Bonafide with Luke Bona

Bonafide with Luke Bona is the unfiltered voice of everyday Australia. After decades in national radio, Luke brings his legendary no-BS approach to the podcast world. We tackle the real issues the mainstream media ignores: Australian politics, the cost of living, motoring, technology, culture, and the transport industry. From the realities of the road on Truckie Tuesday to wild true crime in the Man Cave, get the raw, unhinged truth you’ve been looking for. No censors. No apologies. Subscribe to join the conversation.
- 231 - FULL SHOW: Is your car spying on you? And what is disorganised crime?
Is your car listening to you? James Ward from Drive says some cars do send voice and driving data back to the maker, and explains why no government cares about your everyday chat but you still shouldn't talk secrets in any new car. He also has the case for a pre-purchase inspection, and why V8s are holding their value.
David Littleproud joins from Horsham on the rate rise, the backpacker visa cut and the OpenAI breach of a Medicare data portal.
Former NSW detective Dr Vince Hurley says the gangs behind this wave of violence pay brokers to find someone else to do the job, and that cutting the tobacco excise wouldn't stop them.
Plus, Dave Fuller from God's Squad explains how a Christian motorcycle club earned a place in outlaw clubhouses.
On Truckie Tuesday, Rod Hannifey is home in Dubbo talking fuel and Stoney Creek Road, and he has a warning for anyone who sits beside a truck's left door.
Guests: Dr Vince Hurley, David Littleproud, Dave Fuller, James Ward, Rod Hannifey, Belinda Hughes

Tue, 06 Oct 2026 - 2h 39min - 230 - FULL SHOW: A prison officer's 15 years inside, Shane Oliver on rates and the shark cull fight
Nick rang Luke on 2GB after a chat about second chances, and he had 15 years of stories. As a NSW prison officer at Lithgow and at the women's jail at Emu Plains, Nick saw the perspex crack in a riot and had an inmate tell him she knew where his family lived. His view is that most prisoners don't want to be rehabilitated. Some of his own stories, like the woman who left jail a qualified chef, point the other way.
AMP chief economist Shane Oliver blames government spending for the Reserve Bank's rise to 4.60%, but he doesn't expect another rise before Christmas.
In the Man Cave, shark fisherman Joel Nancarrow and Adam McDonald fall out over culling after the fatal attack at Sorrento Beach. Luke's dangerous dog question changes the argument. Adam also brings in a first generation Humphrey B. Bear.
Thomas fills in for Kelsey, plus David Shoebridge as Greens leader.
Guests: Nick, Shane Oliver, Joel Nancarrow, Adam McDonald
This episode contains strong language. It discusses sexual assault in prison, domestic violence, violent deaths and fatal shark attacks.

Thu, 01 Oct 2026 - 2h 07min - 229 - Truckie Tuesday: The NHVR Boss In Rod's Cab, And Fighting A Ticket
Truckie Tuesday on its own, for anyone who just wants the truck stuff. NHVR chief executive Nicole Rosie spent a day in Rod Hannifey's truck out of Dubbo, and Rod had a list of about 32 questions waiting. Back on Truckie Tuesday she answers the one drivers ask most: is the regulator out to get them? She says education with drivers is up, and that the hard end of enforcement is for repeat, high-risk operators with years of breaches, some of them on their fourteenth letter. Not mudguards. Rod still thinks the fines are too high for anything that isn't a safety breach.
She also covers sham contracting and why an EWD on its own won't solve fatigue. If trucking wants more women behind the wheel, she says the first fix is toilets and showers.
Before that, Belinda Hughes from Hughes Law on whether to pay a ticket, fight it or ask for a review. Angus wins Where's Rodney.

Mon, 28 Sep 2026 - 2h 42min - 227 - FULL SHOW: Should Prisoners Work On Victoria's Roads? Plus, Ai 'Annihilation '
Victoria wants minimum-security prisoners working on its roads. Kerry Tucker spent her sentence in the state's maximum-security women's prison untangling airline headphones and sanding chairs in a hot shed, and she tells Luke what work inside should actually be for: getting a woman ready to live next door to you when she gets out, not just filling in her day. She makes the case for education, explains why short sentences leave women serving long terms waiting years for programs, and says building more beds is the lazy fix.
Kerry also goes back to the $1.9 million she took from her employer, the spin class where she was arrested, a month in the police cells with women she had once judged, and the night before her release, when she asked if she could stay.
In the Man Cave, Professor Toby Walsh from UNSW Sydney explains what an AI agent is and why we can't simply pull the plug. Tom Denham is in the chair for the news, from Trump's superintelligence line at the UN to smart glasses at the pool and a runaway emu at Nashdale.

Thu, 21 May 2026 - 2h 41min - 225 - Truckie Tuesday: Roadside Rights, Potholes & Merging Rules
Truck drivers, roadside stops and what an officer can actually make you do. Belinda Hughes from Hughes Law takes Truckie Tuesday through your rights on the side of the road, and along the way she puts a stop to something a lot of drivers have been told for years: that a curtain across the back of the cab makes the bunk a private area they cannot enter. It does not. She also explains what they can ask you, what you are actually required to say, why the body worn camera is running for the whole hour, and what happens to the one or two sentences they pull out of it afterwards.
Rod Hannifey is pulled over at Parkes after a week where nothing went right, including a two hour job that took four and a half. He has the results of last week's poll on the 5 per cent problem, and half of you blamed the companies and customers setting the schedule.
Plus: Adam has had ten cars in one hour refuse to dip their headlights, Callum sends in Matty The Truckie's video about the thank you wave, and Fiona wants to know who was in the wrong when a cattle truck would not let her past. Rod has a rant about what merging actually means in law, which is not what most drivers think it means.

