Dave was with us recently at our Everything Electric LONDON expo, and we just had to get him back here on the podcast.

Diving straight into how best we can tackle the climate crisis, along with the pros and cons of small nuclear reactors and off-shore and on-shore wind. We also learn what utter nonsense the WLTP range numbers of EVs are! Robert also shares the scary fact that the area of land currently being used for golf courses in the UK, if used for renewables could more than satisfy the whole country’s energy demand, and rightly he asks “Do we want Golf or Energy?!”. Join Quentin Willson and Dr. Euan McTurk as they explore the latest in electric vehicles battery advancements. As a consultant battery electrochemist who has been working on - and driving - EVs since 2009, Euan is one of the UK’s leading experts on EV batteries, and most definitely has his finger on the pulse when it comes to emerging battery technology.

This week Quentin welcomes Labour’s Shadow Minister for Transport, Bill Esterson MP. In this incredibly insightful interview, they discuss the transition to electric vehicles and Labour’s plans on this front. 

As an EV driver and politician, Bill recognises the many benefits of embracing electrification for individual convenience, air quality and economic growth. But he also highlights the current challenges to achieving this, much of which he feels stems from the government’s mixed messaging and the rise in misinformation and scepticism from certain media outlets. 

Bill also shares an overview of Labour's plans to accelerate the transition, including details of their "5 missions" framework, aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in renewable energy, fostering economic growth, and creating opportunities for people.

This week, Quentin Willson continues our fact-sharing mission with special guest Matt Cleevely of Cleevely EVs, one of the country’s most established and experienced EV servicing and repair specialists.

There has been much speculation about EV repairs, particularly when it comes to the battery. Many believe complexity, cost and safety concerns make EV batteries difficult to maintain and fix, but Matt argues that this is not at all the case, sharing many examples from his own busy workshop and national mobile repair business.

Quentin and Matt also explore where the real EV repair challenges lie, and talk about the work Matt is doing to share his business model within the service and repair industry, helping other garages and dealerships become EV-ready.

In 2020, she was part of a team that wrote a peer-reviewed paper linking COVID deaths to air pollution.

Robert is joined this week by Andreas Wallendahl, co-founder and COO of Tenet (not the confusing film). Tenet is a company that finance the purchase of new or used EVs.

After coming to the US from the UK to study at MIT Andreas settled in New York. Inspired by advancements in battery technologies, he set up Tenet with Stanford alumni Alex Liegl in 2021 and they have made huge steps within the US EV sector, which includes making the most of US citizen's federal tax credits.

As a result, Tenet can cut hundreds of dollars of a typical price, with the option to buy or trade vehicles. The US may not quite be Norway just yet in terms of EVs on the roads, but Andreas believes companies like Tenet can really make a real difference in EV adoption and the numbers increasing, especially in more clean tech receptive states like New York and California.

She studied Civil Engineering with a focus on Environmental Systems Analysis at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden.

In this episode, he hones in on Hydrogen and sets straight a few myths about its uses and cleanliness.

Helen Czerski is a British physicist and oceanographer and is a presenter on the Fully Charged Show. She has presented documentaries on a wide range of incredible subjects for both FC and the BBC. She is passionate about conveying the beauty and ingenuity of the physical world around us, and the perspective on the world that science provides.

After the amazing experience that was Fully Charged Live San Diego, Robert records a rant fueled solo podcast in his hotel room from across the pond. Electrify America is installing more rapid chargers across the United States than you can poke a stick at. They currently have over 800 charging stations with around 3,500 individual chargers from 150 kW up to 350 kW. They are currently installing 4 new charging stations or hubs every week. This is a seriously rapid roll out. Electrify America have developed ways to reduce strain on local grids with their installation of multiple rapid chargers. Robert Barrosa is the Senior Director of Sales, Business Development & Marketing for Electrify America, and in this week’s episode of the Fully Charged Show Podcast, he explains how this is being achieved and a little bit about the history of the funding that has made much of this expansion possible. In late 2016, the U.S. Justice Department fined VW $30 billion after the company was caught rigging two of its diesel engines to pass U.S. emissions tests. That figure included the funding new zero-emissions vehicle technology and in particular charging networks. Quite a sensible way of using the money from a corporate fine.

Robert is joined by Nikki Gordon-Bloomfield from Youtube channel, Transport Evolved. 

Her knowledge of the US EV market is exceptional. Robert and Nikki talk about the EV’s that are currently available, and the trials and tribulations the manufactures are facing.
