  • 127 - A Faith That's Patient - Hunter Gillis | First Assembly Church

This past Sunday, Pastor Hunter Gillis preached a message entitled "A Faith That’s Patient." Drawing from Hebrews 11:11-12, Pastor Hunter reminded us that faith is about patience, not pursuit, as we learn to wait on God and trust in His timing. He explained that God's promises do not depend on our performance, but on His faithfulness, even when we struggle with doubt or uncertainty. Through the examples of Sarah and Abraham, we are reminded that God fulfills His promises in His perfect timing. This message encourages us to remain patient, trust in God's Word, and have confidence that He will accomplish what He has promised.

    ✍️ Notes
Title: A Faith that’s Patient – Hunter Gillis

“And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.” Hebrews 11:11-12 (NIV)

⭑ Faith is about patience, not pursuit

'Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Psalms 37:7 (NIV)

'Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope [WAIT] in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31 (NIV)

⭑ God’s promises don’t depend on our performance

“A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.” “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.” So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “ ‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!.” Mark 9:17-24 (NIV)

If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself. 2 Timothy 2:13 (NIV)

'As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:10-11 (NIV)

“Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.” Genesis 21:1-2 (NIV)

  • 126 - Vision Sunday 2026: Unless the Lord Builds the House - Ben Johnson | First Assembly Church

This past Vision Sunday, our Lead Pastor, Ben Johnson, preached a message entitled “Unless the Lord Builds the House.” Pastor Ben reminded us that “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain” (Psalm 127:1), emphasizing the importance of resting in God while faithfully taking responsibility to build what He has placed on our hearts. As First Assembly looks ahead to its 100th anniversary in 2029, we reflected on God’s faithfulness throughout our church’s history and celebrated the many lives impacted through salvations, baptisms, missions, and ministry. Pastor Ben also shared the vision for making room for more through the South Property. As we look ahead, we are invited to become champions of this vision through prayer, planning, planting a financial seed, and participating in faith, trusting God’s provision and following His will, His way, and His timing.

  • 125 - Faith That Builds - Ben Johnson | First Assembly Church

This past Sunday, our Lead Pastor, Ben Johnson, preached a message entitled "Faith that Builds." Pastor Ben explored the faith of Noah, who trusted God’s warning and built an ark to save his family, as described in Hebrews 11:7. He reminded us that faith begins with hearing God through His Word, as Romans 10:17 teaches. Pastor Ben also highlighted how faith builds for others, showing us that our obedience can have an impact beyond ourselves. Finally, he reminded us that the door is still open, pointing to Jesus’ words in John 10:9: “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved.” This message encourages us to hear God, build in faith for the sake of others, and respond to the open invitation of Jesus.

    ✍️ Notes
Title: Faith that Builds – Ben Johnson

It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith. Hebrews 11:7 (NLT)

    1. Faith hears God
So, then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 (NKJV)

    2. Faith builds for Others

    3. The Door is Still Open
“God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water…” 1 Peter 3:20 (NIV)

I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. John 10:9 (NKJ)

  • 124 - The Walk of Faith - Ben Johnson | First Assembly Church

This past Sunday, our Lead Pastor, Ben Johnson, preached a message entitled "The Walk of Faith." Pastor Ben explored the life of Enoch and what it means to walk with God by faith, reminding us that walking with God is relational, directional, and gives us faith for the future. Through Hebrews 11:5–6, we see that “without faith it is impossible to please Him,” as we believe that God exists and diligently seek Him. Pastor Ben also highlighted that walking with God means agreeing with His direction, as Amos 3:3 asks, “Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?” Enoch’s walk with God ultimately gave him faith for the future, pointing to the coming of the Lord. This message encourages us to walk closely with God, follow His direction, and trust Him for what lies ahead.

    ✍️ Notes
Title: The Walk of Faith – Ben Johnson

By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.  Hebrews 11:5–6 (NKJV)

Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah. After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years and had sons and daughters. So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. Genesis 5:21-24 (NKJV)

WALKING WITH GOD IS RELATIONAL “Enoch walked faithfully with God.” Genesis 5:24 (NIV)

WALKING WITH GOD IS DIRECTIONAL “…anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”  Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction? Amos 3:3 (NLT)

WALKING WITH GOD GIVES US FAITH FOR THE FUTURE “He said, “Listen! The Lord is coming with countless thousands of his holy ones.” Jude 14 (NIV)

Enoch, who lived in the seventh generation after Adam, prophesied about these people. He said, “Listen! The Lord is coming with countless thousands of his holy ones to execute judgment on the people of the world. He will convict every person of all the ungodly things they have done and for all the insults that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”  Jude 14-15 (NLT)
