On today's episode, we had an inspiring conversation with Dr. Donald White about chemistry, his research and latest kids book series. Dr. White earned his bachelor’s and Masters’ in Chemistry and his PhD in Material Science & Engineering from the historic Tuskegee University. As a Tri-Alumnus, his research includes the synthesis, derivation, and incorporation of Nanocellulose into synthetic polymers. While a graduate at Tuskegee he was a part of one of the largest multidisciplinary consortia funded by The National Science Foundation: The Center for Sustainable Nanotechnology (CSN). While in The Center he was able to collaborate with researchers from Johns Hopkins, Wisconsin, and Minnesota Universities. His research has resulted in one publication: Impact of Silanization on the Structure, Dispersion Properties, and Biodegradability of Nanocellulose as a Nanocomposite Filler; one awarded patent (Nanocellulosic Compositions Patent No. 11,084,907), and one pending patent: Carbon Sequestration of Ambient CO2 via Nanocellulosic Material.

These green technologies have landed Dr. White a host of awards including: Emerging Research Nationals (Nano-Science Division),  Alabama Academy of Science (Chemistry Division), and Joint Annual Research Symposium(Chemistry Division). Also including, a nomination to the MIT-Lemelson’s Inventors Award.

Dr. White’s passion in research has led him into his mission of STEM education. He is the author of the interactive book series You’re A Chemist Too!” Under the trade name DaChemist, he goes into the public-school system to educate kids in middle and high schools of the importance of chemical research.

On today's episode, we had the pleasure of talking to Mickias (Mickey) Solomon about the dynamics of adapting to life in Ethiopia and American as well as what it takes to climb the corporate ladder. As a young kid, Mickey moved to Ethiopia and had to adjust to a new environment and language. Later on in his life, he had to integrate back into America. Life in Ethiopia and America differ significantly, as Mickey emphasizes in the episode. Everything from etiquette to the way the financial system is set up. This can be challenging for most people but what I find interesting is how Mickey was able to harness the best of both worlds to help him advance in the financial industry. 

Mickias Solomon is a Vice President within the Finance & Business Management line of business at JP Morgan Chase & Co. Prior to his current role, he worked in Global Transaction Banking Strategy & Business Management as well as Transaction Banking Sales at MUFG Union Bank. One of the things he pointed out in the podcast was the importance of networking and how that helped him transition from service industry to finance and banking.

On today's episode of American gypC Podcast, we're discussing radical self-care, Cryotherapy, and new year goals. As you know we love talking about health and wellness on this Podcast and New Years is usually a universal queue to do a status check on your goals and general well-being. 

Radical self-care goes beyond just physical health and includes emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. It is a form of self-care that prioritizes taking proactive steps to maintain one's overall well-being and happiness.

It involves setting personal boundaries, saying "no" to things that do not serve you, and taking time for self-reflection and self-discovery. It can include practices such as meditation, exercise, healthy eating, spending time in nature, pursuing hobbies and interests, and seeking help from professionals when needed.

The idea behind radical self-care is to create a healthy balance between one's physical, emotional, and mental needs, and to prioritize self-care as a means of preventing burnout, reducing stress, and improving overall health and happiness. By taking a proactive approach to self-care, we can cultivate resilience, strengthen our relationships with others, and lead a more fulfilling life.

As a form of radical self-care this month, our co-host Merc had a chance to try cryotherapy, which she describes in the podcast. Cryotherapy is a form of alternative therapy that involves exposing the body to extremely low temperatures, typically in a specialized chamber. The temperature in the chamber is usually maintained between -120°C and -180°C. It's often marketed as a way to reduce pain and inflammation, speed up recovery from injury, improve skin conditions, and boost energy levels and mood. Some athletes and fitness enthusiasts use cryotherapy as a way to enhance their performance, reduce muscle soreness, and improve recovery time after workouts.

