Paradise Lost — An Investigation

Paradise Lost — An Investigation

S. Ashen

A progressive investigation of John Milton’s Paradise Lost. Starting from the text itself, each episode follows the questions it raises about evil, free will, rebellion, power, guilt and identity. Milton’s characters are examined through literature, philosophy, theology and psychology. Not a summary, but an evolving reading in which interpretations can change as the poem unfolds.

In this first episode of Paradise Lost — An Investigation, we begin with Book I and a deceptively simple question: if God created everything, where does evil come from?

Starting from Milton’s opening lines, the episode follows a progressive investigation into free will, the Fall, Eve, Satan, rebellion and responsibility. Rather than treating Paradise Lost as a story with fixed answers, the reading develops through questions: if freedom makes disobedience possible, is freedom part of the solution — or part of the problem?

This is not a summary of the poem. It is an evolving interpretation, grounded in Milton’s text and open to revision as the reading continues.