Jessica Wang, a journalist who covers federal politics started out writing about reality television, and she says the two jobs are not that different. Protagonists, antagonists, a main plot, side plots, and producers steering the narrative they want you to follow. Luke, who watched reality contestants get handed radio shows with no talent, has been saying a version of this for twenty years.Plus: the Intergenerational Report says we will live longer and have fewer children, and Luke asks who is actually going to look after us, then admits he does not know. Four out of five cigarettes in this country are now bought illegally and nobody can measure smoking any more. Tony Burke's immigration reset at the National Press Club. Four deaths in a weekend and a domestic violence emergency the police cannot explain. A listener's idea for a tax break on country holidays, which Luke tries to claim as his own. Mon, 21 Sep 2026 - 2h 14min - 223 - Would You Fly With No Pilot? Runway Scares, Peter Brock, And Spotting A Fake Birkin
What's real, what's fake, and who gets to decide? The ATSB has opened six investigations into runway and taxiing incidents at Sydney Airport since late July. Aviation researcher Dr Graham Wild from UNSW Canberra tells Luke whether it's still safe to fly, why he thinks air traffic control leans on old technology, and whether you'd ever board a plane with no one in the cockpit. Along the way: why planes don't fly higher, what's actually in jet fuel, and why you won't get sucked out of an airlock if you stand at the back.
Then Drive's James Ward remembers Peter Brock 20 years on, from the Energy Polarizer Holden refused to sell to the 1987 Bathurst win decided after the flag, and explains why electric cars just outsold petrol in Australia for the first time and what to check before buying a used one.
In the Man Cave, Adam McDonald is joined by Leanne Coneybear, president of the National Pawnbrokers Association of Australia, on how a pawn loan really works, the myths about stolen goods, a Birkin with glue under the stitches, the fake that fooled a 30-year watch expert, and why Rolex and Pokémon cards run on scarcity.
Plus the week's news with Kelsey: Daniel Billings sentenced for the murder of Molly Ticehurst, Pauline Hanson's comments about Indigenous Australians, and the HYROX race everyone's talking about. And your voicemails on local music, Hanson and Anthony Albanese, and a new song from Jono.
This episode discusses domestic violence and murder, racist comments about Indigenous Australians and, briefly, suicide.

Thu, 17 Sep 2026 - 2h 20min - 222 - Truckie Tuesday: The 5% Problem, Fleets At Auction & Fatigue (Solo-Cut)
Rod Hannifey has been doing the numbers. He reckons 80 to 85 per cent of Australian truck drivers do everything right, another 10 to 15 per cent get pushed too hard by a boss or a customer, and fewer than 5 per cent have decided the rules do not apply to them. What worries him is that police ministers and commissioners seem increasingly willing to talk about the whole industry as though it were that last 5 per cent. This week he puts those figures to you directly and asks whether they match the industry you know, and what could actually be done about it.
Rod and Luke also work through where your electronic work diary data ends up once Transport Certification Australia is holding it, and what happens when AI is pointed at five years of records. NatRoad chief executive Warren Clark has written about operators still signing contracts with no fuel recovery clause, which leads into something Rod has been watching from the road: whole fleets appearing at auction, and the undercutting spiral that follows when that gear sells cheap. There is Toll's new hydrogen prime mover rollout with Viva Energy and BlueScope, the story of what really happened to LPG, and Victoria's five proposed heavy vehicle licensing reforms, which prompt the line of the episode: we do not have a driver shortage, we have a shortage of people who want to be drivers.
And for R U OK Day, Rod makes the case for ringing a mate, with a number from his own Christmas phone calls that is hard to hear.
Plus a copy of Toots: Woman in a Man's World by Donna Vawdrey to give away, a Hughes Law court win teased for next week, and Where's Rod Been returns with an Ian Moss clue.
⚠ Content warning: this episode includes a brief, non-graphic discussion of suicide during the R U OK Day segment. Listener discretion advised.

Tue, 15 Sep 2026 - 47min - 221 - Littleproud Hits Back At Barnaby Joyce, Plus Dr Karl On Aircrew Cancer And Scotty Phillips On Super
Barnaby Joyce says he was told to leave the Nationals, not once but a number of times. David Littleproud says it never happened. "He's never been asked to leave the National Party, ever," the Maranoa MP and former party leader tells Luke. "That is an outright lie, and I'm very disappointed that he'd even say that." He also takes on migration numbers, the fuel excise, whether Pauline Hanson went too far on Anthony Albanese's late mother, and whether Erin Patterson's solitary confinement crosses a line.
Then Dr Karl Kruszelnicki on a new Harvard study that puts cabin crew and pilots at the top of 503 occupations for radiation-linked cancer deaths, what hydrogen can and can't do for ships, planes and steel, and why yawning is contagious. Scott Phillips from The Motley Fool on why One Nation's early-super policy would worsen the problem it's meant to solve, and the surprisingly good story of Australian credit from Bankcard in 1974 to tap-and-go. Daily Telegraph journalist Jessica Wang on what the Canberra press gallery actually sees. And on Truckie Tuesday, Rod Hannifey on Toll's new hydrogen prime movers, Victoria's licensing shake-up, fuel clauses and the race to the bottom, and a question he wants every driver in the country to answer.
Plus listener mail on the Aldi middle aisle, superannuation, and who should be playing the grand final.