Everyone's needs and definitions of self-care are different, the key is to identify what you need, listen to your body and emotions, and make self-care a regular part of your routine. Tell us what your idea of self-care is in the comment!

On today's episode of American gypC Podcast, we're talking to Dr. Craig Wright about the power of Numerology. Craig Wright is a native of Baltimore, Maryland where he studied religion and philosophy in his youth as a member of the Baltimore Ethical Society.  He holds degrees in Psychology and Metaphysics. He is an Ordained Metaphysical Minister, and a Certified Metaphysical Practitioner.

It was the tragic death of a friend in the summer of 1972 that prompted Craig to search for the meaning of life. This began his study of NUMEROLOGY. After many years of personal research, Craig went public in 1988. This was the year he met Rev. Hazell Cassell and was invited to be a guest on her radio program.

Craig's presentation on Numerology generated so much excitement that people began to ask him to share his knowledge about this fascinating science. The momentum has continued to grow. Craig's services have been sought nationally and internationally. He has served as a resource to several Human Service Agencies by conducting seminars and workshops. He has a wide array of clientele who consult with him regularly on personal as well as business matters.

Chris is a successful entrepreneur and change leader that has built on his experience working with the largest companies in America to start his own business from scratch.  He brings his unique style to leadership to build a culture of professionalism to the blue collar world of home renovations.  He left the corporate zoo and ventured into the entrepreneurial wild and started The Trusted Toolbox: Home Repair and Projects in 2008.  YES, he started a business right before the Great Recession, so timing the market is not his strength.  He survived through that time and has grown his business into a multimillion dollar handyman and remodeling company which has won numerous awards in Atlanta, GA.

Chris is originally from Jackson, MI, and he does use his hand to show where he lived.  He went to college and earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Mechanical Engineering.  His path to business ownership was similar to most people’s journey to their current position… spinning and winding… His first engineering job was at Curtiss-Wright Flight systems making airplane parts, but soon realized he needed to add some other business skills to his resume, he joined Accenture and began working with large banks to help them merge, which led him to SunTrust(now Truist) where he transformed the commercial loan operations department… That meandering path led him to make the leap into starting his own business, The Trusted Toolbox in 2008.  His company is focused on processes and training to deliver home renovations and earning customers trust each day.  The culture in the company is on continuous improvement and allowing the “artists” in the company to show off their talents as they are set up for success.  Chris appears regularly as a guest on WSB95.5’s Home FixIt Show and TrustDaleTV providing advice on home projects for consumers and answering their questions.

This episode was recorded when Shib The Metaverse information was first released. We break down some of the information for the metaverse and the Shiba Inu ecosystem. If you're not familiar with Shiba Inu it's a coin that recently came into existence and is termed "Dog coin" or "Meme Coin" but here on the show, we love Shiba. It actually has a lot of utility that Doge doesn't. For example the Shiba Swap, Metaverse, NFT Collection, and an amazing community all within a year. The price went up an astronomical amount within the last year and already made plenty of millionaires when it deleted some zeros. When we first got into Shiba it had 5 zeros in front of it and now it has 4 zeros and everyone is waiting for the .01 or .1 mark which would be life-changing for a lot of people, now that would be the biggest wealth transfer. We invest and believe in a lot of other coins and tokens but Shiba Inu is definitely one of our favorites. On today's episode of American gypC Podcast we're talking to DR. MITCHELL YASS about The Yass Method for diagnosing and treating chronic pain. He developed his method over 20 years of treating thousands of patients resolving their pain and returning them to full functional capacity.

Guest Bio:
The Yass Method interprets the body’s presentation of symptoms to identify the tissue in distress eliciting those very symptoms. Chronic pain affects 130 million Americans and roughly 1,000,000,000 people worldwide. The primary cause of chronic pain is misdiagnosis. This is directly associated with the baseless use of the MRI. I can provide theoretical, clinical and scientific evidence to substantiate my position. I have treated thousands of people resolving their pain even after surgery failed.

