Welcome to Finding Freedom, the show that helps you find your freedom. We will hear the wildly differing perspectives on what freedom is, what it isn’t, and why, how, and when it can be achieved, and also taken from us, in physical, emotional and psychological ways. We will discuss topics that may challenge you, or make you reconsider your own perspective. We will explore the many facets of freedom and the ways in which to achieve it, in life, in business, in love; are you ready to find your freedom?
Freedom for me is being able to express who I am, choose the life that suits me and my personality, and being free from the ‘normal’ expectations of society. I also want the freedom to talk about topics that I don’t understand, but am curious to learn about, without judgement, political correctness, or feeling the need for self-censoring. We can only learn about things if we are free to discuss, challenge and explore.
- 72 - Breaking Free: Finding Authenticity and Purpose Through Self-Awareness
Mom, executive at GoodLeap, a multibillion dollar company, best selling author, and influencer, Kelly Resendez joins Dawn to delve into the essence of freedom and authenticity. Sharing personal journeys, they break free from societal norms to embrace self-awareness, fulfilment, and purpose. Explore confidence, worthiness, and stepping into your power to design a life of freedom. Tune in for inspiring stories and valuable insights on living boldly as your true self.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Kelly defines freedom as embracing authenticity and joy, whether through family time, hobbies, or fulfilling work. It's about shedding societal expectations and embracing true freedom in every aspect of life. Emphasising the pivotal shift from seeking external validation to embracing inner truth and vision, Kelly notes this transition empowers individuals to authentically step into their power. Yet, it's not just about the decision—it's about fostering an empowering mindset and implementing effective strategies to support this newfound authenticity. Crafting a clear vision of one's contribution to the world and aligning goals, mindset, beliefs, and energy accordingly is crucial. It's about nurturing positive energy through activities that ignite passion, rather than succumbing to low energy as an inevitable outcome of daily life. Encouraging the building of confidence by continually venturing beyond comfort zones, proving personal resilience in the face of challenges, is vital. Confidence is cultivated through practice, not innate talent. Kelly suggests celebrating moments of overcoming self-doubt or fear as one would reward a puppy during training.BEST MOMENTS
“One of the greatest challenges that we have, especially as females, is a desire to explain”
"We have this idea that confidence should just miraculously appear”
"It's not like a relationship because ultimately, you can end a relationship”
"Freedom means fully stepping into one's highest power and choosing a life of authenticity and purpose."

Sun, 21 Apr 2024 - 71 - Pushing Boundaries to Find Freedom with Rob Moore
Entrepreneur Rob Moore joins Dawn Morgan on Finding Freedom to discuss living life on your own terms. They explore controversial topics like cashless societies and imposter syndrome, emphasising the importance of embracing change and shedding old patterns. Rob shares his personal journey to freedom through accountability, integrity and strategic life design. Discover how to plant your flag with pride, confront relationships with respect, and achieve balance through mindset shifts. Rob and Dawn challenge you to push boundaries, break records, and find fulfilment in the challenges of personal growth.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
To Rob, freedom means living life on your own terms, at the speed you desire, without intervention from governments and central banks, while still being accountable to others. True freedom requires responsibility and accountability. To really taste freedom, you need context - you need to experience restriction and hardship to fully appreciate freedom when you have it. Freedom is a present moment choice, not a destination. Avoiding conflict prevents growth. You need to embrace challenging conversations and disagreements to evolve. This can be done respectfully. If you don't speak out about things you disagree with, nothing will change. Know your non-negotiables - your values, beliefs and boundaries. Articulate them. Plant your flag proudly. Don't apologise for standing up for what you believe in. Clarity on your non-negotiables allows you to live and lead with integrity.BEST MOMENTS
"Freedom is not a destination. Freedom is a present moment."
"In a way cash is a certain amount of freedom. Because let's say the government's and the central banks decided they didn't want you to leave the house because they wanted to do another lockdown. Yeah, where if money and information is all digital, they can just shut your account down."
"The more freedom you have also, paradoxically, the more responsibility you have, this is the delusion that most people don't understand."
"Freedom means living life, on your terms, but being accountable to the people who rely on you."
"Just when you think you've got all your ducks in a row one's going to fall off, or someone's going to shoot one."

Sun, 14 Apr 2024 - 70 - Finding Your Voice and Sharing Your Unique Story with Leslie Fiorenzo
Dawn’s guest today is Leslie Fiorenzo. Leslie guides her clients to find their voice and share their unique story to grow their business. Leslie's unique approach comes from over 30 years spent in corporate environments as a human resources professional. A lifelong learner, she has achieved a number of certifications and holds a master's degree in Human Resource Development.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
To Leslie, freedom is the opportunity to share what you feel is important about your business and being confident in your ability to do that. When you’re scared it makes you stuck and when you’re stuck then you’re not free. Leslie advocates for coaching to unlock internal potential and prioritise future growth, distinct from therapy's emphasis on resolving past issues. She advises seeking coaching to break through barriers and progress. Leslie highlights that fear of public speaking, networking, and self-promotion is acquired rather than innate. She supports clients in overcoming these fears to effectively promote their businesses and create impact. It’s important to heed your inner champion for liberation from self-doubt. Leslie collaborates with clients to quiet their inner critic, enabling them to pursue aspirations boldly and realise their dreams.BEST MOMENTS
“Don’t listen to that little voice inside your head that says you can’t”
“Take a step back and ask, does this feel right for me?”
“We just need to be persistent and get up when knocked down”
“Share your light - don't be the world's best kept secret”

ABOUT THE GUEST
“Early in my career I belonged to a businesswomen’s group, and they held a speaking contest. First prize was $100. I entered, I prepared and was disappointed when I didn’t win first prize, I didn’t even place in the top 5! A mentor of mine who was in the audience, gave me the following feedback: “You had a death grip on the podium, did you think it was going to run away? You stumbled over your words and the two stories you told didn’t connect to the topic.” I was devastated. It was all I could do to not cry on the way home in a car full of other women. But I was determined to conquer my fears, create stories that make an impact and craft a presentation that would wow the audience. Fast forward 10 years and my then employer sent me to present our safety program at an industry conference. This time the prize was based on the impact of the program not the presentation, yet when people approached me afterward and gave me compliments on my delivery and the stories I shared; I knew I’d moved well beyond that timid young woman losing a speech contest years before.”

Mon, 08 Apr 2024 - 69 - From Caged Bird to Free Spirit: Anke Herrmann's Journey to Autonomy
Embark on Anke Herrmann's inspiring journey from life behind the Berlin Wall to empowering dog owners worldwide. Discover her quest for freedom, resilience in adversity, and the transformative power of following one's passions.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Anke grew up in East Germany behind the Berlin Wall, where freedom was severely restricted. She felt like a "big parrot in a tiny cage", unable to travel or make her own choices. After leaving East Germany, Anke realised that freedom in West Germany was not as perfect as it seemed from the outside. However, she still valued the autonomy to make her own choices without government interference. Anke moved to Spain to work for herself and have the freedom to follow her passions, even starting a dressmaking business out of pure interest. Now Anke advocates for dogs through her Soul Touched by Dogs project, celebrating the human-canine connection. This allows her to do meaningful work on her own terms. To Anke, freedom means "having an idea and being able to make it happen". It's about autonomy over her life path rather than material possessions.BEST MOMENTS
"Freedom isn't having the tropical island and luxury. It's about freedom of creative expression."
"In East Germany everything was guided, they treated you like toddlers."
"I wanted autonomy. I didn't want to watch some big company be steered in the wrong direction."
"Freedom to me means having an idea and being able to make it happen."

Sun, 31 Mar 2024 - 68 - Switching Priorities and Cutting Out Unnecessary Work with Andrew Cook
Andrew Cook and Dawn discuss personal freedom, work-life balance, and entrepreneurship. They reflect on cultural differences in work ethic and productivity, sharing experiences in the military and corporate world. Andrew emphasises tailoring HR solutions to small businesses, while Dawn helps solopreneurs build their side businesses. They agree freedom means spending time and money on what's meaningful.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Andrew critiques the Puritan work ethic's impact on American culture, highlighting a constant need to work at the expense of personal life. He contrasts this with Europe's healthier work-life balance. He attributes this mindset to Puritan values, leading to equating worth with productivity. Andrew critiques societal stigmas and business language, reflecting on his father's experience. In his business, Andrew simplifies HR processes for small business clients, aiming to save them time, money, and frustration. He customises solutions to their scale and requirements, eschewing overly complex systems designed for larger corporations. Andrew's mission is to streamline operations, enabling clients to focus on what truly matters for their business' growth and success. Andrew values entrepreneurship for the autonomy it provides him over his time and resources. Reflecting on past jobs, where he sacrificed family time to fulfil others' demands, he now cherishes owning his business, affording him the freedom to align work with personal values. Freedom to Andrew is having the freedom to spend his resources, his time, money, and energy in ways that are meaningful and impactful in his world. He doesn’t feel obligated to work long hours or chase promotions. He cherishes being able to have lunch with his son daily and spend time with familyBEST MOMENTS

‘My dad was a magnificent example of working hard and having no enjoyment’
‘I value the ability to choose how I spend my time and resources, prioritising meaningful moments with loved ones over work’
‘Owning a business allows me to pick my clients, aligning my work with my values and creating a sense of celebration when clients have positive outcomes’

