows and signs reading “Believe,” “She Needed Help,” and “Peace For Lindsay.”

Think about that. A 5-year-old girl is dead. Her mother killed her.

And somehow the little girl’s favorite color became the uniform for people rallying around the woman who did it.

What in God’s name are we doing?

The prosecution presented experts who found no evidence of psychosis in the records they reviewed. They pointed to inconsistencies in Clancy’s accounts and argued she understood right from wrong.

And I believe them.

I believe Lindsay Clancy misled people. I believe she told doctors enough to get help while withholding enough that they never understood what she was capable of doing. I believe the psychosis explanation became considerably more useful after Cora, Dawson, and Callan were dead than it apparently was to the clinicians treating her beforehand.

That’s my conclusion after watching the evidence.

Abdul El-Sayed wrote it himself.

Nobody hacked him. Nobody misquoted him. Nobody caught him on a hot mic.

He wrote it. And now apparently the offensive part is that CBS reported it.

El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, has some old social media posts he’d probably prefer people didn’t spend much time reading as we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11.

So naturally, people started reading them. One from 2020 compared the death toll from 9/11 to the death toll from COVID.

But the one that stopped me was written on September 11, 2021.

El-Sayed wrote that he mourned the roughly 3,000 Americans murdered that day — lives taken, as he put it, “in the name of my faith.” Then he kept going.

He said he’d spend the following day mourning roughly a million lives lost across three countries “in the name of my country.” There it is. Three thousand Americans murdered by terrorists.

Then America’s wars abroad. One mourning followed by another. I’m sorry, but those things don’t belong on the same scale.

You can oppose the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Plenty of Americans do. You can believe Washington made catastrophic decisions after September 11. You can argue that innocent people died unnecessarily because of them. Make that argument.

But that’s not what happened on September 11, 2001.

Nineteen terrorists boarded four commercial airplanes with the specific intention of murdering innocent people. They flew two into the World Trade Center. They flew another into the Pentagon. Passengers fought back on Flight 93 before it crashed in Pennsylvania.

Why is TIME magazine working so hard to convince you that young people aren't returning to church?

Gallup’s latest numbers show attendance at religious services among young men rising seven points to 40 percent — the highest level recorded since 2012–13. Attendance among young women rose three points and now stands at 39 percent.

The increase is larger among men, but the current rates are nearly identical. Roughly four in ten young men and women now say they attend religious services at least monthly.

Gallup found something else. The percentage of young men who consider religion “very important” in their lives jumped from 28 percent to 42 percent in just two years.

Those numbers are significant. They are also fascinating.

TIME seems irritated by them.

The magazine recently devoted nearly 2,000 words to throwing cold water on the possibility that something spiritually important may be happening among Gen Z. It didn’t disprove Gallup’s findings. It couldn’t. Instead, TIME gathered enough skeptical voices and competing measurements to give readers permission to ignore them.

PRRI found flatter numbers. Pew said there is no evidence that young men are “converting to Christianity in large numbers.” Other surveys measuring weekly attendance haven’t found the same increase Gallup reported among those attending monthly or more.

Fine. Put all of that in the story. But none of it disproves Gallup.

Gallup wasn’t measuring mass conversion. It measured attendance, affiliation, and the importance people place on religion. Weekly attendance is not monthly attendance. Conversion is not affiliation. Affiliation is not spiritual interest.

TIME knows the difference.

Yet the article repeatedly answers one finding with another survey measuring something else. It’s a clever way to generate doubt without ever demonstrating that the original numbers are wrong.

Dolly Parton died Tuesday in Nashville at 80.

And somehow even writing that sentence feels wrong.

Dolly was one of those people who seemed like she had simply always been here. The hair. The rhinestones. That laugh. That unmistakable Tennessee voice. The songs everybody knew whether they listened to country music or not.

But there was something else about her too.

Goodness.

Not the manufactured kind celebrities sometimes discover when a camera arrives. The real thing.

Her nephew announced her death in a video Dolly had asked him, years ago, to record for exactly this moment. Think about that. Even in planning how the world would learn she was gone, Dolly was thinking about the people who loved her and what she wanted them to hear.

That sounds like her. I’ve written a lot of columns this year about people behaving badly.

Today I don’t want to do that. Today I want to write about somebody who spent eighty years reminding us what behaving well looked like.

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born in a one-room cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains, one of twelve children in a family that didn’t have much money but had plenty of faith.

Her father famously paid the doctor who delivered her with a sack of cornmeal. That’s how poor they were.

And yet if you listened to Dolly talk about those years, bitterness was almost impossible to find. She talked about family. She talked about music. She talked about God.

The day after graduating from high school, she headed for Nashville.

She had talent. Lord knows she had ambition. And apparently, she had absolutely no intention of taking no for an answer.

Good thing. What followed was one of the great American lives.

An Excerpt from SCOTUS Overruled a Blue-State Judge Who Never Should Have Blocked This:

Of course it was a Massachusetts judge. Of course she was appointed by Barack Obama.

