Women in AV winner Malissa Dillman of Kramer Electronics and Young AV Professional Christina Minihan of Visix Inc. share their thoughts about what it means to win their award, where we stand as women in AV, how we can help Hurricane Sandy victims and what role social media will be in AV’s future!

Women in AV founder, Jennifer H. Willard, is attending and reporting from this year’s NSCA Business and Leadership Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. NSCA’s BLC is a one-of-a-kind industry conference that brings together the business owners and leaders of AV systems integration companies for 3 days of seminars, speakers, and networking with peers and colleagues about topics related to the state of the industry and it’s future. And, a golf charity that raises money for the NSCA Education Foundation. The theme of this year’s BLC is Transform Your Business into the World of Tomorrow.

This year, Willard is attending as an owner/end-user and it will be the first-time this sector of our industry is participating in the conference. She will be a panelist on the Beer n’ Bull session that will focus on Developing Winning Partnerships between the manufacturer, systems integrators, and owner/end-users.

This WAVEcast, we talk with the exective team of the National Systems Contractor’s Association (NSCA) about the 15th annual Business and Leadership Conference help in Phoenix, AZ last week. Chuck Wilson, Executive Director, Ingolf deJong, President of the Board of Directors, and Ron Pusey, Board of Director, share with us from the conference the history, highlights, and what attendees gain for their business from participating. You’ll hear about the activities, that took place over the 3 days, the value and knowledge offered by world-renowned speakers, and their perspectives on what they and the industry business leaders and owners participating take away from being part of this one-of-a-kind industry conference.

Also announced at this year’s conference, Chuck Wilson’s new book, Under the Social Influence, has been released and will be available to public on March 1, 2013. Wilson’s new book is a handbook primarily for younger employees who want to learn how to adapt and thrive in the professional workplace through examples and exercises focused on everything from setting priorities to surrounding yourself with positive people. For managers, Wilson provides expert mentoring tips for developing strong and positive relationships with your younger staff.

In this podcast, we talk with ITDRC co-founder Joe Hillis. ITDRC is a disaster response non-profit agency that puts our AV/IT industry and services to use for the highest good. Last week, our industry went to Orlando for InfoComm 2013. The Women in AV, spearheaded by FSR’s President Jan Sandri thought it was important we support a local women’s and children’s charity that supports homeless women and children in the local Orlando area. We’ve already raised $1,100 for this worthy cause, but we can do better. Knowing we all pay almost twice as much just to attend the show.
