Two University of Mississippi students found dead in separate location, but both have kratom nearby.  Kratom is a tropical evergreen tree, native to Southeast Asia.  It's extract act as a psychoactive substanced. It's effects depending on the dose: at low doses it can act as a stimulant, and at higher doses it can act as a sedative. 

 As it it is not conclusion that kratom was a contributing factor in their deaths, but the investigation continues.  The students were identified as Aidan Hamilton, a freshman from Englewood, Colorado, and Robert Strang, a junior from Atlanta.

A Texas man faces capital murder charges after a five-year-old girl was killed in a roadway shooting in Harris County. A Northern Virginia real estate agent was shot to death inside her home, triggering a multi-state manhunt that ended with her husband's arrest in Pennsylvania. Officials in Oxford, Mississippi, are investigating after two Ole Miss students were found dead in separate incidents where packaged Kratom was discovered. Sydney Silvagni reports.

Federal authorities, including the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI, have stepped in to review the controversial 2011 death of Ellen Greenberg. Federal agencies requested and subpoenaed documents and investigative records from the Philadelphia Police Department and other local entities.    Philadelphia's chief medical examiner reaffirmed the manner of death as suicide following an independent autopsy review mandated by a civil settlement, but now federal law enforcement have opened a broader inquiry into how local authorities and the medical examiner handled the investigation. 

In the moments before a civil case was to get underway, the family of Ellen Greenberg and Philadelphia officials come to an agreement to reopen the death investigation of the young teacher. The settlement means that after 14 years, the  Philadelphia Medical Examiner's office will reopen and reinvestigate Greenberg's manner of death.  Ellen Greenberg was found stabbed 20 times in the head, back, neck and chest. Then her death was ruled a suicide.

The attorney for the Greenberg's, Joseph Padraza, Jr says the settlement includes an agreement that the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an “expeditious” review of the manner of Greenberg’s 2011 death. The settlement is reached days after Doctor Marlon Osbourne, who conducted the autopsy, as the former assistant medical examiner with the ME's office, signed a sworn verification statement in which he says he now believes Ellen's manner of death should be designated as something other than suicide. Doctor Osbourne initially ruled Ellen Greenberg's death a homicide then changed the ruling to suicide.

In a public statement, Doctor Marlon Osbourne said after reviewing additional information in the Ellen Greenberg case file obtained from the Philadelphia Police Department as well as a consult with Doctor Lucy Rorke-Adams, a pediatric neuropathologist, he decided to make the change. In his verification, Osbourne writes that he is now unsure of the series of events that happened that day. He also says he doesn't know "whether the door was forced open as reported; whether Ellen's body was moved by someone else inside the apartment with her at or near the time of her death, and the findings of Lindsey Emery, M.D., from her neuropathological evaluation of Ellen's cervical segment sample."

911 received a call from Patrick "Ted" Barnett telling the dispatcher that his wife, Lindsey, "cut herself and her throat". First responders found Lindsey in the shower, dead, with a large laceration across the front of her neck and a serrated knife nearby. "Ted" claims his wife, Lindsey, had postpartum depression and killed herself. Joseph Scott Morgan and Dave Mack discuss the facts of the case including an unusual request for a welfare check. A woman asks police to do a welfare check on her boyfriend. She is worried because they talk all the time and today he hasn't answered calls or replied to texts. Police ask her the name of the man they need to check up on and the caller says "Ted Barnett".

Police in Jackson, Mississippi, have arrested a second murder suspect and issued a warrant for a third in connection with the death of 29-year-old mother Tasia Fortune. In Washington state, a mother faces multiple manslaughter charges after her nonverbal, epileptic 8-year-old daughter was found dead in an overflowing bathtub. Meanwhile, DNA testing has confirmed human remains found in Caldwell County belong to missing Texas State University student Jason Landry, ending a nearly six-year search. Sydney Silvagni reports.

Clancy attorney Kevin Reddington is asking the trial judge to question holdout juror Michael Desronvi and review his phone records. Desronvil was the only juror who publicly stated that he “didn’t have any doubts” about Clancy’s criminal responsibility for her three children's deaths. With no unanimous verdict, a mistrial was declared following seven days of deliberation.  He is currently in a secure location due to public backlash.  
Jurors and media reports confirm that Desronvil’s refusal to acquit Clancy by reason of insanity was based on his personal judgment of the evidence, not any illegal action.

