Af: Vir beide was dit 'n eerste besoek; hulle oë blink met verwondering by elke nuwe ontdekking.
En: For both of them, it was a first visit; their eyes sparkled with wonder at every new discovery.

En: The sun had long decided to creep behind the horizon and in the fading light, as their battered safari vehicle meandered around a dusty road, they noticed something big and gray.

En: "Look there!" whispered Elzabe excitedly, pointing with a delicate finger at the large gray mass lying in front of them.

En: Johann nodded, his eyes gleaming in the fading light of the day.

En: "It's massive!" he said with a laugh. "I wonder how long it's been here?"

En: Their guide, a man with a face full of wrinkles and eyes that told many stories without words, brought the vehicle to a stop.

En: "Do you think it's just a piece of rock?" he asked with a mischievous twinkle in his eye.

En: Johann and Elzabe brought their heads closer together, lightly shaking their shoulders as they tried to stifle the giggles escaping from their mouths.

En: They had no idea that the "rock" before them was actually a drowsy rhinoceros peacefully lying in the cool evening air, lost in dreams.

En: With a jolt and a snort, the "rock" suddenly came to life.

En: A large cloud of dust rose, and Johann and Elzabe stared wide-eyed as the rhinoceros slowly lifted its massive head.

Af: “O genade!" het Elzabe uitgeroep.
En: "Oh my goodness!" exclaimed Elzabe.

En: Their hearts began to beat rapidly, and the ground shook under their feet from the rhinoceros's movement.
