For this current episode here (Episode #298), Mark Henkel provides the background and details of that first step. Building on the previous Episode #284 of August 23, 2023, with his “Story of the 10 Men and 10 Women,” Mark Henkel shows in this Episode #285 of August 30, 2023, how OMOW is a re-distribution of the better women to the jerk-men, disincentivizing all men from even trying to become better men for the women to choose.

For example, the celebration in 2023 is "Polygamy Day 23." Mark Henkel tells how Polygamy Day ® originated among activist members of the TruthBearer.org organization and transformed into an expansion to include any form of UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, to also celebrate. While providing the history of Polygamy Day ®, this Episode #283 also quietly demonstrates the subtle leadership that went into making this very special annual celebration both possible and protected. National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel teaches against the perils of "Polygadolatry" as he shares the history of the early polygamy movement from the 1990s. In the previous episode of this podcast, Mark Henkel provided three primary reasons why he is the National Polygamy Advocate, not the National Polygamist. As a follow up, here, Mark Henkel shares the 4th reason, one which applies to all three of the previous reasons. Mark Henkel shares how Polygadolatry appeared as a problematic phenomenon in the 1990s with a couple criminal cult leaders that hurt wives as well as foolish husbands, devastated families, and threatened to destroy the young movement for all genuinely normal pro-polygamists. Mark Henkel passionately teaches “Polygadolatry is wrong on every level,” that “we are all equals as human beings,” and that no "practicing polygamist" should ever be viewed as “superior” to any non-practicing pro-polygamy families or supporters. Prior to the interview, Mark Henkel had informed the producer that past situations with FOX had caused families in UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, to distrust it as a "Manufactured News Corporation." The producer had started the interview off by making a couple mistakes right away - including starting it by making a "Circus Act Request" ("C.A.R.") that causes further problems regarding UCAP families' distrust of FOX (as being no different than other manufactured news corporations). Mark Henkel tried to offer her explanatory corrections to help her to move beyond false stereotypes. Mark Henkel detailed, "The media only wants to talk about, and put circus acts of actual practicing families on display, only so that people can go 'Ooh' and 'Ahh.' And at the end of the day, they say, "Oh they're weird and I'm not going to support them!" rather than have the rhetorical debate..." Mark Henkel pleaded:"We need the ability and the allowance to make our case to the public without the circus act because the circus act never works, and always allows the media in control of the circus act display to manipulate it according to its own designs, make their fat paychecks, and leave the families to suffer when it's done." The producer did not understand that Mark Henkel was explaining the temporary challenge that she and he would have to overcome and resolve so that they could go further in the project." Instead, the producer quickly seemed irritated and brought the discussion to a premature close. Mark Henkel simply re-iterated his actual point, "I'm telling you where we're coming from."This is the final Part of this particular interview.

The producer was looking for polygamous families to produce a documentary. For over a week prior to actually being able to reach the producer, Mark Henkel had called the producer to no avail. In her initial media request, she explained that "The Incubator" is where her company prepares ideas (and more) at FOX TV Studiosfor documentaries, etc. In email correspondence prior to reaching her on the phone, Mark Henkel forewarned her how FOX had previously not been positive, honest, or trustworthy and that she would have to overcome some resulting distrust that families in UCAP (Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy) have toward that media corporation. In this Part 1, the producer rationalized that she could not speak for what others at FOX have done, yet she hoped to "open a dialog." Right off the bat, she made it clear that she was making what Mark Henkel had always labeled as a "Circus Act Request" ("C.A.R."). She directly stated, "What we want to do is a documentary or series with preferably a small community of polygamists."The remaining parts of this interview will be aired in the next coming episodes of this podcast.

The student writer from University of California San Diego was seeking to learn how and why polygamy was not having the same level of political popularity as same sex marriage. In this last and final Part 16 segment, Mark Henkel ended his point about letting UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, to be able to motivate "jerk-men" to be better men for the women to choose. Mark Henkel concluded, "You'll hear the argument, 'Then all the jerk-men are going to go without.' Hey! It's called, American Free Market. Let them grow up and then they'll have a reason to grow up, and then you end up with equilibrium anyway." This episode is the final part of this interview.

