Attorneys for the two suspects in the murder of Jocelyn Nungaray are calling for a gag order in the case.  

Judge Josh Hill ultimately denied the request, but in court documents urged everyone involved to refrain from making extrajudicial comments on the case.

The 12-year-old girl's family heard in harsh detail what happened to Jocelyn. Prosecutors say she fought like a superhero, fighting with her dying breath, leaving visible marks.  Johan Jose Rangel Martinez and Franklin Jose Pena Ramos, tie her hands behind her back, bind her feet, take off her shirt, and abuse her for hours under a bridge in north Houston.  

Even though the police and the prosecutor believe Jocelyn was raped before she was strangled, the suspects are not charged with sexual assault as the rape kit results are still pending. The Harris County District Attorney, Kim Ogg, says they believe the evidence is clear that a sexual assault likely took place, but the defendants are not admitting yet.

However, if the lab tests confirm that 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray was raped, the capital murder charge can be upgraded to one where they are death penalty eligible.

In a dramatic court scene, a family member of Jocelyn Nungaray shouts "murderer" at Rangel-Martinez, while another shouts in Spanish, "I hope they kill your children."

It has been reported the suspected murderer has two children. 

Currently, both Martinez-Rangel and Peña are charged with capital murder, and a judge has set their bond at $10 million.

Caylee Anthony had been missing for five months before her small body was found near the Anthony home, wrapped in a blanket and placed inside a garbage bag, discarded in a wooded area. Her mother, Casey Anthony, was then charged with first-degree murder.

Since being acquitted by a jury, Anthony has made headlines several times, most recently for dating a married man and allegedly breaking up a 22-year marriage. She met her latest partner, Tyson Ray Rhodes, an engineer for an aerospace company, at a South Florida gym where they both worked out.

Rhodes and his wife of 22 years moved from South Florida to Tennessee earlier this year, and Anthony reportedly followed. The pair have been seen together at an upscale Tennessee apartment complex, getting into Rhodes' truck, both dressed in workout clothes.

One of Anthony's friends told the New York Post that Anthony doesn’t care if he’s married, saying, “All she knows is that he makes her feel good, and she likes that.” Rhodes is reportedly planning to file for divorce.

Several new lawsuits alleging sexual assault have brought Sean "Diddy" Combs' legal battles into double digits, with the latest filed by former "Making the Band" contestant Dawn Richard. The former Danity Kane singer claims the Bad Boy CEO manipulated her with promises to advance her music career in exchange for complying with his abusive demands.

Richard also details Combs' alleged abusive behavior toward his ex-girlfriends, Kim Porter and Cassie Ventura. She recalls seeing Porter leave a recording session in tears, with what appeared to be fresh injuries on her face. Richard also witnessed multiple incidents of violence involving Ventura.

Adria English, a dancer who performed at Combs' famous annual "White Party," has filed her own lawsuit, accusing him of grooming her for sex trafficking.

Combs was recently hit with a $100 million judgment for failing to appear in court for a separate lawsuit. He is now selling his multi-million dollar house in Los Angeles.

PhD student Nicole Virzi remains in custody on charges of homicide, aggravated assault, and endangering the welfare of children.

While visiting friends in Pittsburgh, Virzi cared for 6-week-old twins to give the mother a break. Both boys ended up in the hospital, and one died. EMTs transported Leon Katz and his father to the hospital shortly before midnight, but Nicole Virzi did not stay long.

She was seen returning to her Airbnb just before 1 a.m., struggling to unlock the door. By 5 a.m., Virzi appeared to be preparing to leave town. Security footage captured her making what seemed to be a hasty exit less than five hours later.

Although she was booked for two more nights at the apartment, Virzi appeared to be leaving. She was seen on security video leaving the building at 5:45 a.m. She reached for her phone and made a call while standing on the sidewalk.

At 5:47 a.m., Leon Katz was pronounced dead. Three minutes later, at 5:50 a.m., police arrived at the Airbnb, and two officers approached Virzi on the sidewalk, quickly placing her in a patrol car. She was then transported to police headquarters, where she agreed to questioning without an attorney present.

A request by Bryan Kohberger's defense team for a change of venue has been granted. His attorneys argued that the strong emotions in the community and extensive media coverage would make it impossible to find an impartial jury in Moscow.

The defense also claimed that if Kohberger were acquitted in the town where the murder took place, he could face lynching and riots might erupt. Prosecutors countered, saying any potential bias could be addressed by expanding the pool of potential jurors and carefully vetting them.

However, Judge John Judge ruled in favor of the defense, citing concerns about Kohberger's ability to receive a fair trial in the Latah County courthouse in Moscow.

He referenced the widespread media coverage and statements from public officials implying Kohberger’s guilt. Additionally, the judge noted practical concerns: the courthouse is too small to accommodate the case, and the county sheriff's office lacks the personnel to provide adequate security. The judge did not specify where the trial would be moved.

The Idaho Supreme Court will decide where Kohberger's trial will be held. According to Idaho court rules, judges who approve venue changes can indicate if they wish to remain on the case, but Judge John Judge did not do so, instead granting the motion under a rule that requires a new judge to be assigned.

It remains unclear when the Idaho Supreme Court will assign a new venue or judge, or whether these changes will delay the trial.

The father of the teen boy arrested in the mass shooting at a high school in Winder, Georgia, has also been arrested, held accountable for his son Colt Gray's actions.

Colin Gray faces charges including four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children. These charges stem from allowing his son to possess a weapon.

The FBI first investigated Colt Gray in May 2023 after receiving a tip about a school shooting threat via Discord, a gaming chat platform.

Colin Gray told investigators he had been teaching his son about "firearms and safety" and how to hunt. He stated that if his son had made any threats, he "would be mad as hell and then all the guns would be taken away."

