The term Local's Summer has been increasing in popularity as of late. If you don't know, it's that time in San Diego after Labor Day when all the tourist have gone back home and the beaches once again belong to the locals. Kilowatt Brewing has crafted a very San Diego Hazy IPA along that theme!

There is no shortage of atmosphere at Kilowatt Brewing, from the lighting to the beer, there is a vibe that fits the space and today's beer is a pefect reflection of of that vibe. Kon-Tiki is a beer in thier sour series that was inspired by the tiki culture and cocktails. It's big on flavor and low on ABV.

There's a whole bunch behind the doors at Kilowatt Brewing Kearny Mesa, including a speak easy! While we're not drinking cocktails today, instead a beverage that finds itself into numerous cocktails in the Forbidden Cove.

It's been another trip around the sun for the crew from Kilowatt Brewing! This weekend they celebrate thier 11th Anniversary at their Kearny Mesa tasting room. Before we get into talking about what's on deck this weekend, we top the top a perfect beer for this unrelenting heat! San Diego Dream XPA.

If you're Stone Brewing making a 30th anniversary IPA could be a daunting task. However in true OG Stone fashion the brewers threw all the hops at it! Paying tribute to 30 years of making IPAs this 30th Anniversary Double IPA showcases three phases of hops that demonstrate how IPAs have changed over the last three decades.

This year Stone Brewing rolled out a new seasonal program to highlight some of the innovative beers that's coming out of the brewhouse in Liberty Station. Today Lizzy from Stone brings the latest in that seriese; Chill Villain IPA. She also pulls back the curtian on what hops and yeast make this beer very special.

Today is a walk down memory lane! Stone dipping into it's rich heritage of being very avant guarde with their beers over the last 30 years has resurrected a beer that really effected my beer journey. Lizzy from Stone Brewing pops the top on a draft only exclusive of Stone Cali-Belgique IPA.

It was huge breaking news last week, Stone Brewing and Pierce the Veil teamed up to make a special beer for their biggest hometown show today! Vic from PTV being a huge fan of Stone IPA and Delicious IPA got to jam to two concepts together with brewer Kris Ketcham to create Pierce The Veil IPA. Lizzy from Stone drops in to share this amazing San Diego brew!

James from Coronado Brewing mentioned this beer earlier in the week and today he brought it as a little bonus beer. He gives us the story on Danger Zone and why you'll want to look for it on tap at CBC next time you drop in.

When a brewery that is as hop forward as Coronado Brewing it's only proper to throw as much as you can at a beer to celebrate 30 years of excellence. 30 Year Vibes takes the already very succesful Weekend Vibes and gives it a Triple Dry Hop to just drive home all that hop flavor!

Brendan and James from Coronado Brewing keep digging up classics, another I forgot about they brought today! Guava Islander! Take everything we had from Islander and throw a subtle but not overpowering amount of guava in it. The combination of everything makes this beer dangerous enough to sip until you forget what day it is!

Tonight's beer was a true pioneer of what is now the San Diego IPA. Before Islander IPA malt bills were darker and hops were more bitter. CBC brewer James explains what makes Islander so special in the history of San Diego beers.

This is one of those beers that defines "cult classic," Coronado Brewing's Mermaid Red was one of their first and most beloved of core beers back when the brewery opened 30 years ago. Now it only come out for special occations, like tonight.

Anniversary beers with the CBC! Coronado Brewing is throwing it back for their 30th year! They are bringing back some of thier most beloved cult favorite and we're gonna get the inside scoop on all of it. All week Mo from Deft Brewing has been going easy on us with the ABV, well he just cranked it up to 11 with his DeftCon 4 Belgian Quad but he does it in Deft style...a ton of flavor and still very clean and dry on the back end.

Being in San Diego there is a understanding that IPA's a must have in the tap room, but when you focus on more old world style beers how do you satisfy that craving? The answer is. in the most Deft way possible as Mo from Deft Brewing gives us a little of something old with a little of something San Diego with Deft Hop Golden.