And of course, when President Trump signed an executive order in March requiring basic verification safeguards for mail-in voting, Judge Indira Talwani in Boston reached for the injunction pen, blocking the federal government from applying key provisions in 23 states and the District of Columbia ahead of November’s elections.

On Monday, the Supreme Court told her no.

Not on the merits. Not yet.

But the administration can move forward.

And before anybody starts hyperventilating about voter suppression, let’s look at what Trump actually ordered.

He directed Homeland Security to compile lists of adult U.S. citizens and make that information available to state election officials before federal elections. Why? So states have another tool for verifying who is actually eligible to vote.

He told the attorney general to prioritize prosecutions when officials knowingly issue federal ballots to people who aren’t eligible to receive them.

And he directed the Postal Service toward a system in which states identify the voters who are supposed to receive mail ballots before those ballots start moving through the mail.

That’s it. Read it again if you need to.

We’re talking about verifying eligibility, enforcing laws already on the books and knowing who is supposed to receive a ballot before the government puts one in the mail.

Apparently, this was alarming enough that 23 states and the District of Columbia went running to federal court before much of it even happened. Which brings us to the Supreme Court.

The majority didn’t need to settle every future constitutional question surrounding Trump’s order to expose the problem with Talwani’s injunction.

The Court basically told the states: you aren’t there yet.

An Excerpt from Iran's D-Day Has Begun

Iran has spent months threatening the world over the Strait of Hormuz. Don’t cross us. Don’t challenge us. Don’t ignore our rules. Don’t cooperate with the Americans.

Or else.

Well, the ships are moving.

That’s the part Tehran can’t explain away.

Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has begun recovering despite Iran’s threats, even as the regime announces new penalties for vessels that refuse to play by its rules. Some ships are using routes Iran doesn’t recognize. Others are sailing with their transponders switched off, making the precise traffic picture difficult to measure. But the larger point is becoming harder for Tehran to hide: intimidation isn’t working the way it used to.

Iran, naturally, is handling this with all the composure you’d expect.

Mohsen Rezaei, the regime’s new security chief, warned that countries cooperating with America’s economic campaign could be treated as committing an “act of war.” Tehran is also threatening retaliation against neighboring countries and economic interests if they help Washington tighten the screws.

Threats. More threats. And then some threats about the previous threats. Here’s a thought.

Maybe they’re nervous.

Because while Tehran is busy telling everybody what terrible things it might do, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is preparing to tell the world what the United States actually will do.

Bessent calls it an “economic D-Day.” He says the administration intends to marshal America’s financial power to isolate Iran and force countries still doing business with the regime to make a choice. Keep financing Tehran, or maintain access to the world’s most important financial system.

When teachers ask what their students did this summer, 8-year-old Finn from Shelby Township in Michigan might have the best story in the classroom. He’s having one last summer adventure, getting ready to pack his bags and head back to Times Square for a performance at the iconic Ellen’s Stardust Diner. He secured one of five spots to become a “Junior Starduster” for the day and sing LIVE at the iconic world-famous eatery on Tuesday, August 25. Finn was the winner of the 6-8 year old category. 

Out of over 300 submissions in less than 24 hours from kids all around the U.S. (and beyond), Finn was selected as one of 30 finalists to audition live at the diner on July 21. He performed “When I Get My Name in Lights,” from The Boy from Oz for the judging panel, which included Broadway stars Nick Barrington, Gilbert L. Bailey II, Lisa Howard, Bailey McCall and vocal and theater artist Katy Wolfe. 

Finn has been performing since before he could walk. He is an avid dancer and, though not quite two at the time, he freestyled his way through quarantine, much to the entertainment of his social media following. Finn is super sensitive, as well as empathetic, and can cry on cue. Finn is also a proud big brother to Oliver.

Lindsay Clancy is on trial in Massachusetts for strangling her three children — Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months old — in the basement of her Duxbury home in January 2023, one by one, after sending her husband out on an errand. Commentator Matt Walsh laid out what that means in the plainest terms anyone has: three small children, each aware enough to understand what was happening to the sibling before them, waiting their turn, calling for the one person who was supposed to protect them, only to discover she had become the danger itself. I won't improve on that description, and I won't try. If the facts are what prosecutors and Walsh say they are, there is no gentler way to say it.

Her defense is built on a claim of severe postpartum psychosis — nearly 20 medical visits in the months before the killings, testimony from her own mother that Lindsay described becoming psychotic and having thoughts of harming her children. The prosecution counters that she skipped prescribed medication and knew exactly what she was doing. A jury will decide which version the law recognizes. That's their job, not mine.

But here's what doesn't require a jury to sort out. While that trial plays out, a GoFundMe called the Musgrove Family Fund — set up for Lindsay's parents, Mike and Paula Musgrove, who relocated from Connecticut to be near her during the proceedings — has raised more than $850,000 toward a $2 million goal, verified by GoFundMe itself, with over 27,000 individual donors contributing so far. The page insists it isn't asking anyone to take a side on Lindsay's guilt. I understand the instinct behind that framing, and I even understand the parents' devotion. A mother and father showing up for their child, whatever she's accused of, isn't automatically a moral failure — plenty of parents sit through their children's worst chapters because that's what parenthood demands. I'm not interested in attacking Mike and Paula Musgrove as human beings grieving a catastrophe from every conceivable direction: grandchildren gone, a daughter facing life in prison, a family fractured beyond anything most of us will ever have to imagine.