The student writer from University of California San Diego was seeking to learn how and why polygamy was not having the same level of political popularity as same sex marriage. In this Part 15 segment, Mark Henkel used his renowned “mathematics example” – that you (as any math student) first learn numbers, then you learn to add, then to multiply and divide, then algebra, then you learn on up to geometry up to trigonometry up to calculus. Mark Henkel compared the same process to learning husband skills, that any man who would be a polygamist would have to learn more, to grow up, and to genuinely care for the women. Mark Henkel concluded, “Those who are demanding ‘one man, one woman’ (OMOW), it’s like those who only know how to multiply and divide are trying to criminalize those who are capable of calculus.” The remaining final part of this interview will be aired in the next coming episode of this podcast.

In this Part 13 segment, Mark Henkel points out the insanity of having society littered with abandoned single moms due to "marriage-phobic males and playa baby-daddies" and yet making it a crime for polygamous men who adamantly want the responsibility of marriage. Mark Henkel uses his renowned "10 men and 10 women" soundbite to demonstrate two things: (1) OMOW, One Man One Woman, oppresses and deprives women the choice of better men, and (2) allowing women the free choice of UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, incentivizes lesser men to grow up and to start becoming better men for the women to choose. Mark Henkel ends this Part 13 with explaining why he identifies OMOW as "Marital Socialism" or "Marital Marxism," as being the Marxist cry of, "One for each so that each may have one! After making the writer chuckle with the good logic of his argument, Mark Henkel concluded, "Dr. Joyce Brothers said in ’94 [Dec. 22, 1994], ‘I would rather be the third wife of a good man than the only wife of a jerk.’" The writer positively affirmed, “No, that’s just good sense right there.” The remaining parts of this interview will be aired in the next coming episodes of this podcast.

The student writer from University of California San Diego was seeking to learn how and why polygamy was not having the same level of political popularity as same sex marriage. In this Part 11 segment, the writer re-phrased a re-iteration of her main question, "Why do you think that gay marriage is so much easier for people to accept than polygamy?" Henkel pulled no punches, saying, “The media.” Mark Henkel detailed how the media has taken control for the previous 30 years. "You have to use the language that they allow you, or they won't let you get published or they won't let you get heard. ...You have to use [the term] 'traditional marriage' to relate to 'one man, one woman' as opposed to [the term] 'marriage controllers.' So there is an Orwellian doublethink of language control in the media." Mark Henkel concluded that the media has "overwhelmingly pushed it and pushed it and pushed that agenda for the last 30 years to the point that there are now a generation of people that have grown up being promoted it and fully accepting it." Listeners will note that this comment about media pushing ideology and controlling language was stated in 2009, before the following decade of the next "new thing" called "social media" controlling what people are allowed to even see or hear under the misnomer of “censorship for protecting from misinformation.” The remaining parts of this interview will be aired in the next coming episodes of this podcast.