Mon, 25 Mar 2024 - 67 - Dealing With Being a People Pleaser & Being a Burnt-Out Parent
Today Dawn is joined by Jamie Vollmoeller. Jamie is a mum, wife, group practice owner, clinical therapist, radio host, and certified clinical trauma professional. Jamie is on a mission to remind mums and parents that you are good enough and specialises in working with people pleasers, burnt-out parents, and professionals who feel chronically not good enough.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Part of finding freedom is embracing the full spectrum of emotions, recognizing that happiness isn't constant, and accepting negative emotions as part of the human experience. Striving for perpetual happiness is neither realistic nor attainable for anyone. Children often mimic the body language and emotions of their parents, reflecting their caregivers' emotional states. Parents serve as emotional regulators for their children and should be projecting healthy emotional expression, providing comfort, and offering support during challenging times. People often strive excessively to gain universal approval, morphing into social chameleons. Yet, this facade breeds unhappiness, as authenticity gets sacrificed. True contentment arises when one embraces their genuine self, finding their tribe among those who appreciate them for who they truly are. For Jamie, freedom is the ability to be herself in any situation and feel completely safe while doing so in both mind and body.BEST MOMENTS
‘It was almost like I was a prisoner in my mind, I knew my thoughts were not true’
‘As parents we are their sense of safety, if I feel safe then so will they’
‘You’re not in control of other people, but you are in control of how you respond’
‘Thank you for that piece of advice, but I’m going to go my own way’

Mon, 18 Mar 2024 - 66 - How to Live Unapologetically with Steve Anderson
What does it really mean to be free? Former nonprofit director Steve Anderson joins Dawn to share his perspectives on embracing emotional freedom, overcoming fear and self-doubt, and living life unapologetically as your true self. Steve reflects on his personal journey to express himself openly without anxiety, gain confidence in his emotions, and let go of expectations. Find out about taking risks, making space for failure, and questioning self-limiting beliefs, the balances between freedom and responsibility in relationships, parenting, and professional roles, and making responsible choices.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Freedom means taking responsibility, setting boundaries, and deciding based on internal values. Steve stresses saying "no" as vital for maintaining freedom—protecting individual needs, resisting external pressures, and fostering authenticity in the journey of self-discovery. While freedom of speech is widely supported, concerns arise over self-censorship among students. Embracing diverse perspectives becomes crucial for true freedom, encouraging open dialogue and enriching the learning environment. Balancing parental responsibilities and personal freedom is essential. Releasing guilt is key, enabling a more focused and fulfilling commitment to family life. This delicate equilibrium promotes a healthier and more harmonious parenting experience. Emotional freedom is voicing feelings without fear of judgement. Steve values spaces that allow sharing perspectives, fostering understanding, and discovering common ground. This openness contributes to a supportive and emotionally liberated environment.BEST MOMENTS
‘Freedom is when I go, Oh, this is what I think this is what I feel this is what I'm interested in. And I have the ability to act on it’
‘Freedom requires effort and choice, but fear can hold us back’
‘They say you should have a plan. But I don't always have a plan’

Mon, 04 Mar 2024 - 65 - Finding Inner Joy and Happiness Through Self-Awareness with Stephan Szugat
Dawn and former Interim-Manager turned coach, Stephan Szugat, discuss his journey to simplicity in finding inner joy. Stephan coaches businesses on profit and individuals on happiness through practices like mindfulness and facing fears. This episode promotes enduring freedom and joy within through heightened self-awareness.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Personal freedom is seizing control, confidently aligning decisions with values despite fearing judgement. It means setting healthy boundaries, risking disapproval, and saying "no" to what doesn't serve your highest good. It's honouring authenticity over conformity. Emotional freedom is the capacity to feel and express emotions without guilt or anxiety about judgement. ‘Feelings is come and go just like the clouds in the sky’
‘What am I doing to myself with having these negative beliefs’
‘It was incredibly freeing, suddenly realising it's not me, it's my subconscious mind trying to protect me’

Mon, 04 Mar 2024 - 64 - Finding Freedom from Societal Expectations and Living Authentically with Louisa Valentin
Louisa is a powerhouse of positivity and energy, she helps busy women transform their health while having fun, and without overwhelming restrictions. Dawn has had the pleasure of coaching Louisa through her journey to finding freedom from societal expectations and living authentically. As a child, she focused on pleasing others and meeting their expectations. Over time, she realised this was not authentic to who she was.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Freedom for Louisa is feeling alive, present in her space and body, unbound by societal expectations. It's rejecting others' standards, avoiding the future's grip, and embracing the essence of now—immersing herself in the present, in her being, and her space. Louisa helps clients get to the root cause of their weight and body image struggles, which often stem from emotional reasons like seeking love or hiding from feeling unattractive. She digs deeper with clients to understand the underlying beliefs and experiences driving their behaviours. This enables her to create customised plans that address core issues rather than just surface level actions. Louisa emphasises making small, sustainable changes rather than extreme, short-lived diets. She meets clients where they are instead of prescribing rigid, one-size-fits-all solutions. For example, she may suggest incorporating a vegetable at each meal or taking a walk rather than immediately adopting an intense workout regimen. This individualised approach leads to longer-lasting change. As a coach, Louisa aims to be a supportive cheerleader celebrating wins and working through challenges as a team. She partners with clients on their health journey rather than dictating steps. This collaborative dynamic and accountability helps motivate clients to do the work themselves to transform their health.BEST MOMENTS
‘I was that person who was focused on everybody else's opinion of what I should be doing how I should be living my life’
‘We're always focused so much on the future, that we don't take the time to just experience now’
‘Freedom is being your authentic self and not having to hide behind anybody else's perceptions’

Mon, 04 Mar 2024 - 62 - Sexuality and Personal Choice with Former Sex Worker and Somatic Sexologist Artemisia de Vine
Dawn is joined by Artemisia de Vine for a fascinating conversation covering themes of freedom, sexuality, and personal choice from the perspective of a former sex worker and somatic sexologist. Artemisia discusses the complex interplay between restriction and expansion that creates freedom. She shares her personal story of struggling with societal stigma as a sex worker while seeking inner wisdom and autonomy.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Artemisia faced challenges growing up, with her mother dying young and her father rejecting her. This led her to follow her own path and interests, leading to her fascination with the sex industry. She went "native" and became a sex worker to understand people's desires. Sexual fantasies help us overcome our fears of vulnerability so we can let go. They are stories that transport us to different feeling states. Women can get in the mood by tuning into their own desires and following what their body wants, starting small like with a cup of tea. Artemisia advises setting a date with yourself and your desire to overcome resistance. Embarrassment about sexual fantasies is natural, as there is a part of us, ego, that resists vulnerability. But we can use the charge productively. Sexual fantasies allow us to temporarily relax the ego/self that normally protects us, so we can access states of connection beyond our everyday consciousness.BEST MOMENTS
‘Your first port of call is to tune inwards rather than outwards to your own desire compass’
‘Stories are powerful because a lot of us use stories and escape’
‘Any any sort of charge can be used in a destructive or constructive way’
‘Sometimes freedom means bondage’

ABOUT THE GUEST
Artemisia de Vine was scared of sex, so instead of running from it, she poked it with a stick to see how it works. When we face our fears we transform them. This led to a lifetime of personal and professional sexplorations to understand how the erotic psyche works. She learned from some of the leading erotic pioneers in the world, spent well over a decade as a full-time sex worker and professional dominatrix, and is now an internationally sought after sexpert who mentors elite sex workers, therapists, sex educators and self-discovery seekers how to understand the erotic mind and create tailored experiences based on each person's unique erotic narrative. She has an upcoming book: The Spirituality of Smut: The surprising wisdom of sexual fantasies.

Mon, 04 Mar 2024 - 61 - Healing from Abuse with Jimmi Toro
WARNING – this podcast discusses and describes Jimmi’s experience with ritualistic child abuse.
Dawn is joined by author, music producer and artist Jimmi Toro to talk about his devastating story of child abuse. Jimmi talks about his own abuse and how it impacted him as an adult and how he has managed to heal. He also discusses systematic child abuse in the world, and how to deal with trauma as well his charity work and his book HEAL.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Trauma isn’t so much about what happened to you but the wound it leaves upon you. Child abusers are very good at hiding what they do, they are often master manipulators and hide in plain sight. Most children who are abused are abused by someone they know. Once a child is abused, if they can find safety after in someone who loves them then they can heal. Jimmi had no one to turn to as a child and what happened instead is it stored the abuse inside of him. Not being believed by adults they tell compounds the trauma for children who have been abused. Jimmi was a victim of ritualistic child abuse which included being buried in a coffin alive inside a dead adult body. An unimaginable experience. To heal from abuse, you have to go back and reconcile with each and every experience, and heal from every single time. When Jimmi started his process of healing, he studied and read countless books and research on trauma and healing. Jimmi had repressed memories of his experiences of abuse, they didn’t start coming back to him until he was in his 40’s and it took time for him to start the healing process through talk therapy. Part of the healing process for Jimmi was to name the emotions he felt when remembering the abuse and to then go back and make his younger self feel safe. Sadly it is common that those who have been abused or been through trauma never heal.BEST MOMENTS
“I think we can all agree on the idea of pain and anxiety is a painful experience, an unwanted experience”
“I have a hard time calling them human, they are so far removed from a human being”
“When someone is traumatised, your body goes into a fight or flight mode”
“Humans are good at their evil craft”
“You have to go back to that little you who was abused at the time that you were being abused”
“Many people who are traumatised don’t ever heal”

Thu, 01 Jun 2023 - 60 - Brain Health and Anxiety with Allison Liu
Allison is a brain health coach and an expert in helping women reclaim their mental wellbeing and improve both their energy and their mood. In this episode, Allison shares her journey including discovering the link between brain health and anxiety and gives her thoughts on what she thinks often exacerbates anxiety in the modern world including the media and poor diet.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Many of us don’t learn much about our brain, we are taught very little, particularly around mental health and the link with menopause. Allison began to notice the changes in her brain and mood whilst going through menopause, she felt like she was losing her sense of self and began to have panic attacks. Functional medicine is looking at the whole person and this is an area Allison discovered when looking for help with her symptoms and went on to transform her life. Her own experience meant that Allison decided to train as a health coach specialising in brain health, she wanted to help others in the way she helped herself. Diet has a proven impact on all health including brain health, particularly around dopamine and serotonin production and release. A drop in sugar, a sugar low, is linked to feelings of anxiety so it really can be the case that what you eat impacts your anxiety and your ability to deal with it. Rates of anxiety are the highest they have ever been, pointing to the way we live our lives in the modern world as a cause including diet, media consumption and other lifestyle factors. Diet is more than just food, think about the content you are consuming too including the news and social media.BEST MOMENTS
“We learn more about our heart and our skin but nobody really teaches us about the organ that is our brain”
“People don’t know what they could do for themselves”
“Our food has a very powerful impact on our brain and the neurotransmitters in our brain”
“Whatever we can do to try and keep those blood sugar levels stable actually is really beneficial for somebody if they’re struggling with anxiety”

