The Uncharted Sounds Podcast

The Uncharted Sounds Podcast

Martin Bull & Noel Dinneen

Welcome to the Uncharted Sounds Podcast. Formerly known as The Uncharted 80’s Podcast, we’ve expanded our horizons to bring you even more of the music you love. With a fresh name comes fresh flexibility while we’ll still dive deep into the hidden gems of the 80s, we’re now exploring uncharted sounds from the 70s, 90s, and beyond. the format stays the same as we deliver informative and hopefully captivating band biographies and exclusive interviews with the artists who shaped these decades of music that were often under the radar and may have been forgotten by some. What they have in common in our view, is that their stories or their music has been uncharted. They may have left a lasting impact on some of us and it's time to celebrate them. Get ready to uncover their history, sounds, information, what we think and untold stories. We will talk to those that were involved and the impact they had on us and still do! Same passion for music, broader horizons.

  • 42 - Compilation Episode #1 - "Brushes With Greatness"

In this episode we have a summer treat for you and something a bit different. We've had many requests to share some of the stories across our episodes and we have now had the time to do that, This episode entitled "Brushes With Greatness" is the first of a few episodes that bring to life some of those stories that have had a theme and this one is where our bands have "brushed" against artists that were much more well known and in some cases legendary. We have hand chosen a number of clips from The Skids, B-Movie, The Chords, TV21, Roger Bechirian and Screen 3. Also watch out for our 3rd episode in our trilogy of episodes from bands in the Norfolk scene coming in the Autumn of this year.

As always we would love your feedback on these types of episodes. The summer has given us the opportunity to pull these together as a special series of episodes and we would love to know what you think.

  • 41 - Hue And Cry - Episode #41 - Interview with Pat & Greg Kane

This episode features the brilliant Hue and Cry who for are a Scottish pop duo formed in 1983 in Coatbridge by the brothers Pat Kane and Greg Kane. The duo are best known for their 1987 single "Labour of Love" which spent 16 weeks on the UK chart.

They mix soul, jazz, politics and sophisticated pop quite like Hue and arrived during an era dominated by polished pop and indie guitar music — yet somehow carved out a sound that blended Marvin Gaye-style soul, jazz improvisation, working-class politics and sophisticated songwriting.

many of our listeners may know them for “Labour of Love”, but the real story is far richer: jazz collaborations with world-class musicians, political activism, adventurous albums that confused record labels, and a fiercely loyal live audience that has stayed with them for more than four decades.

They have recently released their new album Everybody and this episode covers their whole career right up to and including their new album. Their website is on the link below:-

In this episode we feature a short bio of the band as usual and a chat with Henry Dartnall who is the vocalist and guitarist and songwriter in the band. He has some terrific stories and the fact they are still around today to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album is testament to their longevity and ability to survive in the Music Industry.