It's like Mo from Deft Brewing had a Machiavellian plan when I mentioned this beer on Tuesday. He knew, what he was doing when he brought MacDeft Scottish Eport today.

This week promises a beer tour around Europe as Mo from Deft Brewing drops in to showcase their beers. One of my personal favorite spots because of their selection of old world beers Mo starts out with something perfect for when it's hot out, Deft Poets Society Czech Style Pilsner.

Always willing to colab, Jim from Home Brew Mart partnered with a local muscian for this IPA named after his self released album "Tombstone & Travel Plans." We get the inside of how this beer comes together and what hop has been the glue that's held all the hoppy beers we've enjoyed all week together.

Home brewers know how hard it is to make good clean beer in the summertime when you don't have expensive temperature control systems. Jim from Home Brew Mart has the answer to making clean beer when it's 90+ in East County, a yeast strain called Kviek. He explains how it works with this beer called Summer of 89.

TWO BEERS for a Friday. Never the Master Triple Dry Hopped Hazy and Always the Student Double Dry Hopped West Coast IPA, two beers that share the same hops but do not share the same drinking experience. Kelsey from North Park Beer Co breaks down what makes these two similar beers, so different.

Kelsey from NPBC brings Dr. Greenthumb to a whole new level with this Triple Dry Hopped West Coast IPA called Dank Material. A beer this light in body and that has a hop list as long as it does should not be this drinkable. Dank Material hits with big hop flavor and Kelsey has an awesome pairing idea from the kitchen.

Taking it's name from the Free Style Hop Farm in New Zealand this is the first beer Kelsey from North Park Brewing Co makes when he get his hop shipment from the grower in June. It is truly a goulash of all the huge hops that come from the Land Down Under. Free Stylin' Triple Dry Hopped Hazy IPA is a beer that might not be a beer but fermented hop juice!

No doubt with as many awards as this beer has won it is the flagship for North Park Beer Co. But there is a secret to the success of Hop Fu that Kelsey over a pint!

I Love It When You Call Me Big Poppa is a IPA that has no right being as huge and flavorful as it is. Get this one this weekend while it's on tap because Kyndall may never let him brew this beer again!

Leave it to Weir beer to meme on Sponge Bob for thier first anniversary. A beer that was only suppose to be for that party has become a regular tap room favorite, He Was #1 Pale Ale is another one of those beers that straddles the line between what is a IPA, Pale Ale, and a West Coast IPA.

In the celebration of pickles that will take place at Weir Beer this weekend, today's beer was an unexpected surprise! After the delicious pIckle bomb that was Tommy Pickles Hard Seltzer, Mr. Big Dill Pickle Lager uses that same Wier magic to deliever a crushable and easy drinking beer that still holds all the flavor and essence of that briney superstar.

It's the reason for the party this weekend at Weir Beer! Tommy Pickles Hard Seltzer was the cataylist for last years pickle party. Light, bubby and more on the cucumber/dill end of pickle goodness. This is the kinda of beverage that becomes an unexpected favorite and if you're a reall monster Weir offers it with a shot of pickle brine to either add to your beverage or just shoot.

Over the last few months AleSmith has been playing around with their Party Tricks IPA, like one of the more recent Imperial variations. Now here for the summer time, HAZY Party Tricks IPA. Same easy drinkability you find in that glowing yellow can of Party Tricks, but in a hazy form. But unlike Party Tricks, Hazy Party you can only get from the AleSmith tasting room.

Hard to beat perfectly rip stone fruit in the summertime, combine that with a light American Lager and you've really got magic! That's exactly what AleSmith Sun Path taste like, the best parts of summer. Light peach flavor married with an easy drinking Lager makes this an ideal beer for the 4th of July, a BBQ or the San Diego County Fair!

Kristen from AleSmith is in this week to show off what they've been up to at 9990 AleSmith Court! We start things off with a twist on a recent brewery trend, Hop Water. This version of Hop Water has a twist, vodka. Hoptails Vokda Hop Water is huge on flavor and low AVB at 5% and is a perfect refresher in the Summer heat.