Hayden Panettiere's death has been ruled an accidental overdose involving fentanyl and several other drugs.   The Greenville County Coroner's office says Hayden Panettiere died from the toxic effect of multiple drugs, fentanyl being number one in her system. Also found, Xanax and Seroquel.   According to this report from the coroner's office, Hayden Panettiere was found face down in a sitting position on the sofa bed, and the description is that she was sitting "crisscross applesauce." 

According to Brian Hickerson, this is something she did often, and would lean forward and fall asleep. When they found her, she had already turned deep purple, Hickerson then administered Narcan twice, when that failed to wake her up he instructed his brother, Zach, to call 911, while Brian Hickerson did chest compressions. The report states that Brian Hickerson saw Hayden for the last time as she was applying makeup in the bathroom around 10:30 in the morning, they had a bowl of cereal, he went back to sleep and was woken up by his brother Zach just before 2pm that afternoon. That's when they found Hayden already purple laying on that sofa bed. Investigators reportedly found on the scene blue pressed pills that were on a table right next to Hayden.

The pills tested positive for fentanyl. A straw was found next to the pills and a white powder substance was found inside a sunglasses case in her suitcase. This is significant because investigators previously had been looking into whether Hayden Panettiere obtained counterfeit oxycodone pills - that were filled with fentanyl which is what led to her death. One of the newest developments is Brian Hickerson told investigators that Hayden Panettiere had a long history of drug abuse with drugs, alcohol, and nitrous oxide. He even added she had recently been in rehab in Malibu and was just out from that.

In Texas, prosecutors have dropped the death penalty against Lee Gilley, who is accused of killing his pregnant wife, in an effort to clear the path for his extradition from Italy. Meanwhile, the attorney for a Missouri woman charged in a fatal drunk driving crash that killed a Washington University PhD candidate insists his client was not actually the person behind the wheel. Patrick Clancy speaks out about the loss of his children, describing how his 8-mon-old died in his arms. Clancy says he was thankful for the final four days in the hospital with Callan, but says the loss is something “from which there will never be closure.”  

Patrick Clancy was the first witness called to testify in his ex-wife's trial. He recounted how he discovered his three children dead and Lindsay injured. He told how she asked him to pick up food and medication, only to return home to horror.

In Ohio, American Idol alum Caleb Flynn broke down in court as prosecutors presented graphic crime scene photos and autopsy details in the murder trial of his slain wife. Meanwhile, controversial "looksmaxxing" influencer Clavicular faces felony rape and drugging charges in Massachusetts following a civil lawsuit filed by a fellow content creator. It's the question on everyone's mind. How do you overdose in rehab?  Model Presley Gerber, son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber,  died Sunday at Resolutions Living, a Santa Monica treatment center. He was 27 years old.   Gerber died of a suspected overdose.

The lone holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial has spoken out following a deadlocked mistrial, asserting that physical evidence proves the Massachusetts mother knew exactly what she was doing when she strangled her three children. An 18-year-old freshman football player at UMass Dartmouth was fatally stabbed outside a Rhode Island restaurant following an altercation that originated at a local nightclub. An 82-year-old grandmother was killed and two family members critically injured on an Arizona freeway after an alleged impaired driver struck their vehicles as they finished changing a flat tire. Sydney Silvagni reports.

The Grand Jury report is Nolan Wells death has been released.  The jury released a “no true bill” decision meaning there is insufficient evidence to prove probable cause for criminal charges in Nolan's death.   Forty three witnesses were heard, 132 subpoenas issued, and extensive physical and digital evidence was reviewed.   

The report states that the position, condition, and location of Wells’ body are “consistent with drowning.” Both the state medical examiner and an independent pathologist, however found the cause and manner of death undetermined. The official coming as a process of elimination.  The Wells’ family and attorney Ben Crump argue the investigation was incomplete and  report fails his head injuries, leading for calls for further investigation, including potential federal involvement.