ABOUT THE GUEST

When she struggled with brain fog, panic attacks and low mood in her early 50s, she felt like she was losing her sense of self. But that all changed when she adopted a holistic approach to her health, which she uses with her clients today. As a result she increased her own ‘brain reserve’, improving her memory, mood and relationships. She now coaches women in their 40s and beyond to achieve the same so that they can handle life’s challenges with ease, face the future with confidence, and fully engage in life at work and at home. For your FREE Burnout E-Book head to Tess’ website https://tessjewelllarsen.coach/freebie/
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Tess has struggled with anxiety since childhood, this was amplified by moving away from home and then back again. Hiking was a great stress reliever and a way Tess would deal with anxiety and her mental health, even though she didn’t realise it at the time. There isn’t just one type of treatment for anxiety, there isn’t even one type of meditation. It’s important that you keep trying to find what works for you even if what you try at first doesn’t work. You have to be ready to work on yourself and your stress and anxiety. Until you recognise your difficulties and ground yourself you won’t be ready to start treatment. 2020 was the most difficult period for Tess’ anxiety, she had a lot of difficult situations to deal with including her husbands' health difficulties. Covid had a devastating impact on so many people, it leaves a lasting legacy of mental health problems including anxiety, largely due to the lack of support during that time as well as so many people feeling they had no control over situations. After experiencing her anxiety crisis in 2020, Tess knew she had to try and take control. She quit her job and put herself fully into her passion of Yoga, studying it in depth and then beginning to teach others. Tess then went on to becoming certified in wellness coaching, she wanted to support others but also used what she learnt to support herself and her own anxiety. This multi-faceted approach to dealing with her anxiety helped Tess realise how much she could transform others lives as well as her own. Tess’ 10-minute method for burnout: Spend 10 minutes of your day and ask yourself, how are you doing, how are you feeling and decide what you need to do today to take 1 step to support yourself.BEST MOMENTS
“Meet yourself where you’re at…focus on grounding yourself first before you start working on those things”
“Anxiety is all about lack of control and being able to control the future and covid was classic on that, none of us knew what was happening day to day let alone year to year”
“I’m gonna teach yoga on the side and focus on me”
“I’m still continuing that dive of learning all of these different techniques and being able to not only support myself with them…and others”
“It seems so little, 10 minutes, but when you do them all the time every single day you actually spend a lot more time for yourself”

Wed, 26 Apr 2023 - 58 - Challenge Your Fears, Combat Anxiety and Change Your Life with Anine Ekelund
Anine Ekelund is a public speaker, consultant and life coach with over 20 years of experience. Anine has founded multiple support networks, ran and created various leadership workshops at fortune 100 companies and most recently,
Anine talks Dawn about the unique and proven ways she has eliminated her anxiety and they also discuss the physiological and psychological symptoms anxiety presents and what they can often mean for us as individuals.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Anine started to experience anxiety in small ways as a child, often freezing in situations where she felt fearful or under pressure, such as performing or at school. Part of the reason Anine followed her career path, into a role with a lot of public speaking, was to face her fears. It did help but she still hadn’t addressed the underlying problem, of what was causing her anxiety. To live life to the fullest we have to keep pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones and this means facing our fears. Our body can respond physically when we are not aligned or if we are doing something that we feel we aren’t capable of. Our learnt limiting beliefs, rules and expectations can impact us unconsciously. When we feel anxiety, we need to be curious about it, it’s our body and brain trying to tell us something. Anine made a conscious decision to no longer live in fear and live authentically and this is when her anxiety began to reduce.BEST MOMENTS
“Everyone has experienced anxiety at some point in their lives, whether it’s small little bits or big traumatic ones”
“I don’t like to feel fearful, I like to feel strong”
“Feel the fear and do it anyway”
“I have to challenge my fear all the time, to live life to the fullest”
“It’s really about being curious when anxiety shows up because there’s a message there”
“I became so transformed when I found my purpose”

Wed, 05 Apr 2023 - 57 - Is Your Career leaving You Anxious or Stressed? Interview With Matias
Is your career leaving you anxious, stressed and drained? Dawn had this exact problem in her past career and is joined in this episode by Matias Bichara who has had the same difficulties.
Matias opens up to Dawn about the difficulties and challenges of becoming and practising as a lawyer and how the culture of the industry creates stress and anxiety for many. He sincerely talks about when he realised he could no longer practice law and how he came to recognise that coaching was always what he was meant to do.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Fear, punishment and embarrassment is not a good way to motivate people, yet this is the culture in teaching and practising law. It’s motivation through fear. The anxiety and stress Matias felt even at the beginning of his career as a lawyer had a negative impact on his well-being as well as how well he performed. When we are fearful, we shut down, it is a natural response. Yet so many leaders do not understand this. Law isn’t the only industry where fear is used by leadership, it’s a toxic method that is found in many industries, it is passed down from manager to manager and therefore their teams too. Individuals can be made to feel like anything worth doing is supposed to be difficult, hard and stressful. Gaining an outside perspective on this is the only way out and this is was Matias did and he now helps others discover the same. Choosing to give up your day job to pursue your real passion can be a difficult decision. Dawn usually recommends that you wait until you are making the same as your day job before you quit unless your current day job is too toxic to wait. It’s not always a person’s career that needs to change. Sometimes it’s just the position or even just difficult conversations that need to be had.BEST MOMENTS
“You always have to be extra prepared, there’s no room for mistakes”
“People learn to avoid a specific behaviour rather than engage in a new one”
“If your entire life is driven by feat then you are going to collapse”
“I quit my job and then I started to look at what things would fulfil me”
“In reality, I work with anybody who doesn’t like their job”

Wed, 29 Mar 2023 - 56 - How to Stop People Pleasing and Become Present with Kamini Wood
Kamini Wood is a certified coach who helps people take the courageous steps needed to identify their limiting beliefs, and the reasons behind their stagnation or low self-esteem, so they can have what they want professionally and personally to live a fulfilled life.
Kamini joins Dawn to talk about her own experiences with anxiety and their causes, what this taught her as a person and what we can all learn and gain from anxiety and feelings of inadequacy.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
As a child Kamini struggled to fit in as she felt and looked different, this alongside not wanting to feel a burden to her hard-working parents meant that she learnt perfectionist tendencies and to people please; a recipe for anxiety. Witnessing her children presenting perfectionist tendencies was a catalyst for change in Kamini’s own way of dealing with things. Finding your limiting beliefs and recognising false narratives are the first steps to begin living your best life, this is something Kamini taught herself and now teaches others too. Society, culture, families and our own personalities all have an impact in founding and building our belief and value systems, especially about ourselves. Putting boundaries in place is essential if you want to transform yourself as a people pleaser. Not everyone will be happy with you doing this as they were benefitting from your lack of boundaries. We can’t eliminate all anxiety and some forms of anxiety actually keep us safe and can be helpful. It’s about recognising when anxiety is unhelpful and how to overcome it when it’s not serving you that’s important. Instead of trying to get rid of your anxiety, be curious about it and figure out what it is trying to tell you. Life isn’t always easy, it’s the extremes of life, feelings and emotions that allow us to appreciate the good times. You can’t have love, for example, without pain. The core belief of not being good enough can affect and impact anyone, it just presents in different ways. Being present in the moment, the here and now, is one of the biggest gifts you can give to yourself and those around you.BEST MOMENTS
“The stories that I internalised is that I needed to please others and do for others in order to prove my worth”
“Through obstacle can come opportunity, so through anxiety, what is the opportunity?”
“The human experience is about all the ups and down”
“One of the elements of self-compassion is mindfulness, it’s about being in the present moment”

Thu, 23 Mar 2023 - 55 - Stepping Outside of Your Comfort Zone with Lucia Di Marco
Lucia has worked internationally, driven by a life of meaning and connection with a mission to empower her clients to rethink what is possible, helping them unleash their purpose to build a meaningful and fulfilling career. She joins Dawn in this episode to talk all about her mission, her own journey with anxiety as well as tips and techniques to finding your purpose and living a fulfilled life.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Lucia’s experience of anxiety is that it shows up when she is trying to make changes in her life. Anxiety is like an internal alarm system in all of us, triggered by our emotions, feelings and personal experiences. It can be helpful, but it can also sabotage us. If we want to move forward, progress and evolve in our lives then we have to take risks. If you are struggling with negative self-talk, then speaking with others and seeking help can help as you can express how you’re feeling and bring these thoughts out into the open. Always try and do something each day that pushes you out of your comfort zone. This way it becomes a habit, you then learn to always learn and adapt and ignore that unhelpful voice of anxiety. Lucia helps women find their purpose and unleash their potential surrounding it. Problem-solving and creativity are the keys to unlocking your potential, they are also skills that can help manage anxiety. It takes a lot of action, effort and will to recognise and work towards where you should be in life. It can feel overwhelming but that doesn’t make it impossible and we all deserve to be fulfilled and happy.BEST MOMENTS
“It’s the internal alarms going off, it’s that movement of emotions and feelings”
“The voice is always there but sometimes it can be overwhelming”
“Do something every day that makes you uncomfortable, that pushes the limit in one area of your life”
“I help women do the same because I know what it’s like to not let your life purpose come to the world”
“When you realise you’re not where you need to be, getting where you need to be is a lot of work”

Thu, 02 Mar 2023 - 52 - Childhood Programming
We all received a form of ‘programming’ as a child. In this episode, Dawn explores this concept and the impact it can have on us in adulthood, particularly in shaping our identities, values and beliefs.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
We can hold onto things we were told and around as children for our whole lives. Different rules we learn as children follow us into adulthood and help us form our beliefs and value systems. Children can take certain roles in family dynamics in order to get their needs met and to feel like they belong. We can pass on our own trauma and conditioning from programming if we don’t recognise it and are prepared to break the ‘generational chain’. What rules did you take on as a child based on what was said about you, to you and what was expected of you? Are they serving you or hindering you in your adult life?BEST MOMENTS
“All routines, even little ones, create beliefs”
“Children will do all they can to belong”
“Is that persona serving you in all areas of life?”

