- 91 - George Feely - House of Disco Guestmix 055
Next one to throw down and number 55 in our mix series is Irish producer George Feely. A purveyor of fine and diverse house music Georges mix provides some momentum and energy that most of us are missing in our lives at the these days. Although this Friday isn't your average one it doesn't mean you can't get excited and Georges mix tickles all the right places. Stay safe out there, and don't forget to have a little fun where you can.
Sat, 21 Mar 2020 - 90 - Hubie Davison - House of Disco Guestmix 054
Today's house-guest is Irishman Hubie Davison. Hubie is a producer who crafts his productions with class and exacting detail and always walks an interesting path as a Dj. Hubie's mix today fits more tracks into 50 minutes that you could imagine possible, yet somehow it doesn't feel cramped. Exploring the genre boundaries of where funk, disco and jazz meet in the club this mix is a wonderful journey into the depths.
Thu, 04 Apr 2019 - 89 - Cody Currie - House of Disco Guestmix 053
A smooth and sultry springtime mix as our latest house-guest ‘Cody Currie’ take the reins. A mix should be a journey, and it’s always a welcome change when that journey is unexpected. Todays mix from Cody is just that, taking influences from jazz, deep house and some very low slung funk. Take that new armchair for a spin on this one, oh and post pictures of all babies made as a result of this mix in the comments section.
Thu, 21 Mar 2019 - 88 - Boots & Kats - House of Disco Guestmix 052
Straight up dose of disco medecine today as the pair of scamps that are ‘Boots & Kats’ turn in a joyous mix drippin in tiny mirror tiles. The pair from Dublin have been doing great things in Ireland, like so many others at the moment it seems. It’s really fantastic to see Dublin’s younger artists and promoters grabbing the scene by the scruff of the neck in the face of some pretty archaic licensing laws. Anyway, less talking more toe-tapping.
Tue, 13 Nov 2018 - 87 - The Iron Glove - House of Disco Guestmix
We're 51 mixes deep in the series now and got we've someone completely new for you. We get a lot of really average demo's and requests to help people promote/release their mixes and music, it seem's pretty relentless sometimes. We try to listen to them all but it can be a bit exhausting and can't help but get a bit polarised to out of the blue contacts with yet more music for your tired ears! However every now and then it pays off, for both sides, such was the case with this weeks mix from 'The Iron Glove'. He sent it over saying he had made it specifically for us as he likes the series so of course it got a listen. It was one of those 'YES' moments where it just clicked and dusted off the cobwebs of so many dead ends. The mix is fantastic with a track-list that oozes class and a really clever ear for disco. So here it is, ladies and gentlemen, The Iron Glove.
Thu, 06 Sep 2018 - 86 - Jive Talk - House of Disco Guestmix
For the 50th in our series of guest mixes we’ve invited ‘Jive Talk’ round the gaf for a jam. The guys, who are London based but met in Bristol have warmed up at a few of our parties, the next ones in two weeks click here for details, and this mix personifies their ‘slow and steady’ approach. Lovely laidback goodness.
Tue, 24 Jul 2018 - 85 - Bobby Analog - House of Disco Guestmix
OUT TO ALL THEM 5AM SING ALONG PARTY GUYS & GIRLS, THE AFTERNOON IN THE PARK SQUAD, THE GETTIN IT TOO TIGHT FOR TECHNO PEOPLE... THIS ONE IS FOR ALL YALL. Belfast resident and founder of Body Fusion Records Bobby Analog is next to pop in with a mix for our guest mix series. Ahead of his Boiler Room at AVA in a few weeks he's gone all doe eyed on us and chopped together some loved up ballads and classic jams.
Wed, 16 May 2018 - 84 - D'Arabia - House of Disco Guestmix
D'Arabia, the latest artist to hang his boots at House of Disco and release on the label is also responsible for the latest guest mix. His analogue production sensibilities are evident in this vinyl only selection which slaloms nicely through genres but manages to keep a smile on its face.