Colt denied making threats. After the investigation, Colin Gray purchased his son an AR-15-style rifle as a gift.

Fake German heiress Anna Sorokin conned her way into Manhattan society.

Using the alias Anna Delvey, she swindled banks, hotels, and friends out of more than $200,000. She forged checks to obtain money from banks and charmed others into covering extravagant meals and travel expenses.

Sorokin was convicted on multiple counts of grand larceny and theft of services. After serving her sentence, the 31-year-old was released from prison and is now fighting deportation.

Despite this, Sorokin continues to find success. She secured a deal with Netflix for the rights to her life story and began selling her artwork. Sorokin also commented that her home confinement and social media ban feel “more restrictive” than jail. She now says her ankle monitor has turned her into a spectacle.

Eight unsealed warrants are giving new insights into the investigation of Sade Robinson’s murder. Newly released surveillance images show Sade meeting Anderson at the Twisted Fisherman for their date. The warrants also reveal police are reviewing employment records and surveillance from Victor’s nightclub. Anderson reportedly worked at Victor’s, a club that one of Sade’s coworkers says they frequented. Investigators are trying to determine how Sade met Maxwell Anderson.

Also, a friend of Anderson’s is now working with law enforcement as a confidential informant. The CI tells investigators in early March, Anderson spoke of a plan to lure Sade Robinson to his home, then force her into the basement at gunpoint, where he would shoot her, then dismember her body and scatter the remains. The CI says Anderson showed him the basement, where Anderson had taped plastic paint protectors to the walls and floor. The CI says there were three saws in the prepped basement.

Disturbing information has emerged in the Madeline Soto murder case as police release interviews with her mother, Jennifer Soto, and details of Maddie’s cause of death.

During Madeline Soto’s autopsy, the medical examiner, Dr. Stephan Giles, raised concerns about her hyoid bone. Dr. Giles noted that the right portion of the bone was not intact, suggesting possible strangulation. The autopsy confirmed that Madeline Soto died from strangulation, and her death was ruled a homicide.

Investigators discovered shocking internet searches on a computer used by Stephan Sterns, including a search for Sevoflurane, a volatile anesthetic used for hypnosis, amnesia, analgesia, akinesia, and autonomic blockade during surgical procedures.

Another released detail revealed that the socks Maddie was wearing were clean, indicating her feet never touched the ground while wearing them. This is significant, as Maddie’s body was found in a wooded area behind a locked fence. Police believe her body was either dropped over the barbed wire fence or carried through the gate before being moved to the location where she was found.

Sarah Boone called 911, telling the operator that she and her boyfriend had been playing around, and she fell asleep.

When she woke up the next morning, Jorge Torres, Jr. was dead inside a suitcase, but that isn't exactly true. Although it's unclear how Boone convinced her 42-year-old boyfriend to get into the suitcase, we do know she zipped him inside and refused to let him out, no matter how much he begged. We know this because Boone recorded the incident on her phone, taunting Torres as he said he couldn't breathe and pleaded to be released.

Boone claims the couple had been drinking a bottle of wine and decided to play hide-and-seek. Court records show Torres had been in the suitcase for about three hours when Boone says she fell asleep, waking up late the next day. She says she then remembered Torres was still in the suitcase, pulled him out, found his body was purple, and attempted CPR. However, she also called her ex-husband before dialing 911.

Boone, 46, is now charged with second-degree murder in Jorge Torres's death, with her trial expected to begin on October 7. One of the main issues in preparing for trial has been Boone's inability to retain an attorney.

Eight attorneys have withdrawn from the case due to difficulties working with her. A judge previously told Boone she would have to represent herself, but a ninth attorney, James Owens, has now stepped in to defend her.

Owens requested a continuance to prepare Boone's defense, but the judge denied the request.

Rex Heuermann was initially arrested and charged in the deaths of the women known in the press as "The Gilgo Four": Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

A year later, Heuermann faces additional charges of second-degree murder in the killings of two more women, Jessica Taylor and Sandra Castillo, who were found in the same area as the Gilgo Four.

After his arrest, investigators seized several electronic devices from Heuermann, including a laptop containing a secret Microsoft Word document titled "HK2002-04," which they describe as a "blueprint" for the architect's murders.

Even more disturbing, investigators believe that the alleged serial killer Rex Heuermann may have kept his victims alive for several days to inflict pain and torture. They have used the family's calendars to determine when Heuermann was alone in the house while his wife and children were away, comparing those dates to when some of his alleged victims went missing.

Russell and Shirley Dermond live in a beautiful lakefront property, Lake Oconee, Georgia.

The couple is expected at a Kentucky Derby watch party with neighbors, but don’t show up. When the neighbors reach out by phone, the Dermonds don’t answer. Days later, arriving at the Dermond’s home, the neighbor is surprised to find the front door unlocked. The neighbor calls out their names to no reply.  

The neighbor looks in the garage to see if the Dermond’s car is there. The neighbor discovers Russell Dermond laying on the garage floor, decapitated.  The neighbor calls 911, racing around the house looking for Shirley Dermond, but she is nowhere to be found.  

Investigators begin a neighborhood search and beyond for Shirley Dermond, without success.  The search lasts for 10 days until two fishermen find her body in lake Oconee. Shirley Dermond has been dumped in the lake with cinder blocks tied to her legs. Her body is recovered about 5 miles from the Dermond home near the dam.

In 1973, Martha and Flora Helmick went to a family reunion with Martha's employer, World War I War Hero,  John Keyton. The trio left Bridgewater, Virginia on August 3, 1973, but never arrived in Kentucky for the family reunion. As word spread about the WW1 War Hero and sisters vanishing, a search was conducted, but nothing was ever found. On this episode of Body Bags Joseph Scott Morgan will explain how a bone found in a car that was found by firefighters during a training exorcise in the Kentucky River helped solve a 45 year old mystery.

