  • 5 - Gurkha Veteran: Corporal Sher Bahadur Rai

    Corporal Sher Bahadur Rai Crp. Sher Bahadur Rai was born on 2nd January 1947. He is from the 10 Gurkha Rifle Regiment, 2115 4842, and his friends call him 42 Nambari. He became a Gurkha boy soldier in 1961 and retired in 1980. He joined the Gurkhas’ Boys Company at the age of 13 and trained at Sungai Petani, Malaysia. He was an extraordinary athlete. Retired corporal Sher Bahadur Rai has many tales to tell.  After 19 years of loyal service, Sher Bahadur Rai retired as a Gurkha Corporal and Nepal. He returned to Hong Kong as a civilian in 1997, where he worked in the security industry. He is currently enjoying a life of semi-retirement in Hong Kong.

  • 4 - Corporal Narendra Kumar Rai: Brave Gurkha warrior

    Times have changed; Corporal Narendra Kumar Rai,  a brave warrior with army number 2116 3305, became the British Gurkha army and served in Hong Kong, Brunei, and the UK. He arrived in Hong Kong in 1972 as a son of Gurkha Soldier and spent three years, and then the second time, he arrived as Gurkha Recruit in 1979. He was stationed in the San Tin barrack, Casino line, Tai Me Camp, Malaya line, and regularly guarded the Lo Wu border. He remembers with pride how he and his fellow Gurkha soldiers protected the border and saved the lives of those illegal immigrants.

    Kulman Tamang, an 85 years old ex-Gurkha soldier assigned the army number 2114 7694, honorably served in 10 Gurkha rifle battalions. During every encounter that we have shared, he looks optimistic and energetic. He is also one of the people whose name is highly regarded whenever there are discussions in the Nepalese community. His goal is to preserve Nepali culture and tighten communal ties abroad. He is popular among the Hong Kong Nepalese.

  • 2 - Son of Brave Gurkha Khadka Prasad Rai

    Khadka Prasad Rai a Gurkha Soldier, son of Ex Gurkha Soldier. Both father-son has served Hong Kong as Gurkha soldiers. Mr. Khadka Rai was under the Gurkha Engineering battalion during his service in HK. He loves this country as much as his father did, and now he is president of the British Gurkha Ex-Servicemen Association and works for their welfare. They organize events to keep the ex-soldiers active and know their whereabouts. He considers the memorable part of his Gurkha service in HK while working as a soldier while planning and making hiking running routes in the HK hills.

  • 1 - Gurkha Warrant Officer to Taekwondo Grand Master Tulsi Kumar Gurung

    Grandmaster Tulsikumar Gurung is a retired British Gurkha Warrant Officer (Class II) with 18 years of exemplary service in the British Army, specifically the Royal Army Physical Training Corp in Hong Kong. Grandmaster Gurung has served for over 18 years as the Close Protection Officer (Chief Trainer) for a Hong Kong property magnate and his family, in addition to arranging and supervising their recreational activities.

    As a sportsman, Grandmaster Gurung has represented Hong Kong, the British Army, and Nepal in International Taekwondo Championships and also represented Nepal in swimming. Grandmaster Gurung holds the 8th Degree Black Belt. Grandmaster Gurung was the Chief Taekwondo Coach for British Armed Forces, HK for 12 years and was appointed a Chief Trainer of HK Taekwondo Association in 2002 and most recently Head Coach of Hong Kong National team since April 2013. In his capacity as an internationally qualified Taekwondo Referee (Kukkiwon/WTF), Grandmaster Gurung has officiated in International Taekwondo Championships. Grandmaster Gurung has also trained Omanese Special Forces in close combat fighting and Taekwondo.
