Welcome to the Finding Hope podcast. I'm your host, Laura Bell, and today's episode, "Lizzie Ens FINAL," features the extraordinary journey of Lizzie Ens, a courageous woman who sought freedom and self-discovery beyond the life she knew in an Amish community. Lizzie, one of 18 siblings, grew up without indoor plumbing or electricity and faced the daunting challenge of leaving her strict Amish community—a community seemingly frozen in the 1860s without a choice to return once someone left.
Despite the risks, Lizzie crafted a secret escape plan, which she'll share with us, including the heart-pounding moments from leaving a note for her family to the ultimate leap of faith off a roof, guided by nothing more than hope and the desire for a different future.
Lizzie's story doesn't stop at her departure from the Amish life; she has gone on to become the CEO and co-founder of Miss Commando, a non-toxic beauty company. She also runs an online telehealth coaching business, focusing on hormones, thyroid health, and gut healing.
Throughout the episode, Lizzie and I will delve into the value of simplicity in cooking, the impact of societal misconceptions about health, and the importance of self-love and compassion in our personal journeys. Whether discussing the way we nurture our bodies or how we view wellness, Lizzie's insights are rooted in her unique experiences and her drive to empower others.
Her story encompasses the struggles she faced, including her diagnosis with Hashimoto's, and how embracing her Amish heritage's principles of self-sufficiency and natural living helped her face these challenges head-on. We'll also explore the importance of non-toxic living, the significance of self-care post-divorce, and the beautiful reunion that mended the bond between Lizzie and her mother.
Join us for this incredible conversation about breaking free from constraints, the power of natural healing, and the pursuit of wellness in the modern world. This is an episode you won't want to miss, so let's dive in.

Thu, 18 Jan 2024 - 45min - 56 - Understanding your worth by understanding your past with Tori Hein
Tori is a down to earth communicator, coach, and Bible teacher who engages people with her authenticity, humor, and passion for God and His word. Whether on stage speaking, coaching her clients, or sitting snuggled on a couch with a friend, her goal is to move others toward God in their story and live for eternity, now.
Her journey as a work-from-home mom began in support of her husband, Matt, and his traveling band, I AM THEY. After almost a decade-long career in online sales and health coaching, while also balancing motherhood, ministry, and homeschooling, Tori felt herself reaching a point of burnout.
God met her with one question: "Are you working from worth, or for it?" Realizing she had placed much of her identity in the results she was producing for God rather than in the God she was working for, this began a two-year journey of healing from chronic stress and striving that led to her online course and mentorship program, "Work from Worth" that was launched in 2021.
Tori has a Bachelor's Degree in Biblical Studies through Calvary Chapel Bible College and is a certified life coach through Transformational Leadership Coaching International and will complete her trauma-informed coaching certification through Freedom Movement in 2023.
Her and her husband, Matt, and two children, Micaiah and Amara, live in the Tennessee countryside just south of Nashville and serve at the The Belonging Co in Columbia, TN.

- 50 - Healing endometriosis naturally with Kori Meloy
7 years ago, Kori was struggling through a private battle with debilitating Endometriosis. She had a moment of clarity leaving that OB/GYN appointment where she got her diagnosis- “I can either take this diagnosis as my death sentence, or I can ditch the authoritarian medical model and believe that my body can heal.” She took the latter route. She found a holistic practitioner and worked with him to identity the root causes of her Endometriosis, which led her to the world of metabolic health & mineral balance. The deeper she dove into the work of pioneers like Dr. Ray Peat & Morley Robbins, she realized that her symptoms were simply the result of metabolic dysfunction & mineral imbalance. The body can heal, but the foundation has to be in place. Her course, Freely Rooted, teaches women how to lay the foundation for the body to be able to thrive according to it’s beautiful design. She lives out her simple & outdoor lifestyle on a tropical island with her husband and 2 barefoot kids.

This story, to me, shares so much about the importance of fathers and father figures in our lives. I am so grateful for my father and the example he set for me in my life. With this story, you hopefully will see how hilarious and embarrassing it is on my end, but how beautiful it is in representing my father’s heart. So join me around the podcast table for another hilarious and thoughtful episode.

Fri, 05 Jun 2020 - 1h 20min - 15 - Y'all Interview: Ray Hughes
Y'all today is gonna be so much fun!
My guest today is the one and only Ray Hughes. I first heard Ray speak at a church service nearly 4 years ago and I was hooked by his way of teaching. HE TOLD STORIES. the kind that hold your attention and make you nostalgic for a time in which you never lived. He can share the gospel in a way that no one else can.
Ray is a husband, father, minister, well known speaker, world traveler, writer, poet, songwriter, podcaster, craftsman, and just a good old fashioned country boy. Born and raised in Kentucky, Ray can tell the stories of the south the way only a southern can tell them. I am so grateful and completely humbled to have had the opportunity to sit at his feet.
I originally was going to share his episode in 2021, but the words and truth that he has to share about the global pandemic we have faced was too good to wait around another year to share. Because of the pandemic, internet was well used and forced us to connect via facetime. Y'all I'm grateful for it. I felt like I was sitting with an old friend, just one I had never met before!
If you want to find more information about Ray, check out his website RayHughes.org OR check out his podcast called “The Listening Porch.” I assure you you will not be disappointed! I loved having Ray on the show and I hope you do the same!