Mon, 14 Sep 2026 - 2h 56min - 220 - What Actually Fixed The Worst Boys In Her School? | Man Cave
Tracy Tully spent a career in the roughest schools in Australia, and she taught on both sides of 1995, the year corporal punishment ended in Queensland state schools. She caned children. The ones she caned still stop her in the street. Ask her whether it should come back and the answer is not the one you expect. This one is a Man Cave, so Luke Bona and Adam MacDonald get there sideways. It starts with dumb phones, a 20 cent yo-yo now worth 700 dollars, and Adam's theory that everyone is just trying to buy their youth back. It lands on what happens to boys who grow up without a man in the house who gets them. Adam's answer is one teacher, a jiu jitsu coach, and week on week off with a mother he never stopped getting along with. Tracy's answer is the story at the centre of this episode.First day at a school out west, brief of two words: fix it. By five o'clock she had expelled the six worst boys in the school, and by five o'clock she had a plan for them. Her family ran shearing teams. She asked for six men she could absolutely trust. The boys went into the sheds for six weeks with no phone, no alcohol and no drugs, running at dawn, learning how to fix a tap, sitting around a campfire at night having the conversations nobody had ever had with them. Every parent signed. Every boy stayed at school. She gave each of them a shearer's singlet and they wore it into town like a uniform. Most of them are still in the game. Also in this one: Book Week costume bans, school uniforms as the great leveller, the student who was allowed to identify as a cat and drink milk from a saucer while Adam's son got pinged for wearing a hoodie, Adam's own father walking into a police station, and a 1965 Humphrey B. Bear that is about to go in the post.Guests: Tracy Tully, author of FEARless Buckle UP Build ResilienceHeads up: this episode discusses the corporal punishment of children, a ten-year-old being assaulted, a father striking his teenage son, threats made against a family, and two deaths. Fri, 11 Sep 2026 - 49min - 219 - Truckie Tuesday: Refused A Licence Test Over An In-Cab Camera...
Lachlan is a young truck driver. He booked his heavy vehicle licence upgrade, paid his fees, turned up at the testing centre, and was sent home. The reason he was given: the safety cameras inside his employer's truck can't be deactivated, and tampering with them is a sackable offence. Two other drivers from the same company had already tested in the same truck without an issue. Rod Hannifey and Luke Bona work through what he should do next, and it opens onto the question the industry hasn't answered. A truck is a workplace, but it's also a bedroom. So who gets to watch, and who keeps what they see?
Plus: the NHVR and Transport Certification Australia have built a new Generation 2.0 electronic work diary framework, with the specification due out within weeks, and Hughes Law's Belinda Hughes reads what the fact sheet doesn't say about where all that fatigue data is headed. Sham contracting is costing the country billions in lost tax revenue and driving decent operators out of business. NHVR chief executive Nicole Rosie is flying to Dubbo to spend a full day in Rod's truck. Senator Bridget McKenzie is confirmed for a coming episode. There's a new segment where you can put a legal question straight to Belinda. And Where's Rodney is finally solved, at Wyaga Creek on the Gore Highway.

Mon, 07 Sep 2026 - 30min - 218 - Should The Swans Cut All Five Loose? | Man Cave Special
Michael Hope has been around AFL his whole life, he knows Isaac Heeney and he knows his family, and he says the Sydney Swans now have a problem that suspending five players does not fix. On this Man Cave he tells Luke Bona and Adam MacDonald what he would do if he were on that board: trade all five at the end of the season, and bring in a testing regime the club runs itself. Hope trained as a pharmacist before he was a winemaker, and the detail he brings to what a drug test can and cannot find is the part of this conversation nobody else is having.
Plus: why an AFL club cannot simply tear up a contract the way an NRL club can, what Richmond were thinking on their Mad Monday, the lawyers already circling with civil claims, and the moment Adam pulls out a set of 1930s polio calipers and a straitjacket.
UPDATE, correcting what we said on air: this episode was recorded in late August. Since then, Victoria Police confirmed on 2 September that Sexual Crimes Squad detectives interviewed four men in relation to the Pullman Hotel allegations. Riley Bice, who the club also stood down, is not being investigated over the sexual assault allegations. No arrests have been made and no charges have been laid against anyone. Police expect to provide a further update in around eight weeks.
Everything discussed here is an allegation. Nobody has been charged.
Michael Hope's view of the AFL's illicit drugs policy is his own. For what the policy actually says, the AFL Players' Association publishes it directly.

Sun, 06 Sep 2026 - 28min - 217 - Why Do Trucks Keep Hitting Bridges? Plus, Bridge Strikes & Tanker Chains
This week's Truckie Tuesday: a new independently-verified report finds heavy-vehicle bridge strikes are costing the Australian economy $101 million a year — 1,220 incidents in the last 12 months, up 38% since 2018. Rod Hannifey and Luke Bona dig into why, including Rod's own story about a bridge clearance sign that was never updated after the road underneath it was resurfaced.
Plus: copper thieves targeting EV chargers and streetlights around the country, a new industry survey seeking every transport worker's voice on mental health, Rod's take on whether the NHVR's fatigue-blitz statistics tell the full story, a visit from NSW Minister Jenny Aitchison, Senator Bridget McKenzie confirmed for a coming episode, an update on the Great Western Highway works, a heartfelt tribute to trucking legend Toots Holzheimer, and a Legal Win of the Week from Hughes Law's Belinda Hughes.

Mon, 31 Aug 2026 - 40min - 216 - Brown Paper Bags Backhanders & 3 Truck Licence Assessors Referred To Police
Three heavy-vehicle licence assessors have been pulled from the NSW scheme and referred to police after a joint Transport for NSW/NHVR crackdown across Tweed Heads and Lismore. Rod Hannifey and Luke Bona ask what it means for every driver those assessors trained — and a listener writes in with an anonymous, unverified account of "brown paper bag" backhanders allegedly pushing safe local trucking contracts to cheaper, non-local operators.
Plus: a $100 million funding boost for the Great Western Highway's Blue Mountains rebuild, a $10,000 free training pathway launching for Cairns jobseekers, the NHVR's latest fatigue blitz results (6,100+ heavy vehicles checked, non-compliance on the rise), a Legal Win of the Week from Hughes Law's Belinda Hughes, and Rod's rant on logbook fines that treat honest paperwork mistakes as deceit.