In a poignant interview with 60 Minutes, Patrick Clancy reveals the heartbreaking final moments and last words he spoke to his eight-month-old son Callan after ex-wife Lindsay Clancy strangled their three young children. In Kissimmee, Florida, 68-year-old Marilyn Elise Therrell faces attempted murder and aggravated abuse charges after allegedly attempting to poison her two adult autistic sons before trying to end her own life. In Long Island, New York, Sage Arias-Brown has been indicted for second-degree murder after allegedly stabbing his father Edward Brown over 40 times while the victim frantically called 911 for help. Eugene Horsch's arrest after a traffic stop leads to an extensive investigation into missing women.  When he was taken into custody, police found him with fake Drug Enforcement Administration credentials, a switchblade, and two firearms with altered serial numbers.  His passenger was carrying a fake ID with the name of a missing woman, Blair Tonzelli. That is what led the searches of his home.

 Police and federal agents have recovered:

Over 600,000 images and 70,000 videos thought  that appear to show the bodies of two missing women — Maribel Fresses (last seen 2018) and Gabrielle Amarando (missing since 2012) 

Five urns believed to contain cremated remains, a home lab in the basement, and containers of unknown oily substances  

120 pieces of ballistic evidence, marijuana growing materials, and other suspicious items  

 Horsch has been charged with:

Firearms offenses

False federal credentials

Possession and possession with intent to deliver drugs

He is not charged with the women's disappearances.

A Florida plastic surgeon representing himself in court faces the death penalty for allegedly murdering an opposing attorney and disposing of his body in an Everglades dumpster. Jake Reiner speaks out, describing the deaths of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, as a "living nightmare.  His comments were published in an essay Substack.

He writes that he still wakes up trying to convince himself his parents murder by his brother is not a dream. Nick Reiner killed his parents by slitting their throats as they slept. He's now facing murder charges.   Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

A former Miami-Dade elementary school teacher faces multiple felony charges after allegedly exposing himself and showing explicit videos to several young female students.  In Washington, police search for missing mother Antoinette Forbes after her ex-boyfriend is arrested in Pennsylvania on an outstanding warrant. A new coroner's report reveals the alarming handwritten note left behind by a Utah mother in a fatal Las Vegas hotel room murder-suicide. Sydney Silvagni reports.

A third mother has claimed post partum psychosis for the death of her children. Corie Walsh,41,  is facing murder charges for the death of her two-year-old son Barrett "Bear" Walsh. He was unresponsive in a home bathroom in Frankfort, Illinois. Corie Walsh was hospitalized with self-inflicted injuries.   

Police report that Walsh stated she killed her son because she believed he was the "anti-Christ."  Her legal team says Walsh was suffering from severe mental illness at the time. The diagnosis... grief psychotic disorder.

Janette R. MacAusland, 49,  is another mother accused of murdering her two young children, Kai, 7, and Ella, 6.   MacAusland worked as an acupuncturist and massage therapist. According to  affidavits,  MacAusland drove three hours to her aunt’s home with a visible neck wound and dried blood on her body. She allegedly confessed toher aunt she had killed her children and wanted “the three of us to go to God together, but it didn’t work.”  Police found Kai and Ella dead in their mother’s bed. strangled.   She has pleaded not guilty to two counts of first‑degree murder

Fraser Bohm's murder trial set to begin in December. The 24-year-old is currently out of custody on a $4 million bond. He's charged with four counts of second-degree murder and four counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. 

He's accused of driving 104 mph on the Pacific Coast Highway crashing into and killing four Pepperdine University seniors: Niamh Rolston, Peyton Stewart, Asha Weir, and Deslyn Williams. Bohm maintains he was being chased.  The latest evidence against him, produced by the prosecutor is a reported 12-pound tank of nitrous oxide in the front seat of his car.

Social influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate arrested in Miami in July, after an extradition request by UK officials on charges of rape, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation.   They were first arrested in Romania in December 2022, accused of human trafficking, forming an organized crime group, and sexual exploitation of women. 

British prosecutors brought new charges against the Tates in 2024–2025, alleging offenses between 2010 and 2017. Andrew Tate faces 42 charges, including rape, arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, assault causing actual bodily harm, and offenses related to indecent images of a child and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate faces 17 charges, including sexual assault, rape, and facilitating sex trafficking.  

On July 18, 2026, the U.S. Marshals Service arrested the brothers on a sealed warrant issued by the UK.    Court filings describe incidents where victims were allegedly strangled and assaulted without consent. The brothers have consistently denied all allegations, claiming political motivation and asserting their innocence.