Here are some of our top stories this week. A Las Vegas jury does not buy politician Robert Telles' claims that he is being frame. The former attorney is convicted in the stabbing death of investigative reporter Jeff German.

Jeff German, an investigative reporter for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, was found dead outside his home.

Days later, police released surveillance footage of a potential suspect wearing a wide-brimmed straw hat, an orange safety shirt, and black pants, seen walking near the scene. Further investigation revealed that German’s reporting had placed him in conflict with elected Public Administrator Robert Telles.

Earlier, German had reported that Telles created a toxic work environment and was having an extramarital affair with an employee. These allegations seemingly contributed to Telles losing his re-election bid. Investigators searched Telles’ home, towing a red SUV and discovering shoes with apparent blood on them. A straw hat matching the one in the video was also found.

Both items had been cut up in an attempt to destroy evidence, but DNA under German’s fingernails provided police with crucial evidence. Telles was arrested for German’s murder and has now been convicted.

A West Virginia works to make a new home for her children, after a suspicious fire burns the house she inherited from her father. Brittany Horn accepts an offer from her mom to live with her until new plans can be made. Brittany seems to be settling in well and on the afternoon of June 12th,  tells her mother that she will be back after spending time with some friend. Brittany leaves the home on foot, wearing a pink shirt, jean shorts, and white Nike sneakers. Her hair is in a braid and she’s carrying a small tan backpack. This is the last time Mary Horn ever sees her daughter.   

When Brittany has not returned in 10 days and isn’t answering calls or texts, Mary Horn reports her daughter missing to West Virginia State police. Mary and sons Kevin and Neil spend days putting up fliers with pictures of Brittany. Brittany doesn’t drive, so the family focuses on foot searches starting from her mother’s home. They find no sign of Brittany. As the news of Brittany’s disappearance spreads, the family begins to receive tips from Brittany’s friends.   

A friend of Brittany’s claims he gave her a ride to a home in Louisa, Kentucky on June 12th.  Brittany’s childhood best friend also comes forward, telling police she received a frantic voicemail from Brittany on June 13th.  In the message, Brittany says she’s scared, trying to leave Louisa and get back home.  

A year after Brittany’s disappearance, with little progress from the West Virginia State Police, the lead investigator in Brittany’s case, Trooper Corey Maynard, is ambushed while responding to a shooting call in Mingo County. Maynard is shot several times, and dies of his injuries. Brittany’s case has to be reassigned, and a new investigator starts from scratch, losing more precious time searching for Brittany.

Ethan Katz and Savannah Roberts have much to celebrate. It’s not only Father’s Day weekend and Ethan’s birthday weekend, but also the couple’s anniversary.

Savannah recently gave birth to their twin sons, now 6 weeks old. Family friend Nicole Virzi traveled from San Diego to Pittsburgh to visit and lend a helping hand. While caring for the twin boys, Ari and Leon, Nicole Virzi tells the parents she noticed unusual injuries on Ari’s genitals.

Around 6:30 p.m., the new parents take Ari to the hospital, leaving their other son, Leon Katz, in Virzi’s care. Just after 11 p.m., Ethan Katz and Savannah Roberts receive a call from Nicole Virzi, informing them that while she was in the kitchen preparing a bottle for Leon, the baby fell from his bouncer seat and hit his head.

Nicole Virzi tells the 911 dispatcher that Leon fell from a bassinet, hit his head, and is becoming unresponsive. When the police arrive, Virzi tells them she fell asleep with the baby in his bouncer seat. When she wakes up, she goes to the kitchen to prepare a bottle. While she is out of the room, she hears Leon screaming and finds him on the floor with a bump on his head. She tells the police he fell out of his bouncer seat.

Rushed to the hospital, doctors discover Leon Katz has a severe skull fracture on the left side of his head and multiple brain bleeds. The injuries suffered by the 6-week-old baby prove fatal, and he is pronounced dead the next morning at Children’s Hospital.

Police say Virzi has no “plausible explanation” for the severity of Leon’s injuries. Upon examining the bouncer seat, detectives report that it is about 18 inches from the highest point of the seat to the floor.

Doctors inform investigators about the injuries sustained by Leon’s twin brother, Ari. He has small scratches on both sides of his face, two bruises below his belly button, and swelling, bruising, redness, and scratches on his genitals. The doctor who examined the injuries to both boys states they are consistent with child abuse, noting that these injuries were inflicted and not accidental. All of Leon’s injuries are described as “acute."

Prosecutors have already implicated Jasveen Sangha, known as the "Ketamine Queen," who sold the drug involved in Matthew Perry's death.

She is also connected to other customer deaths, and prosecutors believe there are likely more victims given the volume of drugs Sangha sold. Sangha remains in custody without bond in connection with Perry's death. Drug dealer Eric Fleming, who reportedly served as a program director at the Bel-Air rehab Red Door, also had a resident die of an overdose while under his watch.

Additionally, Brooke Mueller’s close connections to suspects Fleming and Sangha have emerged. Mueller spent time with Sangha during one of her rehab stints, and Fleming is reportedly a godfather to one of Mueller’s children.

Mueller is said to have pressured her then-boyfriend William Cooney to join Fleming’s rehab program, where Cooney overdosed and died. Mueller may have introduced Fleming and Sangha to Perry as a means to facilitate his addiction. Federal prosecutors report that Mueller is cooperating with the investigation and is not facing any charges.

Court documents reveal the close ties between Sangha, Fleming, and assistant Kenneth Iwamasa. Iwamasa told Fleming he "cleaned up the scene" by disposing of ketamine vials and syringes and "deleted everything."