An Excerpt from They Wanted Him Dead. Now They Want Him.

Some stories don’t need embellishment. They just need to be laid out plainly, because the facts alone do all the moral work.

Here they are.

Nausheen Gilkar and Omar Ahmed hired McKenna West to carry their child as a surrogate. Around 20 weeks into the pregnancy, doctors diagnosed the baby with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a severe congenital heart defect. According to the Texas Attorney General’s office, the couple asked West to terminate the pregnancy after that diagnosis.

West refused.

She fled to Texas, gave birth on August 12, and the boy she calls Gabriel underwent the first of three life-saving heart surgeries days later.

He’s alive.

Now those same biological parents are suing West for more than $100,000, alleging breach of their surrogacy contract and “malicious, outrageous conduct,” while simultaneously pursuing custody of the child whose pregnancy they had sought to terminate.

Sit with that for a second.

Let’s also be fair about what’s disputed here. Gilkar and Ahmed’s attorneys have pushed back hard on the characterization that they “forced” or “threatened” West. Court filings reportedly claim West initially agreed to the termination and even scheduled the appointment before changing her mind. Their lawyer, Lee Budner, calls West’s ongoing custody claims “baseless” and says they violate parentage rulings already secured in Alaska and California.

They get their day in court. But even accepting that version of events, I’m stuck on the same problem. They wanted the pregnancy terminated. West didn’t.

Gabriel is alive because it wasn’t. And now they want custody.

You don’t get to want him gone and then want him yours. Pick one.

A surrogacy contract is not a hunting license. It does not purchase the right to order the destruction of a living child because his heart didn’t form the way everybody hoped it would.

Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is serious. It’s one of the most severe congenital heart defects a baby can have. But children do survive it. There are treatments. There are staged surgeries. Gabriel has already begun that road.

Democrats generally fold faster and easier than a wet paper towel. When your belief system is more or less fully transactional, you don’t become known for the strength of your convictions. So, pardon me if I’m more than skeptical about a defeated primary candidate, or even the House minority leader himself, suddenly trying to talk tough about the DSA takeover happening inside their own party.

Let’s start with Rep. Haley Stevens.

She lost Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary to Abdul El-Sayed, and this week, on Fox News’ “The Sunday Briefing,” she said what a lot of nervous Democrats are apparently thinking out loud now that a new poll shows El-Sayed trailing Republican Mike Rogers by four points and underperforming with Black voters, women, and suburban voters compared to Kamala Harris’s 2024 numbers.

“It certainly makes sense to get rid of this Hasan Piker affiliation,” Stevens said, before pivoting back to insisting the party’s platform still beats the Republicans’.

“It certainly makes sense.” Really?

Hasan Piker is the streamer who has said he wants to “wipe his a– with the Constitution” and that “the United States should go f— itself.” El-Sayed campaigned poolside with him at a Detroit party for content creators just weeks ago.

And now it makes sense to get rid of the affiliation?

That’s not exactly moral outrage. That’s somebody looking at ugly polling and suddenly discovering a problem everybody else could already see.

Which is why I don’t really believe her. Then there’s Hakeem Jeffries.

He told “Meet the Press” he doesn’t support Medicare for All and doesn’t support “the DSA agenda as has been articulated by the DSA itself.”

I’ve always argued that life is the more bipartisan belief. Most days, the noise coming out of statehouses and cable news makes that argument hard to prove. This week, of all places, Massachusetts proved it.

Gov. Maura Healey signed the Prioritizing Patient Access to Care Act this week, a bill that passed the state House 119-33 and eliminates statutory gestational limits on abortion, leaving the decision to a physician’s “professional medical judgment” at any point in a pregnancy, with expanded legal protection built in.

Healey framed it as compassion, insisting families facing late complications shouldn’t have to leave the state to get care. State Rep. Jeffrey Turco of Winthrop framed it rather differently, and more accurately: “It allows abortion anytime, unrestricted, and in many cases, publicly funded until the moment of birth.” He didn’t stop there.

“This new law represents an extremist and dangerous position,” he told Fox News Digital. “This law is barbaric.” Read that twice.

That’s not a Republican talking point. That’s a Democrat, representing a Democratic district, in one of the bluest legislatures in America, using the word barbaric to describe his own party’s bill.

He wasn’t alone.

Nine House Democrats crossed the aisle to vote against this thing alongside every Republican in the chamber. State Rep. Chris Markey of Dartmouth called it “a very slippery slope” that puts doctors in an impossible ethical position and said plainly that you can be pro-choice and still see this law as “going beyond the norms of acceptability.”

State Rep. Alan Silvia of Bristol pointed out an irony too sharp to ignore: “We go to extraordinary lengths as a society to protect vulnerable life, saving whales and saving strays, yet when it comes to an unborn child, that same sense of protection too often seems to disappear.”

An Excerpt from Is Fauci's Pardon Legit If His Pardon Was by AutoPen?