Thu, 10 May 2018 - 83 - Aroop Roy - House of Disco Guestmix
Todays guestmix is from our newest housemate Aroop Roy (Yes it's his real name), who's Ep has also just dropped on House of Disco. Aroop's made a name for himself by deftly incorporating diverse musical influences into his productions from afrobeat to techno. His mix for us today charts some of those influences and we certainly end up in some unexpected but welcome places. Tracklist will surface in a week or two........until then, happy guessing.
Thu, 06 Apr 2017 - 82 - Soultage - House of Disco Guestmix
Next up in our podcast are Dutch duo ‘Soultage’. Having just turned in a stunning remix for us of Snack’s track ‘Burnin’ it seemed only only too fitting to get the guys involved for a mix. Expect lots of burners with a tracklist that full of favourite artists.
Wed, 04 Jan 2017 - 81 - Closed Paradise - House of Disco Guestmix
Todays guest in our podcast series plumbs the deeper ends of house and has turned in some serious tackle for Kolour, Whiskey Disco and Masterworks over the past while. We love his almost underwater disco and the state of hypnosis we find ourselves under when we listen to his productions. Frenchman 'Closed Paradise' not his real name surprisingly, has turned in a vinyl only mix leaning on his classic house influences and it's a breath of fresh air to say the least. That 'Precious Little Diamond' Remix.......you'll see.
Wed, 16 Mar 2016 - 80 - Snacks - House of Disco Guestmix
Today's guest mix is from one of our latest housemates and top buzzers 'Snacks'. This duo have been producing some of our favourite sonic treats from their studio in Berlin and we're happy to have them on our latest release as remixers and on an upcoming release with their own solo ep. Fun is the name of the game when these two dj and this mix doesn't stop the party.
Wed, 10 Feb 2016 - 79 - Luxxury - House of Disco Guestmix
Today for the 43rd mix in our guest mix series we have LA based edit maestro 'Luxxury' weighing in with a slow edits mixtape to soundtrack your sunsets until the summer winds down. There's a very familiar feeling to this mix indeed as Luxxury puts his laid back touch on artists like 'The Doors', 'Paul Simon', 'Tears For Fears', 'Dolly Parton'and the list just goes on. It's a really interesting to hear his approach to revitalising something you already know so well and we think he manages to put his own voice in there. A mixtape with an hour’s worth of just-slightly-north of 100bpm edits, designed for a sly 3am skinny dip in the rooftop pool at the hotel. Take off your clothes and those of a close friend, lover, or admirer; put on those white bathrobes (which are NOT free for you take home with you, btw); and try and contain your giddy giggles as you take the elevator to the top floor. Do what you need to do to convince the poolside bartender to let you slip this mix on the soundsystem as he leaves you to enjoy a slow, delicious moonlight swim.
Tue, 04 Aug 2015 - 78 - Fouk - House of Disco Guestmix
Today’s guest mix is from a duo of producers Daniel Leseman & Hans Peeman (Junktion) that have recently joined forces under the moniker Fouk. Responsible for some of our favourite productions over the past year these guys and their new label Outplay are certainly on form. It’s always a bit of an experiment when two producers join forces and very often it doesn’t quite work, however their styles, bolstered by their friendship, have joined seamlessly (or so it appears). Their mix for us today is full of funk, samples, groove and good records, just what we’re after. A particular highlight is the new Hauke Freer track and one from ‘Somethin Gunny’ we’d never heard before.
Wed, 11 Feb 2015 - 77 - Casino Times - House of Disco Guestmix
Today's guest mix is from uk duo and all round gentlemen 'Casino Times', comprised of Nick Church & Joe Spencer. Casino Times is an act that has been close to the label for some time and has played a heap of our shows and released with us in the past and we've been meaning to get them onto our mix series for some time now and a recent performance at one of our events seemed like the perfect time to do a live recording. They first caught our ear on their 'Thats The Truth' release with Sccucci Manucci and since then have continued to evolve their sound and explore new directions rather than be easily categorised, which is not a common enough trait for producers in our opinion. One thing that always stands out for us with their mixes is their focus on building and atmosphere slowly and patiently with eclectic and unconventional track selections, and this mix is no different. Serving as a perfect warm up they tread some very deep waters here indeed!