Fleming then informed Sangha that he believed they were protected since he never dealt with Perry directly, only through Iwamasa, who would be considered Perry's "enabler." In their communications, Sangha and Fleming refer to Perry using the code name "Chandler."

The doctor directly implicated in Matthew Perry’s ketamine overdose, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, continues to practice at his Calabasas urgent care clinic. The clinic remains open but must post details of Plasencia’s felony case at the front door.

While Plasencia still holds an active medical license, he has surrendered his DEA registration number and is not permitted to prescribe controlled substances. Dr. Mark Chavez faces similar restrictions.

After years in prison, Scott Peterson is speaking out for the first time about the murder of his wife, Laci.

In the Peacock network's "Face To Face with Scott Peterson," he continues to assert that he did not kill the mother of his unborn child and presents an alternative theory. Peterson suggests that the heavily pregnant Laci may have gone across the street to confront thieves.

Peterson says he expected to be home after court until the verdict was read. Responding to allegations that he killed Laci because he didn't want to be married, Peterson states, "That's so offensive, that's so disgusting. I just don't get that argument, and it's absolutely not true." He admits to regretting his infidelity, acknowledging that he was an "a--hole," but insists he did not kill his wife.

Investigators searching for Mamta Bhatt arrived at her home with search warrants and were shocked to find the house in disarray upon entering the front door.

They noticed packed luggage and, in plain view, passports belonging to Mamta's husband, Naresh, and their daughter, Neema. Inside the home, officers used Bluestar Technology, a forensic tool that reveals invisible blood traces at crime scenes, uncovering pools of blood and blood spatter throughout the house. In the master bedroom, the bed had been moved to block access to the closet. After moving the bed, detectives observed a light pink stain on the carpet, which they suspected to be blood.

Following the discovery of the light pink stain in the master bedroom, investigators noticed what appeared to be a blood trail leading from the bedroom to the master bathroom. Using Bluestar technology in the bathroom, detectives were shocked as the entire bathroom floor illuminated with what appeared to be blood.

In the master bathroom, investigators carefully removed the bathtub and confirmed, with the naked eye, what they believed to be blood—not only around the tub area but also trapped in the caulking. Investigators suspect that Naresh Bhatt killed his wife, dragged her body, creating a blood trail, and concealed it in a location that has yet to be discovered.

Although the body has not been found, investigators believe the amount of blood detected in the master bedroom and bathroom is inconsistent with survival. Naresh Bhatt has been charged with murdering his wife and concealing her body.

What began as an investigation into the suicide of a popular high school athlete uncovered an international sextortion ring.

On Twitter, Jordan Demay received a message from a user named Dani Roberts, who convinced him to send explicit photos. Moments later, the situation turned dark. "Dani Roberts" demanded money, threatening to send the photos to Jordan’s family and friends if he didn’t comply. Jordan sent all the money he had, but the demands continued. Six hours later, Jordan Demay took his own life.

Days after Jordan’s death, his girlfriend received one of his explicit photos and went to the police. Marquette County Sheriff's detectives, working with the FBI, traced "Dani Roberts'" IP address to Nigeria. Three Nigerian men—Ezekiel Robert and brothers Samuel and Samson Ogoshi—were linked to Jordan’s case and over 100 other victims.

Five U.S. citizens are now accused of facilitating the sextortion scams, handling payments from victims, and transferring the money to Nigeria. Prosecutors allege the defendants laundered nearly $200,000 for the scammers.

In a significant ruling, the South Carolina Supreme Court will determine whether interference from a court clerk influenced the jury's decision to convict Alex Murdaugh of killing his wife, Maggie, and youngest son, Paul.

Murdaugh's lawyers allege that Becky Hill, the court clerk, attempted to sway the jury to secure a conviction in order to promote a book she is writing about the case, particularly focusing on the trial.

Concerns about potential jury tampering were raised during the trial. Trial Judge Clifton Newman addressed the issue in an in-chambers discussion with defense and prosecution attorneys, expressing concern that court clerk Becky Hill might have had inappropriate contact with at least one juror, who was later dismissed from the trial.

Following the trial, Murdaugh's attorneys sought to have Newman barred from hearing any appeals in the case; however, Newman retired before a decision was made. His replacement, retired Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court, Judge Jean Toal, ultimately rejected the claims of jury tampering.

The South Carolina Supreme Court has now overturned Judge Toal's decision, meaning the state Supreme Court will consider whether Alex Murdaugh should be granted a retrial.

Teenagers have been arrested in connection with the death of a mother of eight, who was gunned down after a confrontation with suspected drug dealers.

Blanca Velasco noticed a blue Toyota sedan parked outside her home for an extended period. Feeling suspicious, her daughter Maria Ramos accompanied Velasco down the driveway to investigate the unfamiliar car. In the street, the men in the car claimed they had come to deliver an “order” to Velasco’s 16-year-old grandson and flashed a marijuana vape pen. The two women argued with the men, prompting the blue Toyota to speed away.

Determined to keep the dealers from returning, the mother and grandmother got into their own car and followed the Toyota for two blocks. Suddenly, the Toyota screeched to a stop, and Blanca Velasco stopped just behind it. Maria got out to approach the car, and before retreating across the street, she pepper-sprayed the occupants.

A man in the backseat, armed with a gun, got out and chased Maria down the street before opening fire. Blanca pulled closer to the Toyota in an attempt to shield her daughter, who was trying to take cover from the gunfire. As Blanca turned back toward the Toyota, the shooter re-entered the vehicle and aimed the loaded gun at her. Panicked, Blanca sped away with the blue Toyota in pursuit.

