He works for the United Nations as the Chair of the UN Subcommittee for the Prevention of Torture, he helped write South Africa's guidelines on torture prevention and he works on protecting the rights of people worldwide who have been put in detention. In preparation WJP Project Coordinator Nooshin Erfani-Ghadimi came into the studio to discuss the symposium, why South Africa has taken 13 years to make torture a crime (when before the torturer would only be charged with Grievous Bodily Harm) and how we can get more people to speak out about this extreme kind of violence.