Mon, 24 Aug 2026 - 25min - 215 - The Last Australian Showman, The Sydney Swans Scandal & Penguins vs. Bird Flu
He's the last touring boxing-tent showman left in the world, and 74 years old hasn't slowed him down. Outback legend Fred Brophy joins Luke Bona and vice captain Adam McDonald in the Man Cave for the full story — jail time at Pentridge, a run-in with Mark "Chopper" Read, deliberately cutting off his own finger, and why he says he's still got a few more years left in him.
Also this episode: is it really the worst time in 56 years to buy a first home in Australia? Motley Fool Chief Investment Officer Scotty Phillips joins Luke Bona to explain why the deposit — not the mortgage repayment — is the real barrier for young buyers, and the case against early access to superannuation. Dr Rob Zammit on the world-first program racing to vaccinate Phillip Island's penguin colony against H5N1 bird flu. Legal eagle James Glissan breaks down the Sydney Swans investigation and the presumption of innocence, plus the latest on Erin Patterson's appeal against her conviction.
⚠ Content warning: this episode's Man Cave segment includes a guest's own account of jail time, a serious injury, and past self-harm, with strong, unbleeped language. Also discusses a Victoria Police investigation into an alleged incident involving Sydney Swans players (unconfirmed, no charges laid) and a separate criminal matter involving minors. Tue, 18 Aug 2026 - 48min - 213 - 2,800 Missing Australians, A Cambridge Tragedy & NSW's New Gun Laws
Every year, 49,000 Australians are reported missing — most are found within weeks. 2,800 are not. True-crime author and Australian Missing Persons Register founder Nicole Morris sits down with Luke Bona to tell the stories behind the numbers: a crossbow murder on Sydney's northern beaches, the still-unsolved 2001 disappearance of Janine Vaughan, the 1978 case of Trudy Adams that stopped a generation of girls hitchhiking, and the hundreds of unidentified bodies still sitting in Australian morgues today.
Channel Seven's UK bureau chief Ben Downie joins live from London to unpack the tragic academic scandal dominating British headlines — a Cambridge professor's resignation, and his death days later, and the very real question of who's to blame. Former National Party leader David Littleproud breaks down NSW's sweeping new gun laws in the wake of the Bondi attack, and weighs in on Pauline Hanson's latest Mardi Gras comments.
Then it's Truckie Tuesday with Rod Hanafi: a national truckers' apprenticeship push, the extraordinary story of driver-advocate Sharon Horne, and a live legal fight with Hughes Law over a trucking company shut down overnight.
Guests: Nicole Morris (author, Australian Missing Persons Register) · Ben Downie (Channel Seven, UK) · David Littleproud MP · Rod Hannifey (Truckie Tuesday) · Sharon Horne · Belinda Hughes (Hughes Law)
⚠ Content warning: this episode discusses real missing-persons cases, murder and abduction (non-graphic, historical), a recent death by suicide, and gun violence in a policy context. Listener discretion advised.

Mon, 17 Aug 2026 - 2h 26min - 212 - Pauline Hanson on Protests, Truckies, & Beetroot on Brugers
She's home for one night between flights, and Senator Pauline Hanson isn't pulling any punches. Luke Bona sits down with the One Nation leader for a full solo interview, starting with yesterday's nationwide student walkout against her and One Nation — and her blunt response to it, including a secret recording of a teacher she says abused students in class, which she says she's about to release.
From there: whether she could genuinely become Prime Minister off the back of One Nation's poll surge, how she'd handle Donald Trump one-on-one, the AUKUS tightrope between the US and China, Albanese's awkward melon moment with Japan's PM, her friendship with Gina Rinehart, the real cost of Nauru, overtime tax reform, a push for a national truckies' apprenticeship scheme, and the fish and chip shop she ran for a decade before politics.
Guests: Senator Pauline Hanson (Leader, Pauline Hanson's One Nation)
⚠️ Contains a protester's sign quoting strong language (not repeated in these notes) and a brief, non-graphic reference to self-harm in immigration detention.

Fri, 14 Aug 2026 - 43min - 211 - Alan Jones's 5-Year Sentencing Shock, Tim Costello vs. Gambling, and Melon Gate
Local court, no jury, and a maximum sentence nowhere near what most people assume — even if every charge sticks. Criminal lawyer James Glissan joins Luke Bona to break down how Alan Jones's 22-charge hearing actually works, why the cap is five years, and what "tendency evidence" means for a case built on unproven allegations.
Then Reverend Tim Costello returns to unpack why Australia has the world's worst gambling losses, three decades of policy failure, and who's funding both sides of politics to keep it that way.
Plus: Kelsey and Adam McDonald in the Man Cave on Anthony Albanese's "Melon Gate" — the PM's undiplomatic gift-giving story about the Japanese Prime Minister that's now made international headlines — a self-checkout stealing debate, a sex doll mistaken for human remains, and What's In Adam's Hand.
⚠ Content warning: this episode discusses an active, unresolved criminal matter involving allegations of sexual misconduct (the accused has pleaded not guilty; the matter is before the courts) and gambling-related financial harm. Listener discretion advised.
Guests: James Glissan (Glissan & Associates Lawyers) · Reverend Tim Costello · Adam McDonald