Let's play a fun little game of "what does 'sign' actually mean," shall we? Because Dr. Anthony Fauci just spent a Senate hearing invoking the Fifth Amendment 111 times — one hundred and eleven, an Olympic gold medal in constitutional dodging — and buried underneath that spectacle is a question that's far more interesting than anything Fauci actually said, which was, of course, nothing. Was his blanket pardon from Joe Biden even valid in the first place? And if it wasn't, does the Fifth Amendment even apply to a man who might not be pardoned at all?

Here's the setup, delivered with all the drama it deserves. On his way out the door in January 2025, Biden issued Fauci a sweeping pardon covering any federal crime he might have committed going back to 2014, tied to his work running the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and steering the country's COVID response. Convenient timing, wouldn't you say? A decade of blanket coverage, delivered in the final hours, for a man who never stood trial for anything. It's the legal equivalent of buying insurance on a house that's already on fire and getting the claim approved anyway.

Except here's the wrinkle nobody in the mainstream press seems eager to chew on: there's a real, live dispute over whether Biden's autopen pardons — Fauci's very much included — actually count. President Trump and a chorus of House Republicans have argued that Biden's team ran the autopen on a batch of late-term pardons without clear evidence the man himself ever made the call to sign them. Not "did a machine sign it," mind you — that part, on its own, is boringly legal. Presidents from Lincoln forward have had subordinates put ink to paper for them, and a 2005 Justice Department opinion under George W. Bush blessed the practice for legislation, with the logic extending comfortably to pardons. A robot pen isn't the problem. Robots don't get indicted.

The problem, the real one, the one worth actually squinting at, is delegation versus decision. That same 2005 opinion was careful to say the president can direct someone else to move the pen, but he still has to be the one who decided to sign in the first place. An autopen can carry out a president's will. It cannot generate one. So the entire fight over Biden's pardons — Fauci's included — isn't really about the pen at all. It's about whether Joe Biden, in whatever cognitive state he was actually in during those final West Wing weeks, was the man who made the call, or whether a staffer somewhere decided for him and let the machine handle the rest.

An Excerpt from Two Women, Two Institutions, One Very Telling Weekon Townhall.com

Some weeks hand you an argument. This one handed me something better: a picture. Two stories broke within hours of each other, on entirely different pages of the news, about entirely different institutions, and sitting side by side they say more about this cultural moment than either one says alone.

Start with the WNBA.

On Wednesday, the league convened its transgender athlete task force — again — and emerged with an update that amounted to a shrug wearing a press release. "We will continue to engage all league stakeholders in the coming weeks and months," the statement read, before pivoting to scold "bad-faith efforts" to use the debate to "demean or marginalize others."

Translation: more meetings, more lecturing, still no answer.

The league's own collective bargaining agreement states plainly that "only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA." Four hundred-plus pages, and nowhere in them does the WNBA actually define what a woman is. Two former NBA players, Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White, have already declared for the 2027 WNBA Draft specifically to expose the hole in the fence.

The league's response to having that hole pointed out has been to hold more meetings about the fence.

Meanwhile, Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has stood alone, in public, defending the plain premise that women's sports and women's locker rooms should remain for women. For that, she's absorbed real physical punishment — most visibly a Flagrant 2 foul to the head and neck that ended with her on the receiving end of a "WHITE PRIVILEGE" accusation rather than an apology — and no shortage of online contempt from people who claim to care about protecting women.

Her own coach only offered a full-throated defense after criticism mounted over the initial silence.

So the people running the league that exists, by name and by charter, to celebrate women's athletic achievement can't bring themselves to say what a woman is.

I have some questions, and I'd genuinely like answers, because nobody seems to be offering any that hold up.

This week, President Trump signed an executive order reshaping the childhood vaccine schedule — trimming the number of recommended shots, splitting the MMR vaccine into three separate doses instead of one combined injection, and directing more federal research into the causes of autism. Within hours, the predictable chorus arrived. Anonymous public health sources quoted in wire reports. Unnamed officials whispering to reporters. Advocacy groups warning the sky is falling. A Public Citizen spokesman called it a "mindless anti-scientific assault." Doctors' associations lined up to push back. A federal judge has already blocked a prior version of similar changes after the American Academy of Pediatrics sued.

Here's my actual question, asked in good faith: what, precisely, is the problem?

Is it that spacing out vaccines poses some documented, catastrophic risk to children? Because I'll tell you what happened at my house this week. We brought home two new kittens, and at the vet, we were offered the option — routine, unremarkable, no hand-wringing required — to space out their vaccinations rather than deliver everything in one sitting. Nobody at that veterinary clinic accused us of "anti-science assault" for asking a scheduling question about a kitten's immune system. So why is the same basic question, asked about a human infant's immune system, treated as an act of civilizational sabotage?

Is the concern that splitting the MMR into three shots instead of one somehow reduces effectiveness? Because if so, that's a specific, testable claim, and I'd like to see it argued specifically rather than gestured at anonymously. Saying "this is dangerous" from behind a cloak of anonymity isn't science. It's a talking point wearing a lab coat.