Mark Henkel also explained how the internet (to that point in history, before social media took over) had made it possible for the other Christians to see that they are not alone in seeing this, and that that is how the movement was able to grow with its different forms. He concluded, "You have to define polygamy based on the paradigm, of who's doing it, and how they're doing it, and why they're doing it, and not based on stereotypical misinformation." In this Part 9 segment, the writer asked who Mark Henkel thought was the strongest opposition to UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, and their goal of freedom. He began his reply by explaining how it takes liberal arguments to persuade liberals and conservative arguments to persuade conservatives - especially Christian conservatives. Citing a quote from George Orwell's book, "1984,” Mark Henkel empathetically understood the psychological challenge for Christians when they are faced with this startling dilemma of having to realize that all the great Christians they knew in their life were wrong about polygamy and the Catholic-invented OMOW (one man, one woman) doctrine. Using the metaphor from the book by Hans Christian Andersen, Mark Henkel concluded his point, especially about OMOW doctrine, "The Emperor has no clothes. It isnotin the Bible." The student writer from University of California San Diego was seeking to learn how and why polygamy was not having the same level of political popularity as same sex marriage. In this Part 8 segment, Mark Henkel observed that the battle between supporters of “one man, one woman” (OMOW) and same sex marriage (SSM) “is only going to get worse and worse.” Noting that neither side will stop or give up, Mark Henkel stated that that those who call themselves “conservatives” would eventually have to realize that they are being marriage controllers “for big government” and that that would bring them to embrace “The Polygamy Rights Win-Win Solution.” Mark Henkel also detailed how conservatives embracing the win-win solution would be similar to the historic statement that equally applies: “Only Nixon could go to China.” Mark Henkel noted that the win-win solution would bring “equality for all” to those who call themselves “liberals” too – noting that everyone would win; everyone would have freedom. Three times in three different ways, Mark Henkel said, “Americans will therefore thank polygamists for ending the marriage debate” with this win-win solution. The student writer from University of California San Diego was seeking to learn how and why polygamy was not having the same level of political popularity as same sex marriage. In this Part 3 segment, Mark Henkel explained how the new movement of Christian Polygamy arose, based on evangelical Christians deeply studying the Bible (as "sola scriptura") and therteby coming to see how polygamy was absolutely never declared to be a in anywhere in the Scriptures. He then explained how that new Christian Polygamy movement made it possible for the even larger movement for Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy (UCAP). Regarding Christian Polygamy, Mark Henkel quickly listed some of the key arguments and examples of polygamist heroes from the Bible, even how Jesus Christ told a parable that described Himself as a Polygamist Bridegroom. The writer even positively jumped in to note how she had learned that one of the famous Biblical polygamists had had hundreds of wives. Mark Henkel confirmed that she was referring to King Solomon. The student writer from University of California San Diego was seeking to learn how and why polygamy was not having the same level of political popularity as same sex marriage. In this Part 1 segment of the positive, educational interview, in order to build a foundation for his set of comprehensive answers to that main question, Mark Henkel opened by detailing the US Supreme Court's decision of Reynolds V. United States in 1878. He established four background points under which he would make his arguments. Anti-polygamy laws are unconstitutional in the States under the Tenth Amendment. The Reynolds case was only affirming an 1862 law where the federal government is only allowed authority under the "jurisdictional management" clause for non-State territories (Article 4, Section, 3, Paragraph 2). Would-be conservatives fall into hypocrisy to rely on that case under which "those 1878 liberal activist judges" concocted a nationwide precedent using a law that was limited only to non-State territories. For this Part 1 segment, Mark Henkel concluded his opening foundation, "The Reynolds case can not survive under a State's challenge to it. If a State was to allow polygamy, the federal anti-polygamy case of Reynolds would absolutely crumble in a heartbeat." National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was post-interviewed a second time by Zehra Mamdani for Columbia News Service, on March 4, 2008. This is Part 15 (the final one) of the second post-interview. It all stems from an article that the writer had written as a student for the Columbia News Service, from interviews she had conducted with Mark Henkel earlier in January, 2008. After the article had contained many negativities that needed to be corrected, Mark Henkel requested of the writer to conduct an initial post-interview on February 26, 2008, to which she agreed. They both also agreed to have a second post-interview later, which was conducted on March 4, 2008. This episode is the fifteenth part of that second discussion - the last and final episode of the post-interviews with this writer. Mark Henkel re-iterated how had been trying to protect the writer’s credibility. He had done everything he could to help her make an accurate and non-hostile article. Unfortunately, the writer still chose to “edit” her article in a still-unacceptable - some might even say, passive aggressively hostile - manner. Since 2008, Mark Henkel patiently gave the writer an obviously-significant amount of time to correct herself in this matter: he waited over 14 years before letting this true story be revealed to the public with this podcast in 2022. Yet, as Mark Henkel explained at the conclusion of this episode, massive events (which would occur soon afterward in the Spring/Summer of 2008) fully vindicated every action and every reason why everything that Mark Henkel had said and done with this writer were absolutely…“of necessity.”

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was post-interviewed a second time by Zehra Mamdani for Columbia News Service, on March 4, 2008. This is Part 11 of the second post-interview - and it is aery short one, relative to other episodes of this podcast. The reason for the shortness of this episode is two-fold. First, it shows how insulting the writer presented herself as she rudely went from "Next" to "Next" in her processing of point corrections. Second, it demonstrates an issue that had become a problem at that time: a force polygamist who was undermining the movement (with his force polygamy views) by labelling himself with a title of "Pastor" in order to pretend that he had more credibility than he possessed, so that manufactured news corporations would falsely quote him as if he was a qualified representative of the Christian Polygamy movement (which he was not). The two also agreed to have a second post-interview later, which they conducted on March 4, 2008. This episode is the tenth part of that second discussion. In this Part 10 segment, Mark Henkel clarified a reference that had been attributed to a deputy sheriff. Mark Henkel noted that that man was only familiar with Mormon Polygamy and that the man knew nothing about any other forms of UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy. The writer declared, "Next!" The remaining parts of the second post-interview will be aired in the next coming episodes of this podcast.