He saved the IPA for a Friday, Erik from Good Pressure is ending the week with their Good Pressure IPA. A blend of old school and new school San Diego IPAs. Plus, he's got a secret hop that he's using, curious what it is?

A coffee brown for Summer? Absolutely! Erik from Good Pressure likes to make flavorful beers that you can enjoy a few of, Pressure Profile takes all the notes of a malty coffee porter and folds it into a light drinkable brown ale which makes it favor another famous San Diego Beer.

With our proximity to Mexico, it's always nice to have a light malty beer on tap. Good with tacos or good after a hike along Mission Trails Good Pressure Amber is a perfect beer if you want some thing light and freshing that not just a fizzy yellow beer.

Six months ago I thought Erik was crazy for telling me that if Good Pressure only made one beer their Blonde would be it. But once I tried it, I understand why he made that claim.

At the start of 2026 I put them at the top of my new breweries to watch for the year! Now we check in as see what cooking for the summer at Good Pressure Brewing. Eric and Nelson drop by on a warm Monday afternoon with an example of how they are brewing up a little something for everyone with a Strawberry Lemonade Hard Seltzer.

Its almost a Greek tragedy that this beer isn't an year round offering at Duck Foot Brewing. But when It's around I drink my fair share! Just in time for the 11th Anniversary tomorrow we wrap up a week of beers with Brett and Matt with the Crossing Wizard IPA. Brett also tells the story that this beer has a real life San Diegan as inspiration.

Don't let the dark fool you in this beer! It's getting warm out and darker beers can be just as refreshing as a fizzy yellow lager. Duck Foot Brewing proves that point with their Darkwing Dunkel.

You don't think that all those Belgian monks are making beer just to support their monasteries, do you? With all that fantastic beer floating around some of it makes it's way to the lunch table. But since it's hard to focus on prayer and highly unsafe to brew while consuming a 12% ABV beer, the monks created a Belgian Table beer. Friar Duck give you all the fruity and clove flavors you'd expect from a larger Belgian beer but all wrapped up in non-day-wrecking 4%.

Why ask why? Drink Duck Dry! Matt and Bret from Duck Foot Brewing are back with another anytime summer beer, Duck Dry. Their Japanese style Rice Lager is crisp clean with a light floral note thanks to the rice. It's hard to hide any imperfections in a beer like this, lucky for us this beer is flawless.

Warm days of summer are already starting to pop on even on June 1st! Perfect weather for a Lemon Radler from Duck Foot Brewing! Low abv with a ton of lemon with a small hint of lime, this is the perfect kind of beer that will keep you hydrated while partying at the Duck Foot 11th Anniversary THIS WEEKEND!

Not very often do we end our week with a Mexican style lager, but in the case of Barley & Sword it's very fitting! Launching into our weekend with a beer inspired by The Father of Mexican Lager Santiago Graf. Hilighting it's Vienna lager roots this beer really hits home when you get that hint of corn and a subtle salinity? Mike explains why!

Named after an old English tavern, Ye Olde Man & Scythe is ever bit of what you would expect from an English Porter that you'd get pumped up from the cellar of your local pub. 4.6% ABV and still balanced and approachable. This is a perfect shifty or if you just want to chew the fat at the bar.

It is an insanely hard task to make an Irish Red as clean and easy drinking as Barley & Sword's Beoir Bearg. The only thing harder might be trying to pronounce the beer's name without the pronunciation guide printed on the can. Mike and I discuss what makes this beer a labor of love that pays off in drinkablity and flavor.

Mike from Barley & Sword brings today what I think maybe the most acurate West Coast brewing of a traditional Weissbier and he has the medals to back it up. Bier Von Bayern is a traditional unfiltered Bavarian Hefewetzen that doesn't smash you in the face with one flavor but delievers on hints of banana, apricot and clove in a easy drinking, well balanced wheat beer.