Federal authorities execute a search warrant at the Los Angeles home of actress Hayden Panettiere following her death in South Carolina. In Southern California, an internet technician is accused of using a fake Wi-Fi test to steal and text a customer's private, sexually explicit video to his own phone. In Georgia, a husband faces trial for malice murder nineteen years after his wife was shot dead inside the family's sports park. Sydney Silvagni reports.

Tyler Robinson will stand trial for shooting Charlie Kirk to death on a college campus. Robinson is  accusing of firing the lone bullet which tore through Kirk's neck. Three other bullets were found in magazine of the alleged murder weapon, a rifle belonging to Robinson's grandfather.  Robinson faces seven total criminal charges. Aggravated murder is the primary charge. Robinson has pleaded not guilty, but prosecutors are actively seeking the death penalty.

Robinson's roommate testified about a direct confession.

Jackson, Mississippi police have arrested a man in connection with the homicide of 29-year-old mother Tasia Fortune as her family continues searching for answers. In Florida, an emergency response unfolded at a St. Petersburg gas station after a suspect allegedly ignited fuel with a lighter and set a female stranger ablaze. Meanwhile in Louisiana, authorities have charged a man with four counts of first-degree murder following a devastating mass stabbing spree in Houma that left four relatives dead and a child critically injured. Toxicology reports on Hayden Panettiere's death are still pending, but sources say the actress died after taking one Oxycodone pill laced with Fentanyl.  The investigation has turned bi-coastal as the Feds look closely at drug related text messages between Hayden and someone who may have been supplying her with drugs. 

California neighbors report regularly seeing three people at Hayden's home, just long enough to drop off packages, suspected to be drug dealers. We know that Hayden's Los Angeles home was searched by federal drug agents shortly after her death, reportedly looking for evidence linking the the reported fatal pill that killed her to a possible drug dealer.

A fifteen-year-old girl faces first-degree murder charges after a Chicago commuter was pushed off a train platform into the path of an oncoming train. A Maryland couple is held without bail after their two-month-old daughter died from severe head trauma, with the father claiming Satan slammed a door on the child. A Florida woman is behind bars after allegedly breaking into her neighbor's home and throwing a bucket of human feces during a confrontation over an alleged affair. Sydney Silvagni.

A third mom kills her children, Clancy style, claiming she wanted them all to go to God together. This as the Clancy juror holdout is attacked.  His name and background have been released, but not by the court.  The juror reportedly has previous domestic violence allegations, but court records show the case was later dropped.

While executing an unrelated search warrant, law enforcement discovered 16 children in an isolated Ohio home, ranging in age from 18-month-old twins to an 18-year-old. Parents Gary Siders Jr. and Elizabeth Siders face neglect allegations, while Gary Jr. has also been charged with misdemeanor counts of public indecency. All 16 children were taken to the hospital for evaluation after being removed from the home, with several requiring additional treatment.

An undocumented immigrant from Guatemala is behind bars in New Jersey after allegedly breaking into a home, kidnapping a six-year-old girl in the middle of the night, and sexually assaulting her. In Alabama, a Homeland Security Investigations special agent tasked with investigating child exploitation has been indicted on charges including rape, sodomy, and incest involving a female minor. A federal indictment against Pastor John Paul Miller includes felony cyberstalking charges for allegedly subjecting Mica to relentless harassment. Federal prosecutors detail how Miller tracked her vehicle, deflated her tires using specialized tools, interfered with her daily finances, lied to law enforcement, and posted a nude photograph of her online without her consent. Ghislaine Maxwell's latest bid to overturn her sex trafficking conviction has been rejected, leaving her 20-year prison sentence in place. The judge called her claims a "complete miscarriage of justice" based on speculation and falsehoods.  Maxwell argued that newly released Justice Department files proved her innocence, but the judge ruled that those documents actually incriminated her further. Legal experts state she has virtually run out of standard legal avenues to challenge her 2002 conviction, leaving her future dependent on the potential for a presidential clemency.

Maxwell was transferred from a facility in Tallahassee, Florida, to the minimum-security Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Bryan, Texas.

