  • 28 - Why Can’t I Stay Hard? The Hidden Psychology of Sexual Performance Anxiety with Shay Doran

What if your erection problem isn’t actually about your penis?

In this episode of Ghosted, Gagged & Gay!, I’m joined by men’s coach Shay Doran, who specializes in helping men overcome sexual performance anxiety, erection problems, and the fear of losing their erection during sex.

We’re going beyond the usual conversation about erectile dysfunction to explore what can actually happen when sex starts feeling like a performance test. Why can worrying about staying hard make it harder to stay hard? How does one difficult sexual experience turn into a cycle of anxiety and avoidance? And why can a man be completely attracted to his partner and still struggle with his erection?

We also dive into the gay male experience of sexual performance anxiety, including the pressures around masculinity, body image, penis size, sexual roles, being a top or bottom, and the expectation to always be confident and sexually “ready.”

    We talk about:

🍆 Sexual performance anxiety and erection problems

🧠 The psychology behind losing an erection during sex

🏳️‍🌈 Performance anxiety among gay men

    ❤️ Attraction vs. sexual performance

📱 Porn, unrealistic expectations and real-life sex

🔥 Masculinity, body image and sexual confidence

🔄 The “what if it happens again?” anxiety cycle

💬 Shame and vulnerability around sexual difficulties

🧠 The deeper emotional patterns behind sexual anxiety

💡 Where to start if you're struggling with performance anxiety

If you've ever thought “Why can't I stay hard?”, worried that something is wrong with you, or avoided sex because you're afraid of losing your erection, this conversation is for you.

  • 27 - He Sabotaged Real Love to Chase a Ghost (Gay Dating Story)

What if the emotionally unavailable men were never the real problem, what if you were terrified of the one person who actually showed up?

In this week's listener story, we follow a gay man stuck in a brutal cycle: chasing men who pull away, sabotaging a genuine healthy connection, and watching it all unravel in real time. What looks like bad luck in gay dating is actually fearful attachment at work, a deep, subconscious terror of being truly loved.

I walk through the psychological patterns behind this story: why gay men chase emotionally unavailable men, how self-sabotage in relationships protects you from something scarier than rejection, and what fearful attachment really feels like from the inside.

This one hits close to home for a lot of people, if you've ever pushed away someone good while running toward someone unavailable, this episode is for you.

  • 26 - Sex Is Easier Than Intimacy?! Trauma, Shame & the Sex Scripts with Radiance Sanneman & Vanessa Cushing

Why does sex sometimes feel easier than intimacy?

In this episode of Ghosted, Gagged, and Gay, Lonay Halloum is joined by Radiance Sanneman (trauma specialist + IFS therapist) and Vanessa Cushing (AASECT-certified sex therapist) to unpack how trauma and shame shape our dating patterns, our nervous systems, and the way we use sex to manage anxiety or earn closeness.

We talk about the difference between real chemistry and a trauma response, the signs you might be using sex as regulation, and how common “sex scripts” (masculinity performance, top/bottom expectations, porn pressure, and the “no feelings” rule) can quietly block emotional safety and real connection. We also share a “sexy-not-clinical” way to ask for what you want early without turning the date into a job interview and we get honest about self-consent: the subtle ways we override ourselves to keep someone interested.

Bonus: After the outro, stay for a short IFS demonstration between Radiance and Vanessa so you can hear what “parts work” sounds like in real time.📍Guests: Vanessa Cushing & Radiance Sannemann

  • 25 - “I Thought He Was ‘Chill’”: A Grindr Date Story About Mixed Signals, Secrecy & Self-Abandonment

A listener sent me a Grindr date story that starts off promising (good morning texts, voice notes, “no games”) and ends exactly the way your nervous system is already predicting.

In this short solo episode of Ghosted, Gagged, and Gay, we unpack the moment “chill vibes” turns into emotional avoidance, the difference between privacy vs secrecy, and why “you’re intense” is often what people say when you stop accepting confusion.

    In this episode:

The “chill” profile that’s actually a warning labelHow your body clocks misalignment before your brain doesPrivacy vs secrecy (and why it matters for emotional safety)A simple boundary line you can borrow: “I’m not available for confusion.”

  • 24 - Privacy vs Secrecy in Gay Dating: Shame, Closeting & Emotional Safety with Samuel Garza Bernstein

What’s the real difference between privacy and secrecy in gay dating and why does it matter so much for emotional safety?

In this episode of Ghosted, Gagged, and Gay, Lonay is joined by Samuel Garza Bernstein (screenwriter, author, and playwright) for a conversation about how shame shapes the way gay men date, love, and protect themselves. We talk about what “authenticity” can look like when being publicly out isn’t safe, the real-life risks that shaped earlier generations, and how those survival strategies can still echo in modern dating dynamics today.

We also get into Samuel’s new book, the first biography of Hollywood icon Roddy McDowall and what Roddy’s life reveals about visibility, chosen family, and living truthfully in a world that punished it.

    In this episode, we cover:

Authenticity vs visibility: what it means to live “authentically” without being publicly outThe difference between privacy and secrecy in gay dating (and why it impacts trust)How shame shows up in dating patterns and emotional availabilityRoddy McDowall’s story and what queer history can teach us about love today
