Listeners, is it perhaps the case that you ain't happy? And in fact, you're feeling sad? We talk Blur, the convoluted lore of these cartoon musicians, their own eras, eclectic music tastes, and more!

We discuss Pixar's crowning achievement, WALL-E! It's about a little robot with big dreams, big robots with little empathy, and future space-baby people. We analyze the secret sauce that makes this movie so good: character designs, musicals, Real Human Being Fred Willard, and much more!
PLUS in this week's animation news, a special ad sponsor (not for us -- not yet!), a bizarre upcoming movie, and an, uhhh, *impassioned* plea for anime from one cartoon fan in Texas.

It's Brooke's birthday, so she gets to pick the movie! She summons up a forgotten mainstay from the VHS players of a bygone era, Don Bluth's Thumbelina. We confront our dubious memories of this childhood favorite, investigate the fascinatin history of the man who would be the Anti-Disney, and consider if, by some strange twist of fate, this movie is actually "good." What does "good" mean in this context? You'll have to listen and find out!

Marley was dead to begin with. Dead as a doornail. But Nation of Animation is alive and well this holiday season, and we're bringing you a happy haunting with three, count' em, THREE animated adaptations of Charles Dickens' timeless anti-capitalist classic, A Christmas Carol! We check in with our good friend Richard Williams, stop by the House of Mouse for Scrooge McDuck's opus, and then deal with the unfortunate Mr. Zemeckis' ill-fated Jim Carey-led boondoggle.
All this and a cooked goose, the biggest one they had!

Nation of Animation Presents:
Steamboat Willie, the iconic cartoon that launched Disney’s empire, has entered the public domain. He’s also been MURDERED! Ryan and Brooke, lifelong cartoon fans with unfulfilling day jobs, take it upon themselves to solve this unsolvable case of mouseslaughter – and their investigation will take them into a sordid, strange world of two-dimensional two-timing, cartoonish corruption, and monochrome mystery. They’ll encounter public domain figures with a potential axe to grind with Steamboat Willie, from Captain Pete to Tigger to the mythical Hercules himself. What happens to a character when they enter the public domain? What does it mean to be an intellectual property? And how could any of this be worth killing someone over? The answers may shake Ryan and Brooke’s faith in cartoons, authorship, and the public domain itself.
The Murder of Steamboat Willie is a Nation of Animation production, and is not produced, endorsed, licensed, or approved by the Walt Disney Corporation. All established characters depicted therein are in the public domain.

Learn more about Urvashi Lele's...Sat, 30 Apr 2022 - 34 - Nation of Animation Presents: UNDER THE NEIGHBORHOOD
What is this, a crossover episode? Nation of Animation and Blank City, Nowhere have finally, inevitably, joined up to bridge the worlds of tabletop games and animation appreciation! We’re playing the new game Under The Neighborhood by Kyle Decker, which takes inspiration from modern series like Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, and Amphibia among others to tell stories about youth in a wonderfully weird world full of mystery, danger, and thrilling adventures!
Welcome to Camp NeverSleep, where the Human world sits side-by-side with a mysterious plant world, and all manner of strangeness lurks in the woods surrounding the camp. Our four intrepid campers are looking forward to a wild, bizarre summer, and today, a special summons to help the plant people of the Blooman kingdom will send them hurtling deeper into the strangeness than ever before.