On June 19, 2026, in Philadelphia, PA, a park ranger notices a black BMW parked in a restricted area near Independence Mall. Hearing a woman inside the car say, "you're going to hurt me",  the Park Ranger decides to check things out. The driver is identified as Eugene Horsch. The female passenger produced identification bearing the name of Blair Tonzelli. Tonzelli had been reported missing in February 2023 BUT she had not been heard or seen since August 2022. The photo on the ID was the passenger's photo, NOT Tonzelli. Investigators determine the ID is fake. The woman tells investigators that Eugene Horsch gave her the ID. The woman tells investigators she needed the ID because she had outstanding warrants. This is how the "Philly House of Horrors" case began. Joseph Scott Morgan and Dave Mack discuss what has been discovered thus far and explain the 55-gallon drums, dissolving chemicals, and pipes tied into the local underground sewer system. The official cause of death for Hayden Panettiere is still pending as local and federal authorities continue to investigate.  The initial autopsy showed no signs of physical trauma and officials are waiting on toxicology reports. Pills and Narcan were found near her body, leading to supposition that Hayden died of a drug overdose. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has joined the investigation. Hayden's California home was search after her death. 

On/off boyfriend Brian Hickerson, who was present when Hayden was found, released a statement through his attorney asking the public to allow the investigation to proceed without premature conclusions.

Jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict in Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial after spending parts of more than seven days deliberating.  The presiding judge formally declared a mistrial. He relayed the details of a note from the jury which stated, “With a heavy heart, we report we are unable to come to a unanimous decision. We will not be able to.”   Soon after, at the request of Clancy’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, Sullivan gave the defense an hour to pursued an emergency stay from the Supreme Judicial Court. The  emergency request was denied.

After six days of deliberating, the Lindsay Clancy jury remains deadlocked.   After lunch on Thursday, the jury submitted a question,  but the judge did not read it aloud. He did reiterate the legal definition of reasonable doubt, sending jurors back to deliberate.

Ghislaine Maxwell's most recent bid to overturn her 2021 sex‑trafficking conviction and 20‑year sentence, has been denied. The only path to freedom no is a presidential pardon.     

Maxwell is serving her sentence at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Bryan, Texas. She was moved to the minimum‑security facility last year. Several "scandals" have followed Jeffrey Epstein's closest confidante, claims that she is not eligible to be at Camp Bryan, claims that she is getting special treatment, including claims she has unlimited access to toilet paper. That is uncommon behind bars.

Courtney Clenney pleads guilty to manslaughter and receives a six-year prison sentence for the 2022 fatal stabbing of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli.  She was originally charged with second-degree murder and faced up to life in prison. Clenney argued she acted in self-defense because of an abusive relationship.

The judge sentenced her to six years in state prison, followed by five years of reporting probation. Because she spent four years in jail awaiting trial, that time counts toward her sentence. She has about two years left to serve and could be released even sooner with good behavior.

A Florida jury has convicted Mario Fernandez Saldana of first-degree murder and solicitation in the 2022 ambush slaying of Microsoft executive Jared Bridegan. Karmelo Anthony’s motion for a new trial in the stabbing death of  Austin Metcalf,17,  has been denied.   Anthony, 19, was convicted of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison after a jury rejected his self-defense claim.  

In the motion for a new trial, Anthony's defense team claimed  the trial was unfair due to:

Restrictions on public access to proceedings, citing security concerns, a  “gentleman’s agreement” between prosecutors and defense to suppress potentially damaging character evidence about both Anthony and Metcalf, claims Anthony was coerced into waiving his right to testify because of the agreement, alleged jury instructions that self-defense did not apply if Anthony provoked the altercation.  

New allegations and evidence put before the court as prosecutors revealed that Anthony’s ex-girlfriend reported him to school for stalking and sent texts saying he was “lowkey on the verge” and wanted to “stab someone” and “lick the blood off the blade.”   Defense attorneys presented school and phone records showing Metcalf spray-painted racial slurs and phrases like “KKK” and “Heil Hitler.”  

 The Fifth Court of Appeals in Dallas will review the denial.  Anthony’s attorneys,  say they will continue the appeal and pursue all legal remedies.

Hayden Panettiere’s West Hollywood home raided by more than six federal agents this week.  Agents entering Panettiere's building were seen by a witness. We now know that entry was supported by a warrant to search the premises.

Panettiere, 36, was found in a Greenville  Airbnb  where she had traveled with on-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson.