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkelwas post-interviewed a second time by Zehra Mamdani for Columbia News Service,on March 4, 2008. This is Part 9 of the second post-interview. It follows after an article she had written as a student for the Columbia News Service, from interviews she had conducted with Mark Henkel earlier in January of that year. The article contained many negativities to be corrected. So, the writer agreed to Mark Henkel’s request to conduct an initial post-interview on February 26, 2008. She and Mark Henkel also agreed to have a second post-interview later, which they conducted on March 4, 2008. This episode is the nineth part of that second discussion. In this Part 9 segment, the writer sarcastically asserted, “Ok, what are your other points. Let’s go!” After a calm pause, Mark Henkel began; he proceeded by making a correction to a statement from the writer’s article that claimed that "taking multiple wives is essential for them." Mark Henkel explained that, while it might be so for the couple being mentioned at that part of the article, it is not representative of other Christian Polygamists or of Christian Polygamy in general."Essential... is not an accurate statement." The writer claimed that someone from another site had said it too (the same person whom she had previously labelled as “Pastor”). As they had already discussed the issues about that person as a source, Mark Henkel again noted how that person was "utterly uncredible" and that that man's websites had already been ignored by the movement. Rather than learn from this mistake, though, the writer instead retorted, "Well, you will have to take that up with" (that man, by name). Mark Henkel declared, "I don't understand why you're protecting your elevation of a person who's uncredible. This is hurting you." the remaining parts of the second post-interview will be aired in the next coming episodes of this podcast.

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was post-interviewed a second time by Zehra Mamdanifor Columbia News Service, on March 4, 2008. This is Part 8 of the second post-interview. This episode is the eighth part of that second discussion. In this Part 8 segment, the writer repeatedly pretended,"I am listening to you, Mark." As her actions and choices revealed that her actions were not matching up with the pretended assertion, Mark Henkel exposed that outright gaslighting by continuing to repeat, "I am pleading wiith you to listen, but you're not listening." She instead gaslighted as if such pleading was somehow an act of "insulting" her. Over-confident, the writer declared permission to Mark Henkel to "post this on the internet." Realizing that the gaslighting was not working on Mark Henkel, the writer eventually asked, "Are we done?" Mark Henkel repeated that they had not even begun to address the matter. With hostile sarcasm, the writer concluded, "Right. Ok." The discussion did continue, however. In this Part 7 segment, the writer continued to pretend she was being kind while she was instead, as Mark Henkel again said to her, "You're stepping on me." Mark Henkel continued to try to give her the education on the topic, yet the writer refused to listen while pretending she was doing so. This episode is the sixth part of that second discussion. In this Part 6 segment, Mark repeatedly clarified that, not one thing but, a number of different things had happened over the course of 2006 and 2007 which were all contributory to the growth of the movement, of his organization’s membership, and of its website’s hits. The writer kept trying to suggest the growth was exclusively connected to the Warren Jeffs capture in August of 2006. Mark Henkel explained that additional factors from HBO’s “Big Love” in Spring of 2006, the Holm case going to the Supreme Court in January 2007, Season Two of “Big Love” in Spring of 2007, and more were also additional contributory portions to his reference to the movement’s growth as of Summer 2007 - not 2006. The movement’s growth was not connected to Warren Jeffs, as her article had previously seemed to imply. Mark Henkel concluded, “That’s why I am not being semantical. It really is important.” The remaining parts of the second post-interview will be aired in the next coming episodes of this podcast.

She and Mark Henkel also agreed to have a second post-interview later, which they conducted on March 4, 2008. This episode is the fifth part of that second discussion. In this Part 5 segment, Mark noted how the writer’s article had got specific details incorrect. He differentiated the issue of experts from the “committee called ‘they,’” that the growth of 2Wives.com or his organization’s membership was not connected to the criminal Warren Jeffs, and how 2007 is not 2006. The writer accepted these corrections, concluding,“Fine.” The remaining parts of the second post-interview will be aired in the next coming episodes of this podcast.