Blanca eventually lost the Toyota in traffic and returned to search for Maria but couldn’t find her. Then, she spotted her daughter lying on the sidewalk in a pool of blood.

Zahriya Moreno and Angelito Olivas have been dating for over a year. During a heated argument, Zahriya climbs onto the trunk of Olivas’ car.

Despite knowing she is on the car, Olivas floors it and drives off. He doesn't stop until he realizes Zahriya is no longer on the vehicle—she has been thrown off. Backtracking, Olivas finds Zahriya on the ground, completely unresponsive after being hurled from the moving vehicle.

Angelito Olivas then loads his unresponsive girlfriend into his car and drives her to the Drexel Heights Fire Department in Tucson. The 22-year-old is unresponsive and in extremely critical condition. She is immediately transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Zahriya Moreno is kept alive artificially so her organs can be donated.

Angelito Olivas is arrested on charges of felony domestic violence, aggravated assault, and felony endangerment. However, outrage erupts when Olivas is granted a $2,500 bond and walks free the same day he’s arrested.

More details being revealed after the arrest of 5 people in the death of actor Mathew Perry. Federal Prosecutors allege that Perry first obtains ketamine from an unscrupulous doctor aiming to take advantage of the actor’s addiction issues. Dr. Salvador Plasencia teaches Perry’s live-in assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa how to administer the drug, and provides ketamine to both Perry and Iwamasa at exorbitant prices. When the drugs become too expensive, Perry and Iwamasa turn to street dealers   Assistant Kenneth Iwamasa reaches out to several street dealers. Eric Fleming agrees to a deal, and turns to his supplier Jasveen Sangha, dubbed “The Ketamine Queen.”  Fleming pays Sangha for the drugs with cash from Iwamasa. 

In two weeks, Sangha provides Fleming and Iwamasa 50 vials of ketamine to distribute to Perry for $11,000. When news of Perry’s death begins to circulate, Sangha texts Fleming, “Delete all of our messages.”

Ballerina and aspiring model Ashley Benefield is standing trial for shooting her then-husband, Doug Benefield, to death. The couple married just 13 days after meeting. They had a child, but their relationship was rocky, with frequent arguments reported between Ashley and Doug Benefield.

Ashley Benefield claims her husband was abusive and volatile. As her pregnancy progressed, she moved in with her mother, denying Doug Benefield access to information about the baby, including her birth.

Ashley Benefield planned to move out. Doug Benefield arrived at Ashley's home with a U-Haul truck to help pack for a move to Maryland. He believed he would be moving with the family but intended to live in a separate home.

Ashley Benefield claims that Doug became angry while loading the truck, "body checked" her twice, hit her hip with the corner of a box, and caused her head to hit the wall. Fearing for her life, Ashley ran to her bedroom and retrieved a gun.

She turned around and saw Doug standing in the doorway. Claiming Doug lunged toward her, Ashley fired the gun, shooting him twice—once in the leg and once in the chest, causing damage to his lungs and severe bleeding. It was determined that Doug was not directly facing Ashley at the time he was killed.

Dueling documentaries are being released about the death of Laci Peterson and her unborn son, Conner.

Netflix is debuting American Murder: Laci Peterson, a three-part docuseries directed by Skye Borgman. The series includes Laci's mother, Sharon Rocha, speaking publicly for the first time since Laci’s tragic death. The second documentary, Face to Face with Scott Peterson, is a new three-part series premiering on Peacock on August 20. In this series, Scott Peterson, who was accused of the murder, speaks for the first time in the 21 years since his arrest.

Peterson reportedly admits to being unfaithful, calling himself a “total a-hole” for having an affair, but continues to deny killing Laci. Peterson was involved with Amber Frey at the time of Laci's disappearance. It was Laci’s stepfather, Ron Grantski, who reported her missing, not her husband. Initially, Scott Peterson told friends he had gone to play golf, but later changed his story to say he went fishing. Peterson has been fighting for years to overturn his conviction.

Although his death sentence was initially overturned, the California Supreme Court upheld his conviction while overturning the death sentence due to the improper dismissal of some jurors based on their views on the death penalty. Peterson remains in prison, sentenced to life without parole, but he is not giving up. In an effort to secure a new trial, Scott Peterson's legal team requested DNA testing on more than a dozen pieces of evidence.

However, after hearing the arguments, the judge ruled that only a single 15.5-inch piece of duct tape found on Laci Peterson's pants during her autopsy would be tested for DNA. The court denied requests to test all other evidence.

The murder trial of former Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles has begun.

A jury of seven men and seven women has been selected. Telles, 47, is accused of stabbing investigative journalist Jeff German outside the reporter's home. German had written several explosive articles for the Las Vegas Review-Journal exposing bullying, harassment, and an inappropriate relationship within Telles' office.

A suspect was caught on surveillance video walking to the home, wearing an orange shirt with reflective stripes, a straw hat, and carrying a duffel bag. Police say that on the morning of the incident, the suspect approached German's home, went to the side of the house, and shortly after, German emerged from the garage door, went to the side of the house, and was ultimately stabbed.

Telles is facing four charges: murder with a deadly weapon, burglary of a motor vehicle, and two counts of destruction of evidence.

New mom Mamta Bhatt, a pediatric nurse, doesn't show up for her regular shift at Prince William Hospital. Her absence is so out of character that her co-workers start reaching out to find out what's wrong. When they can't reach Mamta, hospital administrators contact the Manassas Park Police, urgently requesting a welfare check.

The Manassas Park Police Department states that Mamta is missing under "involuntary circumstances" and that "this case is active and ongoing.

What we can share at this time is the following: investigators have conducted several follow-ups with neighbors, friends, co-workers, and the husband. They are also utilizing several investigative tools in an attempt to locate Mamta Kafle Bhatt."