Tue, 11 Aug 2026 - 50min - 209 - Should AI Glasses Be Banned? Plus, Matt Canavan & ACFS Collapses
Kmart's $89 "Anko" AI glasses have sold out amid a growing privacy backlash, and this week Bonafide digs into it from two angles. Greens Senator David Shoebridge tells Luke why the glasses could be referred to the Attorney-General, then makes an unexpectedly passionate case for properly resourcing Australia's under-pressure air traffic controllers. Tech commentator Trevor Long joins wearing his own Meta Ray-Bans on air and cuts through the panic with one blunt question: are we banning cameras, or are we banning photography itself?
Plus: Matt Canavan, Leader of the National Party, on the ABC's apology to Gina Rinehart, whether the Coalition could ever work with Pauline Hanson's One Nation, the case for defunding the ABC, and a first-home-buyer loophole nobody saw coming. Then it's Truckie Tuesday 132 — Rod Hannifey on braking distance and the U-turns that kill, and Belinda Hughes with this week's Legal Win.

David finally addresses the rumour that he was having an affair — private investigator, dirt file and all — and explains why he thinks it was timed to rattle him during the NSW Liberal Party's ICAC inquiry.
From there the conversation ranges across the Idaho In-N-Out shooting and what it means for Australia's gun laws, the Bondi terror attack ahead of the Royal Commission's findings, David's view on the ongoing Alan Jones trial, Gina Rinehart's legal action against the ABC, and — lighter territory — why a trip to Bunnings might just save your marriage, and the secret to 30 years with his wife Nicole.

This week on Truckie Tuesday, lawyer Belinda Hughes officially, sitting down with Luke Bona and Rod Hannifey to unpack a big regulatory shift landing on 1 August: the Heavy Vehicle National Law's new "unfit to drive" duty, what it actually covers, and why a sore toe at a roadside stop won't be enough to get anyone pulled off the road. They also bust a persistent myth about misspelled work diaries getting truckies fined, and Belinda kicks off her new weekly segment, Legal Win of the Week, with a story about the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator dragging a $411 ticket all the way to court — and losing.
Plus: a dash cam catches a car deliberately brake-checking a truck, a listener asks why his demerit points weren't reinstated after he beat his ticket in court, a trucker-turned-nursing-student writes in with a hard letter about industry standards, and Rod and Belinda talk through a fatal crash on the Hume Highway near Goulburn and what a proper accident investigation could change.

Mon, 27 Jul 2026 - 3h 17min - 201 - A Prison Ozempic Scandal, and Bronwyn Bishop On Australia's First Political Prisoner
Former Speaker of the House Bronwyn Bishop joins Luke for a wide-ranging, on-the-record catch-up: her own take on Pauline Hanson and immigration, the "White Australia policy" debate that's resurfaced in the news, ranking every Prime Minister she's served under or alongside (from Bob Hawke to Anthony Albanese), Gina Rinehart, China, and why she says the Union Jack isn't coming off the Australian flag.
Plus: legal eagle James Glisson on a convicted killer accessing taxpayer-funded Ozempic (and very nearly taxpayer-funded IVF) in a Victorian prison, and a Melbourne woman charged over alleged ISIS ties walking free on bail despite the AFP's objections; Sky News' Jonathan Kearsley on the Saudi Arabia nuclear deal and the Iran conflict; and in the Man Cave, Barnaby Joyce's viral dog-scolding moment, a chat about bullying, and a seven-year-old's viral song.
⚠ This episode includes discussion of an alleged terrorism case involving a young child, and describes (without showing) radicalising content. It also discusses a real, recent violent crime. Listener discretion advised.

The last family-owned company still manufacturing UHF radios in Australia says they'd rather shut the factory doors than take the job overseas. Plus: the channel-40 pests nobody can trace, a caravan door that could've caused a real accident, the isolation and mental load of life on the road, and Rod's hot-topics rundown, covering new speed rules for road trains, the Aldi safety stoush, and Australia's first home-built electric truck.

Tue, 21 Jul 2026 - 46min - 199 - Dr Karl On The Electric Car Fire Myth, Plus Iran, UK Politics and Truckie Tuesday
This week on Bonafide: Dr Karl joins Luke to bust the biggest myth in the electric-vs-petrol car debate, walks through why nuclear reactors have to be abandoned after about 50 years, and explains why coal ash is radioactive. Sky News' Jonathan Kearsley checks in on the escalating Iran/US conflict and the flow-on risk to petrol prices here, and Channel 7's Ben Downie breaks down Britain's fifth Prime Minister in five years, Andy Burnham, and what's left of Brexit's promise. Plus a listener's own housing crisis, a very silly debate about chicken salt, and Truckie Tuesday with Rod Hannifey and regular co-host Belinda Hughes — dash-cam law, demerit-point myths across the states, and a sobering discussion of a fatal crash on the Hume Highway alongside the road-safety-investigation case it raises.

Mon, 20 Jul 2026 - 2h 19min - 198 - Tracey Tully on School Safety, Remembering Sam Neill, and Nick McKim on Supermarket Surveillance
This week on Bonafide: educator and whistleblower Tracey Tully joins Luke for a frank, urgent conversation about violence in Australian schools — a friend's on-air account of being assaulted by a student and the PTSD that followed, real incidents involving weapons, and a concrete case for metal detectors at school gates. Bonafide pauses to remember actor Sam Neill, who passed away this week after a rare blood disease. Tasmanian Senator Nick McKim breaks down why supermarket prices keep climbing — and a genuinely surprising tangent into "surveillance capitalism," including supermarket loyalty programs that can identify shoppers by the way they walk. Plus: AMP chief economist Shane Oliver on why it takes 50% longer to build a home than it did a decade ago, and in Man Cave, Neurons AI Robotics' Adrian Tyson brings a live robot into the studio to talk AI in healthcare and the uncanny valley.

