For many of us, annual leave is the highlight of our year - the chance to get away from our normal lives and escape to somewhere new and exciting.
Ash Bhardwaj has managed to make getting away his career. As a travel writer, journalist, broadcaster and author, Ash has travelled all over the globe - as a backpacker, a soldier, on expedition, as part of newspaper commissions and for TV shows. Thu, 02 May 2024 - 46min - 21 - Self-Belief, Leadership and Life After ‘CEO’ - Rob Pierre
Until recently, Rob Pierre was CEO of Jellyfish, the major digital media agency he co-founded over 18 years ago - a role which made him one of the UK’s most successful media leaders. In 2021 he was voted Media Week's Media Leader of the Year to recognise his achievements.
Now, having stepped down, we reflect on life without the CEO title, leadership, confidence and his tool for avoiding self doubt.
If you’ve listened to Tiger Therapy before, you’ll know that at the end of each episode, I ask guests to nominate something they think is brilliant to come on the podcast. Joanna Flint, Chief Commercial Officer at Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, suggested Rob. Here’s what she said about him:
“What I love about Rob is his storytelling, his authenticity and his belief. He’s a really interesting individual with a global perspective to talk about how to build an incredibly successful business through grit, determination, and being a really good man.”
We couldn’t agree more.
Thanks so much Rob for coming on Tiger Therapy - I loved our conversation!

Wed, 24 Apr 2024 - 46min - 20 - How Mentally Strong People Manage Self Doubt - Amy Morin
We're back for Season 3 of Tiger Therapy!!! I am beyond excited for the conversations and speakers we're bringing to you over the next few weeks.
______
How does a psychotherapist handle grief, anxiety and self doubt?
After a series of family tragedies, psychotherapist Amy Morin started studying what it is that makes someone mentally strong. She turned this research into blog post entitled ’13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do,’ which she expected only a handful of people would read.
Much to her surprise, it went viral (as in, 50 million people viral!)
This set Amy down the path of bestselling author and worldwide authority on mental strength. She's since sold over a million copies of her books, and they've been translated into 40 languages.
In this conversation Amy and I (naturally) discussed mental strength, and of course I wanted to get her expert psychotherapist take on self doubt, limiting beliefs, and her advice for all of us.
I found this conversation incredibly useful and Amy shared some brilliant tools to try - thank you so much Amy for coming on Tiger Therapy!

Wed, 17 Apr 2024 - 44min - 19 - How to Be Confident - Nellie Wartoft
Welcome to the last episode of Tiger Therapy Season 2!! (We'll be back mid April with S3).
Have you ever made your boss cry?
I can now add this to my list of (questionable) accomplishments…
Here is a very special BONUS episode of Tiger Therapy - featuring Tigerhall CEO Nellie Wartoft!
In this conversation we cover -
Actionable steps for finding intrinsic self confidence;Nellie’s analysis on what’s holding people back in life; Why self doubt is so prevalent and can be so damaging - and what needs to change; Nellie’s story of doing everything everyone told her NOT to do;Why our education leads to toxic workplaces; Being mistreated as a woman in tech (Nellie’s experience is not what you think)Why too many CEO’s have the wrong priorities; There’s also a brilliant pep talk from Nellie at the end, that I have a feeling I’ll be listening to on repeat; …And a whole lot more! Thanks so much Chief Tiger for letting me ask you all my nosy questions.
(Also, it’s usually me crying in front of you, so I’m glad to even out the scales a little.)

Thu, 04 Apr 2024 - 58min - 18 - “What Does a Successful White Guy in Tech Know About Self Doubt?” - Richard Harshman
A story about this episode - months ago, when I first explained the concept of Tiger Therapy to Tigerhall CEO Nellie Wartoft, almost the first thing out her mouth was “you have to speak to Rick Harshman.”
Originally from the US, Richard “Rick” Harshman has had a string of major leadership roles in tech across Asia Pacific and Japan. Most recently he was President and SVP at UiPath, prior to this, MD at Google Cloud and Head of ASEAN at Amazon Web Services (AWS).
What struck me about this, is I would never have picked someone with his profile for a conversation about self doubt. After all, surely a successful, white man in tech is the most confident breed of person on Earth? (Putting my hand up here to own my bias.)
Nellie knew something I didn’t - that Rick is incredibly reflective, self aware and has a very nuanced and considered attitude to self doubt.
We cover family, culture, burnout, imposter syndrome, leadership during Covid - and much more.
Thanks so much Rick for coming on Tiger Therapy. I loved our conversation!