Thu, 23 Feb 2023 - 51 - Is Motivation the Key to Overcoming Anxiety?
Join Dawn as she talks about the importance of motivation, particularly when it comes to overcoming anxiety. Dawn gives tips and ideas to motivate yourself when you are struggling and outlines things you can do to use motivation to combat your anxiety too.
Link to download your free report on The 7 Best Motivational Apps That Help You Stick to Your Goals
https://findingfreedom.academy/motivateapps
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Motivation is the thing that causes us to act, to focus on our goals and achieve the things we want to. Motivation can be fickle, some days we have it and can achieve so much, other days we feel like we have no energy. Anxiety can remove our energy and motivation and leave us feeling powerless and helpless but motivation is what we need to combat our anxiety. Motivation allows us to stay focused and this can be particularly helpful when we are struggling with anxiety as it can prevent us getting caught up in our distracting thoughts. Resilience can be built upon motivation, allowing us to persevere through difficult times, including anxiety. Have a clear vision on what you want and make achievable goals, then break it down into manageable steps. This gives you focus as well as prevent overwhelm. Find your ‘why’, this can remotivate you when you are struggling with taking action.BEST MOMENTS
“It keeps us moving forward when things get challenging”
“When we are motivated, we have a clear idea of what we need to do to achieve”
“Motivation gives us the energy we need to take action”
“You want to set achievable goals, it can be a great way to stay motivated”

Thu, 16 Feb 2023 - 50 - Why Joining a Club Can Help Your Anxiety
Help from others, and engaging with others, is an incredible way we can combat the anxiety that can often keep us stuck. In this episode, Dawn talks about why you should try and step out of your comfort zone and join a group and the different ways this can help with your anxiety.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
When anxiety has been part of your life, certain situations can feel bigger and harder than they actually are. Staying within your comfort zone can be easy and safe, but it’s not how we can live our best lives. Everyone wants to be liked but it isn’t the most important thing and certainly not important enough to change who you are. You can join a group and just leave if you don’t like it. It’s not the big commitment you are building in your mind. When we venture into the unknown, our anxiety voice will be shouting at us, but we can be ready for this and push past it.BEST MOMENTS
“You have taken the leap to go out there, to be seen and leave the anxiety that has perhaps stopped you from doing so”
“People fear change”
“You are just as worthy, just as valued as anyone else on this planet”
“Nothing ventured, nothing gained”

Thu, 09 Feb 2023 - 49 - What We Choose to Believe
The way we receive and intake information has changed significantly in recent years, we no longer just receive it from trusted and reliable sources and the truth can often be twisted and biased. In this episode, Dawn talks about what we choose to believe and how the way information is presented to us reinforces both bias and half-truths. Dawn also talks about how anxiety is often misrepresented and why this can do a disservice to those suffering from it.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Most of the information we take in now is not only biased but rooted in opinion rather than facts. Often as individuals, we aren’t proactive enough to research the information presented to us, we take it at face value. Everyone sees things differently, everyone has their own opinions and things they believe to be true. We create beliefs from what we experience and see around us. Anxiety is one of those things that people can dispute, in terms of what it is, how it is overcome and more.BEST MOMENTS
“Truth is flawed”
“We do not search out the opposing opinions because we like to stay in what we know”
“You can find support for almost anything and opinions are often disguised as truth”
“I believe and know that debilitating anxiety can be overcome”

Thu, 02 Feb 2023 - 48 - Combating Anxiety in Relationships with Justin and Cresta Burt of Deviation by Design
In this episode, Dawn is joined by relationship experts Justin and Cresta Burt. They discuss the role of anxiety in relationships and what can be done to live a happier life with more fulfilling relationships.
Justin and Cresta have been experts in learning what it takes to make a relationship truly work and after years of having dysfunctional and unhealthy relationships themselves, Justin and Cresta founded an intentional marriage programme to help others live their happily ever after too.
Exclusive for Overcoming Anxiety Listeners: FREE Transformation call with deviation by design: https://deviationbydesign.com/book-in-a-call/
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Justin and Cresta’s background is in law enforcement, they had to deal with anxiety throughout their entire careers, often taking it home with them. Justin realised the anxiety from his career was affecting who he was, it was then he chose to find outlets to help release this anxiety and stress. After the trauma of a colleague being shot at 9 times, Cresta was diagnosed with complex PTSD. One of the difficulties with dealing with anxiety is when others don’t fully understand it or invalidate your personal experiences. It’s important to communicate early on in situations, little things can become big things and resentment can build. It’s worth some short-term discomfort to stop things from becoming larger than they are. So often we as humans focus on things that are wrong and build them to be bigger than they are but if we instead try and understand that everyone sees the world differently, we can begin to communicate more effectively with others and create less conflict. Coaching helped Justin realise how to be the best version of himself, for his kids, as a husband and partner. He uses his experience along with Cresta’s to help others. Whatever you do, do it intentionally, make it conscious. When your partner is struggling with anxiety, be there to be their support. Exclusive for Overcoming Anxiety Listeners: FREE Transformation call with deviation by design: https://deviationbydesign.com/book-in-a-call/BEST MOMENTS
“The best thing I did was find an outlet for it, something to help you release”
“To handle your anxiety in the moment, it was a natural response”
“I didn’t think I had problems with anxiety until I stopped sleeping”
“Anxiety is about what could happen”
“That short-term discomfort is a whole lot smaller than letting that situation fester”
“We call it teamwork; it’s not compromise it’s teamwork”
“It's always better to have a coach that has been through what you’re going through”

“We are Justin and Cresta! We both come from previous relationships where we longed for true intimacy and communication with our partners. We did everything in our power to try and fix our situations, but nothing worked. The pain of the struggle made us feel horrible, lonely, scared, and hopeless.
We took matters into our own hands – Justin, through his path of coaching and self-study, and Cresta, through her path of self-discovery – and discovered ways to overcome these obstacles.
So, we have been where you are. We know the pain and struggles you are facing. But the best part, we know we can help you. We can help you strengthen your relationship through intimacy, communication, and good old fashion work! Yes, that is correct, it will take some work on your part. But after eight weeks, you will be in the best position for your relationship to flourish, better than you can even imagine.
We will be giving you the tools it took us years to find and even more years to refine to a point that could be shared with others. We both come from backgrounds of helping people, namely in law enforcement, and want to make a difference beyond ourselves.
Let us show you how to have an Intentional Marriage; a Deviation By Design.”

Thu, 26 Jan 2023 - 47 - Combating Limiting Beliefs with Louisa Valentin
Louisa Valentin is a nurse, wellness coach and business co-founder. Louisa empowers women to find their strength to achieve their optimal strength in both mental and physical health, combining her experience and knowledge in both physical fitness and mental health and coaching.
She joins Dawn in this episode to talk about her story of overcoming the many daily struggles in her life, including anxiety. She also discusses the work she does with others to help them recognise that health is wealth, in all areas of your life.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
As a child, Louisa was quite a people pleaser. This put pressure on her but she would deal with the pressure and anxiety and this carried into her adult life and relationships. Our bodies send us messages when we are struggling but all too often these are ignored, this is when we can start to break down, physically and mentally. We can inherit limiting beliefs from our childhood and these can cause us so much mental instability and difficulty, including showing up as anxiety. If we hold onto our limiting beliefs then we can’t be our full selves. You aren’t accountable for everyone else’s happiness. We often create our own anxiety by creating non-existent rules for ourselves to follow. Louisa believes that looking after your physical health directly impacts your mental health, mindset and spirituality too. You can’t give to others from an ‘empty cup’ you have to prioritise yourself and your well-being first before you can help other people. As people we have to unlearn past habits and behaviours, things that we relied on when we were children will not serve us as adults. If you need help and support, ask for it. It’s not shameful.BEST MOMENTS
“Louisa helps people combat negative self-talk to help them become a healthier version of themselves”
“As a human, we are a mixture of so many different things, thousands of different identities and if we hold onto something so firmly it doesn’t allow the other parts of us show through”
“If my body is strong, it is ready to combat anything”
“Trust the universe, trust that things are going to work out the way they’re meant to”

Thu, 05 Jan 2023 - 45 - Coaching Yourself Out of Anxiety with Miquette Dobros
Miquette Dobros is a coach, health professional and healer. She also founded Elevate Online Today. She joins Dawn to talk about her lifelong struggles with anxiety, how she managed to combat it and how she helps others do the same.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Miquette recalls struggling with anxiety from as young as 5. It contributed to her lack of confidence and although she did see therapists, all that seemed to do was confirm that she felt different to everyone else. Working in the male-dominated world of sales wasn’t always easy for Miquette, it brought up her old feelings of rejection, failure and a lot of fear. But, she worked with her inner voice and combatted these feelings internally. These were the beginnings of Miquette’s own sales method, later she became a top performer and taught others her method before eventually incorporating it into her mentor and coaching training. We all have self-esteem and confidence, we often just need to find ways to access and uncover it. Neuroscience has proven that we have three main ‘brains’, in the head, the heart and the gut and they are all communicating with one another. With anxiety, most people recognise their feelings and actions aren’t logical. So once the individual suffering from anxiety can learn how to deal with this they can move forward. Head to https://miquettecoaching.com/ for a no-obligation assessment with Miquette. Put a toolbox of anxiety-helping methods together for yourself.BEST MOMENTS