Fri, 17 Jul 2026 - 3h 28min - 197 - Derryn Hinch Spent 12 Days in Jail Rather Than Stay Silent
Before he was a household name, Derryn Hinch went to jail. In 1987 he was sentenced to 12 days for contempt of court — not for a crime against anyone, but for naming a paedophile priest the church kept moving from parish to parish.
Following Hinch's death this week, his 3AW anchorman and 42-year friend Craig Willis joins Luke Bona to tell the story behind the headline: the principle Hinch never backed down from, the management who wanted him censored on live radio, and the friendship that outlasted five decades in an industry that sacked him more times than either of them can count.
⚠ This conversation includes discussion of historical child sexual abuse and a paedophile priest's conviction, discussed factually and without graphic detail. Listener discretion advised.

Tue, 14 Jul 2026 - 27min - 196 - Truckie Tuesday: A $200,000 Fine For Paperwork, Belinda Hughes On Truckies' Unfair Tickets
This week's Truckie Tuesday: Luke Bona and co-host Rod Hannifey sit down with Belinda Hughes, principal of Hughes Law and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator's former Director of Prosecutions, to go through the real cases crossing her desk — a $206 fine for an unscheduled coffee break, a driver facing a $200,000 maximum penalty over 86 unticked log-book boxes, and her own calculation that a paperwork slip can carry a bigger fine than threatening a partner's life under NSW's stalking laws.
They also get into whether electronic work diaries actually help, why professional drivers might deserve more demerit-point leeway rather than less, the NHVR's "Don't Muck With a Truck" youth-driver campaign, and Belinda's own rule for talking to police roadside: don't.

Craig Willis, who worked alongside Derryn Hinch for 42 years, joins Luke to remember the legendary broadcaster following his passing this week — the jail term for naming a pedophile priest, the on-air sackings, and the friendship that lasted five decades.

This segment originally aired 9 June 2026
--
In this packed episode, the boys dive into the real issues facing truckies on the road today. They tackle the harsh reality that there isn't just a driver shortage—there is a shortage of people willing to deal with inflexible hours, tough lifestyle sacrifices, and an unappreciative public.

The Industry Divide: A frank discussion on how small fleet operators are struggling to keep up with large corporate fleets, and why everyday drivers desperately need more representation at major industry conventions.
Rod's Rant: Rod shares a frustrating story about his work hours, highlighting how dangerously rigid fatigue management laws can force a driver to take a 24-hour break on the side of the road when they are just 30 minutes from home.
Calling Out the Politicians: A direct plea to MP David Littleproud to fix the severe, wheel-lifting culverts through Dalby.

Mon, 18 May 2026 - 43min - 168 - Budget Blows & Sports Washing w/ Larry Canning
The Boomer and the Millennial go head-to-head on the week's hottest topics, and it’s safe to say Luke and Kels do not see eye to eye.
Here is what we're getting into:
Budget Brawls & Housing: AMP’s Shane Oliver steps in to settle the debate; will the new tax tweaks actually help young Aussies buy a house, or do we just desperately need more tradies?
Pandemic 2.0? A cruise ship with a rare Hantavirus is sending Aussies straight to a Perth quarantine facility. We ask Dr. Phil Norrie why the government is cutting the WHO's 42-day lockdown recommendation in half.
Systemic Failures: Things get heated as the duo tackles a heartbreaking child protection tragedy out of the NT and the complex reality of Indigenous social services.
Man Cave Madness: The boys take over to talk the ridiculous money behind LIV Golf, the reality of "sports washing," and what actually broke Tiger Woods. Plus, Adam casually drops a handwritten will from the year 1479.
The Real Issues: We investigate the absolute outrage of Macca's $2 soft serves and find out why Mr. Whippy ditched "Greensleeves".
Hit subscribe, check out the new merch store, and let’s get into it!

G'day folks, this episode, we're asking the hard questions like what to do with the ISIS brides and besides starving, what else does the RBA want us to do? With interest rates biting hard, chonky seals hitting the streets, and the inland rail project blowing out, we need some straight answers.

Mon, 04 May 2026 - 25min - 161 - Why Doesn't BRS Plead Innocent Now? & Saying Goodbye w/ Mark Beretta & James Glissan
** Since recording this episode, we have since learnt the horrific news that Kumanjayi Little Baby's body has been found. Our thoughts & prayers are with her family and the whole Alice Springs Community**
In Episode 103 of the Bonafide Podcast, we’re balancing the scales of justice with the absolute absurdity of modern life, shifting from the intricate legal web of Australia's highest-profile war crimes trial, to the bittersweet heartbreak of saying goodbye to a parent, to chicken sexers?

Bittersweet Goodbyes & Life After Sunrise: Channel 7 sports legend Mark Beretta steps into the Man Cave to discuss his exit from morning television after 22 years of brutal 3:00 AM alarms. The conversation takes a deeply moving turn as Mark and Adam share powerful, personal stories about losing their fathers and the importance of leaving nothing unsaid before it's too late.
Culture Clashes, News & Nostalgia: Luke and Kelsey debate the highly controversial booing at the Martin Place ANZAC Day Dawn Service , question whether Jimmy Kimmel's assassination joke about Donald Trump went too far, unpack a bizarre new primary school, and dive into the surprisingly lucrative, hyper-specific profession of "chicken sexing".Plus: It's horoscope time! Kelsey forces an unwanted astrology reading on Luke, much to his absolute dismay.