This is going to be an educational week for anyone who is interested in beer history and traditional beer styles. Mike from Barley & Sword has made a study and profession out of brewing old world style of beers and unsurprisingly it's found it's audience in San Diego. We start with a beer that would have ruled the West during the time of the Gold Rush, the California Common or has he calls it Sawmill Steam.

The McIlhenney 5th Anniversary is offically underway! To kick off the party Shawn and Jamie have brough the party, in a can! Their staple double IPA Wild Child is a easy drinking hoppy IPA that goes down a little too smooth to be such a high ABV.

Its smelling pretty dank in here! Shawn and Jamie McIlhenney have brought their latest Nectaron Express West Coast IPA. A West Coast style IPA that blends both flavorful Nectaron hop with Pineapple Express terpines from Abstracts. That's right, the same strain you'd find at your favorite despensary has had the THC stripped out of it leaving only the flavor that's infused into the beer. Not surprisingly for a McIlhenney beer it's not like hot boxing your best friends Civic but a well balanced drinking experience.

It's been a desert island beer for me since they first started making it 5 years a go! McIlhenney's Muntz New Zealand Rye is a hazy looking beer that it all craft and no hype. It's murky appearance is 100% derived from the insane amount of Nectaron and Nelson Sauvin hops infused in this easy drinking Rye IPA. It also pairs really well with bread and butter pickles and BBQ sauce if you find yourself in Flinn Springs.

The Pinberries taste like Pineberries! A recent addition to the McIlhenney line-up and a new favorite in the tasting room. Pineberry West Coast IPA is an intensly pine-forward beer that almost does a 180 on your palate with a berry-like finish. It's truly a beer that will wear your elbow out as you'll want to experience that flip over and over again.

Memorial Weekend is upon us and that means it's time for a McIlhenney Brewing Anniversary! Year 5 bring all the festivities you'd expect from our East County friends like a easy drinking triple IPA, but before that gets underway on Friday we've got a few other beers to enjoy like Jamie's external favorite, Brite Light Helles. She and Shawn explains what makes this beer so special.

We wrap up the week with Culture Brewing and a truly one of a kind collab with Coastal Roots Farm in Encinitas. A Spring seasonal beer that features handpicked elderflower from Coastal Roots creating a fruity and floral IPA. Best part, a portion of the proceeds from each beer goes to support Coast Roots efforts.

Taking a break from the hops for a truly South of the border inspired beverage. Jason and Larry from Culture Brewing show off their Hispanic flare with La Cerveza Mexican stytle lager.

A hazy Wednesday needs a hazy beer and Jason and Larry from Culture Brewing brough Coastal Haze! A hazy not like some of the other tropical bombs out there, there is something distinctly more dank about this beer and it just might be because of current head brewer Jasons' past.

You might have heard the phrase "a little bit country and a little bit rock & roll." Today's beer follows that being a little bit old school and a little bit new school. Culture Brewing's Mosaic IPA has all that upfront flora aroma you'd expect with a beer with Mosaic hops but also hides a subtle bitterness that dries the beer up on the backend like an OG West Coast IPA.

There has been a lot brewing at Culture and it's more then just the beer! It's been forever since we've had anyone from the brewrey swing by and we're fixing that this week as Jason and Larry drop by all week to talk about what's happening in their tasting rooms and their brew house. We start light and crisp with their interperation of a Blonde ale called Solana Blonde.

Closing the week with Chris and Ryan from SouthNorte with a drink that has become more and more popular as more premium tequilas hit the market. With tequila, lime and grapefruit soda the Paloma is a refreshing and less sweet alternative to a margarita. IMO it's a perfect way to kick off a weekend with your friends.

Chris and Ryan from SouthNorte might have brought my new favorite go-to spirit and soda beverage. After the introduction of the Hibiscus Lime yestrday, today's Tequila Soda with Orange has no right being this good! Subtle tequila flavor with a hint of orange essence that it's more akin to expressing orange peel over an old Fashioned then drinking tequila and orange juice and that's just the way I like it!