Thu, 15 Dec 2022 - 44 - Combating Anxiety with Self-Worth: Speaking with Coach Kshama Singhi
Kshama is a Certified Happiness & Empowerment Coach. She joins Dawn in this episode to talk about the work she does with professional women as well as her own experiences with anxiety and how she overcame them.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
As humans, we easily imagine the worst scenarios in our heads which can be a big source of anxiety. When Kshama got married, she felt like she couldn’t be her true self. She was trying to be who both her husband and society wanted her to be, rather than living true to herself. Even if a person has good parenting, a child can still interpret things negatively and this can impact their view of the world. There’s not always a correlation between parenting and who children become. Kshama felt anxious and stressed throughout her entire marriage. In hindsight, she can see it affected her physical and mental well-being as well as her relationships. If people were taught more awareness about anxiety and self-awareness, a lot of pain, trauma and mental health issues could be avoided. We have to be aware of how we talk to our children, we can easily pass on our own anxieties and fears to them. When things go wrong, if we have low self-worth, we then blame ourselves. Journaling can be a really helpful way to release your emotions and thoughts. It can then help you see your life more clearly and what you can do to change things. When you are feeling anxious, this is the world's way of telling you that you need to address something.BEST MOMENTS
“A lot of anxieties are coming from the fact we don’t think we’re self-worthy”
“I’m the freest I have ever been in my life”
“We all have these limiting beliefs we picked up through our childhood”
“It’s no longer anxiety anymore, you feel powerful to deal with the situation”

Thu, 08 Dec 2022 - 43 - Identifying the Root Cause of Anxiety and Trauma with the Wild Wise Women Azzah Manukova
Azzah has spent years dedicating her time to helping and educating young boys and girls escape slavery and rebuild their lives. She runs retreats, conferences and also works with corporate clients. Often described as the wise wild woman, Azzah is passionate about personal development and self-discovery.
Azzah joins Dawn to talk all about the role of trauma in anxiety and our lives. They discuss why the modern world sets us up for anxiety as well as ways we can cope with it. Azzah also shares her own stories and journey through anxiety and trauma.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Growing up with her mother’s generational trauma around her, Azzah began to respond and deal with her mother's anxiety as a young child. At a young age, she began looking internally and this was the start of her journey to personal discovery. Anxiety is an energy that a lot of the time, is manufactured through your thinking. Is this real? This is a question to ask yourself when you begin to feel overwhelmed by anxiety. This can allow you to ground yourself and be conscious about your thinking and situation. You have anxiety, you are not anxiety. You have fear, you aren’t fear. Anxiety doesn’t have to be who you are as a person As children, we have an innate feeling to belong and we find our place in the family unit. This can cause us to develop unhelpful behaviours as children that follow us into adulthood. We are all flawed, this is what makes us human. We have to recognise this and reframe our faults and difficulties.BEST MOMENTS
“I’m investigating what is in the way, because the reality is, I am free”
“I put my attention onto my feet and away from the fantasy that’s going on in my brain”
“[Anxiety] is an experience, it’s not who we are”
“Let’s start with the premise that you’re not broken”

Thu, 01 Dec 2022 - 42 - How Writing Helped Me Manage my Anxiety - Interview with Larissa Soehn
Larissa is a well-established author with works ranging from science fiction to self-help. She is the founder of Next Page Wellness Coaching, where she helps people write, edit, market and publish their own books.
Larissa joins Dawn in this episode to explore her personal experiences with anxiety and burnout. She also talks about how writing helped her heal and why her mission in life is to help others overcome the difficulties life sometimes presents to us.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Larissa has experienced anxiety since childhood but it wasn’t until she was an adult that she got diagnosed with anxiety. Giving it a name meant she could start to try and treat it. There is almost always a lightbulb moment or something that triggers the idea that things could be different that allows people to seek help with their anxiety. For Larissa, it was after having children that her anxiety became unbearable. Larissa had to take leave from work, she started therapy and taking medication to help. It was then she discovered creative writing. writing gave her something outside of herself to focus on. Whilst writing, Larissa started doing internal work on herself. Alongside her therapy and medication, this allowed her to change the way she thought and help combat her anxiety. Anxiety makes us believe we have limited options and choices but this is a lie. We have a choice in almost anything we do. Often anxiety is something that is with your for life, but you can learn to manage it better and live a more fulfilled and happy life. Our beliefs and fear of failure often come from childhood. The school system in particular teaches us that we can be wrong about almost anything and for many, this can begin the anxiety cycle. Having a support structure is invaluable to cope with anxiety. Sometimes we need a safe space, a person or people that understand and know what support to give us. To help and support others, we have to acknowledge their state. We can’t just offer a solution or simply tell them to be positive.BEST MOMENTS
“I remember feeling like this as a child but never having a name for it”
“The problems don’t go away, they just change”
“Choice is an incredibly powerful thing”
“The fear response switches off the thinking brain, the logical brain”

Thu, 24 Nov 2022 - 41 - What is Freedom ?
There is always a lot of talk about freedom in the world of coaching, but what does this actually mean? In this episode, Dawn explores her own definition of freedom and what she looks to achieve for her clients.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Dawn aims to help people free themselves from anxiety and live the lives they are destined to live. Freedom is a principle, not a single set of beliefs or rules. Our personal beliefs can have a powerful impact on our unconscious and therefore, our anxiety. If we blindly stick to the rules we have created that don’t serve us, this prevents us from the freedom we should be feeling and living. Freedom to Dawn is being able to be whom she wants to be and letting go of limiting beliefs.BEST MOMENTS
“Our unconscious minds don’t need our conscious permission to do what they do”
“What rules, labels or beliefs are you holding onto?”
“Freedom is about making my own choices, about what I think and feel, what I let in”

Barbara talks through her own experiences of trauma and anxiety and how she has managed to deal with these in varying stages of her life. She also talks about the importance of recognising the differences in culture when coaching using her expertise in Interculture.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
During Covid Barabara started to learn more about neuroscience and coaching, she came across a module about dysregulation, which made her realise she had unresolved trauma and anxiety that she hadn’t dealt with. Barbara discovered she had been living in a stressed and anxious state for most of her adult life, she knew she needed to tackle this. After becoming physically ill, Barbara had to have a variety of different surgeries which left her with trauma. Barbara is passionate about forming groups and communities post coaching and therapy, to continue to help people throughout their journey. It’s ok to have down days, this is allowed. Those who have dealt with anxiety and trauma may need to remind themselves of this. Having a safe space to speak with others who truly understand is invaluable in healing. When Barbara is struggling with flashbacks to her trauma, she has a variety of tools to shield herself.BEST MOMENTS
“What really brought it into focus for me was covid”
“You’re always on the go and always in an anxious space not realising how stressed you are all the time”

ABOUT THE GUEST
Barbara StClaire-Ostwald, MA, BSc (Hons) Master Executive Coach, Interculturalist, expert in Trauma Sensitive Coaching and Neuroscience, works with and supports individuals and groups around the World who have been impacted by trauma. By incorporating Trauma Sensitive Practices in their lives her clients learn to let go of the past, avoid getting caught up in worries about the future and experience much deeper connections with others and themselves, so they can live a more regulated, stress-free life.
She has had an interesting career working with International Diplomats, Financial Services i.e. Investment Banking and Asset Management including IFI’s, the UK Civil Service and Government. Barbara has been self-employed as an Interculturalist and Coach since 2005 after graduating from Oxford Brookes University with an MA in Coaching & Mentoring Practices; a former Board Member of APECS (Association for Professional Executive Coaching & Supervision) as International Director, ED&I. In these roles as coach, mentor and supervisor she has promoted sustainability, inclusiveness and safe spaces, supporting her clients through social pressures on decision making and utilising tools such as embodied self-awareness.
Her practice in the field of Trauma Sensitive Coaching and Neuroscience, in which she has been studying and working for some years now, lie deep within her own personal lived experiences of trauma and PTSD including the conditions which have arisen and played a fundamental role in this.
What we can learn from Barbara, a Master Executive Coach & Supervisor, Interculturalist and expert in Trauma Sensitive Coaching and Neuroscience….?
In order for us to learn how to heal and transform our body and our mind, we need a regulated nervous system. Trauma impacts our autonomic nervous system which is in charge of our basic survival stratagems such as our ‘flight, fight, freeze’ survival strategies. Many research articles on stress tell us that stressors have a major influence upon mood, our sense of well-being, behaviour, and health and that unchecked, stress can take a toll on our physiological and psychological conditions which can surface at any point in our lives.
I am developing a new programme to support trauma sufferers like myself, to shift from a dysregulated to a more regulated state of being helping them to let go of the past, to heal their mind and their body and enhance their quality of life.”ABOUT THE HOST

Thu, 10 Nov 2022 - 39 - Alcohol and Anxiety: speaking with Molly Desch
Molly Desch is a certified life coach and has developed the alcohol-free foundation programme to help others after her own struggles with drinking. Molly joins Dawn in this episode to share her personal journey and why she is now passionate about helping others to overcome their problems, particularly around drinking and learning better ways to cope with the stresses of life. Dawn and Molly also explore society's impact on problem drinking and its strong links with anxiety.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Molly struggled with alcohol as a working mother, she used it to help her de-stress and that resulted in her drinking heavily every day as a crutch to deal with life. Although many people use alcohol to relax it actually increases anxiety chemically in the brain. After going through a divorce, Molly’s alcoholism accelerated, her behaviour felt out of control and she found herself depressed and suicidal. She knew something had to change. Molly started to get sober by attending AA meetings. She found the beginning of recovery quite simple, helped in some ways by the Covid pandemic. In the second year of giving up alcohol, she relapsed which made her realise she didn’t have the underlying structure to live sober. This is what led to her becoming a coach as well as learning how to build a solid foundation to aid her in living sober. It’s so easy to fall into old habits, traits and coping mechanisms. Until you work on the reasons behind what you are struggling with and learn new ways to deal with your problems you will inevitably slip back into old ways. Being self-aware and talking to yourself in times of stress means that you are reprogramming your subconscious, it’s incredibly powerful.BEST MOMENTS
“For many years of my adult life, I was a very heavy drinker”
“It [alcohol] becomes a crutch”
“It’s not enough to say I’m going to quit drinking, you have to evaluate your coping mechanisms and build a foundation”
“By talking to yourself your sub-conscious mind is always listening”