She and Mark Henkel also agreed to have second post-interview later, which they conducted on March 4, 2008. This episode is the fourth part of that second discussion. In this Part 4 segment, Mark Henkel noted how the writer was "stepping on" him for continuously repeating that she was going to remove both mentions of "sister site"and "2Wives.com" from an edited version of the article. Mark Henkel repeatedly told her that it was only the "sister site" reference, not the other reference to "2Wives.com," that needed to be removed. The writer passive aggressively continued to act as if that meant both references. Mark Henkel explained how he was trying to help her keep her credibility and then he expressed why he was getting frustrated - to which the writer took 8 solid seconds of silence before saying, "Are you ready to move forward now?"Mark Henkel replied, "The question is, Are you?"Mark Henkel explained that that specific issue was not resolved, and that solving it was how to move forward. The writer finally acquiesced and said that she would only take out the "sister site" reference alone, even saying it three times. National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkelwas post-interviewed a second time by Zehra Mamdanifor Columbia News Service, on March 4, 2008. This is Part 3 of the second post-interview. It follows after an article she had written as a student for the Columbia News Service, from interviews she had conducted with Mark Henkel earlier in January of that year. As the article contained many negativities to be corrected, the writer agreed to conduct an initial post-interview on February 26, 2008. She and Mark Henkel also agreed to have second post-interview later, which they conducted on March 4, 2008. This episode is the third part of that second discussion. In this Part 3 segment, the writer began asking whether Mark Henkel wanted to be taken out of the article. She asked the same “question” regarding the mention of the 2Wives.com website. Mark Henkel repeatedly explained that it was only the “sister site”reference but not the actual 2Wives.com site that needed to be removed. The writer continued to say both terms would be removed while also asking for Mark Henkel to go through the article “point by point” for correction. As she continued to play this psychological mind-game, the writer claimed that Mark Henkel was “veering off-topic” and supposedly trying to argue with her (when she was the one causing the argument), and she pretended that she was trying to supposedly “get this story right.” She repeated, “You keep spinning. You keep spinning.” Mark Henkel was never caught by the passive aggressiveness or mind-game. To get her attention, Mark Henkel even stopped and slowly counted out loud from one to ten. He then said very slowly and calmly, “Listen to me, please. You are talking to the National Polygamy Advocate. I have the knowledge to help you do this right. Listen to me, please.” Because she was a student, Mark Henkel explained that he was trying to help her to protect her. He also let her know, “One way or another, these facts are going to be told about this report.” He was simply trying to help her “get the story right.” (These facts are only being made public for the very first time with this podcast in the year 2022 – which is 14 years after these events happened.) In the end of this Part 3 segment, the writer asserted that she was supposedly not stepping on Mark Henkel. Yet, she still did it again, right away. Mark Henkel concluded,“And that’s how you’re stepping on it.” The remaining parts of the second post-interview will be aired in the next coming episodes of this podcast.

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkelwas post-interviewed a second time by Zehra Mamdanion March 4, 2008, following an article she had written as a student for the Columbia News Service, from interviews she had conducted with Mark Henkel earlier in January of that year. (This is Part 2 of that second post-interview.) Because the article contained many negativities that needed to be corrected, the writer agreed to conduct an initial post-interview on February 26, 2008. She and Mark Henkel also agreed to have second post-interview later, which they conducted on March 4, 2008. This episode is the second part of the second discussion. In this segment, the writer had begun to demonstrate that she was not all that positive toward Mark Henkel after all, responding to Mark Henkel’s professional expertise with statements such as “I don’t know that” – such an assertion which no unbiased journalist would ever make back to any interviewee. For confirmations, the writer repeated back to Mark Henkel the exact opposite of what he had previously told her. Mark Henkel said that it was not what he had said and admitted to her, “I’m tired of re-explaining that.” She responded, “Do you want to be taken out of the article?” She followed up such tactics by saying that she supposedly “did not want to argue” even though she was doing just that. Mark Henkel asked, “Listen to me…. Please hear me.” In the end of this segment, Mark Henkel repeated his positive intent, “I'm trying to help you here, and you're arguing with me - which is bizarre to me.” The remaining parts of that second post-interview will be aired in the next coming episodes of this podcast.

