Welcome back to my podcast “こんなときのにほんご”.Hi! I'm Megumi! It’s great to have you tuning in!It’s the …final episode.
Bye!

Suddenly, this is the last edition of “こんなときのにほんご”.
There's no topic or anything, but today I’d like to learn that ‘長い間ご愛好いただき、ありがとうございました!’ phrase and go home with it!
“ご愛好” means “to like and enjoy a thing”.
A similar Japanese word is “ご愛顧”, but this refers to a situation where money is involved and where the person is well looked after or given special affection. It is worth recognising that the latter is used for business partners.
Now, PODCAST ‘こんなときのにほんご’ is a programme that has been running steadily for a whopping five years or more, since April 2020.
I have continued to distribute the weekly podcast on my own with a lot of thought, but as I have lost almost all of my listeners, I have decided that it would not be beneficial to continue any longer.
I will continue to support you in your Japanese language studies!
It would be great to meet you somewhere sometime!
So, take care, everyone, and Bye!

A:……とまぁ、そんな感じで、日本語は奥が深いのよ。
B:【___】Aさん!よく知ってるわ〜

答えは、1.さすが、です。
「さっすが」というと、なんだか、ただただ良い褒め言葉に聞こえますが、実のところ「さすが」には「評判や期待のとおりの事実を確認し、改めて感心するさま。」 と言う意味があります。そのため、目上の人には使わないほうがよいとされています。
ちょっと気をつけてくださいね!

For this reason, it is considered better not to use it with superiors.
Please be a little careful!

Which explanation is correct for ‘Satsukibare’? Please choose by number.
1. only be used on sunny days in May

The answer is Three!
This word ‘えんぎ’ may be difficult to understand outside Japan.
In fact, few Japanese people use it with a proper understanding of its Buddhist meaning.
Here we tell you what it means as widely understood.
”えんぎ” is meant as a ‘omen’.
‘えんぎ’ is ‘ない’, so ‘えんぎがない’ refers to a sign or feeling that something bad is about to happen and is inauspicious.
For people preparing for exams and other activities, the words ‘おちる’ and ‘すべる’, which mean to fail, are also to be avoided as much as possible. It may be a good idea to be careful not to talk about it.

Here's a quiz. Please choose the word that fills in the blanks.
①とてつもないです
②ぜんぜんです
③とんでもないです
The answer is three!
The word originally had three meanings.
The first means unexpected.
Secondly, it means that it is not a good idea.
Third, it means strongly denying what the other person has said.
It is used for things such as.
1とんでもない発見だ!
2とんでもない!夜の水泳は危険だよ!
3えっ?とんでもない、彼女がそんなことするわけないでしょ。
Gradually, these have come to mean ‘to be humble and lightly deny the other person's compliments’.
To put a finer point on it, ‘it's outrageous’ is actually also a misuse. In Japanese grammar, ‘it's outrageous’ is considered correct, but ‘it's outrageous’ is very commonly used in modern times and should not give a bad impression unless the occasion is very formal.

What’s up! Welcome back to my podcast “こんなときのにほんご”.
Hi! I'm Megumi! It’s great to have you tuning in!
It’s the 217th time. Let’s get started!
That's all for today.

Until then, おつかれさまでした! Bye!
— English —
What’s up! Welcome back to my podcast “こんなときのにほんご”.
Hi! I'm Megumi! It’s great to have you tuning in!
It’s the 217th time. Let’s get started!
But before I start, I'd like to say a few words.
From this time, I'm going to start speaking only in Japanese! The reason is that no matter how hard I try, I can't pronounce it like a native English speaker now, so I thought it would be hard to hear if I kept talking like this. I'll put English in the caption, so if you're interested, you can listen while watching!
So here is this quiz.
What is the opposite of “private opinions”?
The correct answer is “HONNE”.
In Japanese, there is a common saying: Honne To Tatemae. “Honne” refers to words that are said from the heart.
I speak my true feelings, “Honne wo haku” or “Honne ga deru”. In Japanese, it is often said that “honne to tatemae’ means ‘to speak one's true mind’.
Use your true feelings and tatemae to communicate well.
That's all for today.
Thanks for joining me today, and I'll see you next week.
Until then, おつかれさまでした! Bye!

Hello! I'm Megumi! It’s great to have you tuning in!
It’s the 214th time. Let’s get started.
Do you remember in our 211th proadcast I talked about the onomatopoeia of disease?
For example, what would you do if you were suddenly injured in Japan?
If you are urgently ill or have a serious injury, you may need to call an ambulance.

急を要する病気だったり大きな怪我だった場合は、救急車を呼ぶ必要があるかもしれないですよね。
In Japan, call ‘119’ to call an ambulance.
Today, instead of a quiz, let's practice a conversation.
日本では、救急車を呼ぶ場合、「119」に電話します。
今日は、クイズではなく、会話の練習をしてみましょう。
(電話のコール音)
相手:119番消防です。火事ですか、救急ですか?
you :けがです
救急車が行いく住所はどこですか?
you : 新宿のビルですが、詳しい場所がわかりませんそこから何か見えるものはありますか
you :大きな怪獣が見えます
わかりました。では、近くまで行きますので、ビルの外に出て待つとこはできますか

Let's take a break from quizzes today and practise onomatopoeia.
You probably know that the Japanese language is full of onomatopoeia, but did you know that it can also be used for illness?
今日はクイズはお休みして、オノマトペを練習しましょう。
日本語にはオノマトペがたくさんあるのはご存知の通りだと思いますが、病気にも使えるのは知っていますか?
For exsample,
頭がガンガンする。(Pain like being beaten).
喉がイガイガする。(Dry, uncomfortable feeling as if something is stuck).
胃がチクチク痛む。(Stabbing pain).
などです。
It is quite difficult to convey detailed nuances, but being able to use these expressions is useful for communicating symptoms when you visit a hospital.
細かいニュアンスを伝えるのはなかなか難しいのですが、このような表現を使えるようになると病院に行った時に症状を伝えるのに便利です。