Tue, 13 Jan 2015 - 76 - Harry Wolfman - House of Disco Guestmix
Joining us for the 40th edition of our HoDcast is the latest fully fledged member of the House of Disco, Harry Wolfman. Harry has been on our radar for a long time now and having gotten involved with our ‘House of’ compilation series we felt it was time to get him more heavily involved. The result of which is a collaborative EP between himself and Skinny Love which has just come out on House of Disco. Harry’s roots in Hip Hop are clearly evident in his production sensibilities and more clearly his mixes. The mix he has done for us is a wonderfully diverse homage to the sounds that Harry feels are most influential to him. Full of neatly wrapped surprises and familiar nostalgia it’s fits the brief for an all purpose mix perfectly, there’s no wrong time to press play on this one.
Tue, 18 Nov 2014 - 75 - Sixth Avenue Express - House of Disco Guestmix
Today’s guest mix see’s us get all cozy with one of our closest housemates. ‘Sixth Avenue Express’. Hailing from the peak district and based in London this producer has been flourishing this past year and has been growing a decent following as a result. Known for making emotionally delicate and subtly details productions SAE has a way with chords and vocals that is pretty rare for a producer so young. Having just released a solo EP with us called ‘I See’ we thought it was a good idea to reveal a little more about this artist and what they are all about. Their mix is as we expected it to be, mid-tempo for the most part and sultry as hell. The tone is set from the get go with their choice to open with Darkside’s beautiful ‘Paper Trails’ and their leaning towards music with a warm soul is no better typified than with the inclusion of Candi Staton – Hallelujah Anyway (Larse Vocal) and a particular highlight for me is Terrence Pearce’s beautiful Halcyon which conjures memories of ‘man with a red face’ moments. It’s not all calm waters however as tracks like Max Graef’s Kotschleuder make sure your feet are still working. There’s also a track from their latest release with us called ‘Clandestine’ and another one to aptly see the mix out called ‘Goodbye’ which has just come out on a limited pink vinyl. We caught up with Sixth Avenue Express to have a chin wag.
Wed, 23 Jul 2014 - 74 - Greg Wilson - House of Disco Guestmix
We have a real treat today. Over 2 years ago we approached one of the men who responsible for turning us into disco fiends. We really didn’t expect to receive a response and when we did we were both surprised and enthused. This man was Greg Wilson. Not only did Greg take the time to give us one of our first guestmixes but he also spent an hour on the phone to us giving us a really in-depth insight into the scenes history and his origins as a Dj. Suffice to say we have the utmost respect for Greg who has always taken to time to ensure people accurately understand where these timeless tracks all came from and whats keeping them relevant. Greg recently came down to play at one of our parties in London and has very kindly given us the recording of his live set to use as his second guestmix for us. We think you’ll agree that it cements his position as both an adventurous selector and a talented Dj. There is no tracklist for this one but that’s half the fun.
Mon, 06 Jan 2014 - 73 - Magnier - House of Disco Guestmix
Todays guestmix comes from House of Disco’s founder ‘Magnier’. It’s been a while since his last mix for us and with the summer being in full swing it seemed like the right time to get another out there and keep the mix series moving. This mix is full of classic laidback summer tracks, some guilty pleasures and a few cheeky edits. Mostly these tracks are the ones that have been following him around and resurfacing time and time again. Step outside, open a beer and enjoy it while it lasts folks.