When you’ve already reached the top of the mountain, why start a new climb? For Ben Fordham, the move from TV to 2GB was all about the editorial freedom to choose his own stories.
And boy, was that a bet that paid off, securing Sydney’s #1 spot for Breakfast radio. Hear from Ben as he opens up about his late father’s legacy, the "creepy" evolution of his rivals Kyle and Jackie O, and why radio remains the king of immediacy in 2026.
Inside This Episode:
Honouring the Anzac Spirit: We sit down with Martin Shaw (President of Wounded Heroes) and Major David McHenry (Ret.) to discuss the "perfect storm" of triggers facing veterans this year.
A Century of Service: Meet Ron Fell, a 100-year-old World War II veteran who shares his incredible journey from jungle training at Canungra to becoming an SP bookmaker in Rabaul.
The Man Cave: The Vice Captain, Adam McDonald (Aussie Pickers), reveals the secrets of police auctions. Meanwhile, The Coffin Confessor: Bill Edgar returns with a wild tale of the client who offered him $200,000 to be buried with his "treasures".
AI Dogs & Bear Suits: We tackle the bizarre news of Bruce the Border Collie replacing 40 jobs and the "geniuses" who tried to scam insurance companies by trashing a Rolls Royce in a bear costume.
Plus: Why Kelsey’s "spirit animal" is a long-legged Maned Wolf and a listener's Simpsons-inspired meme that perfectly nails Luke's obsession with his V8.

What do deep-space lunar selfies, terrifying highway near-misses, and the Australian supply chain have in common? In Episode 98 of the Bonafide Podcast with Luke Bona, we’re taking a wild ride through the high-tech absurdity of modern space travel and the white-knuckle reality of what it takes to keep Australia moving.
In This Episode:

The EV Surge: Are electric vehicles actually road-trip ready? Trevor and Luke debate the reality of "destination anxiety," regional charging infrastructure, and the massive spike in EV sales across Australia.
The Fuel Crisis & "Paper Barrels": We still tackle the elephant in the room. Former Nationals leader David Littleproud calls the government's $20 million fuel-saving ad campaign a "joke" and a "vanity project". We dissect the global supply chain and why the bowser price is doing all the "educating" we need.

While everyone else is falling for April Fools' pranks,, the global shifts hitting our wallets and our roads are no joke. Luke and The Millennial are live, separating the real news from the pranks, before handing the mics over to our experts to break down the biggest stories of the week.
Intro (Live Headlines)
The Biggest Fool of All: Luke admits he fell hook, line, and sinker for Ben Fordham’s prank about the end of the Rotary sausage sizzle.
Trump’s Tantrum: Is Donald Trump actually going to pull the U.S. out of NATO? We look at his latest ultimatum telling allies to go get their own oil.
A Road Trip on the Moon: The Artemis 2 launch is doing a "lap" of the moon without parking, and Australia is running the comms—but is it all a massive waste of money?.
Easter Long Weekend: With double demerits in play, the Prime Minister urges everyone to "be responsible" with their fuel, but did the national address actually tell us anything new?.
Finance with Scotty Phillips
The Fuel Tax Inflation Bomb: The government has halved the fuel excise, dropping prices by 26.3 cents a litre. But Scotty explains why every credible economist thinks this $2.5 billion stimulus will actually drive inflation even higher.
The Death of Surcharges (or Not): The RBA is killing the debit and credit card surcharge, but don't celebrate yet—retailers will just bake that cost into a higher flat price for your morning coffee.
Restaurant "Cakeage" & Fuel Surcharges: The hospitality industry wants to add a fuel surcharge to your bill. Luke and Scotty discuss the absurdity of nickel-and-diming customers.
Motoring with James Ward
The EV Reality Check: With a massive spike in EV interest due to fuel prices, James explains why panic-buying a full electric car right now could leave you financially worse off.
Hybrids vs. PHEVs: What exactly is the difference, and which one actually makes sense for the average Australian family?.
The Towing Trap: Why any form of electrification is still useless if you need to tow a heavy load or a caravan.
Second-Hand EVs: The one crucial app you need to use to check battery health before buying a used electric car.
The Man Cave with Adam Shand & Adam McDonald
The Sovereign Citizen Standoff: Crime reporter Adam Shand does a deep dive into the death of Desi Freeman, the fugitive who murdered two Victorian cops. Shand pulls apart the pseudo-law "bullshit" of the sovereign citizen cult and explains how Freeman survived on the run for seven months.
Do We Still Need America?: The Cave debates whether Australia should step out from under the U.S. umbrella and become strategically autonomous.
Flashing Lights & Speed Traps: Is it un-Australian not to flash your lights to warn oncoming traffic of a speed camera? The boys discuss the ridiculous $2,200 fine for doing it.
Man Cave Valuations: Adam McDonald shares the incredible value of a 1-kilo Perth Mint gold coin, and values Shandy’s old retro "Baker-lite" telephone.