Thu, 27 Oct 2022 - 38 - How Do We Create Our Reality?
In this episode of Overcoming Anxiety, Dawn explores how we create our own reality with the conscious, unconscious and subconscious mind. Discover how we perceive, span and define our own reality by the things we focus on in different moments.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- We only notice between five and nine things in any one moment. That's our conscious mind, so by definition, we are not noticing a whole host of other things that are going on around us.
- If we are focused on something like a car or a house or a new pair of shoes, that is when we start noticing that what we’re focusing on gets bigger, gets more important and comes into our line of sight, it's there in our thoughts.- Whilst our conscious mind only sees between five or nine things at any one time, our unconscious mind sees and notices everything. Our subconscious mind is scanning for things that might be dangerous to us.
Remember your feelings and your feeling state in any one moment doesn't define who you are. It's your conscious, unconscious mind pulling up a whole lot of stuff from the past.
BEST MOMENTS
“Why are there so many different interpretations of what is being seen?”
“When we focus on five to nine we then see them more clearly.”
“Our deductions of a situation will be different to someone else who was seeing a different five to nine
other things at the same moment.”
“It’s useful to understand what others may be focusing on in our everyday encounters.”

In this episode, Dawn talks about change, why it’s so difficult to do and also what causes us to be so anxious and resistant to change in the first place. She explores why our anxiety and fear can be restrictive and how we can overcome them too.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
The beliefs, expectations and rules we learn as we grow as people create a restriction on our lives. Our minds do not like change, which is why the idea of change can be frightening. But regardless, if we want to change we can and we have to push through this fear and experience some discomfort. Ask yourself simply, is the fear you are feeling justified? If not, what is stopping you? Anxiety often shows up when there are a lot of ‘unknowns’. If you can reduce your unknowns this can help you deal with your anxiety. Fear and excitement feel very similar, try and trick your fear and anxiety into affirmations and feeling excited!BEST MOMENTS
“We are born, we are not born with confidence issues”
“Our unconscious mind doesn’t like new things; it likes what is familiar so it’s going to throw up some fear”
“Your logical brain knows that change is necessary”
“The danger is created in your head, around the things you[‘re going to do…but you know it’s not real”

Join Dawn as she talks about one of her success stories with a woman called Pam whom she interviewed on episode 6 of the podcast. Dawn worked with Pam to overcome her anxiety after a traumatic event and in this episode explores the power of taking that first step, or the next step, in overcoming anxiety.
Pam’s Interview on episode 6 of the Overcoming Anxiety Podcast.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
It’s incredible that Pam has got her life back and has managed to go on to do the things her anxiety held her back from doing but it has also had an incredibly positive impact on her family. By focusing on the next step, Pam and others suffering from anxiety can focus on what needs to happen next. But it’s important to also recognise how far they have come too. We have to remind ourselves and recognise our achievements and the positives, this is how we continue to move forward. Anything you have overcome in the past started with that first step.BEST MOMENTS

Wed, 05 Oct 2022 - 35 - Judgement and its Impact on Anxiety
Society seems to constantly criticise and judge people for things that are none of their business. Join Dawn in this episode where Dawn talks about judgement in the media and explores the wide-ranging impact this has on us, particularly our anxiety.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
There have been a lot of opinions and judgements in the media after the death of the Queen. Many of these appear to be alarmist and is designed to simply push buttons. People who are listening to these judgements and negativity can easily take them on themselves as an individual. It can creep into our everyday lives causing anxiety. People are allowed to have private lives regardless of who they are and what they do. Much anxiety that people suffer from and feel, is to do with how they are perceived by others.BEST MOMENTS
“There’s a tendency to say stuff just because you can, not because you’re trying to make a point”
“How many people sit there and worry constantly about how we are going to be received by others, what others may think?”
“It gives a very skewed view of the world, that everyone is watching every slight thing we do”

Wed, 21 Sep 2022 - 34 - It’s Never Too Late To Be You: Tackling Anxiety as a Transgendered Woman – Speaking with Tawni Sofia Acosta
Tawni is a certified hypnotherapist, author, volunteer and advocate within the LGBTQ community. Before her current career, she worked for 20 years as an engineer specialising in the TV entertainment industry. Her current passion as a therapist is to help those in the LBGTQ community in overcoming the many high barriers that exist. Her advocacy and career are focused on empowering individuals to continue their paths of authenticity while finding holistic ways to overcome their challenges.
Dawn and Tawni discuss Tawni’s own story with anxiety including her difficulties with her personal identity as well as how she helps others.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Tawni is a transgendered woman and recognises that a lot of the source of her anxiety was due to not accepting who she truly is for a lot of her life. Carving out your own path can be scary, there is a lot of fear around making decisions for yourself. Living in an identity that isn’t truly yourself, is a quite common human experience. So many individuals aren’t living their true lives or their true selves because of societal pressures as well as those imposed on us by our families or religion. Sometimes people come into our lives at a time when we might need them. But not everyone is meant to be in our lives forever, we have to learn to let relationships go. Whilst going through her gender transition, the rest of Tawni’s life transitioned too, from her career to her finances. When trying to find yourself, it’s important to have a solid support network to help you. This can be close friends, family or even a therapist. Hypnotherapy is something that had such a significant impact on Tawni, that she knew she needed to share it with others. This is where she has found her purpose.BEST MOMENTS
“All that denial, caused tremendous pain and suffering”
“The joy of being yourself is phenomenal”
"Whatever challenge, whatever difficulty you have to go through to be yourself, it’s totally worth it”
“The act of learning is such a humble thing, but it is also an amazing thing”

Thu, 08 Sep 2022 - 33 - Breaking the Cycles of Anxiety – Speaking with Gina Nelson
Gina has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 2 decades and has spent the past 25 years of her career helping individuals and families learn to adapt and cope with difficult life transitions.
She joins Dawn in this episode to talk about her journey to becoming a therapist, what high functioning anxiety looks like and how we can work to beat the cycles of anxiety in both ourselves and others.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
When a cascade of things that Gina couldn’t control occurred, she realised she had been suffering from high functioning anxiety most of her life. When Gina started recognising her anxiety and allowing herself to be more honest and vulnerable with her family, she found that her family’s stress and anxiety started to reduce. After working with older clients, Gina started to wonder if she could start to work with teens, so she could stop cycles of anxieties before they take hold. This led to her creating the Combating Teen Anxiety programme. Fear of failure, even in young people, can be a massive contributor to anxiety and mood regulation, often then feeding into overwhelm. When individuals have negative beliefs about themselves, they often look to their environment to validate these feelings. Creating a vicious cycle. Parents need to look at their own mental health and difficulties, trying to work on these to ensure the behaviours aren’t modelled by their children. From a young age, open communication with our children builds trust and prevents a lot of shame and anxiety from being internalised.BEST MOMENTS
“As long as you keep getting on with stuff and as long as you keep getting on with stuff it’s like it [anxiety] doesn’t exist”
“I started to recognise that I can’t control everything”
“As humans, we’re far more than just a few labels”

Wed, 31 Aug 2022 - 32 - Overthinking
Overthinking is something most of us do and in this episode, Dawn explores why this is, when it’s unhelpful and how we can deal with it when it begins to cause us anxiety.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
There can be many triggers to overthinking, but for many, it is triggered when we get something wrong. Life is full of times when we get things wrong, we can’t stop this but what we can do is reframe it and learn to let go, of the shame, the embarrassment, and the anxiety. Don’t let overthinking win and make your life smaller.BEST MOMENTS
“We’re all human, sometimes we will mess up”
“The most important lesson is not to stop experimenting, not stop exploring, not to stop going outside of your comfort zone”

Thu, 25 Aug 2022 - 31 - Can You Always Recognise Your Anxiety?
Dawn has been decluttering and organising her home and it made her think about the impact the lack of organisation had been having on her anxiety. It reminded her that sometimes we don’t always realise that anxiety is showing up. Listen into this episode to hear her journey to realisation and why decluttering and organisation can help relieve your own anxiety.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
After moving, Dawn realised that a lot of the things she had accumulated she didn’t need. Dawn didn’t realise at the time, but she was experiencing anxiety around the lack of organisation in her new home. Sometimes our brains punish us if we aren’t productive enough, even when they aren’t important tasks. There are debates and opinions about absolutely everything in life, we innately want answers and want to learn but sometimes it’s not helpful and it’s ok to just let things be as they are. Decluttering any space can bring you a sense of calm and relieve your anxiety.BEST MOMENTS
“I just felt this wave of relaxation come over me”
“The dialogue in my head has a heated argument with itself…my mind was arguing both sides”
“Having a really peaceful living space is a good thing”

Wed, 17 Aug 2022 - 30 - Emerging from Covid
What has changed in our lives, what have we let go of? Do we even want things to be the same as before? Dawn discusses these questions and more about life after covid.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
We experience life changing all the time, through different decades and also through things such as moving house or changing job. The difference with covid is the pace at which things changed; it was all incredibly fast. Change can bring with it a sense of not being in control, a sense of uncertainty. Both of which can end up in feelings of anxiety. People have adapted to a new way of life, they found different ways to spend their time, focusing on things they could do rather than the things we were restricted.BEST MOMENTS
“We can choose to embrace the change, or we can wallow in the difficulty it brings”
“I learnt to adapt to a new way of living, my priority shifted to other things”
“Have we become more self-sufficient, mode media based, more insular?”