Mon, 22 Jul 2013 - 72 - Satin Jackets - House of Disco Guestmix
It’s been a while since our last guestmix, and what better way to keep it lit then with an exclusive mix from an artist that’s a housemate of the label and a friend, Satin Jackets. The last year has been a big one for this German based outfit (no pun intended) with releases currently sitting high on Beatport charts, productions in great demand, a worldwide following and the kicking off of the first series of live shows all over the place. Judging by the outfits work ethos this is only going to be the tip of the iceberg. Satin Jackets trademark sound is slow, sultry and brimming with optimism and todays mix reinforces this aesthetic. With a BPM that’s in no hurry this mix is full of summer heat. With plenty of hooky vocals and a non pretentious approach to track selection this typifies Satin Jackets ethos of music to make you smile. We caught up with Tim and Den to ask them a few questions, some pertinent and some pointless.
Mon, 08 Jul 2013 - 71 - Jacques Renault - House of Disco
Todays guestmix is from a man responsible for some of our favourite output over the last few years ‘Jacques Renault’. Jacques (Yes its his real name) has a plethora of strings to his bow curating and managing a number of great labels like ‘On The Prowl’, its offshoot ‘OTP Party Breaks’, vinyl only ‘Goodnight Moon’ and the burgeoning ‘Let’s Play House’ which began as a series of parties that flourished into a label he currently runs alongside his partner in crime Nik Mercer. ‘Lets Play House’ seem to be nailing it at the moment with releases from lots of HOD favourites like ‘Dead Rose Music Company’, ‘Fantastic Man, ‘Bicep’ and ‘Toby Tobias’. Quite the stable. Not happy to rest on his laurels for very long Jacques and Nik recently announced the launch of ‘Goodnight Moon’ a vinyl only label. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this project as it has potential to be a bit special. Jacques strikes me as a man who doesn’t take himself too seriously, which is a rare attribute among producers. This mix is for having fun/getting messy to, simple. However it’s not all candy coated disco like you may expect and Jacques ventures into some deeper territory with the wonderfully complex and polarizing ‘John Talabot – When The Past Was Present (Pachanga Boys Red Remix)’. You can nearly feel the sweat dripping from the roof to Daniel Avery’s “Drone Logic” which is a bit of a monster. There’s a few unreleased little gems peppered throughout this mix, including a first peek at the aforementioned ‘Goodnight Moon’ label with ‘Almost – Polyphony’ which incidentally is one of the highlights of this mix when paired with ‘Emotion II Emotion – Can’t Help Myself’. We cornered Jacques and Nik, shined a spotlight in their eyes, waterboarded them and managed to squeeze some info from them.
Fri, 25 Jan 2013 - 70 - The Legendary 1979 Orchestra - House of Disco Guestmix
Named after the year that 'Disco sucks' and they we're burning records in the streets, Romanian Andrei Idu, or 'The Legendary 1979 Orchestra' was infact born in the mid eighties. Now a resident of Utrecht Andrei is responsible for some of our most played edits on Dinner City Sounds. His new label 'Legendary Sound Research' (can you see the theme forming) seems to be going from strength to strength and his productions have earned him vinyl releases on Nurvous, Silhouette and Shanti Records. He's very kindly answered a few questions and provided us with an hour and twenty minutes of sonic love. His intentions are made very clear from the get go, it's going to be funky and its going to be heavy, you will want to dance, don't be alarmed. You can tell by the tracklist that he has his own identity as a DJ, he plays what he likes and isn't out to regurgitate the 20 most popular recent tracks. Which although this sounds obvious, it's not as common as you might think. What begins as a selection of deep cuts of raw house eventually walks backwards through time to a more classic disco aesthetic. Personified by the arrival of Lazare Hoche - Edit A and our personal highlight, Gary's Gang - Let's Lovedance Tonight (Jacques Renault Edit).