With a warm weekend on the horizon Chris and Ryan from SouthNorte brought the ultimate refreshing cocktail a Hibiscus Lime Tequila soda. If a vodka soda is your go to this is a beverage you need to try, like a carbonated glass of agua de Jamaica with a suble hint of tequila...this might just become you new summertime cocktail.

It's Cinco De Mayo! Time to celebrate with a drink that draws its origins back to Ensenada Mexico! Ryan from SouthNorte who once lived there bring all the inspirations of a freshsly made South of the border margarita to a can near you!

It's Cinco De Mayo week! That means we're going to explore some of the locally made RTD cocktials with a South of the border flair. SouthNorte joins us all week to show off their popular line of beverages. We start with the Matador, big on pineapple flavor with a surprising lack of boozyness given the 7% AVB.

Our final pepper beer of the week, designed not be punishing but almost like a desert. Nickel Beer Co's Serrano Stout features both roasted and raw Serrano peppers aged in a bourbon barrel. Dark complex with a subtle pepper flavor and almost no heat, this is the kind of beer you want to let warm up just a little to experince all the flavors it has to offer.

This is gonna be the one that hurts! Tom alluded all week that there was going to be one beer that would light me up and today he's brought Nickel Beer Co's Death Tongue IPA. Made from locally grown Devi's Tongue peppers, this IPA is very curious because it drinks very much like what you would expect from an IPA and then you get hit with the heat. It's a wild ride that will have you coming back for sip after sip after sip.

Not a San Diego beer, but a former San Diego brewer and now medal winner, 603 Where There Is Smoke There Is Fire is Tom's atempt to get me to enjoy a pepper AND smoke beer. I'm notoriously not a fan of smoked any beer, we'll see if this beer and some O'Brien's wings can sway my opinion.

It was a beer we had last year, but this year it has some gold hanging around it. As Tom Nickel continutes to torture me with pepper beers, he's brought OB Brewery's Couples Therapy. An odd duck at first glance being a Belgian Saison with roasted and green jalapeno peppers but once you taste it, you understand it's subtle complexity and how amazing it goes with food....like Fish Tacos from O'Brien's .

What first started as a way to tortue me, I've come to look forward to the time around Cino De Mayo and Tom Nickel's Pepper Beer Challenge. All week Tom tries to burn out my tast buds with a variety of pepper beers from around San Diego. We start light with a cult classic from Nicke Beer Company, Jalapeno Gold.

An 11% ABV stout has no right to be this smooth but as Tomme Arthur from The Lost Abbey puts it, they release the beer when it's ready and it's guaranteed to only get better as it ages. As we wrap up our Friday, we pour out one more beer, the deceptivly dangerous Serpent's Stout.

It's a beer that's almost as old as The Lost Abbey and as Tomme Arthur proves it's a style that stands the test of time. Carnevale Brett Saison is a Spring seasonal offering from the soon to be 20 year old brewery that is as good now as it will be years from now.

In true Tomme Arthur style we've skipped IPA and went right to Double IPA. Moral Codes takes Tomme's 30 years of brewing experience and 20 years of running The Lost Abbey and put it into liquid form. Strong, hoppy, with a gentle kiss of malt.

While San Diego is a hop driven city, it can't always be super floral and tropical...sometime you just need an easy drinking light beer. For the Lost Abbey, Noble Tendencies wasn't even a beer on the board in the tap room, it was a beer on tap for the brewer's to have a shifty. But good beers never stay hidden for long and soon it became a must-have tap room offering. One sip and you'll know why.

Another San Diego Brewery celebrating a landmark anniversary, The Lost Abbey turns 20 with a big party on May 9th! All this week we catch up with the man who's direction and vision has helmed the project from the start, Mr. Tomme Arthur. Our first beer an Italian Style Pilsner called Mopeds in Milan. Why that name? Tomme has a great story about that.

This beer should come with a warning label. Bay City's Jucci Gang Hazy Double IPA is a very deceptive drink because up front it's jucy and tropical with hints of candied oranges that drinks super smooth. Then you try and stand up after downing a pint only to realized that this beer is hiding 8.5% ABV among all that haze.