Japanese has a wide range of ways of expressing speed, as there are numerous onomatopoeic words, but basically it is advisable to focus on ‘fast’ and ‘slow’.
日本語は、擬音語も多く存在するので、スピードの表し方は幅が広いのですが、基本的には「早い」「遅い」を中心に学習していくといいでしょう。
例は次のとおりです。
・遅い=ゆっくり、のろのろ、
・早い=素早く、サッと、

②どちら様ですか
③何様ですか
The answer is Two! ‘どちら さま ですか?’ is natural Japanese.
Repeat after me.
GREAT!
If you do not know what kind of relationship the person you are meeting for the first time is to you, you need to phrase it in a way that is not rude, just in case.
The three phrases are about as different in English as ‘Who are you?’ and ‘May I ask your name?’
Let's be sure to speak politely.
初対面の人が、自分にとってどんな関係の人間かわからない場合は、念のため、失礼でないフレーズが必要です。
3つのフレーズは、英語で言うと、“Who are you?”と”May I ask your name?”くらい差があります。
丁寧に話すように心がけましょう。
That's all for today's episode.
Thanks for joining me today, and I'll see you next week.

店員:ああ、すみません。確認しますので、少しお待ちくださいね。
①なんえん

③いくら
The answer is Three! ‘いくら ですか?’ is natural Japanese.
Repeat after me.
PERFECT!
Although the meaning can be understood in ①, but ‘いくらですか?’ is usually used when asking for a price in Japanese.
1 ‘なんえんですか’でも理解はしてもらえるのですが、日本語では通常、値段を尋ねるときには「いくらですか」を使います。
That's all for today's episode.
Thanks for joining me today, and I'll see you next time.

The phrases I will cover today are shopping.
You are choosing clothes. You have found something nice and are matching it in the mirror.
今日取り上げるのは買い物のフレーズです。
あなたは洋服を選んでいて、素敵なものが見つかったので鏡で合わせていました。
店員:そちら秋の新作なんですよ〜!可愛いですよね!
You:そうなんですね、あの〜、これを[____]んですけど
店員:ありがとうございます〜!ではこちらへどうぞ!
(試着して)

①しちゃくしたい(試着したい)
②きたい(着たい)
③ほしい(欲しい)
The answer is One! ‘これを しちゃく したい んですけど’ is natural Japanese.
Repeat after me.
GREATE!
Clothes are often very different in image from seeing them and wearing them, so you want to try them on.
However, entering a fitting room without permission is not allowed - please learn the phrase ‘試着したいんですが’ so that you can say to the shop assistant.
服って、見るのと着てみるのとではイメージが全然違うことも多いので、試しに着てみたいものですよね。
でも、勝手に試着室に入るのはNGです。店員さんに一言断れるように、ぜひ「試着したいんですけど」のフレーズを覚えてくださいね。

It’s Megumi here! It’s great to have you tuning in!
This is the 203rd time.
Take another fun Japanese quiz today. Let's get started!
Today, let's consider phrases for when you want to order at a restrunt.
The answer is TREE! ‘おみずも ひとつ ください’ is natural Japanese.
Repeat after me.
PERFECT!
In fact, the answers to this question are all correct in Japanese: 1, 2 and 3.
However, we Japanese do not usually use words such as ‘ちょうだい’ or ‘ほしい’ in shops to people we are not familiar with, such as shop assistants. In this case, the theory is to use the polite word ‘ください’.
実は、今回の回答は、日本語としては1、2、3のどれを使っても通じます。
ただし、お店で、店員という親しくない人に対して、「ちょうだい」や「ほしい」といった言葉遣いは、通常しません。
この場合は、「ください」と丁寧な言葉を使うのがセオリーです。
Incidentally, “おひや” and “おみず” mean the same thing.
ちなみに、お冷、とお水は同じ意味です。
That's all for today's episode.
Thanks for joining me today, and I'll see you next time.
Until then, おつかれさまでした!

You:はい。今日と明日の予約をしています。
ホテルマン:確認いたしますので、少々お待ちくださいませ。
①もらえますか
②あげますか
③ほしいです
The answer is One! ‘にもつは あずかって もらえますか?’ is natural Japanese.
Repeat after me.
(repeat please!)
Great!
In Japan, if you have a reservation for accommodation, you can often leave your luggage free of charge, even before or after check-in.
However, it is always a good idea to ask just in case, so familiarise yourself with the phrase.
日本では、宿泊予約があれば、チェックイン前やチェックイン後でも無料で荷物を預かってもらえることが多いです。
ですが、念の為に尋ねておくと安心ですから、フレーズに慣れ親しんでおきましょう。

'Doing more than you are capable of' is expressed in Japanese as 'せのびをする'.
Sometimes this is an important attitude, but it can be hard if you always do "せのび", so study hard, step by step!

「めろめろになるほどカッコいい!かわいい!大好き」な気持ちを表す、若者言葉を知っていますか?
The answer is "めろい".
I have only recently learned about this term, but apparently it is commonly used on social networking sites.
I have not heard it in conversation and would recommend that it is not yet used in formal situations, such as at work.
私も最近知った言葉なのですが、どうやらSNS上でよく使われているようです。
会話で聞いたことがないので、会社などフォーマルな場では、まだ使わないことをお勧めします。