Thu, 11 Aug 2022 - 29 - Is Your Fear of Making the Wrong Choice Holding You Back?
We all have choices to face in life, for those living with anxiety, these choices and decisions can be a real challenge. In this episode Dawn talks about why this is and what we can do to help combat these difficulties.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Anxiety is all about the what ifs, often over ‘risking’ situations, therefore making choices and decisions can be difficult. Almost everything we do in life carries risk, it’s simply not possible to remove or mitigate all risk. We can spend hours, days or even weeks procrastinating on decisions and choices, the fear of making the wrong choice prevents us from moving forward. Fill your life up with things you are passionate about. Create a list of things you want to and enjoy doing and choose something each day. Don’t overthink the decision and choice, just do it.BEST MOMENTS
“There is risk in almost everything we do”
“The fear of making the wrong choice keeps us stuck”
“We can waste so much time doing nothing productive”

Thu, 04 Aug 2022 - 28 - Workplace Anxiety
Anxiety can show up in many situations and starting a new job can be a common one. In this episode Dawn gives examples from her own work life where anxiety has impacted her as well as the business she has worked for. She also talks about the causes behind workplace anxiety and what you can do as an individual to tackle it.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Experience and skill don’t necessarily help when trying to navigate a new job role. Each team and company are different and this can present anxiety when starting somewhere new. Many problems in the workplace start because of a lack of understanding when it comes to expectations, this in itself can be a root cause of anxiety. We all know that feelings aren’t helpful when it comes to decisions and life planning. Unfortunately high levels anxiety can take over logic and impact the way we behave at work. When suffering with anxiety at work, see if you can pinpoint the root cause and if you can, what can you do to change things? You can’t help thinking, it’s part of being human. But what we can do is ensure we talk to ourselves with positivity.BEST MOMENTS
“It’s only the well seasoned employer that will realise there is a time period for settling in”
“Any good leader will never rely on rank or superiority to get things done”
“No one or no thing can make you feel a particular way, only you can do that”

Thu, 28 Jul 2022 - 27 - Do You Put Others First ?
Are you sharing your wisdom, knowledge, and compassion with yourself just as much as you do with others? In this episode, Dawn explores the act of putting others first and what impact this can have on a persons self-esteem, confidence and levels of anxiety.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Many of us are taught that there is a hierarchy of importance when it comes to people. This can lead to us putting other people’s needs ahead of our own consistently throughout life. These expectations become so engrained in us that we subconsciously revert to them, particularly in times of difficulty. So much stress and anxiety can come from the internal conflict, between our instinct of wanting to care for others -vs- doing the right thing for ourselves. If you find yourself using the words should, would, could, take note and remind yourself that all these rules are just made up. The innate longing of wanting to belong, means our unconscious mind can trigger the fear response when we feel like we aren’t meeting expectations.BEST MOMENTS
“As women, many of us can feel the biological instinct to care for others, it’s built into our DNA”
“As long as you aren’t hurting anyone else you can live the way you want to”
“We can feel anxious about not meeting expectations”
“Quietly ask yourself, am I really in danger?”

Wed, 20 Jul 2022 - 26 - How I Overcame my Own Self-Medicating Behaviour: Speaking with Jessica Betancourt
Jessica Betancourt is a certified Transformational Life Coach and Hypnotherapist specialising in addiction transformation. From her own experience, she can relate to the feelings of having chronic anxiety and using substances, mostly alcohol and nicotine to self-medicate.
She joins Dawn in this episode to talk all about her own struggles, how she has been able to cure her addictions to alcohol and cigarettes using hypnotherapy, Neuro-linguistic Programming and meditation and how she now teaches other women how to do the same.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Jessica’s coping mechanisms for life were self-remedies such as drinking and smoking. She didn't realise it's impact until one day she realised it was something she simply didn't want to do anymore. She wanted to face her problems and find a long-term solution to feeling better. It’s not comfortable to admit you may have a problem and need help but when you do, it is an incredibly powerful thing to do. After starting hypnotherapy, Jessica was able to start tackling her self-limiting beliefs. She began to discover who she truly was and what choices she had. The anxiety-induced thoughts have never gone away for Jessica. But she has learnt how to understand those voices and parts of herself and overcome them. 'Distractions' to your anxiety and emotions isn’t a long term solution. This is why it’s important to explore what is behind these feelings and learn what fuels them. Having a supportive and safe space to explore and recognise your anxiety is really important. Jessica's advice for three simple things you can do to help with your anxiety is:
Stop self-meditating and tell yourself the truth, assess how well you are taking care of yourself and pay attention to your own breathing.BEST MOMENTS
“I don’t think many people want to come out and say I have a problem, I need help with this”
“When we believe we are in a stuck state, of course we are never going to move anywhere”
“It does require some level of bravery and willingness to be uncomfortable for the short-term”

Thu, 14 Jul 2022 - 25 - How I Deal with My Own Anxiety
The reason Dawn can talk about anxiety so much and help others is because she has first hand experience herself. In this episode, Dawn opens up about her own battles with anxiety and the strategies she uses to deal with it.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Dawn has been suffering with her anxiety lately, showing itself in the form of overwhelm. Deep sleep is important for organising your brain. If you aren’t getting adequate deep sleep then your brain struggles to process your day(s). Dawn always sees a correlation when she misses out on deep sleep and her anxiety presents itself. When Dawn is able to focus and get tasks done, she finds that her unhelpful anxiety is kept at bay. But as soon as she feels overwhelm, she struggles with my unhelpful anxiety and it can be a challenge for Dawn to get back on track. Self-talk and letting go helps Dawn deal with her feelings of unhelpful anxiety. She ensures she is talking herself down and creating language patterns that make herself feel worse. A plan and a gentle reminder that she can handle her lists, goals and tasks, helps Dawn feel more in control and less anxious. It allows her to re-focus.BEST MOMENTS
“I seem to have lost the ability to make a decision which is why I know my anxiety is in play”
“Which comes first? Is my lack of focus and decision making activating my unhelpful-anxiety or is my anxiety causing my lack of focus and decision making?”
“I can realise if i can increase my anxiety, I can also decrease it”

Wed, 06 Jul 2022 - 24 - Stop Letting Your Feelings Sabotage You!
Do you live your life based on your feelings? How hard do you push past your feelings to truly get what you want? Listen in to this quick episode with Dawn to hear how and why your feelings are getting in the way of living the life you truly want.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
We self-sabotage ourselves and longer term goals by simply doing what we feel like in the moment. Our minds still have our instinctual reactions in this modern world but these often no longer serves us. If you engage your conscious mind and remind yourself of the goals you have, you can push past your initial feelings that keep you stuck in familiarity.BEST MOMENTS

Wed, 29 Jun 2022 - 23 - To Share or Not To Share
Many people feel unheard and the rules around communication in our early lives can contribute to this. As children we learn how to express ourselves, what the right boundaries are and when to stick up for ourselves, this is also where our communication styles are developed.
In this episode, Dawn talks about the importance of communication, how this is developed in early life, the impact it has on relationships and how sometimes sharing can be detrimental to a situation.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
BEST MOMENTS

Thu, 23 Jun 2022 - 22 - Choose Your Hard
Choose your hard, an expression that Dawn and many of us have heard a lot. But what does it mean? Listen into this solo episode of Overcoming Anxiety, where Dawn talks all about this expression, how it relates to anxiety and why making a plan means the choices we make become easier.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Many of us imagine and dream of a life we could live if we made some changes. Yet we seldom actually make those changes. Anxiety is no different, we often know what we would need to do to help with our anxiety but actually doing those things can be the biggest challenge. If we can manage to step outside of ourselves and do the work needed to help manage and alleviate our anxiety then we can start to build a better mindset and life. Making changes is hard, but so is living with anxiety, which hard will you choose? Choosing to do something different can be scary. But you can help yourself by putting a plan in place, by doing the changes in steps. When we know what we want to do and where we want to be, the choices we need to make become easier.BEST MOMENTS

Wed, 15 Jun 2022 - 21 - The Power of Mindset in Overcoming Anxiety and Stressors: with Richard Stone
This is the sixth in a series of interviews with people who have suffered and dealt with anxiety in their own way. Many people have used a mixture of therapies and medication and have insights into the way they have dealt with and overcome many of the challenges associated with anxiety and depression.
Their stories help to show the vast range of circumstances where anxiety shows up and gives us all hope that our lives can be better in the future.
These are their stories, and you are free to take from them whatever you wish. Dawn is not a doctor or psychologist and therefore please consult your own medical practitioners before taking any action with regards to medication.
Richard is a multi-award winning entrepreneur, public speaker, mentor, trainer and coach who is renowned for both his results and sense of humour. In this episode, he talks to Dawn all about his own journey with anxiety, why change is a big catalyst in anxiety and the power of mindset.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
A move across the country as a child impacted Richard quite significantly. He was seen as different and suffered both verbal and physical bullying. When he was offered a job at just the age of 11 he jumped at the chance. He simply worked hard and this led to more opportunities. He liked the fact that he was treated well and respected and this was the biggest thing for him After leaving school at 16, Richard joined the construction industry. He did well as was an MD at just 30. But the recession came along and it hit construction companies hard. He had to tell 300 people they no longer had a job and it left him feeling like a failure, gave him panic attacks and started to suffer from severe anxiety. Change can bring up anxiety for a lot of people. Especially if it is something that alters your identity, such as becoming a mother or changing career. When you are in the midst of anxiety, it’s incredibly hard to see a way out. The anxiety can feel comforting, you often need support from those around you to see a way out. Evaluate your relationships and those around you, are they feeding your anxiety? Think of thoughts like fish in a river. You just ‘catch’ or ‘choose’ one, don’t worry about all the other fish. Get out of your own way. Most people don’t achieve because they are stopping themselves.BEST MOMENTS
“Sometimes in life you have these moments of serendipity”
“So much of my identity was wrapped up in what I did as a job”
“Just because a thought enters your head, that’s it, it’s just a thought”
“Listen to the stories you tell yourself”