I have shown that in more than 98% of cases, the cause of pain is muscular, even when MRI findings identify structural variations like herniated discs, stenosis, arthritis or meniscal tears. The key to the diagnostic test is that muscular causes cannot show up. Therefore it is impossible for the MRI to be used as a way of identifying the tissue in distress eliciting the very symptoms being experienced.

There are 4 primary ways muscle causes pain: 1- a muscle strains and elicits pain or causes another muscle to compensate and strain eliciting pain, 2- muscle weakness or imbalance will cause a misalignment of joint surfaces creating pain at a joint. Although the pain is being experienced at the joint it is not coming from any of the structures, the joint surfaces are simply not moving correctly because of muscle weakness or imbalance of the muscles that attach to the joint, 3- a muscle can strain and refer symptoms (not only nerves refer symptoms)- tingling at the hand in the morning after sleeping on the side is from a strained rotator cuff muscle at the shoulder being over stretch due to being strained and overstretched when you sleep on the side on your shoulder, 4- a muscle can strain and impinge on a nerve- sciatica is the best example of this. Sciatica results from a muscle in the gluteal region called the piriformis straining and impinging on the sciatic nerve. So you have a muscular cause creating a neurological symptom. Sciatica cannot come from the lumbar as no nerve attaches to the spine; period. These 4 mechanisms of muscle creating pain account for more than 98% of cases of pain and other symptoms globally.

The reason for chronic pain since the late 1980s to now is quite simply the advent of technology and automation. People simply do less physically because machines and automation do it for them. On today's episode of American gypC Podcast we had the pleasure of talking to Paul Kennedy about world travel and the food & culture of Vietnam. For the past thirty years Paul has been working in the restaurant business, bringing together delicious foods and atmospheres where customers could create their own memories.  Growing up in Northern Virginia, Paul went off to study hospitality management at East Carolina University, followed by culinary arts at Johnson & Wales University.  After his education he departed to New York City where he continued to establish himself in the restaurant world, while also homing in on his love of writing and photography.

In 2018, with a backpack and some inspiration, Paul cashed in his proverbial chips and took off to see the world.  The inspiration clearly worked because he never returned.  His journey of uncertainty found it’s purpose of exploring what the world has to offer. 

Paul is currently working on a cookbook about Vietnam’s food and culture that will be available in 2022. Besides authentic Vietnamese recipes, Paul hopes to do his part in peaking the readers’ interest in understanding the world, in any aspect.  Once you do that, he feels like everyone will understand each other a little better.

California Lawyer Magazine has named Ms. Wilkerson a Super Lawyer Rising Star for the past 6 years. In January 2020 she received a social justice award from the Sacramento Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild and received the Attorney of the Year award from the Wiley Manuel Bar Association in Sacramento in August 2019.

Ms. Wilkerson was also honored with a human rights award from Chans Altenativ/Alternative Chance, a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating on the behalf of Haitian criminal deportees, the Power 40 Award from Oakland’s Allen Temple Baptist Church for being an influential young adult leader, and a Pro Bono award for her work with the AIDS Legal Referral Panel in San Francisco.

Four months after I was diagnosed with breast cancer her husband was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. They had just six more weeks together. Losing the man of her dreams made her question the real meaning of love. She decided to dedicate a full year to finding out what love really is and how to live it. Most of the year she was working in Haiti so that is where she made life-changing discoveries that rocked my world.

On today's episode of American gypC Podcast we're talking to Anthony Cotter about healthy lifestyle and about his platform. Anthony is the creator of Whole Life Goals, a platform which matches peoples health, wealth, and wellness goals to certified professionals who can help them achieve their goals.

Anthony Cotter’s health-conscious mother and party-friendly father raised him and his older brother in Queens, New York. She taught her boys yoga, meditation and raised Anthony vegetarian from birth. His mother and father divorced when Anthony was five, and he and brother lived with an abusive stepfather for the next few years. After his mother’s passing on Christmas Eve, Anthony and his brother moved in with their drug-addicted father. His brother would wind-up in Rikers Island, later diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. 