Or is the real objection simpler and far less noble than public health? Is it that these officials, many of whom built entire careers on being unquestioned, cannot stomach a White House that keeps asking them to show their work? Because that's a different problem entirely, and it's one worth naming directly.

An Excerpt from Fauci: Now We Know

For years, this argument has run in a maddening loop: does Anthony Fauci know more than he's telling us? Did he understand the risks he wasn't disclosing? Did he actually believe the certainty he projected on our television screens night after night? We asked. We speculated. We demanded accountability, which was never his strong suit, and mostly we got silence, spin, or a lecture about trusting the science.

This week, the loop broke. We don't have to wonder anymore. Now we know.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) released the first tranche of texts recovered from Fauci's old government iPhone, and buried in a January 2021 exchange between Fauci, then-CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, and Dr. Vivek Murthy is a sentence that should end any remaining debate about what Fauci actually understood at the time. "Since many people have significant cytokines storm and fever after the 2nd dose," Fauci wrote, "this theoretically could be associated with miscarriage in the 1st trimester." Privately, in writing, to two of the most powerful health officials in the country, Fauci flagged a specific, plausible mechanism by which the vaccine he was publicly urging on every American, including pregnant women, could end a pregnancy in its earliest and most vulnerable weeks.

And then he said nothing. Publicly, the message stayed the same: safe and effective, no exceptions, no caveats, no mention of a theoretical risk serious enough that he'd raised it privately with the nation's top health officials. Johnson didn't mince words about it: "We tell pregnant women don't even have a glass of wine and yet we coerce them, convince them, sometimes mandated them, to get an experimental gene therapy as early as the first trimester. This is truly sick." He's right. There is no version of "follow the science" that includes telling women one thing while writing another.

Every so often somebody in public life says something so honest it accidentally torches the argument they were trying to make. It doesn't happen because they slipped. It happens because, in the moment, they forgot they were supposed to be managing perceptions rather than describing reality. This week's entry comes from Oxford, England, home to one of the oldest and most storied debating societies on the planet, where the president of the Oxford Union said the quiet part out loud with a clarity her critics could never have manufactured for her.

Back in June, the Oxford Union hosted a debate on the motion "The West is Right to be Suspicious of Islam." Arguing in favor were activist Tommy Robinson and actor Laurence Fox. Arguing against were former Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg and the Union's president, Arwa Hanin Elrayess, a Palestinian Muslim student. The debate was contentious well before anyone said a word — protesters blocked entrances, a scheduled speaker for the opposition couldn't get into the building, and the whole event had already survived a campaign to cancel Robinson's invitation outright.

The debate happened. The recording sat mostly unnoticed for weeks. And then it surfaced, and one line from Elrayess, delivered directly to Robinson, started making the rounds: there is a crowd outside "rioting against you tonight," she told him, and without the protection and generosity of "a Muslim Palestinian president and the mostly South Asian executive committee, you would be quite literally cooked."

Read that sentence again, slowly, because it deserves it. The president of the Oxford Union — an institution that has hosted prime ministers, dissidents, and controversial speakers of every stripe for two centuries specifically because Britain used to believe in letting people argue in public without fear of a mob — told a guest speaker that his physical safety that evening depended on the goodwill of the people running the room. Not on police. Not on university security, whose entire job that night was ostensibly to do exactly that. On her goodwill, and the goodwill of a mob outside that she herself acknowledged was there to do him harm.

For years, we were told to trust the process. Trust the intelligence community. Trust the experts who assured us that America's elections were the most secure in history and that anyone who questioned that was a conspiracy theorist, a threat to democracy, or worse.

Last week, we found out exactly how much that trust was worth.

On Thursday night, President Trump stood in the East Room and released a mountain of newly declassified intelligence—material that, by his own account, had never been shared with him while he sat in the Oval Office the first time, and never shared with the American people at all. The documents describe a Chinese Communist Party operation that acquired the personal data of 220 million American voters: names, addresses, phone numbers, party affiliations. Not a hack of some obscure database. The largest known compromise of U.S. voter information in history, gathered by a hostile foreign power with every incentive to use it.

And the people whose job it was to tell us? They didn't.

Buried in the documents is a message from an intelligence analyst describing how the president's Daily Brief was "deliberately massaged" to keep election-related material away from the president. An FBI official, in a separate exchange, casually described running what she called "a shadow government" inside the Bureau. These aren't Trump's words. They're the words of the officials themselves, in their own internal communications, now sitting in black-and-white for the country to read.

Predictably, the reaction from the usual chorus has been to shrug. Nothing new here, they say. We already knew adversaries try to interfere. Move along.

You can spend an entire afternoon trying to figure out what those men have in common.

The answer is Lindsey Graham.

That may be one of the most remarkable things about his life. He earned the trust of people who agreed on almost nothing else. In today’s Washington, where relationships rarely survive disagreement and loyalty often lasts only until the next news cycle, that is an accomplishment worth remembering all by itself.

I first met Lindsey Graham during the Clinton impeachment. He was still serving in the House of Representatives and was one of the impeachment managers making what much of the national media had already decided was an unwinnable case. Day after day, he was mocked, caricatured, and accused of motives that bore little resemblance to what I saw.