It’s been 6 years since Chris Watts murdered his wife Shannan Watts and their two children Bella and Celeste. Now the 39 year old killer says he is afraid for his life.

When Stacy Hunsucker died, it was initially believed the mother of two had suffered a heart attack.

She had a history of heart issues and used a pacemaker after being hospitalized following the birth of her second daughter. Just two days after her death, her husband, Joshua Hunsucker, began the process of filing for Stacy’s life insurance benefits and started a relationship with a co-worker less than a month after the funeral. Within six months, his new girlfriend moved into the family home. Stacy Hunsucker’s mother found the situation highly suspicious, as did the North Carolina Department of Insurance, which had paid out the life insurance.

Joshua Hunsucker refused an autopsy for his wife, telling doctors he couldn’t bear the thought of her being cut open, and had Stacy’s body cremated. The NCDI later discovered that Stacy was an organ donor and that a vial of her blood had been stored. Tests on the blood revealed Stacy had a lethal amount of tetrahydrozoline, the active ingredient in eye drops, in her bloodstream at the time of her death.

Once this was determined, the findings were turned over to the Gaston County Sheriff’s Office. Fifteen months after Stacy Hunsucker’s death, Joshua Hunsucker was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

While out on bail, Joshua Hunsucker rushed his 10-year-old daughter to the hospital with alarming symptoms, including low blood pressure, a low heart rate, extreme exhaustion, and constricted blood vessels.

Doctors at CaroMont Regional Medical Center were stumped, and the girl was transferred to Levine Children’s Hospital. There, a urine test revealed she had a large amount of THZ, the same drug that killed her mother, in her system. The tests also found traces of an antidepressant found in Joshua Hunsucker’s car.

Joshua Hunsucker has now been arrested on eight new felony charges: four counts each of witness intimidation and obstruction of justice.

Twelve-year-old Maria lives with her father, Andres Gomez, and cousin, Ricky, in Gainesville, Georgia. Maria's mother is not involved in her life.

On the morning of her disappearance, Andres leaves the house at 10 AM, assuming Maria is still asleep. He says goodbye to his nephew, Ricky, and heads out. When Gomez returns home that evening, Maria doesn’t greet him at the door. Concerned, he knocks on her bedroom door, only to find that his 12-year-old daughter is missing. The family frantically contacts neighbors and friends in search of her. Maria is reported missing.

Nearly two months later, the case takes a turn. Maria contacts her father via Facebook Messenger. Investigators trace the IP address and manage to locate the device. Maria is found with 31-year-old Antonio Augustin, a Guatemalan native living in northeastern Ohio. Police believe Maria had been communicating with Augustin online for some time.

Some people say Gyspy-Rose Blanchard is Munchhausen-by-proxy survivor, the victim of her own mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. And they would be right. Some people say Gyspy-Rose Blanchard is a murderer, and they too, would be right.  After lifelong physical, mental, and medical abuse, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard met a disturbed young man online and concocted a plan to getaway from Dee Dee Blanchard and begin her life as an adult. But Dee Dee would have to die. The crime scene was shocking, and now the pictures are out in the public. On this episode of Body Bags,  Joseph Scott Morgan is going to explain why the photos were taken to begin with and how pictures at a crime scene actually do more than just document what has happened, sometimes they can help investigators discover a lot more.

Fake German heiress Anna Sorokin conned her way into Manhattan society.

Posing as Anna Delvey, a German heiress, she swindled banks, hotels, and friends out of more than $200,000. She forged checks to get money from banks and charmed people into paying for extravagant meals, and travel.

Sorokin was convicted on a handful of grand larceny and theft of services charges. After serving her time, the 31-year-old was released from prison, now, fighting being deported, but again Sorokin falls on her feet. First, she landed a deal with Netflix for the rights to her life story, then began selling her artwork, and now, Sorokin said her home confinement and social media ban is “more restrictive” than jail.

Now her artwork is making a splash.

On social media, Pastor Jonathon Elwing calls himself a husband, father, child of God, and serving Christ as a minister of his Gospel.   So, when the Manatee County Sheriff's office gets a tip from cryptocurrency company "coin base" that the 43-year-old Senior Pastor of Palm View Baptist Church may have used cryptocurrency to buy child pornography, investigators know you can't judge a book by its cover.  The Manatee County Sheriff's office secures a search warrant for Jonathon Elwing's home and Palm View Baptist Church.   

Elwing gives investigators the passcode for his personal phone. And as the investigator  begins to look, Jonathon Elwing admits he sometimes purchases adult pornography from a "third party."  He adds it is possible that child pornography would be a part the purchase without his knowledge. Elwing says when he sees the child pornography images or videos, he deletes them.   

Still, cops find four of the items located on Elwing's personal cellphone depict Child Sexual Abuse Material while still at the home. Infact, the forensic search of Jonathon Elwing's cell phone reveals images of him sexually battering a child, along with production and possession of 12 images child sexual abuse material. Then,  investigators are able to extract hidden files from Elwing's personal cellphone and deputies say he is using a private photo vault app to hide at least 14 pictures of him sexually abusing a two-year-old child.

Shocking video released of the moments leading up to a devastating crash that claimed four lives at a nail salon on Long Island.  The horrific footage appears to show the ex-marine visibly disheveled, buying liquor, before getting behind the wheel of his SUV and allegedly turning his vehicle into a deadly battering ram. 

Stephen Schwally is seen on video speeding through a parking lot at close to 80-miles-per-hour, almost hitting pedestrians in a crosswalk before charging at full-speed into the Hawaii Nail & Spa. The video appears to show no deceleration from Schwally's vehicle, and the sound of screams can be heard from the salon as customers are seen running out of other businesses to see what is happening. 

