On this weeks show as we prepare for the holiday season, it's fast to ignore possible signs of issues with ones mental health. Certain events over time can trigger an episode which can be life or death for some.
I'll be talking with 2 mental health advocates from NF, Glenn Roil and Tina Olivero. It'll be the second time to talk to Glenn, but the first for me to talk to Tina. Glenn Roil is a global mental health advocate. His mission is to de-stigmatize mental illness and mental health and make sure everyone who requires access and treatment receives the programs and services that they need. Glen has been very open about his own mental health struggles and was the public face for mental health with the Provincial Government’s anti-stigma campaign on mental illness and addictions called “Understanding Changes Everything,” which was launched at the Premier’s Summit on Health Care.
Tina Olivero is a mother first and foremost who lost her son this past summer to addiction and is the brains behind the group Guardians of Recovery. Guardians Of Recovery provides innovative recovery solutions that include programs for families with addicted loved ones and SOBER Healing Homes for those in Recovery. We are creating Sober Communities because we believe everyone has the right to be free...drug free. A benefit concert, Ben's Law - The HUMAN RIGHT to LIVE addiction FREE! was held last week and the response has been overwhelming.
I will remind you that this weeks podcast may not be for everyone as there will be talk about suicide and mental health issues.

After talking with Asetha Power - Country Eastern, I came up with this weeks podcast and thinking you're going to like what I have in store.
Back when I did the show the first time around, not many musicians from NF were female. Since the show began again, I am finding so many amazing and talented female artists and so with that said, this coming podcast will be dedicated to them, the Women of Newfoundland Music.
I'll be playing a ton of artists from the women pioneers like Joan, Joy, Trina to today's artists, Tammy , Asetha, Laura Lynn, Shanda and many more for the 90 minutes. Not only going to chat about the musicians but 2 women who own and operate restaurants here in Ontario that cater to the Newfoundland community. Yes, I know there are more out there and you all are appreciated but I'd have to have my own radio station to go through them all, lol. Maybe one day.
So be sure to tune in live every Monday night at 8PM EST on www.ckwr.com, and of course can listen to past shows online on Spotify, Apple Music and MixCloud.
Will also be talking to Natasha, the shows Music Reporter, about this weekends Music NL events and awards being handed out in Corner Brook.
Tue, 01 Nov 2022 - 1h 31min - 8 - Jigs & Reels - October 24th, 2022
Apologizes for last weeks podcast not being uploaded. We had some technically difficulties. But all is good moving forward. It’s Monday and not only is it National Bologna Day (thanks Audrey), but it’s also time for another weekly podcast.
We’ll talk about the Highwaymen tribute shows going on and the comments about it, if only they took that show to the mainland.
Also new music, in fact, a new compilation CD my from my brother Fitz. 10 track CD that are available for purchase from the artists featured on the CD.
And ALL proceeds from the sale of this CD will go towards Tom Christopher. He’s a childhood friend of Dave and grew up in Bay Roberts and spent time in Toronto. Doesn’t play or sing but can write songs like no tomorrow. Tom has 7 brain tumors and cancer in other areas and so this is dedicated to him and all sales to him and his family.
Other new music tonight from Gary Wells and Cyril Ingram. They’ve come together to write, arrange and sing these songs you’ll hear tonight.

Wow, what a weekend. Had an amazing time at The Puffin in Queensville, Ontario on Saturday September 24th to watch 709'er and then made my way to O’Brien’s in Cambridge to watch the Mainland Kitchen Band.
Had the pleasure of meeting so many great people which I’ll talk about on this show, along with the overall day/night.
Also we know about the devastation in and around Port Aux Basques area from Tropical Storm Fiona. We’ll chat briefly about that too.
But this podcast is going to be different. I play a fair amount of Newfoundland Country music but where did it come from? I’ll tell you as this show will take you back to what might be the first Newfoundland Country musician. I’ll talk about the pioneers like Roy Payne, Derek Pilgrim to Clay Butt to Simani and to those of today, Brad Simmond's Country Music CD release, Jamie Taylor Music to Randy Matthews and of course the female pioneers like Corey & Trina and Joy Norman to Tammy Dutcher.
So be sure to tune in live every Monday at 8PM ET on CKWR 98.5 FM for the best Newfoundland music this side of the St. Lawrence.

Happy Labor Day Monday! Unofficially, the last long weekend of the summer. So on this weeks show, I’m going to be playing musicians and bands that were part of music festivals, performed at bars and just celebrate Come Home Year 2022. Newfoundland probably had the best weather for this.
Also gonna be playing some never before heard music on J&R like 709er.
Also on the podcast, gonna give you a sneak peak of a musician who I think will be taking Newfoundland by storm. I also might be a little biased .
