  • 328 - Tom Davis: “I Was Sh!t At Everything!” – Scaffolding To Stand-Up & The Reluctant Vampire | EP. 424

On this week’s episode of the Peter Crouch Podcast, Pete, Sids, and Chris are joined by comedian Tom Davis for a proper chat about football, comedy, West Ham and his new show, The Reluctant Vampire. Tom talks about his journey from working on building sites to becoming a successful comedian, actor and writer, including the moment Mickey Flanagan convinced him to give stand-up a go and what it was really like getting on stage for the first time at 32.

The lads also get stuck into Tom’s brilliant Murder in Successville, hearing about the chaos of improvising with celebrities and footballers, as well as the very different realities of being funny on a podcast and actually standing in front of a room full of people waiting for you to make them laugh.

Football is never far away, with Tom opening up about his love for West Ham, his memories of Upton Park and why he feels the club has lost some of its identity. We chat about the changing relationship between clubs and supporters, the impact of social media, working-class fans, Declan Rice, Mark Noble and Jarrod Bowen, and whether West Ham can bounce straight back to the Premier League.

And finally, it’s time for Chris Stark’s Paddy Power forfeit. After losing the podcast’s score prediction league, Chris has to perform stand-up for the first time ever — at a proper comedy club, in front of hundreds of people, with Andrew Mensch and the lads helping him prepare. There are nerves, emergency jokes, an outrageous ring walk, a very personal check-up story…

As the Crouchy puts it: “that takes some bollocks or a bollock.”

  • 327 - “It Will Come Good!” Will Spurs Turn It Around? & Why Arsenal Win The League By 15 Points! | EP. 423

On this week’s episode of the Peter Crouch Podcast, Pete, Sids, and Chris are back with another chaotic round-up of football, forfeits, predictions and some genuinely bizarre stories from the weekend.

The lads kick things off by finally revealing more about Chris’ comedy club forfeit, including the nerves before he took to the stage and the incredible reaction from an unsuspecting fan who realised exactly why Chris was there. The conversation then takes an unexpected turn as the boys discuss the strange habit of giving fake names when ordering coffee — with one particular Brazilian footballer-themed idea quickly becoming a potential global game.

We also get into the weekend’s football, including Arsenal’s impressive win over Chelsea and whether they could really run away with the Premier League. The lads debate Arsenal’s mentality, their defensive strength and the impact of their new signings, before discussing the controversial incident involving Morgan Rogers and Declan Rice.

Elsewhere, Jamie Vardy’s move to Burnley gets a mention, the boys react to Alex Gilbert’s brilliant Inbetweeners-inspired announcement video, and there’s plenty of love for Hull Marina — perhaps the next great summer destination?!

The boys also debate whether Spurs can finally turn things around, before reading some brilliant Why The Football Not? submissions, including one fan who watched his team win promotion from a tree and another who travelled from Dublin to Liverpool on a free ticket with no money, hotel or plan.

And then things take a very unexpected turn when Pete’s podiatrist arrives mid-recording to deal with his troublesome footballer’s toenails. The lads investigate Pete’s bizarre feet, discuss whether they’re a footballer thing, and somehow turn the whole situation into one of the strangest moments of the episode.

Another week, another set of disasters. Enjoy!

  • 326 - Stuart Pearce: How PSYCHO Went From Electrician to England Legend & Brian Clough Stories! | EP. 422

On this week’s episode of the Peter Crouch Podcast, Pete, Sids and Chris are joined by England, Nottingham Forest and Manchester City legend Stuart Pearce — aka Psycho — for a proper trip down memory lane.

Stuart opens up about his remarkable journey from playing non-league football and working as an electrician to becoming a professional footballer, England international and one of the most recognisable defenders of his generation. He tells the story of how a chance encounter with Brian Clough eventually led to his move to Nottingham Forest, and how the famous “Psycho” nickname came about.

The lads also get into Stuart’s England career, including the highs and lows of Italia ’90 and Euro ’96, his infamous penalty miss against Germany, and the emotional redemption of scoring from the spot against Spain six years later. Stuart explains why the experience of missing that penalty stayed with him — and how it ultimately changed the way he approached pressure, failure and success.

Away from football, there are some brilliant Stuart Pearce stories too, from his love of punk music and a particularly surreal night at a gig in Moscow, to travelling to North Korea and his obsession with seeing as much of the world as possible.

And, of course, there’s plenty of classic Crouch Podcast chat along the way — including hedge diving, football stickers, Stuart’s legendary toughness and some seriously good dressing-room and Cloughy stories.

A fascinating conversation with one of English football’s great characters.

  • 325 - The Zante Goalkeeper Calls Out Crouchy, Opening Day Mauling & The £2.5m Maradona Ball... | EP. 421

On this week’s episode of the Peter Crouch Podcast, Pete, Sids and Chris are back talking all things GW1 as the Premier League gets properly underway. Pete kicks things off by summarising his attendance at the Spurs v Brentford game, before the lads get sidetracked by the now-infamous Zante goalkeeper — who has apparently heard about the podcast and has sent a rather aggressive message Pete’s way! Naturally, the boys decide there’s only one thing to do… head to Zante and take him on themselves.

The lads then get into the opening weekend of the Premier League, including the strange situation around Ollie Watkins at Aston Villa, with Sids sharing his own experience of knowing he was leaving Reading for Chelsea but continuing to play and train as normal. The conversation turns to whether players should ever take themselves out of the firing line when a transfer is on the cards, and how much physicality, hunger and desire now matter in the Premier League.

Chris then tackles his own disastrous comedy attempts ahead of his forfeit, some questionable listener jokes, and the increasingly surreal experience of being recognised in public — including a very awkward airport encounter.

Elsewhere, the lads debate who has the strangest pre-match traditions, discuss Peter’s latest Paddy Power advert, and wonder which piece of football memorabilia could possibly beat Maradona’s ‘Hand of God’ ball.

  • 324 - VIRAL TikTok Singer Plays That Djed Spence Song, Season Begins & Community Shield DISMAY?! | EP. 420

On this week’s episode of That Peter Crouch Podcast, Pete, Sids, and Chris express their absolute dismay towards the Community Shield’s double booking, and ask whether Manchester City’s 3-0 defeat to Arsenal is anything to worry about for Pep’s replacement Enzo Maresca.

The Gunners’ strong start has the lads wondering if they could run away with a consecutive Premier League title, and we also get into the Championship - with Millwall backed to make a serious push for the playoffs and plenty of love for the players expected to light up the season.

Sids signs off from the Maldives before the lads are joined by singer-songwriter Ben Cipolla, whose football-inspired songs have taken social media by storm. Ben explains how a joke about Brighton’s Deniz Undav turned into a growing catalogue of football songs, before revealing how his Djed Spence song exploded after an appearance on 606. He also talks about becoming a full-time musician, his ambitions to take the football songs even further, and Chris reveals his dream of Ben reaching the Christmas Number One spot.

And if that wasn’t enough, Ben brings along some homemade dips from his mate Paddy (in classic random pod fashion), performs his brilliant football songs live in the studio, and then unveils an EXCLUSIVE new song written especially for the podcast – ‘Back Stronger’.