He knew exactly what people were saying about him. He knew the political winds weren’t blowing his direction. And yet he walked into the next hearing and calmly made the case again. Whether you agreed with him or not, you never had to wonder where he stood. That was my first impression of Lindsey Graham, and it turned out to be my lasting one.

Over the years, our paths crossed several more times. One afternoon, we happened to share an elevator in Washington. It wasn’t an earth-shattering conversation, and it lasted only a minute or two. But I’ve never forgotten it. He wasn’t looking over my shoulder for someone more important. He wasn’t checking his watch. He was fully engaged in the conversation we were having. That may not sound extraordinary, but in Washington it actually is.

Years later, I found myself sitting in a Manhattan living room with perhaps a dozen other people as Lindsey Graham explained why he wanted to be President of the United States. There were no television cameras, no applause lines, no campaign rally atmosphere. Just a room full of people listening to him explain his vision for America.

Of course, the people who were dead wrong are moving the goalposts. It’s the only way to save face. That’s why J.K. Rowling’s recent observation struck such a nerve.

Watching public opinion continue to shift, Rowling wrote, “As the vibe shifts… the obvious place to start is, ‘It’s not that I couldn’t see your point, but did you have to say it that way?’”

That caught my attention because I think she’s exactly right.

As more voices begin distancing themselves from ideas they once defended with unwavering confidence, the conversation has quietly changed. It isn’t, “Were we wrong?” It’s, “Did you really have to say it that way?”

That’s an extraordinary shift. That caught my attention. The debate itself seemed to have shifted.

Because it suggests the argument is no longer about whether uncomfortable facts should be faced. It’s about whether the people who spoke those facts aloud were polite enough while doing it.

For years, Americans watched an intense cultural battle unfold over questions that reached far beyond politics. Parents questioned whether children should receive irreversible medical interventions for gender dysphoria. Female athletes objected to competing against biological males. Women raised concerns about privacy and safety in sex-separated spaces. Physicians, researchers, teachers, and ordinary citizens asked whether dissent from prevailing orthodoxy would still be tolerated.

Too often, the response wasn’t a debate. It was punishment.

Ask uncomfortable questions and you risked losing your reputation. Parents were branded extremists for asking what schools were teaching their own children. Medical professionals who questioned prevailing practices found themselves under enormous professional pressure. Researchers, journalists, and ordinary citizens learned there was a price for refusing to repeat ideas they believed were false.

On Saturday, I had the privilege of joining a broadcast aboard the USS Intrepid. As classic warbirds took to the skies—followed and preceded by the most lethal fighting aircraft ever built—the entire spectacle spoke to me. Deeply.

Our ability to design the F/A-18, the F-22, and the F-35, launch them from sea and land, and watch them perform with breathtaking precision is one of the chief reasons evil tyrants around the globe think twice before testing America.

The fact that we use such innovation and overwhelming power in defense of freedom—and not for conquest—is a testament to both American military strength and American restraint.

But it also made me ask a different question.

How do we stay ahead of the rest of the world? How do we preserve that freedom not just for today, but for the next 50 or 100 years?

I believe a significant part of President Trump’s strategy answers that question in two words:

Energy dominance.Not energy independence. Energy dominance.

There’s a difference. Independence means meeting your own needs. Dominance means having so much energy that you shape the future for everyone else. President Trump understands that energy has become the world’s most valuable currency.

This weekend, the Marxist mayor of New York City was telling residents to keep their thermostats set at 78 degrees because, supposedly, it was the only way to protect the electrical grid. Apparently, nobody shared that last one with FIFA.

This week, Iranian fans attending World Cup events at SoFi Stadium showed up carrying the historic Lion and Sun flag — the symbol that represented Iran long before the Ayatollahs hijacked the country and turned it into a theocratic hostage situation with oil reserves.

And FIFA, in its infinite wisdom, decided this was a problem. Imagine that.

The regime that funds terror proxies, beats women, imprisons dissidents, hangs protesters, censors journalists, and spends its time threatening neighbors isn’t the problem.

The people carrying a flag opposing that regime are. Brilliant.

Only an international bureaucracy could arrive at a conclusion that stupid.

Let’s be clear about something.

The Lion and Sun flag isn’t some fringe symbol cooked up on social media six months ago. It represents a Persia and an Iran that existed long before the current regime. It is the banner carried by countless Iranian dissidents precisely because they reject what the Ayatollahs have done to their country.

That’s why the regime hates it. And that’s why FIFA should have kept its hands off it.

Three different high-profile people have pulled me aside over the last several days. All three conversations were off the record. All three involved people whose names you would know instantly. And all three were worked up about Donald Trump's apparent agreement with Iran.  

One called it appeasement. Another called it surrender. A third said Trump was giving away America's leverage for free.

I listened to all of them. I asked questions. I let them make their case. And when each conversation ended, I walked away thinking exactly the same thing: These people are nuts.

I don't say that lightly. These are accomplished people. Smart people. Influential people.

But on this issue? Nuts.

In fact, the more I thought about what they were saying, the more off balance I became. 