As Hayden Panttierre's death investigation continue, the focus falls on her romance with boyfriend Brian Hickerson. Hickerson admitted in an interview that he had battered Hayden in the past. Neighbors have come forward saying they heard crying and screaming in the time for her death, some saything they had called 911 multiple times.

Eugene Horsch's arrest after a traffic stop leads to an extensive investigation into missing women.  When he was taken into custody, police found him with fake Drug Enforcement Administration credentials, a switchblade, and two firearms with altered serial numbers.  His passenger was carrying a fake ID with the name of a missing woman, Blair Tonzelli. that is what lead the searches of his home.

 Police and federal agents have recovered:

Over 600,000 images and 70,000 videos thought  that appear to show the bodies of two missing women — Maribel Fresses (last seen 2018) and Gabrielle Amarando (missing since 2012) 

Five urns believed to contain cremated remains, a home lab in the basement, and containers of unknown oily substances  

120 pieces of ballistic evidence, marijuana growing materials, and other suspicious items  

Authorities have not recovered the women’s bodies, but the medical examiner has stated that if the images and evidence are authentic, the women are deceased 

Horsch has been charged with:

Firearms offenses

False federal credentials

Possession and possession with intent to deliver drugs

He is not charged with the women's disappearances.

Former University of Kentucky cheerleader Laken Snelling enters a guilty plea after her newborn infant was discovered deceased in a trash bag inside a closet. In Pennsylvania, an incoming college soccer player is brutally stabbed to death by her boyfriend, whose mother allegedly helped clean the crime scene and conceal evidence. A Colorado husband faces first-degree murder charges after claiming his wife committed suicide, as investigators uncover defensive fingernail wounds and an undisclosed extramarital affair. Billy Schmidt, a 22-year-old Penn State student, ambushed as he headed home from a local bar after watching the NBA finals. Two individuals allegedly stole his phone, Surveillance footage shows Schmidt confronting the men, saying, “Give me back my phone.”  One of the men shot him in the chest, killing him.  

The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Durfor Street, just steps from Schmidt’s home. Witnesses and video footage indicate that Schmidt pursued the suspects after the theft. One suspect threw the phone, while another turned and fired the fatal shot. Schmidt was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center but was pronounced dead shortly after.   

Authorities recovered the phone and a single spent shell casing from the scene. Surveillance footage from neighbors has been collected to help identify the suspects. 

Now, 19-year-old Kadafi Fleming and his 16-year-old brother, Azubayer have been arrested.  Colorado weeks ago.

Brooke, a 35-year-old psychotherapist and mother, found stabbed to death inside her New Jersey  home.  Her death has been ruled a homicide, caused by multiple sharp force injuries 

Husband James 'Conor' Hanlon calls 911 around 4:30 PM after finding his wife bloddied and unconscious on the second floor of the home. He described a major laceration to her chest area to the operator saying "there's blood everywhere". No suspects have been publicly named.

Actress and singer Hayden Panettiere was found unresponsive at a home in Greenville, South Carolina, around 1:50 p.m. . Emergency personnel administered medical assistance, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The preliminary investigation by Greenville police and the county coroner’s office indicated no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances. A NARCAN pen was found nearby. The exact cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, though reports suggest an apparent overdose may have been involved. Lindsey Clancy's trial continue as the prosecution rest and the defense opens their case. Today Massachusetts State Police investigator Kyle Pavao,  who examined Clancy's Microsoft Surface Pro discussed internet searches related to suicide methods.   Testimony focuses on evidence related to Clancy’s actions and her mental health. Luigi Mangione pleaded guilty to federal stalking charges for the 2024 killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson and faces a potential life sentence  The status of his state murder trial is still pending. 

On August 14, 2026, Luigi Mangione, 28, admitted in Manhattan federal court that he stalked and shot Brian Thompson outside a Hilton hotel. He pleaded guilty to two federal counts of interstate stalking resulting in death, which carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole. Mangione explained that his actions were motivated by years of severe back pain and frustration with the U.S. health insurance system.  

Despite the federal guilty plea, Mangione still faces eight state charges in New York, including second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. His state trial is scheduled to begin on September 8, 2026. His defense has filed a motion to dismiss the state charges under New York’s double jeopardy law, arguing that his federal guilty plea should prevent prosecution for the same conduct. However, prosecutors maintain that the state charges are distinct and are prepared to proceed with the trial.