Fri, 03 Apr 2026 - 2h 37min - 148 - Fugitives, Fuel Cuts, & Dungeons
EP94. We kick things off with major breaking news: fugitive and sovereign citizen Desi Freeman has been shot dead by police after seven months on the run. As the national fuel crisis hits a boiling point, we also break down Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's emergency response, including a temporary 26.3-cent cut to the fuel excise and relief for our transport sector.
Here is what we have lined up for you this episode:
The Fuel Crisis & Olympic Dreams: The Nationals' David Littleproud joins the show to unpack exactly how Australia lost its sovereign refining capability and the devastating impact it's having on family trucking companies. Plus, Luke hits him with a curveball 180 question: Should Surf Lifesaving become an official sport at the 2032 Brisbane Olympics?
Unpeeling "The Onion": We welcome back the fascinating Kerrin Hofstrand to uncover another unbelievable chapter of her life. This episode, she details her time working as a professional dominatrix in Sydney. From the universal safe word to serving high-powered clients like judges, politicians, and police officers, Corinne offers an eye-opening look into the psychology of the BDSM industry. (Listener discretion is advised—this chat is definitely not for the kids!)
Truckie Tuesday with Rocket Rod: We jump into the cabin with Rod Hannifey to tackle the realities of the diesel shortage out on the road, where distributors are holding fuel for contracts while independent truckies and farmers are left stranded. To cap it off, Rod delivers a classic rant on the absolute menace of automatic high beams, massive light bars, and fog lights blinding oncoming traffic.
Settle in, hit play on the video, and let us know what you think of this week's madness!

Mon, 30 Mar 2026 - 2h 10min - 147 - Truckie Tuesday: Bells Line Blowouts, Caravan Chaos, & The “Death Book” Debate
This segment originally aired in our full Bonafide episode on 18 March 2026.
Rod Hannifey checks in from Dubbo as he prepares for a massive road train run to Perth, just as the closure of the Great Western Highway threatens to send freight traffic into chaos via the Bells Line of Road. The boys unpack the real-world fallout of detours, rising fuel costs, and why Australia’s reliance on diesel is bigger than most people realise.
There’s also plenty of listener feedback — including frustration around fatigue rules and logbooks, a wild run of caravan stories (from flapping doors to near misses), and a deeper look at the growing skills shortage facing the trucking and mechanical trades. Plus, Rod explains why delays at loading docks can cost drivers days of pay, and just how quickly panic buying can turn a fuel scare into a full-blown problem.

Thu, 26 Mar 2026 - 2h 44min - 145 - Man Cave: The Coffin Confessors Wildest Deliveries (Aired 13 Mar 26)
This segment originally aired in our full Bonafide episode on 13 March 2026.
In this Man Cave special, Bill Edgar returns with some of his wildest stories yet — from delivering coffin confessions that exposed secret affairs to the bizarre job that involved handing over a very awkward engraved “gift” after death. He also reveals how he went undercover as a dish hand to uncover theft inside major hotels, and shares the emotional side of delivering final messages from loved ones — including one father still playing chess with his late son every Sunday.
The boys also dive into Australia’s gambling problem, the mindset behind addiction, and why one bad decision can unravel an entire life. Classic Man Cave territory — shocking, funny, confronting, and completely unpredictable.

Wed, 25 Mar 2026 - 54min - 144 - Burned, Beaten & Still Fighting: Adam Shand on The Man Who Could Walk Free (Aired 13 March)
Adam Shand returns to Bonafide to discuss the horrific attack on Lauren Huxley — a teenager beaten with fibrocutters, doused in petrol and left to burn in her own home, who somehow survived against all odds. Adam shares what he learned after speaking directly with Lauren and her sister, including her long recovery, the trauma still carried by the family, and the growing fear that her attacker — who has shown no remorse or rehabilitation — could soon be eligible for parole. It’s a confronting conversation about survival, justice, and whether the system truly protects victims and their families.

Mon, 23 Mar 2026 - 2h 17min - 142 - I’d Bet On It — Petrol Attendants Are Coming Back
We kick things off live & unfiltered (and slightly behind schedule thanks to some classic tech dramas), diving straight into what people are seeing on the ground — fuel queues before sunrise, prices jumping overnight, and the pressure starting to hit from every direction.
It’s not just fuel either. Interest rates are up, groceries aren’t getting any cheaper, and there’s a real question hanging over everything… how much more can people actually take?
Scotty Phillips (The Motley Fool) joins us to break down what the latest rate rise really means, and why it feels like no one’s getting ahead right now before Rod Hannifey stops by for an update on his job to Perth.
Later, Amanda Rose jumps on for a wide-ranging chat about free speech, Grace Tame, the way politics has drifted from the people it claims to represent, Trump’s salesman appeal, and why ordinary Australians are sick of leaders reacting instead of planning ahead.
In The Man Cave, Adam McDonald’s back with a big charity auction and a few stories from the road.
Bit of chaos, bit of reality, bit of everything — just how we like it.

Thu, 19 Mar 2026 - 2h 18min - 141 - Pork Knuckle Disaster, Dirty Fuel Panic, & Wobbly Wheels
Luke kicks things off with a pork knuckle disaster that lands him in the dentist chair, before diving into the biggest stories of the week — from social media bans and OnlyFans debates to listener mail and some cracking yarns.
NRMA’s Peter Khoury breaks down the truth behind Australia’s so-called “dirty fuel” panic, what it actually means for motorists, and how global supply issues are impacting everyday Aussies.
David Littleproud joins the show to talk energy policy, fuel security, and whether Australia is dangerously exposed when it comes to supply chains and regional communities.
Then it’s Truckie Tuesday with Rod Hannifey, where the spotlight turns to life on the road — including frustrations from drivers, road safety concerns, and the kind of real-world stories you won’t hear anywhere else.

Chief Economist Shane Oliver joins to explain what the Iran conflict could mean for petrol, diesel and the cost of living in Australia — and whether panic buying is justified.
Then Luke speaks with Bob Davis from Hard Yakka, the tough-love boot camp helping turn troubled young Australians around, with some confronting stories about youth crime, consequences and the justice system.
Plus in Truckie Tuesday, Rod Hannifey weighs in on rising diesel prices and a listener question about life on the road: if your bunk cooler isn’t working, do truckies have the right to refuse to sleep in the truck?