What has me off balance is how otherwise intelligent people can miss something this obvious. These are not stupid people. They're successful. They're respected. They've spent years around politics, diplomacy, and foreign policy. Yet somehow, they've convinced themselves that leverage should never actually be used. That's like spending years sharpening an axe and then refusing to swing it because you might dull the blade.

It's crazy.

One of them spent nearly 10 minutes explaining how Trump was giving away all of America's leverage. I kept waiting for him to explain what exactly he thought leverage was for.

To frame it? To put it in a trophy case? To admire it from a distance? The entire purpose of leverage is to use it. That's what makes this criticism so bizarre.

Iran didn't wake up one morning and decide to negotiate because the ayatollah had a change of heart. 

Iran came to the table because of pressure. Because of sanctions. Because of military realities. Because its options became increasingly limited. In other words, because leverage worked.

As the basket dropped to tie the game 83-83, I gently woke my bride from the couch.

She had endured enough already.

The emotional swings. The blown coverages. The missed calls. The impossible shots by San Antonio. The first 95 percent of the game had been a stress test for even the most devoted Knicks fan, and somewhere around the middle of the third quarter, exhaustion finally overtook her.

But the final blows in this series were about to be traded. And she wasn’t missing this.

Playing what felt like five-on-eight for most of the night, the New York Knicks finally grabbed their first lead late in the fourth quarter. Madison Avenue swagger met blue-collar stubbornness. And as had become the pattern throughout the Finals, the Knicks adjusted when it mattered most.

Mitchell Robinson—a backup center and arguably the least graceful free-throw shooter in modern basketball—ripped down a rebound that changed the game. Bench players made the extra pass. They milked the clock. They punished the Spurs for helping too aggressively off shooters.

And Jalen Brunson—who has clearly rehearsed these moments in empty gyms his entire life—did what leaders do.

He penetrated the lane, collapsed the defense, found open shooters, hit short jumpers in traffic, absorbed contact, and calmly buried free throws while twenty thousand hostile Texans screamed themselves hoarse.

Then came the final twenty-six seconds. The Knicks built the lead to four. 

And they never surrendered it again.

When the buzzer sounded and the trophy was handed over, what struck me wasn’t arrogance.

It was gratitude.

No chest-thumping dynasty behavior. No manufactured villain energy. No self-obsessed theatrics.

Just imperfect players, overcoming deeper talent, on the road, against overwhelming odds, acknowledging one another, acknowledging God, and understanding fully what it took to arrive there.

For younger Americans, the entire period feels almost mythical. Grainy black-and-white footage. Angry senators. Witness tables. Careers destroyed. Whispered accusations of communist sympathies and Soviet infiltration.

My friend Michael Riedel—the longtime Broadway columnist for the New York Post—is hosting audience talkbacks after performances of the show. He joined me on the air Friday to discuss it, and what struck me all over again is how fundamentally different America was then from what it is now.

Back then, Marxism, communism, socialism, and totalitarianism were not fashionable campus accessories or podcast aesthetics.

They were despised.

The American public had watched tens of millions die under Stalin, Hitler, Mao, and fascist regimes spreading across Europe and Asia. They had fought a world war. They had buried sons. They had watched free nations nearly disappear under authoritarian boots.

So, when allegations surfaced about communist influence inside institutions, Americans took it seriously.

Now, let’s be fair about history.

Joseph McCarthy and some of the investigators absolutely went too far in certain cases. Innocent people were smeared. Careers were ruined based on flimsy associations or hysteria. Fear can metastasize quickly in any society.

But here’s the part modern revisionists often ignore: The broader American rejection of communism itself was morally correct.

Communism was evil. Marxism was destructive. Totalitarianism murdered human beings by the millions. And Americans—Democrats included—understood that instinctively.

An Excerpt from Texas Just Won a Border Fight That Common Sense Settled Years Ago

Texas just scored a significant legal victory in its ongoing fight to protect its citizens from the consequences of federal immigration negligence.

And before the constitutional scholars start firing off angry emails, let me say something up front:

Yes, immigration enforcement is primarily a federal responsibility. It should be. The Constitution largely says so. 

The federal government should lead. The federal government should enforce. The federal government should secure the border. The federal government should do the job taxpayers are paying it to do. Which, as it turns out, was exactly the problem.

For four years under Joe Biden and Alejandro Mayorkas, Americans were told two things simultaneously.

First, that only the federal government could enforce immigration law.

Second, that the federal government wasn’t particularly interested in enforcing much of it.

And then came the third part—the really magical part. States weren’t allowed to do much about it either.

Now maybe it’s because I started working in radio when I was 14 years old, but I’ve spent most of my life listening to people explain things. And whenever someone has to explain something that hard, that often, and with that many lawyers involved, there’s usually a pretty good chance the explanation isn’t nearly as convincing as they think it is.

The Biden Administration’s position essentially boiled down to this:

“Only we can enforce immigration law.”

“Okay,” said Texas. “Then enforce it.”

“No.”

“Then we’ll help.”

“Also no.”

Apparently, that was supposed to sound persuasive. It didn’t.