Anthony left home and lived on the streets for years, bouncing around from couch, to park bench, to rooftops and living in a wooden shed during winter months. At seventeen, he moved into his first apartment in South Ozone Park, and found himself in the world alone, battling addictions and poverty.  Anthony was around twenty when he was given a book called “A Diet for A New America,” by John Robins. He decided to remove all animal products from his life and started to become mindful of what he consumed. He acquired a high school equivalency diploma and went on to study nutrition in Brooklyn College. He left college and went to the Culinary Arts Institute to learn more about raw food techniques and vegan cooking. 

With his partner, he moved from Brooklyn to San Francisco and opened InBloom Foods; a raw food catering company. He taught meditation and yoga throughout the juvenile hall systems with the nonprofit group Mind Body Awareness Project. Eventually, Anthony and his partner moved back east to work in finance, opened a yoga studio, had their first child.   Today he lives in the Green Mountains of Vermont with his two children. He is most fulfilled when speaking about health and wellness, sharing stories, products, books, music, documentaries and connecting great people together.  Throughout his life he always sought guidance from elders, gurus, and mentors who taught him how to create a better life, and to always follow a worthy ideal. Anthony’s health and wellness success simply comes from focusing on his Movement, Meals, Mind & Money philosophy.

Out of this philosophy, Whole Life Goals was created.

A portion of all proceeds from the businesses maintains the “You Can Have IT All!” orphanage in Bombo, Uganda, where we currently support over 30 children with shelter, food, and school supplies.

On today's episode of American gypC Podcast we had the pleasure of talking to Steve Lawrence about the concepts of meditative psychology. Steven is the director of The One-Pointed Mind (OPM) a workshop for educators on concepts surrounding meditative psychology and the implications they hold for optimizing human development.  For the past twelve years, Steve has lived and taught in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and China. Upon deciding to become an international teacher Steve attended The College of Saint Rose, with a focus in Social Studies Education. Since then, he has acquired his master’s degree in education. Steve is currently completing the Clinical Psychology PhD program at Saybrook University.  Prior to becoming a teacher, Steve was introduced to meditation by Leonard Perlmutter, and the American Meditation Institute in Upstate New York. Once a teacher it was clear how meditative practices belong in education; Steve immediately set out to share these ideas with his students and colleagues. Since then, The One-Pointed Mind Workshops have grown to include a range of topics, being shared in teaching workshops in seven countries and thirteen schools.

On today's episode of American gypC Podcast we are talking to Jesus "Eddie" Campa about leadership development and leading through adversity. Jesus is the CEO & Founder of Leading Through Adversity LLC and Owner/CEO of AB Strategic Security Group LLC. After 27 years of service as a public servant in the law enforcement field, most recently serving as the Executive Director for the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training for the State of Oklahoma, he retired for the second time from the field of Law Enforcement at the age of 48.  

He first retired in 2014 from the El Paso County Sheriffs Office as the Chief Deputy after a successful 20-year career. He then served as the Chief of Police for the Ector County Independent School District in Odessa, Texas, for a short time. He then went on to serve as the Chief of Police for the City of Marshall, Texas.  

His three years as Chief of Police in a city impacted by racial divisions led him to create and implement the innovative No Colors No Labels Initiative designed to remove the preconceived notion that the Police were racially motivated. NCNL provided a safe community for all citizens. In 2017 he was named Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian of the Year by the NAACP. 

He is also a public speaker, keynote speaker, and creator of the El Paso County Anti Bullying Coalition and the No Colors No Labels.  He is a recognized nationally and internationally expert on leadership and a recognized national and international security expert. He hold a master's degree in Criminal Justice and Security Administration and currently working on a PH.D. in Public Service Leadership.