Mon, 21 Jan 2013 - 69 - Monitor 66 - House of Disco Guestmix
Monitor 66's arrival on our radar has been less like a faint blip getting stronger and more like the last minute realisation of impending meteor impact, a bit like the film 'Deep impact' only not rubbish. The three Swedish gentlemen that make up 'Monitor 66' have been responsible for one of our favourite tunes of the summer and indeed our first single release 'Triscuits'. Our new housemates are here for the long haul outputting a string of top quality remixes and playing more and more gigs around europe. Todays mix from the trio stays true to their manifesto, that they "Make music for sunsets". Its got a classic heavy selection that will keep the nostalgia muscle pumping and the warmth flooding in. Beginning with an eerie confidence and a cold bleak soundscape to set the scene, the soul starts to creep in, melting the ice with the familiar tones of Sister Sledge with an edit spin. The mix moves nicely from classics to more contemporary edits and house with highlights including Move D's amazing 'Untitled 1' and Rayko's 'Just A Little Bit Of Love'. We caught up with the guys to ask them a few questions bout who they want to slap, who's the best DJ and........turtles.
Wed, 31 Oct 2012 - 68 - Dead Rose Music Company - House of Disco Guestmix
We’ve had a soft spot for the productions of this weeks guest for some time now. We first posted about him back in October 2010 and have lapped up his productions ever since. ‘The Dead Rose Music Company’ created his alias around a fictitious story involving feuding families and has since shed this mysterious origin in favour of a more honest and upfront approach. What started as reverb heavy edits of guilty pleasures has evolved into some of the most exciting productions of the past year putting out tracks on WOLF, Kolour, Sleazy Beats, Lets Play House and shortly on our House of Disco imprint. Todays mix from TDRMC is a live recording from his Red Bull Music Academy appearance in May that he recorded for us. So all mixing is done in real-time, the way it should be but often isn’t. Starting with a Marvin Gaye track that miles ahead of its time the mix is as eclectic as you’d expect. Loaded with typically heavy grooves and pushing a deep, clubby feel this mix showcases his great skills as a selector. Treading a line between the depths of reverberating house and the enthusiasm of disco and soul the mix progresses with plenty of confidence and a woozy strength. There’s even some swing in there among his unreleased tracks, to which we’re privy a sneak peek. We caught up with him and chatted about fixing things, reverb, split personalities and of all topics…… ABBA!
Thu, 23 Aug 2012 - 67 - Debonair - House of Disco Guestmix
This weeks guestmix comes from one of our most important family members ‘Debonair’ or Conor Bevan as the police like to call him. Debonair has had a release on our last EP called ‘Why?‘ and also has one on our upcoming vinyl called ‘Your Love‘ so its safe to say we’ve cut him his own key to the house and don’t mind him coming to raid the fridge every now and then. Debonair’s edits are some of the best out there and with him now focussing more on originals there’s some very exciting things on the horizon for this London fella who’s just fled to Australia (brings us back to the police thing). I must admit I constantly follow this guy around Soundcloud, stalking his favourites as he unearths some real gems, some of which he showcases on his excellent Voyager mix series. His mix for us charts a familiar journey, echoing the direction so many people music tastes develop. Starting with a lot of melodic vocal driven disco and progressing deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole into booming gutsy house with treated vocals and irresistible basslines. Some of the highlights of this journey for me are Charlotte Gainsbourg’s ‘Paradisco (Joakims Paradisco Garage Remix)’ for its haunting vocals and its pace which seems to gather and gather. Another standout for me is the hypnotic Sellouts – Let Me Work with its piercing vocal stabs. We caught up with Conor to talk about slapping celebrities, creme fraiche, Victoria sponge and high five’s
Wed, 20 Jun 2012 - 66 - Trickski - House of Disco Guestmix
Todays very special houseguests are the broadly talented berlin duo Trickski. These guys are responsible for crafting some of our favourite tracks recently which went out on labels like Permanent Vacation and their family label Suol. Daniel and Yannick have gathered a huge online following through their popularity on Soundcloud an its well deserved, they have a deft touch when it comes to production and instead of taking the approach of 'throw things at it until something sticks' like a lot of producers they air on the side of caution, never including an element unless its necessary. This coupled with their love of all things deep makes them distinct in their own right, giving them a sound you can almost recognise, not an easy task. Their mix is more downtempo then we expected, a nice surprise, and is brimming with soul (or in this case Suol) and character. It begins with a low slung, cocktails at dusk vibe and continues in its lush heavy fashion progressively gaining momentum adding more and more warmth and sun. It's a bit like watching the sunset, only backwards, so instead of chilling out you instead find yourself in the heat of the day.