Police respond to a 911 call in the high society area of the Hamptons at the Montauk Yacht Club shortly after midnight.

Martha Nolan-O'Slattarra, a fashion designer from Ireland, is found unresponsive on a boat named "Ripple." The yacht is reportedly owned by insurance mogul Christopher Durnan, 60, who was present at the scene and allegedly ran down the dock screaming for help.

The wealthy yacht owner was once accused of fighting and biting a former New York firefighter during a tribute concert, commemorating 20 years after the 9/11 terror attacks.

CPR is attempted by a good Samaritan, but first responders pronounce Martha dead at the scene. Initial autopsy results showed no signs of violence. As rumors swirl of drug overdose, Martha's family strongly denies those claims and rumors of brain cancer by hiring attorney Arthur Aidala to ensure a thorough investigation is performed. 

The official cause of death is inconclusive. Still no charges in the case, but the yacht owner has been hit with a multimillion dollar wrongful death suit.

Police arrest a nineteen-year-old suspect hiding inside a campus dorm closet following a late-night mass shooting at Virginia State University that left five people wounded. In Kentucky, one person was killed and four others injured in an outdoor concert shooting. A Louisiana man faces murder charges after allegedly shooting his wife and driving her body across state lines in the passenger seat of his car. Sydney Silvagni reports.

Madi Brooks, 19, leaves Reggie’s Bar with four young men who offer to give her a ride home.

A few blocks from the bar, the driver pulls over and starts to video as the two men in the backseat ‘have sex’ with an extremely intoxicated Brooks. Afterward, Brooks cannot tell the men her address and, according to them, insists on getting out of the car. Just before 3 a.m., a Lyft driver strikes something in the road. It’s Madi Brooks. She dies of her injuries at a hospital.

The four men have been charged in this case, three of them with third-degree rape, and one is charged as a principal to third-degree rape, which means he was present for the alleged crime, but did nothing to stop it. 

Reportedly,  there are concerns that District Judge Gail Horne Ray will not remain neutral while presiding over the trial of Madison Brooks’ four alleged rapists. Last year, Judge Ray reduced an accused rapist’s bail without allowing prosecutors to argue against the decision.

Just last month, Ray moved to overturn a 1972 rape conviction when asked to consider allowing the convict parole. Her son, Nelson Taylor Jr., is also a convicted serial rapist.

Nolan Wells’ and his phone were separated  on Horn Island. It was later recovered by his family from one of his friends’ homes on the mainland. 

Attorneys representing the family, including Ben Crump, note that Nolan had demanded his phone back during an argument with his friends on the island, indicating he wanted to maintain control over it. 

The phone’s separation and whether any messages were deleted  have become central points in the ongoing investigation. The family and civil rights attorneys are questioning the timeline and circumstances surrounding Nolan’s disappearance, emphasizing that the phone’s handling may hold critical information about his final hours.

Roughly seven days Celeste Rivas was killed, according to prosecutors, D4vd posted a single word to social media, "decay."   It's sparked social commentary as many are linking it back to Celeste's death at the hands of David Anthony Burke.  No official court source has identified the tweet as evidence, and so far authorities have not connected it to the case. 

During Burke's  preliminary hearing, prosecutors revealed the last text messages between D4vd  and Celeste the day before prosecutors say he dismembered the teen.  Prosecutors allege Burke fatally stabbed her, after an argument over another woman. Rivas reportedly said she would “end your career and your life” and threatened to “leak all of the s–t” if she saw him with her. According to the state, Celeste was killed the next day.    

D4vd has pleaded not guilty to charges including first‑degree murder, continual sexual abuse of a child under 14, and mutilation of human remains.

Samantha Miller and her fiancé Aric Hutchinson spend the night celebrating their wedding.

When the newlyweds leave the reception, the golf cart in which they are riding is plowed over by a speeding car. Police say Jamie Komoroski was driving 65 mph in a 25 mph zone. Bride Samantha Miller is killed.

Komoroski admitted to police that she had been drinking that night, but refused to take a breathalyzer test. Three other people in the golf cart, including the groom are injured.

Jamie Lee Komoroski is charged with three counts of DUI with great bodily injury or death and reckless homicide. Ultimately, Komoroski  pleaded guilty to felony DUI, two counts of DUI causing great bodily injury or death and reckless homicide. She was sentenced to 25 years.