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was post-interviewed a second time by Zehra Mamdani on March 4, 2008, for an article she would write as a student for the Columbia News Service. (This is Part 1 of that second post-interview.) After interviewing Mark Henkel in January of that year, the writer subsequently published an article on February 19, 2008, distributed to many other news sources. Because the article contained many negativities that needed to be corrected, the writer agreed to conduct an initial post-interview on February 26, 2008. She and Mark Henkel also agreed to have second post-interview later, which they conducted on March 4, 2008. This episode is the first part of the second discussion. This second post-interview opened with the writer addressing how another writer had chopped up her article which she said was “unjournalistic.” Following with mutual agreement with Mark Henkel on that point, the writer then proceeded to ask Mark Henkel to identify points in her article that were specifically inaccurate. At one point, she asked a question in such a way that Mark Henkel had to point out that she had “asked the question backwards” - that it was"reverse stated." As he clarified that specificity, she laughed. Addressing a line she had written in the article about how long the movement of Christian Polygamy had been progressing, she tried to suggest that she was, technically, not inaccurate. As Mark Henkel pointed out, the movement had specifically begun on July 4, 1994 – which was almost 14 years since the time of that second post-interview, not the 12 years as she had mistakenly reported. He then noted how it was important to specify the marking date of July 4, 1994, because other journalists and writers could mis-use her less-than-accurate statement to repeat it – just like she had complained a writer had done with her article already. The remaining parts of that second post-interview will be aired in the next coming episodes of this podcast.

This episode is the fourth part of the discussion in which Mark Henkel sought to help the writer make needed corrections. In this episode, Mark Henkel addressed the problem of the article elevating two topical non-authorities, all of which poses a threat to the movement of unrelated consenting adult polygamy (UCAP). One of the ones so elevated had even been quoted using Mark Henkel's own unique style of terminology. The writer replied that that shows that the gentleman "reads your stuff" and TruthBearer.org. The problem, Mark Henkel explained, is "that he's being elevated when he's irrelevant." Bringing this Part4 of the podcast to a close, Mark Henkel concluded, "I have no problem with him being quiet. But I have a problem when he is being elevated - because of the threat he poses to our movement, as the anti-polygamists use him as a poster boy to say that 'force polgamy' is (supposedly) what we're about." Mark Henkel has always made it emphatically clear that that is not what the movement has ever been about.

After interviewing in the previous month, the writer subsequently published an article on February 19, 2008, distributed to many other news sources. Blind-siding the National Polygamy Rights Movement for Unrelated Consenting Adults as well as Mark Henkel himself, the writer's article contained many negativities that needed to be corrected. This episode is the third part of the discussion in which Mark Henkel sought to help the writer make needed corrections. In this episode, Mark Henkel even provided contrast that he had recently undertaken a positive project for a major television news magazine show, about which he would not yet name drop at that time (until after it aired); it was the show, "John Stossel Special on 20/20," which aired on ABC in July 18, 2008. As for her own article, the writer was self-convinced that she thought that supposedly "neutral" readers would not see what she had written as negative. Mark Henkel explained how too many of the manufactured news corporations"won't cut us any slack." The writer exclaimed with seemingly-sounded surprise, "You don't think this article was cutting you slack? Oh man!" That assertion only revealed how much she did not understand. Mark Henkel explained how "we have to be abso-positively perfect. There is nothing that can said or mis-quoted because then it gets used as a justification for the next thing I've got to defend, it becomes the next issue." Mark Henkel then brought up (from the writer's article) "that horrendous sentence"that suggested that normal healthy UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, supposedly "has a reputation for underage marriage and domestic violence." Concluding this Part 3 of the podcast, Mark Henkel vehemently declared against that untruth, "No such thing. We have no such reputation for that."

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkel was post-interviewed by Zehra Mamdani for an article she wrote as a student for the Columbia News Service, on February 26, 2008 - Part 1. Earlier, in January, 2008, the writer had a media request for that article she wanted to write. The subsequent interviews seemed to go positively. Her article, "Polygamists Hit the Web in Search of 'Sister Wives'" was posted on February 19, 2008, and it was picked up by many other news sources. Blind-siding the National Polygamy Rights Movement for Unrelated Consenting Adultsas well as Mark Henkel himself, the writer's article contained many negativities that needed to be corrected. This episode is the first part of the discussion in which Mark Henkel sought to help the writer make needed corrections. Mark Henkel explained how the media routinely has lied about UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy, and how that was why polygamists (and he) had to routinely be on the defensive against such untruths and misrepresentations. In this Part 1 of the longer post-interview, it had become clear that the writer's editor had purposely guided the writer to inject negativities in order to supposedly "create balance." Mark Henkel noted how that would compare to how history would condemn a concept of some journalist in the 1960s interviewing Martin Luther King Jr. about good and positive inter-racial marriage and then adding parts to their article about anecdotally some African American criminal men abusing Caucasian women, and then calling it supposedly "adding balance." This episode in the podcast provides Part 1 of that lengthy telephone post-interview.