Inside Hawaii Nail & Salon, four people are dead, 9 others injured, some very seriously. One of those killed is NYPD Officer, Emilia Rennhack. The 30-year-old was assigned to the 102nd precinct in Queens where her husband, Carl Rennhack, is a detective. The Rennhacks were a month away from celebrating their one-year anniversary. Emilia Rennhack was getting her nails done for a friend's upcoming wedding. 

41-year-old Yan Xu, and 50-year-old  Meizi Zhang both worked at Hawaii Nail & Salon and were also killed in the crash. Yan Xu's family is seeking help in a fundraiser on GoFundMe to raise money for the care of her elderly father and her 12-year-old son, who has polio. 

Kenny Chen, the manager of Hawaii Nail & Salon is among the 4 killed when the SUV crashed through the salon at nearly 80 miles per hour. Chen's wife was also at the salon at the time, and she is critically injured. She has already had one surgery with more to come, doctors say her recovery will take at least two years.  The Chen's have two children, ages ten and five, and with their father dead and the mother facing multiple surgeries and years of recovery, a GoFundMe is set up by a nephew who says with the salon their only source of income, with Kenny Chen dead and his wife critically injured, they don't know where to turn for help.

Melissa Patton grows up in Locust Grove, Georgia with her parents and older sister, Tina. In high school, Melissa is head over heels for Christopher Wolfenbarger. The two quickly marry after graduating and move to Atlanta with their baby daughter Christina. When the couple welcomes a son, Joey, they settle in a duplex. Melissa works alongside her sister near the airport.

Thanksgiving Day, Melissa Wolfenbarger visits her parents, Carl and Norma Patton. Melissa is excited for the holidays and asks her mother for a very specific gift. When Melissa doesn’t even call Christmas day, Norma Patton is unsettled. Melissa doesn’t have a cell phone or a car, so Norma assumes her daughter is busy with her own family and will pick up her gifts later. When Melissa doesn’t wish her mom a happy birthday two months later, Norma Patton asks family members if anyone has seen her. Tina Patton realizes Melissa hasn’t worked a shift with her in months.  Then, Melissa misses her mother's birthday. 

Atlanta PD finds a severed human skull, that rolled out of a ripped trash bag in the middle of Avon Avenue.  Just over a month later, four more trash bags are discovered two blocks down Avon in wooded area. Inside are a pair of legs and arms. Police cannot locate a torso. It would be more than four years before the body is identified as Melissa Wolfenbarger, and 25 years before police arrest her killer.

After several pre-trial hearings, it seems that everyone connected to the murders of Abigail Williams and Libby German is absolutely certain of who killed the girls, but they cannot agree on who that person is. Richard Allen is set to stand trial on October 15th, but theories that an Odinist cult, sex traffickers, or a now-dead violent man attacked the girls are muddying the waters.   

Testimony during the hearings confirms several details about the crime scene. Both Abby and Libby’s throats are cut, and the girls bodies are covered with branches. Libby is found completely nude, and Abby is dressed in both hers and some of Libby’s clothing. Aside from the neck area, the clothing found on Abby is mostly clean. 

Prosecutor Nicholas McLeland believes the case against Richard Allen, 51, is air tight, after discovering over 60 recorded confessions by the accused killer in jail phone calls to his wife and mother. McLeland says just over a year ago, Allen began speaking about the murders in very specific detail with almost anyone who would listen. A fellow inmate even testifies that Allen revealed to him that he killed the girls with a box cutter, which Allen later disposed of in a CVS dumpster.  

However, defense attorney Bradley Rozzi argues that Allen’s numerous confessions are not valid and should not be allowed into evidence. Rozzi argues that Allen’s mental state is degrading due to near constant solitary confinement, fueling his client’s admissions of guilt. Rozzi goes on to show the details Allen describes are inaccurate. In one recording, Allen tearfully expresses regret for molesting the girls, but their autopsies do not show any signs of rape or sexual abuse.  

On the witness stand, Dr. Monica Wala, an Indiana Department of Corrections psychologist treating Richard Allen, claims that she noticed the accused killer spiraling just before the confessions began.  Walla testifies that staff is providing Allen anti-psychotic medication at least once a month. 

While Special Judge Fran Gull has yet to rule on the admissibility of Richard Allen’s many confessions, testimony did sway her to vacate a “safekeeping” order and remove Allen from the Westville Correctional Facility. Allen will instead be held at the Cass County Jail for the remainder of his pre-trial lock up.

Ellen Greenberg is a first-grade teacher in Philadelphia.  At 27-years-old she and longtime boyfriend Sam Goldberg have just sent out "save the date" cards for their upcoming wedding.  A blizzard is bearing down on Philadelphia and school has dismissed everyone early. Home with her fiancé, Sam Goldberg leaves around 4:45 pm to work out in the apartment complex gym. When Sam arrives back less than an hour later, the door is locked from the inside. 

Over the next 20 plus minutes, Sam pounds on the door, texts, and calls Ellen, but she doesn't reply. He breaks down the door at 6:33 pm. He finds Ellen on the floor of the kitchen, stabbed 20 times in the chest, neck, and head. As he is on the phone with 911, they ask him to perform CPR, and he tells them there is a knife still stuck in her chest. First responders arrive within minutes and Ellen is pronounced dead at 6:40 pm. 

