Dr. Chau holds a doctorate in pharmacy and an MBA from the Roseman University of Health Sciences. With over a decade of real estate investing experience, Dr. Chau has honed his skills under the mentorship of renowned realtors Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi. In 2014, he embraced the potential of Airbnb by listing his properties on the platform, and in 2016, he delved into Airbnb arbitrage with a niche layer deeper by sepcializing in corporate rentals. Dr. Chau’s business model is unique as he leases homes, furnishes them to corporations and collects the spread. From insurance companies to IT and construction firms, Dr. Chau has built deep relationships with these corproations providing high cashflow occupancy which has allowed him to scale quickly to replace his job as a pharmacist and then some, ultimately achieving financial freedom and time.

Currently he controls over 30 properties and three multi-family buildings, Dr. Chau has become a respected mentor, guiding aspiring students in the art of corporate housing arbitrage. He not only works with billionaires but also empowers his students to generate significant income for their clients while keeping sight of the bigger picture.

2,000 nights as a guest, six continents, and over a hundred cities, Daniel has been living permanently in Airbnbs for the last seven years. Madison is a startup genius, born and raised in a family of entrepreneurs and a third to triplets. So already this is going to be three times more interesting because of her background on tech startups and how she’s transitioned that experience into the short term rental industry, as the founder of Mount. A company she essentially started when she was only 12 years old. I have two practitioners today in the lab and they come in with a craft, purpose and partnership. The core pillars when experimenting in vacation home rentals. We use the word practitioners intentionally because we believe in doing the actual work and then offering it as a service. It means they understand the industry deeply having gone through it themselves, starting outside their comfort zones and pushing past their fears.

For both of them, it all started with design. Jordan McDonough and Bri West have been in business offering design for other people's short-term rentals for only six months and they've been crushing it. Jordan is your creative design guru, whose design vision is always aligned with that of Bri, who on the other hand is your ambitious marketer and consultant. Derrick's story started like many investors but took a very unconventional route creating a very unconventional real estate financing company.

Derrick started flipping units out of state with other people’s money with his partners who were also college friends at Harvard based out of Boston. They did this all out of state, hitting the ground running. The other people’s money that they used came from levering the money of their Harvard network to invest in Atlanta. They began scaling their portfolio with quadruplexes, condos, and flipping those too.

The short-term rental industry is a niched real estate industry of its own, and Dave Goodfellow was able to scale his operations within a unique niche of what he calls ApartHotels — giving him the most cash flow through a lean repeatable model.

While some have niched into short-term rental investing, Alex Jarbo niches down even deeper and specifically develops and builds short-term rental properties to the tune of cabins and tiny homes including land plays for multiple lots to build large short-term rental communities.

Alex Jarbo was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. After high school, he felt that going the traditional route of college and university wasn't for him, so at the age of 18 years old, he decided to join the Marine Corps. Although it was scary at first, he gradually felt more confident and comfortable with his decision to serve his country. Over time, he was able to embody the core values of the Marines: Honor, Courage and Commitment. He served for 4.5 years in the Marines from his station in Washington, DC and towards the end of his service, started to read books about real estate investing.

Alex, at the young age of 27, is now the founder and CEO of Sargon Investments. He is a short-term rental developer and manager. He is a regular contributor to some of the top real estate investing podcasts in the world. He is also the host of the YouTube channel Alex Builds where he teaches how to properly build and manage short-term rentals.

As mentioned, there are a few things that differentiate a short-term rental developer from other developers. First, they build places that are designed to be used as short-term rentals, so they are high quality and well-maintained. Second, they often focus on larger scale developments because they know hotel operators will want to cherry pick the best locations in a city. This means more inventory spread around, which increases the overall supply of available units for visitors across multiple areas of town. Third, with their expertise in short-term rentals, developers like Alex, understand the importance of community engagement and support for local businesses.

