  • 236 - Build It Well Week 1 | When You Can't Look Away

We're all building something... let's look to the book of Nehemiah together this summer for biblical principles and encouragement we can apply to our own lives.

    🌟Reflection & Discussion Questions🌟
    1. What's something you're building right now?
    2. Chapters 1 & 2 are all about Nehemiah's response to the crisis in Jerusalem. His reaction is influenced by his devotion to God. He decides to pray and trust God... he doesn't look away. How can we stay focused on what God wants even when we hear difficult news or face challenges?
    3. After hearing that his home city was in shambles, Nehemiah had to do something about it. Have you ever had an experience like this? What's something you can't look away from?
    4. Throughout this book, we're able to watch Nehemiah direct the rebuilding of the wall with strength and clarity. Is there someone in your life that you look up to as a leader because of the way they encourage and lead others with integrity?
    5. Pastor Sam said the best first step to take after you sense injustice is to take action through prayer and confession. Prayer doesn't magically make people do what you want them to do, but it does humble us. What does prayer do to you?
    6. When you're building something well—it's inevitable that you'll experience resistance. You have to be so convinced that God wants you moving forward that you're willing to face the resistance head-on. What do you do when resistance comes your way? How do you fight against discouragement and keep your perspective focused on what God says, not what other people are saying?
    7. In Nehemiah 2:17-18, Nehemiah gathers all the leaders together and reminds them of what they're doing. He encourages them. How can you bring other people (family members, co-workers, friends, neighbors, etc.) into what you're doing so the action is shared?
    8. What is one step you're taking this week to build something well like Nehemiah did? The steps shared on Sunday were: 1) Start with something you can't look away from, 2) Possibilities emerge with serious prayer, 3) Steps take shape with faith-filled risk, and 4) The building starts when the call to action is shared.

  • 235 - Prodigal Week 3 | Love of the Father

One of the most timeless and retold parables from the Bible, the story of the prodigal son has fascinated and transformed people for generations. In this 3 week series, find out why you’re never too far from home.

    ✏️💡🌟 Reflection & Discussion Questions:
    1. Describe your relationship with your father. Are there any similarities or differences with the father from the parable?
    2. Pastor Shawn shared 4 different ways we can seek God’s leadership in our lives & be transformed. They are: get hungry, own up, surrender to God, and lift up your praise. Which of these 4 ways comes easiest to you? Which one is most challenging?
    3. When we fall into sin, we can be distracted and feel further from God. In Luke 15:17-18 the younger son owns up to his mistakes and confesses. The result was being reconnected with his father. Have you ever experienced this? How do you practice healthy vulnerability and confession with God?
    4. Has there been a time in your life when you’ve loved something else more than you’ve loved God? What happened?
    5. Pastor Shawn shared how the younger son transformed his perspective from “give me → make me”. Are there things in your life you can surrender to God vs. trying to control or earn a result from God?
    6. How can you be like the father in the parable to others?