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkelwas interviewed by Melinda Morrison, for the Oprah Winfrey Show, on March 21, 2008. This is Part 2 of 2 parts. The producer was making a "circus act request." Over the prior years, the Oprah Winfrey Show had aired a number of episodes about "the dark side of polygamy." Each time, Mark Henkel had routinely reached out professionally to the show to clarify that those spots were damaging to UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy. The producer was insistent that their show was so great, even pretending the extreme exaggeration that they supposedly got "hundreds of thousands of letters" from fans thanking them. No matter how sincerely Mark Henkel tried to help the producer understand, the producer refused to hear it; she began using passive aggressive tactics to suggest false accusations about Mark Henkel. Mark Henkel kindly pled to be heard, "We are saying, and you can choose to deny it if you want, but we are saying that your particular show has done damage to us. But we would like to see an opportunity for a bridge to be built there. My trying to express that to you, that you have done damage to our lives - as a show, maybe not you, personally. As a show, you have done damage to the very safety of our lives. And we are trying to be able to rectify that. That is what we need to be able to help you understand; and, then we can go forward and families will be more willing to trust you. That's what I'm saying. There is a hurdle that you have self-created as a show, and we would like to be able to get past that." Rather than be kindhearted and understanding about that, the producer held fast to the perceived gaslighting, next claiming that she did not think that their show "is the right fit for you guys." Later, she even went so far as to pretend that she had to "keep calming" Mark Henkel down. At that point, Mark Henkel calmly chuckled at the perceived gaslighting again and then he gently said, "I guess we are, unfortunately, near the end of this conversation." Less than 2 weeks after this interview, law enforcement raided the convicted criminal Warren Jeffs' FLDS community in Texas on April 3, 2008, taking over 400 children away. Mark Henkel had always opposed that criminal and expressed how much that normal UCAP families opposed Warren Jeffs and opposed the crimes he committed. The leading news cycle for months afterward was consistently about falsely stereotyping the false message as if polygamy was supposedly represented by those criminals. Hence, families in Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy (UCAP) were passionately relieved that nothing had been done or was even going to be done with the Oprah Winfrey Show because of this interview on March 21, 2008. By this interview and the way in which Mark Henkel successfully addressed the perceived gaslighting, UCAP polygamists had successfully dodged a bullet.

National Polygamy Advocate ™ Mark Henkelwas interviewed by Melinda Morrison, for the Oprah Winfrey Show, on March 21, 2008. This is Part 1 of 2 parts. The producer was making a "circus act request," wanting open cameras to be used on families in their own homes. Bypassing the media request ticket system, the producer had directly called a confidential number to Mark Henkel. When she was asked about it, her unwillingness to be open about how her company had received the telephone number led to a perception of her gaslighting from the start. The Oprah Winfrey Show had aired previous episodes about "the dark side of polygamy" and Mark Henkel had regularly reached out professionally to the show to clarify that those spots were damaging to UCAP, Unrelated Consenting Adult Polygamy. Mark Henkel tried to help the producer understand, but the producer instead chose to insist that their show had been positive, and then she began what was perceived as even more gaslighting. Rather than hear Mark Henkel out and thereby learn how her show could heal the damage to UCAP polygamists caused by Oprah Winfrey's past shows (in order to then work together), the producer instead chose to falsely accuse him of being an "angry person." Considering how the FBI raid of the FLDS occurred less than 2 weeks later in Texas on April 3, 2008, UCAP polygamists were passionately relieved that nothing had been done or was going to be done with the Oprah Winfrey Show because of this interview. This Part 1 of 2 ends with Mark Henkel explaining how it is so dangerous for any meida to have portrayed and to then-still portray UCAP families as "the secret world of polygamy." What happened after that will be aired in the next episode of this podcast.