Wed, 08 Jun 2022 - 20 - Tolerance, Compromise and Acceptance
We often tolerate, compromise and accept without exception and in this episode Dawn explores why. She discusses the values and concepts of tolerance, compromise and acceptance and their original meanings, how holding them as values affects your daily life and how they can impact your anxiety.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
To be tolerant is to recognise and respect the belief, rights and practices of others. Compromising can be important in relationships and in some areas of life such as work. However, it’s important we don’t compromise to much that we jeopardise our own values. If you tolerate, compromise and accept too much it impacts you negatively. You have to learn to have the right balance and become aligned with yourself. Your thoughts, actions and boundaries must be aligned and respected by both yourself and others. There are lots of things in life you can’t control so you must focus on the things you can. Choose what to tolerate, when it’s right to compromise and if you should accept. Don’t just do these things without thinking, make conscious decisions.BEST MOMENTS
“I’ve been expected to be tolerant, compromise and accept, but is this right?”
“When does compromise become too much, when are we giving to much?”
“I was compromising to keep the peace”

Their stories help to show the vast range of circumstances where anxiety shows up and gives us all hope that our lives can be better in the future.
These are their stories, and you are free to take from them whatever you wish. Dawn is not a doctor or psychologist and therefore please consult your own medical practitioners before taking any action with regards to medication.
Trigger warnings: sexual assault, mental abuse as a child, alcoholism, drug use, anxiety, suicidal thoughts/ideation, self-harm
Hallie is the owner and founder of Healing with Hallie. She’s Arizona’s number one Transformational Alchemist. Changing women’s lives into gold. At Healing with Hallie, she helps women gain clarity and confidence in their lives by addressing and healing the root causes rather than just focusing on the symptoms. When you feel mentally heathy everything is easier. Having dealt with anxiety and depression herself, she understands what it takes to change your mindset and gain back the incredible confidence we were born with.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Hallie is an acclaimed published author. Her book, Beauty in The Pain, helps people not only cope, but thrive alongside chronic pain. Hallie’s mother was an alcoholic, at first Hallie was too young to really understand what was happening but she knew it wasn’t right, she was so young but was having to take care of her mom. She would also find herself trying to anticipate her mother’s moods, being on edge like this is what started her anxiety. At age 12 she began to rebel. She was always trying to escape her feelings of anxiety and was seeking escapism from her life. This started with alcohol and moved onto drugs. If at this young age, Hallie has been told that her feelings of anger and anxiety were normal she would have been able to understand and process her feelings. Instead she tried on different ‘roles’ to gain attention. Through trial and error she realised that rebelling was the only thing that got her the attention she craved. Hallie’s parents didn’t know how to manage her rebellion and at just 13 years of age she went into psychiatric help. At first it helped, but she then started to try harder drugs and things went downhill. Hallie and her parents tried a variety of methods to get her help including a wilderness programme and a therapeutic boarding school but nothing worked. After graduating, Hallie became emancipated from her parents and moved to California. She went back to alcohol as she hadn’t learnt any health tools to dealing with her problems. She started to discover that she loved to travel and meet people. She then began to invest in her mental health and started to look at the root cause of her problems so she could begin to heal. Although Hallie found and still finds talk therapy helpful for processing feelings she didn’t’ find it actually helped solve or deal with her problems. She found the same with medication, yes she felt less but she also felt numb. Hallie found hypnosis and it changed her life. Guided visual meditations showed her what calm truly was. Hypnosis has allowed Hallie to take control over both her mind and her body.BEST MOMENTS
“No adult in my life ever explained to me what I was feeling was normal and it was ok”
“You feel isolated and you feel like you’re not normal”
“I didn’t enjoy taking a bunch of meds, I hated that”
“That hum is gone, I feel pure calmness. Ever since that moment I have been chasing it ever since”

Wed, 18 May 2022 - 18 - How to Focus Less on the Destination and Instead be Present
Destination is defined as being the end of a journey, it’s about the end point. For many years Dawn’s anxiety was centered around ‘destinations’, to getting to an end point, to a goal, to whatever she was focused on or striving for. Listen in to this episode to hear how she managed to overcome this mindset, what she does and instead and what you can do to start living a happier life in the present.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
Each destination Dawn was waiting for gave some relief when she reached it, but it never lasted. Many of us spend so much time focusing and waiting for these different destinations that we forget to live in the present. But what if we decided to truly live every day as our last. Everyone would see things differently. When we live in the present we notice the things happening around us and focus on very different elements of our days and our lives. We do need to plan in life, we can’t leave everything to chance. However, we can change habits to more consciously be in the present. We can learn a lot from babies and children, they are always in the present.BEST MOMENTS
“We are so caught up in where we are going that we stop living in the now”
“We have things in our lives that wouldn’t matter if we were living the last day of our lives”
“What activity do you do that you truly notice?”

Libbie has a special interest in mental health, and Relationships including PTSD, Trauma, and anxiety disorders, having dealt with all three from childhood, and narcissistic abuse herself in several relationships. As an unconfident child, teen, and young adult She struggled with self-sabotage and self-harm, and never felt good enough. Through her own transformational journey, She became her own driving force, in discovering that mental health that is out of balance, and continuous stress and Trauma on the nervous system, affect not only emotional health but also the physiology of the body, presenting itself through illness and disease. Facing her own mortality twice, She became an advocate for teaching people how our awareness and ability to change our lives is often completely overlooked and avoided due to living in our own perceptions of ourselves. How we then create who we are, due to childhood adversities including bullying, trauma, abuse, etc. It's not until later in life that when we find the courage, and the ability to change those perceptions, and when we realise we can, we then see no limits to what we can achieve in our health, and our lives.

Wed, 04 May 2022 - 16 - Life is Not all Rainbows and Unicorns
Dawn grew up in the wet county of Devon, people who live in Devon accept rain as part of their lives and do all the preparation they can to deal with it the best they can. In this episode Dawn compares this to anxiety and life in general, life will always have rain but it’s how we prepare for it, deal with it and accept it that matters and helps us carry on with our lives.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
We know we can’t control the weather, we just ensure we have the right tools and equipment to deal with whatever comes our way. Life throws challenges at us, that’s how it is. The more rigid we are and resistant to being adaptable and change, the more difficult it will feel. It’s much easier to be resilient and make a new plan if we accept that is part of life. We can grow and learn from life’s challenges, when you do this you can see how your life and experiences change, for the better.BEST MOMENTS
“Come rain or shine we carried on, we prepared for all weather”
“When we expect things to happen, when we expect things to change, we can make the changes and still have enjoyment”
“When we experience challenges to our peace, our plans or direction we can be grateful for the times when things do go how we wish”

- 12 - Perfection Doesn't Exist
Many of those who suffer from anxiety also suffer from perfectionism, that is a need to get everything perfect and anything less than perfect is unacceptable. This can be something we are taught in early life but it isn’t often helpful. ABOUT THE GUESTLeigh Adams
Leigh has been an IT Consultant in highly stressful jobs for over 25 years now and suffered from terrible anxiety and panic attacks. It wasn't until his second wife said she wanted him to leave that he realised the importance of life itself. Leigh took 3 months off work to sort out his affairs and walked over 10 miles a day.
It was during this calming time that Leigh realised the true benefits of having a clear mind. He then set up his own blog at Change Your Life Forever https://changeyourlifeforever.co.uk in order to pass on his experience and hopefully help other people in the same situation.
Life really can be amazing if we tackle it in the right way and that means being kind, helping others, dealing with daily issues, and letting our thoughts pass-thru rather than letting them take control of our reality.
To live without anxiety and stress leads to happiness which is what we all want and if only people realised how easy this can be, the World would become a better place.

Thu, 03 Mar 2022 - 7 - Thoughts, Where Do They Come From?
Do we create our thoughts or do they create us? In this episode Dawn explores the power of thoughts, the role they can and do play in our lives and what we can do to stop them from dictating how we feel.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
As humans we have an incredible imagination. This can create positivity and happiness but it can also have a downside. We can imagine negative situations that cause us fear, stress and anxiety. Our bodies are supposed to react to what we are thinking about, it’s evolutionary. In this sense we do not control our thoughts. But what we can control, is recognising whether it is useful to engage with the thoughts we have or not. It’s our thoughts that create our feelings and once we discover this we can challenge them. A thought is just that. It’s up to you if you give it energy or not, you can have control over how your thoughts make you feel and impact your life.BEST MOMENTS

Thu, 17 Feb 2022 - 5 - Where Does Our Anxiety Come From - Modelling
Where does our anxiety come from? In the final episode of this three-part series, Dawn looks at what is called modelling. As children we copy the people around us and this continues into adulthood. We are born to learn from others for survival and this is why we ‘copy’ or ‘model’. Modelling has the same effect on our subconscious mind as beliefs and experiences, listen in to this episode to find out why and how we can learn to leave anxiety behind and become who we are supposed to be.
Thu, 17 Feb 2022 - 4 - Where Does Our Anxiety Come From - Experiences
Where does our anxiety come from? In this second episode of three, Dawn looks at our experiences. Our experiences form how we approach the world, our attitudes and our reactions. Experiences have a bearing on how we tackle something particularly difficult as well as something every day and simple. Listen in to find out why this is and how exposure, balance and tolerance is significant in whether we find ourselves suffering from anxiety.
Thu, 17 Feb 2022 - 3 - Where Does Our Anxiety Come From - Beliefs
Where does our anxiety come from? In the next three episodes Dawn breaks this down, in this first episode Dawn looks at our beliefs. Our beliefs are rules, expectations and understandings that are embedded in our very self and play a very big role in how we interpret the world around us.
Thu, 17 Feb 2022 - 2 - The Fear Response