Bill Faeth has been an entrepreneur for most of his life, and it all started with his love for sports. It started with an opportunity as a kid, when both he and his mother were invited to a Lakers game. Alex Sabio is a respiratory care practitioner turned real estate investor who not only lives and breathes real estate but he does so while still having his profession as respiratory therapist. Alex has grown his portfolio while hiring the best resources to help him and selecting the right kind of properties to maximize thousands of dollars in net cash flow per month to optimize for freedom and essentially spend quality time with his family. Ryan Luke is a real estate investor with a very unique model of rental arbitrage baked into his portfolio of properties that he owns as well. Ryan uses his arbitrage model to scale quickly combining cash flow for ownership. He spent months perfecting his business before coming up with a very niched concept in the short term rental industry doing it uniquely overseas, primarily in Dubai. Stay humble and work hard - Moriya Rockman, Co-Host of the Hospitable Host and Founder of Triangle Luxury, Smiling House Luxury and Villa Tracker. She fell in love with hospitality by chance when she immigrated to the Swiss Alps with her husband. Be courageous enough to face rejection. Liam Carolan, a real estate investor and co-author of the Hospitable Hosts started out with humble beginnings as a product manager. The thought of leaving his job began weighing heavily on him so he devised a plan for how to do it. How do you build a brand in the STR community, stand out, and make your guests feel even more welcome? This episode, I have the pleasure of stepping into the lab with my man, John Hildebrand, who is all about investing in short term vacation homes away from home while building a  brand in the STR community. Sometimes we are pulled in many directions when pursuing our goals. If you have a lot of projects on your plate, you need to find the most efficient way to work so that you can stay sane and maintain momentum. Don’t let the overwhelm break you, instead break all your goals down into manageable chunks. I mentioned a book that teaches the importance of mapping out your NEXT 15 MOVES. After all, if you want X Y Z then you have to work on A B C first.

This is where prioritization comes in handy. It helps you organize your thoughts and take action by focusing on what's important first. It can be easy to get sucked in wanting to try everything, but in the lab, you need to work effectively and efficiently. You want to be able to experiment strategically. And then come back with a solution after developing an understanding of what is required to solve the long-term goal. This is where tools like reverse engineering, accountability, and restructuring can allow you to surpass your goals as it relates to the direction you’re headed.

No matter how many steps you have to get to point Z, it won’t feel as overwhelming when your goals are mapped out because you get to be more conscious about each step. The whole point is to experiment, fail, learn and repeat; and when you do this enough times - you’ll surpass what you envisioned. Remember you’re just one experiment (at a time) away.

This episode is to remind us all in our respective labs that often we are closer to our goals and dreams than we think. Most importantly it’s important for us to remember that on the other side of our goals exists a resource, person, insight, idea or piece of information that we don’t know that will help us get over the huddle. It’s important that we face this opportunity starting with WHO not HOW.

In the short term rental space, as a virtual airbnb superhost, the answer to our problems is usually just one call away. Whether it’s a plumber, contractor, manager or even a runner, the solution should never start with “I”...it should always start with ‘who.’

You can apply the same concept in your bigger experiments. To overcome the obstacle and or simply get over the otherside – in this day and age, your answer may truly be just a call away…to a mentor, paying for a consult or simply asking someone who’s been in the exact place you want to be in like some of the guests that I feature on this podcast.

So reflect and think, what is it that I am trying to accomplish and who can help? Am I just one call away or one experiment away? Chances are you might be.

The answer may not always lead you to the first major win in your lab but every question and experiment gets you closer. Remember you don't have to win all your fights; neither do you have to fight them alone, but you must fight all of your fights. So ask yourself, are you asking who?

As short-term rental hosts, we are no stranger to mistakes. Humans make mistakes, it's normal but when they keep happening over and over again, then we're not being careful enough. Even though some mistakes may not be your fault, there is still something that you contributed to whatever happened - and ultimately, these choices are yours and yours alone to shoulder; nobody else's. Not to punish yourself or anybody, but to build on, and that’s ownership. When you deflect responsibility you are missing out on opportunities for change in the future.

When we had our new car broken into after our honeymoon, I wondered what precautions I could have taken. It also taught me that there are people in the world that understand taking ownership, and it helps if we do too. There are many different pieces involved with hosting guests remotely - so many variables and people to take responsibility for. So you’ve got to do your due diligence. In business as well- accountability is an important value, whether it be towards your work, business or dreams. What is the difference between staying in Airbnbs vs staying at hotels? And if you stay at both, can you take some elements from both that work in both places? Typically, it's all about an experience that is convenient.

Think about who your customer is and what they're looking for. Hotels usually have a concierge that makes guests feel taken care of plus room service and valet. An Airbnb host might find ways to provide those things too - like meeting up with guests before they arrive or doing a consult session before arriving.

Using both types of accommodations can provide us insight into where we can improve upon traditional hotel offerings. If you are hosting remotely like we do, these insights will come in handy - do your guests prefer privacy or would they like to receive personalized luxury services when they check in?

When it comes down to it, privacy is one big element that elevates an Airbnb from regular accomodation to a premium product. Just remember there's always going to be tradeoffs between 'hands-on white glove' service and giving guests a lot of space. Figure out which side of the coin suits you best as an Airbnb host.

Bailey is a Real Estate Investor, a young budding Entrepreneur, and a college drop-out. He started his career at just the ripe age of 20 while studying, taking calls and reservations in the middle of class. He began to ask ‘why?’ when he’s earning so much already. Bailey was one semester away from graduating college then he decided to drop out. It’s an incredible story. No one approved, especially his parents.