Wed, 28 Feb 2024 - 37min - 17 - How “The Iceman” Conquers Limiting Beliefs and Techniques to Master Self Confidence - Wim Hof
If you’ve ever had an ice bath, then it’s probably because Wim Hof has turned them from something niche into a global phenomenon.
Not only does Wim regularly submerge himself in icy water, he ran an half marathon above the arctic circle barefoot, scaled Mount Everest in a pair of shorts, ran across the Namibian desert without any water. He in fact holds 26 world records - each sounding more superhuman than the last.
“Doing these things has earned me the nickname ‘the iceman’ but I am no superhero.” he says. “I am no genetic freak. I’m not a guru. I do not mention my accomplishments to boast, but as a reminder that there is so much more we are capable of.”
In this episode of Tiger Therapy, Wim explains how he is just as prone as anyone to self doubt and limiting beliefs, but he’s learned tools to master his body and his mind - tools that anyone can learn.
I LOVED this conversation with Wim - I found him so charming and full of life, and I was genuinely touched by how he really cares about helping people. Thank you so much Wim!

Wed, 21 Feb 2024 - 32min - 16 - Becoming a Master Networker, Entrepreneurship and Getting Over “Cringe” - Nick Gray
When Nick Gray first moved to New York City he went to a bunch of networking events, failed to make meaningful connections, and always left feeling like a loser.
Eventually realising he was not the problem - it was the events, he decided to start hosting his own. This led him to writing his book ‘The Two Hour Cocktail Party’, and now helps people around the world take networking into their own hands.
In this episode of Tiger Therapy, we discuss how to host the ultimate networking party, how to get past feeling “cringe” when promoting your brand on social media, and Nick’s entrepreneur journey - prior to The Two Hour Cocktail Party he built and sold 2 multi-million dollar companies, including Museum Hack, that was listed as one of Inc. 5000’s fastest growing companies in America.
Thanks Nick for coming on Tiger Therapy!

Wed, 14 Feb 2024 - 35min - 15 - Learning From Failure, Coping With Self Doubt and Psychological Safety at Work - Amy Edmondson
I don’t know about you, but whenever I’ve tried something new in life and it hasn’t gone well, the little voice inside my head that whispers “you’re not good enough” gets much louder.
Failure can be painful and can be an incredibly strong fuel to our self-doubt.
I am BEYOND excited to introduce this weeks Tiger Therapy episode with Amy Edmondson!!!
Amy Edmondson is very modest, so allow me to blow her trumpet for her - she is a ROCKSTAR in academic circles.
She is Professor of Leadership and Management at Harvard Business School, Thinkers50 #1 Ranked Thinker in the World and an award winning author.
'Psychological safety' - the term she coined in the 90’s is what truly put her name on the map. This term has become widely used in discussions about company culture and good leadership.
In her Tiger Therapy episode, Amy talks about her new book ‘Right Kind of Wrong: The Science of Failing Well, where she outlines her research into failure.
Spoiler: the popular Silicon Valley-style narrative of the benefits of failure isn’t quite right.
She also opens up about how her own failures caused her profound self doubt and made her question everything.
Thank you Amy for the brilliant conversation!

Tue, 23 Jan 2024 - 45min - 12 - Growing Up Around Fame and Life Lessons from Intellectual Disability - Tim Shriver
We’re back with Season 2 of Tiger Therapy!!!
What’s it like growing up in one of the most famous families in the world? How does this shape your sense of self worth, and the pressure you put on yourself to have an extraordinary career?
I’m beyond excited to be kicking off S2 with a conversation with the amazing Dr. Timothy Shriver, disability rights activist and Chairman of Special Olympics.
You may well already know who Tim is - he’s a disability rights activist, and Chairman of Special Olympics. Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
And if you recognise the name “Shriver” beyond Tim - then that may well be because of Tim’s family. While nobody wants to be defined by one’s relatives, it’s fair to say his family have shaped the world as we know it today - and have also shaped Tim’s life work.
His mother, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, founded Special Olympics, and also happened to be sister to former U.S. President John F. Kennedy. His father Sargent Shriver, founded the Peace Corps.
I’m so grateful to Tim for opening up with me and sharing what he’s learned about self doubt, why the comparison game is dangerous, and the life lessons and unexpected meaning he’s found from working with those with intellectual disabilities.