Police investigate. Initially, the medical examiner declares Ellen's death as a homicide, but later after meeting with police, that finding is changed to suicide. Ever since the day the medical examiner changed the manner of death from homicide to suicide without any explanation, Ellen Greenberg's parents, Josh and Sandee Greenberg, have fought to have the ruling changed.   Josh and Sandee Greenberg file a lawsuit against the city of Philadelphia, seeking to have the manner of Ellen's death changed back to homicide, or at least, undetermined, but the suit grinds to a halt when the Commonwealth Court rules against Josh and Sandee Greenberg. In the ruling, the judges acknowledged that the investigation of Ellen Greenberg's death was a “deeply flawed investigation” by the Philadelphia Police, the District Attorney’s Office and the Medical Examiner’s Office. But none of that matters because the court says Josh and Sandee Greenberg don't have standing in the case.  Attorney Joseph Podraza says they will take the case to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. 

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court is now going to hear the Greenberg's case saying  it will consider whether “executors and administrators of an estate have standing to challenge an erroneous finding recorded on the decedent’s death certificate where that finding constitutes a bar or material impediment to recovery of victim’s compensation, restitution or for wrongful death, as well as private criminal complaints.”

Police arrive at the apartment of Fasil Teklemariam in Washington DC for a call of an unconscious person. Police quickly note that Fasil is more than unconscious, he is dead. Multiple stab wounds, and it appears that one of his thumbs has been cut off. Anna Moriah Wilson was in Texas to race 150-mile Gravel Locas competition. She's bunking at the home of friend Caitlyn Cash. After an evening of swimming with fellow  cyclist, Colin Strickland, Wilson returns to Cash's home for the evening. When Cash arrived however, she finds Wilson in a pool of blood in the bathroom. Wilson has been shot multiple times.  Police find surveillance video of a black SUV seen outside near the time of Wilson's death. The SUV is tracked to Colin Strickland girlfriend, Kaitlyn Armstrong. Armstrong is convicted of murder. Now she tries to avoid paying the victim's family.

It’s a Friday morning, and Elizabeth Barraza picks up Starbucks coffee to sip with her husband before he heads off to work and she sets up for a garage sale.

As Elizabeth sets up in the driveway, a black truck pulls up. The driver gets out and approaches Elizabeth. She says good morning and they interact for a moment before the driver pulls a handgun and shoots Elizabeth three times. While she is on the ground, the driver shoots her again, then runs back to the truck and drives off.

Rylan Oncale meets his girlfriend, Taliyah Crochet, and two friends just after finishing his first 28-day shift as a deckhand on an oil rig.

The teens enjoy a much-needed night out together on dry land, then pile into Rylan’s Kia Rio to head back to Raceland, taking Highway 3090 inland from the coast.

As Rylan drives through the 1 a.m. darkness, he spots a set of headlights coming towards him. As the car gets closer, Rylan realizes the oncoming Jeep is driving in his lane. Rylan swerves into the left lane to avoid the wrong-way driver, but the Jeep also moves into the left lane and slams into the teens head-on.

The front end of Rylan’s Kia Rio is completely caved in. First responders arrive within minutes, pulling the occupants from the wreckage, but Taliyah is already gone. Rylan is rushed to a hospital, where he also dies of his injuries. The couple’s two friends riding in the back seat also have serious injuries but are stabilized at the hospital.

The Jeep Cherokee is occupied only by driver Axel Flores-Cordoza, who is found completely unharmed despite not wearing a seatbelt. Flores-Cordoza, 18, is unlicensed, has open alcohol in his cupholder, and is clearly drunk.

The teen voluntarily submits to a breath test that results in a BAC just under .14, equivalent to seven times the .02 legal limit in Louisiana for drivers under 21, and nearly twice the limit for drivers of legal drinking age.

Special Judge Frances Gull is hearing arguments on several motions in the Delphi Murders trial of Richard Allen. The judge will consider six topics: Richard Allen's safekeeping, psychologist statements, suppression of some of Richard Allen's previous statements, discovery issues that continue to plague the case, a defense request to dismiss the case, and what both sides can say in front of jurors without specific permission from the judge.

The defense seeks four sanctions. They want the court to inform jurors that the prosecution violated rules by delaying the turnover of exculpatory evidence. They also want the judge to allow the defense to play any video that was "belatedly produced" without state objection. Additionally, the defense aims to prevent the state from rebutting evidence provided by former Rushville police chief Todd Click on May 1, 2023, and they want to bar the prosecution from using any data or information from Liberty German's phone in evidentiary presentations.

The state wants to limit what the defense can mention in front of jurors without prior approval from the judge. Prosecutors have several pages of items they seek to restrict, including personal attacks on the prosecutor and any attempt to introduce evidence of third-party motive that is not relevant or would unfairly prejudice jurors.

This includes mentions of Odinism, ritualistic killings, names of others the defense might claim are connected to the killings, geofencing, references to how discovery was handled, and any mention of an investigation conducted by former Rushville Police Chief Todd Click.

Ballerina and aspiring model Ashley Benefield is standing trial for shooting her then-husband, Doug Benefield, to death. The couple married just 13 days after meeting. They had a child, but their relationship was rocky, with frequent arguments reported between Ashley and Doug Benefield.

Ashley Benefield claims her husband was abusive and volatile. As her pregnancy progressed, she moved in with her mother, denying Doug Benefield access to information about the baby, including her birth.

Ashley Benefield planned to move out. Doug Benefield arrived at Ashley's home with a U-Haul truck to help pack for a move to Maryland. He believed he would be moving with the family but intended to live in a separate home.

Ashley Benefield claims that Doug became angry while loading the truck, "body checked" her twice, hit her hip with the corner of a box, and caused her head to hit the wall. Fearing for her life, Ashley ran to her bedroom and retrieved a gun.

She turned around and saw Doug standing in the doorway. Claiming Doug lunged toward her, Ashley fired the gun, shooting him twice—once in the leg and once in the chest, causing damage to his lungs and severe bleeding. It was determined that Doug was not directly facing Ashley at the time he was killed.