It sounded like the kind of argument your children make when they don’t want to do a chore but also don’t want anyone else doing it either.

The Constitution grants authority over immigration to the federal government because America is one nation. We don’t need 50 different immigration systems. That’s common sense.

David Winters, Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum

David A. Winters serves as President of the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a leading national organization supporting the military community. Since 2000 the Fund has raised over $200 million for families of military personnel lost in Iraq and Afghanistan, and for several special projects serving wounded military personnel. Winters oversees the Fund’s strategic planning, fundraising and program execution. Winters has been with the Fund since its establishment in 2000 and became President in 2011.

In 2011 the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund launched its current program: building a series of ten advanced treatment centers for military personnel suffering the effects of traumatic brain injury. To date $100 million has been raised for this effort, and eight of the ten centers have already been built and are open and operating, with another currently under construction.

Winters also serves as Executive Vice President of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City. Winters’ responsibilities aboard Intrepid include management of events, special projects, government and military relations, and administration of the annual festival programs including Fleet Week, Kids Week and Free Fridays. Mr. Winters also serves as corporate secretary of the Museum. He joined the Intrepid Museum as a volunteer in 1992 and as an employee in 1993.

Winters also serves as the Executive Vice President and Secretary of the Intrepid Relief Fund, which provides support to military personnel and families. Winters’ responsibilities include administration of the Fund and directing fundraising efforts. Winters has worked with this effort since 1994.

Winters served on the 1812 Advisory Group from 2010 through 2012, assisting with the Department of the Navy’s planning for the War of 1812 Bicentennial celebrations. Winters’ involvement in supporting America’s military community began in March 1991, when he helped establish a volunteer charitable effort called Operation Support, which in just three months raised over a quarter million dollars to benefit the families of American military personnel lost in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Winters holds a BA degree from Fordham University.

An Excerpt from Why It’s Time to Disown Tucker and Megyn

Not long ago, at Charlie Kirk's memorial service, I sat listening as speaker after speaker talked openly about faith. Not performative faith. Not “spirituality.” Not vague moral language carefully engineered to avoid offending modern sensibilities.

Christian faith. Real faith. The kind that acknowledges man’s depravity, Christ’s sufficiency, and the utter miracle that grace exists at all. And among those voices was Tucker Carlson.

That’s part of what makes the current version of Tucker Carlson so profoundly disorienting. Because where did that guy go?

This isn’t about disagreement. Lord knows conservatives disagree all the time. I’ve disagreed publicly and privately with friends I deeply respect for decades. That’s healthy. It sharpens people.

This is something different. I have dozens of mutual friends and acquaintances who know both Tucker and me. To a person—literally every single one except one—they say some variation of the same thing privately: “That’s not the Tucker I knew.”

More than one has gone even further, wondering aloud whether something deeper is wrong emotionally or psychologically. I’m not qualified to diagnose anybody, nor would I try. But I would be lying if I said the change hasn’t alarmed people who once admired him deeply.

And strangely, Megyn Kelly now seems caught somewhere in the same gravitational pull.

The world is unstable.

Ukraine continues grinding through a bloody war of attrition. Iran remains the world’s leading exporter of chaos and terrorism while trying desperately to preserve its crumbling influence structure. Global shipping lanes remain vulnerable. Inflation has cooled from its worst levels, but Americans still feel the squeeze every single day they buy groceries, gasoline, or try to finance a home.

And floating over all of it is China.

Massive. Ambitious. Increasingly aggressive. Economically strained in some areas, technologically dangerous in others, and still trying to figure out whether it wants to become a responsible global power or simply the wealthiest authoritarian regime in human history.

That’s why this meeting matters.

Because of all the media caricatures of Trump as impulsive or chaotic, one thing he consistently understands better than most world leaders is leverage.

And right now, America still possesses enormous leverage over China if we are wise enough to use it. So if I’m President Trump walking into that room, I have three priorities.

One of the defining characteristics of the modern American Left is that it treats rules the way toddlers treat vegetables: tolerated only when unavoidable and immediately discarded the second they become inconvenient.

That sounds harsh until you watch the pattern repeat itself over and over and over again.

If they lose an election, the system is broken. If a court rules against them, the court is illegitimate. If constitutional checks prevent them from getting what they want immediately, then the checks themselves must be removed.

Not debated. Removed.

Which brings us to Virginia.

Following the Virginia Supreme Court’s rejection of a Democrat-backed gerrymandering effort, voices on the Left are now openly floating ideas that amount to court-packing at the state level—expanding, restructuring, or politically purging the court itself because it refused to produce the preferred ideological outcome.

Think about how insane that actually is. Not “we disagree with the ruling.” Not “we’d like to challenge the legal reasoning.”

No. The reaction increasingly sounds like: “If the institution won’t obey us, we’ll replace the institution.”

Jonathan Turley rightly pointed out the danger in this mentality. What’s especially revealing is how quickly national Democrats and activist voices moved toward the same familiar conclusion Americans have now watched for years: if constitutional structures stand in the way of progressive power, then constitutional structures themselves become the enemy.

And the justification for all of this? A low-turnout election. That’s the part conveniently skipped over in much of the coverage.