Wed, 17 Jan 2024 - 43min - 11 - Being Both a Superstar Athlete & Oscar Winning Screenwriter - Lesley Paterson
While most of us are focusing on making one career work, this weeks episode is with someone who has totally dominated two completely different industries.
When Lesley Paterson, 5x World Champion professional triathlete retired from sports, she was asked “What’s next?” She replied she was moving around the world from Scotland to Los Angeles to write a screenplay and win an Oscar.
If anyone doubted her, they might have felt justified as the years went by. It took 16 years for Lesley’s screenplay, an adaptation of “All Quiet on the Western Front"; to get made - it was eventually picked up by Netflix.
Lesley not only succeeded in her goal to win an Oscar, she won four. And seven Bafta’s too.
What an extraordinary story of the power of perseverance and believing in yourself.
Lesley also has an amazing technique to overcome self doubt - which I’ll defiantly be trying!

Wed, 20 Dec 2023 - 31min - 10 - From Skipping School to NASA to Million Dollar Startup: A Story of Incredible Growth - Aisha Bowe
“When I was growing up, I was heavily influenced by my circumstances at the time. I didn’t come from a rich family. I didn’t feel smart. I had never seen a woman do the things I do now.”
Aisha Bowe’s growth story is nothing short of extraordinary. From believing she was “dumb” and bad at math whilst at school, an inspirational teacher changed the course of her life, leading her to study aerospace engineering - ultimately landing her at NASA as a bona fide rocket scientist. After NASA, she founded STEMBoard— recognized by Inc.5000 as one of the fastest-growing companies in America.
Not bad for someone who regularly suffers from self doubt and imposter syndrome.
Thank you Aisha for coming on Tiger Therapy - we’re so inspired by you!

Tue, 12 Dec 2023 - 47min - 9 - Everything You Thought About Confidence & Self Doubt is Wrong - Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic
Do you ever doubt yourself or lack confidence? If so, you’re definitely going to want to listen to this - it might just change your mind about everything.
Dr. Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, is an organizational psychologist who studies (among other things) confidence. Where he’s different from a lot of literature you may have read on the topic, is he isn’t trying to increase our confidence - rather, the opposite.
If you want to listen to something who will make you feel your lack of confidence is a secret superpower - this is for you!
Tomas has also written several books - the two most relevant for this topic are 'Confidence: How Much You Really Need and How to Get It' and 'Why Do So Many Incompetent Men Become Leaders.' His latest book, 'I, Human: AI, Automation, and the Quest to Reclaim What Makes Us Unique', is out now.

Wed, 06 Dec 2023 - 53min - 8 - Turning a No into a Billion-Dollar Yes - Julia Stewart
“You don’t borrow $2.7 billion for revenge, but….”
I’m so obsessed with Julia Stewart’s story, as I made clear in the episode - if no-one makes a film out of her life in the next few years, I’m going to write the screenplay myself!
Julia Stewart is the former President of Applebees, former CEO of IHOP, and when IHOP acquired Applebees, Julia became CEO of Dine Brands Global - the largest sit down restaurant group in the world.
She’s now founded her own wellness brand, Alurx.
Hers is a story of grit, courage and the will to fight for what you believe you’re worth.
Julia - I loved every second of our conversation. I can’t thank you enough for being so generous with your time, wisdom and stories.

*Please note that this podcast contains strong language*
Cindy Gallop seems totally fearless. Is she actually? Turns out, yes. She attributes her confidence partly to her age, but also to knowing exactly who she is and what she stands for. In this episode of Tiger Therapy, Cindy shares what she’s learned from being President of a major advertising firm to being the purpose-driven founder of “world-changing startup” MakeLoveNotPorn.
We cover why so much of the advice given to women is wrong, why diversity, equity and inclusion trainings don’t work, why men need more female leadership role models, handling sexual harassment and why our fear of discussing sex needs to be addressed.