Tue, 10 Apr 2012 - 64 - PBR Streetgang - House of Disco Guestmix
Ahead of their upcoming gig in London with us on 2nd of March we caught up with banter merchants PBR Streetgang to pick their brains. From the prospect of wrestling a bear, to the frolicking utopia of Garden Festival, 2012 could literally be another hands-on year for PBR Streetgang. No one has ever questioned Bonar Bradberry and Tom Thorpe’s work rate or commitment to the cause (the music industry, not modern bear combat) ever since the pair met almost a decade ago, and rightly so. It would also be foolish to say that the PBR brand has flirted with ubiquity of late. Their remix back catalogue is long but certainly not drawn out, tinkering unforgettably with the sounds of Crazy P, Odyssey and Death On The Balcony, as well as some solid homegrown work on labels that include Wolf Music, 2020Vision, and for their recent Downstroke release, Hot Creations. An impressive CV, so far, you’ll agree. So as music partnerships go, Bonar and Tom are seemingly very compatible. A happy marriage, you could say, that is celebrating 10 years of crowd pleasing and festival teasing, which all started when they were fostering their trade in the legendary Asylum club in Leeds. For those fortunate enough to grace the dance floor during this tenure, you would have seen and heard some indelible moments, from Henrik Schwarz to Maurice Fulton projecting their celestial powers, to name but an esteemed few, at a venue where the boys can safely call home. Oh and they annually hold the fort at a little club called Space in Ibiza too. The Boogie Boat is clearly not running out of steam anytime soon, and with spaces in high demand, you had better book your ticket now.
Wed, 22 Feb 2012 - 63 - Slow Hands - House of Disco Guestmix
Todays houseguest is the New York Slo-mo (although he’ll hate that) producer Slow Hands. Not to be pidgeon-holed by his name he’s not all 90bpm’s. His edits and remixes seem to track his music interest, touching on tracks that obviously hold a place in his musical past. You certainly couldn’t refer to Slow Hands as a predictable producer or even Dj, its apparent from listening to his productions, remix’s and Dj sets that this is a man who likes to push the boat out and then when its gone a safe distance blow it to bits with blatant disregard to anti-dynamite fishing laws. He tackles really tough to touch subject matter in his edits such as Led Zeppelin and Sufjan Stephens but he not only does it well he makes them memorable by not relying on the original but more by plundering elements to use as familiar bricks in an entirely new production. Having previously released on Wolf + Lamb Slow Hands is nestled right into the Wolf + Lamb family in New York and has a dedication that a lot of those artists seem to possess, perhaps they encourage each other, or compete with each other, star-sign dependant. He put out an impressive 17 Podcasts last year but this is the first non live output in 6 months and by the sounds of things he’s been sitting on some serious golden eggs. His guestmix today is a varied journey of twists and sudden turns, setting the tone wonderfully from the get go with a John Talabot edit. In fact 2/3 of all the tracks in this mix are remix’s, but thats neither here nor there. The arrival of Appaloosa – Patchwork (Bostro Pesopeo Remix) is when the tone is really set for what to expect, and that is to not know what to expect next. A real surprise was the inclusion of a Dj Harvey remix of a Canyons track. I’ve always preferred the Mic Newman version but the Harvey remix seems to sit perfectly in this mix, making me question my earlier convictions. The highlight for me however was the pairing of Jonas Rathsman – Feeling You into Pete Herbert/Golden Fleece – Ivory Waves (Sare Havlicek Remix). Neither track I’d heard before (yikes) but both I instantly nabbed. A lot of Dj’s in this style play good music but they should consider the ante upped!