Sour beers can be an aquired taste and a little daunting for someone getting into craft beer. Where a lot of sour beers focus on the acidity, Bay City takes a different approach and hones in on the fruit for a more balaced sip. Ziggy Sourdust Passion Fruit Sour is a beer that has been in the tasting room for a while, it's now making its way into cans around San Diego just in time for Spring!

When you want an IPA that somewhere between an Non-Alcoholic version and the standard 6% faire, Bay City has you covered! Getaway Day IPA is a 3% ABV beer that deleivers on all the taste, aromas and expectations you have for a standard San Diego IPA but with half the alcohol.

Austin and Rob from Bay City Brewing brought a treat to wrap up a Tuesday! A beer that has been around but is now been dialed in and canned up, Peninsula Lager is an Amber Lager that pays homage to our neighbours to the South. Smooth, roasty and easy drinking this beer belongs next to tacos and some San Diego sunshine.

Baseball season is back and Bay City Brewing has one of the top spots in East Village to be at before a game! All week Austin and Rob stop in to talk about what fantastic liquid they'll be serving at the Faithfull prepare for another winning year. We start with a beer that for the first time ever is being poured at games, Fiesta Island Pilsner.

It's finally Friday and time for the beer that Mel and Tori promised at the beginning of the week! Last week they launched thier Rebelution Colab Courage to Grow IPA with a secret parking lot show with the band. In addtiton to the colaborative effort with the band; what makes this beer special is the usage of all organic hops along with it benifiting organic farmers.

Perfect for the start of Spring Baseball or to cover up why you smell like you just hot-boxed your car. Burgeon Beer dips into the terpene beer world with Faithful Fade, a Double Dry Hopped Hazy IPA packed full of Mosaic, Krush, Simcoe and Pineapple Express Terpenes. Yep! It smells like your uncle Nick's 'secret stash' but is ohh soo drinkable.

Tori and Mel from Burgeon are back with a fresh twist on one of their brewer's favorite styles, the West Coast Pilsner. Named after brewer Anthony's Twin Fin obsession, Twin Fin West Coast Pilsner is thin and light easy drinking hoppy Pilsner that if incredibly deceptive when it comes to ABV.

Coming off some big wins during the SanDiegoBeer.News Awards and a big colab launch with Rebelution, Burgeon Beer has been crazy busy! This week Mel and Tori drop by to show off some of these beers they've been working on but first we get things started with ole' faithful, Carlsbad Crush Mosaic Pale Ale.

Save the biggest for last! Brendan from Coronado Brewing is back one last time with the biggest of the three beers in the Weekend Seriese. Big Weekend is a decietfully easy to drink Double IPA that as Brendan puts it is "very efficient" at almost 9% AVB. Release the weekend!

But don't worry, there's no notes of maple syurp in this beer, it's a true mango fruit bomb that will have you coming back, again and again and again.

This is the crown jewel of the week! The latest addition to the Coronado Brewing Weekend Seriese, Hazy Weekend Hazy IPA. This Hazy monster is chalked full of Pineapple Express Terps (no THC) to give it a very distinct aroma and flavor. If you didn't think weed and hops were cousins before this beer? You'll know after you drink it!

Same long standing San Diego OC beer, but with a new look! Brendan from Coronado Brewing brought an old classic, Orange Ave a wheat beer that backs big notes of Orange and honey at a very drinky 5.2% ABV. The big twist comes in the new packaging that makes the beer jump off the shelf as much as the flavor does.

I've been trying to nail Brendan from Coronado Brewing down since the launch of their latest edition to the Weekend Seriese. This week he finally drops by the show to talk about Hazy Weekend, but before we get there we need to set a baseline for where the Weekend Seriese started, Weekend Vibes Hazy IPA. A San Diego style IPA packed with Mosaic, Citra and Simcoe held up by a light bodied beer makes this 6.8% AVB an easy all weekend crushing choice.
