Mortgage approvals in Ireland have hit their highest monthly level in at least 15 years, with more than 6,200 mortgages approved in July.

First-time buyers continue to make up the majority of those approvals, but getting that approval is only one part of the process, and actually getting from mortgage approval to getting the keys can be a very different story.

Researchers here in Limerick are calling for Ireland's sugar tax to be extended to sweets, chocolate and confectionery, including biscuits.

Research led by Limerick-based Dr Frank Houghton of TUS has highlighted how packets of biscuits costing as little as 55 cents can contain more than 1,500 calories.

And the researchers are asking whether making these products more expensive could help tackle obesity, particularly among children and young people.

Five Midwest and Southeast Chambers of Commerce have united to demand a clear timeline for the N24 Limerick to Waterford route. Representing over 110,000 employees, the group sent a letter to ministers urging the government to fund and construct the route as a matter of urgency.

A University of Limerick graduate who was forced to flee Gaza during the war has spoken about rebuilding her future through education here in Limerick.

Raghad Altaee was in the final stages of her degree at the Islamic University of Gaza when the conflict began, eventually leaving Gaza for Egypt before coming to Ireland on a University of Sanctuary Scholarship.

We begin this morning with a major piece of infrastructure that could have a huge bearing on the future development of Limerick. Uisce Éireann is seeking planning permission to massively upgrade the Bunlicky Wastewater Treatment Plant in Limerick.

The aim is to increase the city’s capacity to deal with wastewater so that more houses and businesses can be built without the wastewater system becoming a constraint on growth.

The owner of a family-run newsagent in Limerick is warning that independent corner shops are being pushed to the brink by rising costs and a new annual tobacco and nicotine license.

A new report from the National Transport Authority has found that almost half of public transport users say they have felt unsafe at least once.

More than eight in ten say they have witnessed some form of anti-social behaviour, while 15% say they've experienced verbal aggression and 10% physical aggression.

Housing and homelessness have now overtaken addiction as the biggest reason people are seeking help from Ana Liffey.

In Limerick, Ana Liffey is working directly with people sleeping rough, people struggling with addiction and those trying to move away from criminality and towards recovery.

Its Limerick Rough Sleeper Project is working with people in some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable, while the Midwest Outreach Addiction Team is providing harm-reduction and health supports right across the city and into rural communities.

Plans for the future of transport in Limerick are now out for public consultation, with proposals looking at how people will move around the city and county in the years ahead.

It's the annual scramble for a school bus seat and for some families in Limerick, they're being told there simply isn't one available. Parents in areas including Croome and Adair say dozens of children are facing the prospect of having no school transport when the new term begins, despite living only a few kilometres outside the eligibility distance.

One of those parents is Mi Hall from Croome, and he's been speaking with Live 95's Caleb Brennan.

Earlier this year, Grace's Law came into effect. It bans the use of scrambler bikes and quad bikes in all public places.  

It was named in memory of Grace Lynch, a 16-year-old girl from Dublin who was tragically killed after being struck by an illegal scrambler bike in Finglas in January.  The family campaigned for the law, and they are now making an appeal to Limerick and other local authorities.

The cost of on-campus accommodation at the University of Limerick is set to increase for the coming academic year.

UL says fees will rise by an average of 1.35%, with rooms now costing between just under €5,500 and more than €8,000 for the academic year, depending on the accommodation.

A local campaigner who secured an apology from University Hospital Limerick over his late father’s care has been writing about his experience.

Mike Daly in Limerick City made history by successfully securing a second inquest into the passing of his father, Mike Daly Snr. The initial 2012 inquest ruled the death as natural causes due to cardiac failure, but a groundbreaking fresh inquiry was ordered and heard in 2023, and a verdict of medical misadventure was recorded. 

Following High Court action against the HSE in 2024, UHL issued a formal letter to Mr Daly’s widow, Mary, admitting liability and apologising unreservedly for the "hurt, stress, and upset caused”