Thu, 16 Feb 2012 - 62 - Magnier - The House of Disco Guestmix
Todays guestmix is brought to you by The House of Disco Owner Magnier. We’re really looking forward to what this year brings, we have some fantastic artists lined up and hopefully some really special releases for you all. The support recieved from all angles has been mindblowing. So heres a collection of some of Magnier's favourite sweat enducing bangers. I know its early in the year, a time for responsibility, caution and repair……..apparently. Well you can still be cautious while you bang it out with your mates. It would be irresponsible not to!
Tue, 14 Feb 2012 - 58 - Roberto Rodriguez - The House of Disco Guestmix
This week’s guest mix from Roberto Rodriguez will lull you into a false sense of mellow security, before picking you up with some classic disco and then shaking you around with full-on techno. Despite its laid back opening, it’s not one for the faint hearted and if it doesn’t get you in the mood for the weekend you might as well just go to bed now and stay there until Monday. With his first track recorded at the tender age of 13 and his first release ten years later in 1997, Roberto has 35 original recordings under his belt. His remixes and edits are in constant demand, with 25 edits in the last year alone for the likes of Yoko Ono and Crazy P. This eclectic masterpiece is typical of Finnish Roberto’s style, and his childhood soundtrack spanning 70s boogie and flamenco classics from his Spanish father and Finnish mother set the tone for his open-minded policy on music – anything goes, as long as it’s good. His mixes are as likely to feature Salsoul classics as they are old school acid, but the one thing they all have in common is quality – this guy oozes it.
Tue, 20 Sep 2011 - 56 - Sleazy Beats - The House of Disco Guestmix
There are a lot of labels out there who put out anything with a pulse and a name attached to it, todays guestmix is by no such label. Sleazy beats have been at the forefront of a slow motion wave recently. Pushing sleazy, chugging grooves by some of the industry's rising stars the guys over at Sleazy Beats have put out some of our favourite tracks. These guys have a great attitude to it all, remaining humble and genuinely interested. They run Sleazy Beats because they genuinely love music. In their own words they are "by no means a spectacular DJ's". I have to disagree, 80% of being a good DJ is selection, even a DJ who cant mix for his life will get applause if his track selection is good enough. I think we're all in agreement that's what comes across so strongly in this guestmix, immaculate track selection. Its a slow but typically groovy and soulful mix of earphone friendly head nodders including some as yet unreleased tracks. To check out the interview and download a full quality version visit www.thehouseofdisco.com
Fri, 17 Jun 2011 - 54 - Francis Inferno Orchestra - The House of Disco Guestmix
With Melbourne being a haven for all things clubbing and house related at the moment, the corresponding plethora of DJ’s and producers that compile the scene are making their mark outside, and spreading the Melbourne gospel further afield. One of the most exciting of these producers is Griffin James, aka Francis Inferno Orchestra, who in the last 6 months has been kicking up a whirlwind of attention in the last few months due to his own slick productions and growing listenership on Soundcloud. Ringing endorsements have come in the form of luminaries such as Mark E spinning his tracks, not to mention the likes of Soul Clap queuing up to do remixes, while Resident Advisor also pointed him out as the one to watch coming out of Melbourne. As a DJ, his Melbourne Deepcast Set was a blistering showcase of his mature appreciation of the finest in house, a sensibility he clearly carries into his production a-game, exhibited by two of this years finer releases, ‘So Divine’ and ‘Meet Me In Salt Lake City’. His production midas touch certainly belies his age, and the appetite for more has definitely been whetted. Thankfully for the House Of Disco, FIO has taken some time out to give a wuick interview on his approach to production and DJing, the Melbourne scene and cap on some of his main influences. He’s also kindly put together a guestmix of some choice cuts for us to enjoy… Make sure to check it out!
